While many of the administration'sgoalsset in thebeginningof ttie spring 1996 semesterare being met, goals are still being set for the Fall 1996semester. According to Al Mollica, vicepresident of institutionaladvancement, the departmentof institutional advancementis closeto fulfillingits fimdraisinggoals. Mollica said the goal for his departmentis to raise $(,00,{XX) by June 30, 1996,the end of the current fiscalyear. Accordingto Mollica,the department. had already raised $570,{XX)by the endof March. The college is spendingless on fundraisingcostswhileearningmore, accordingto Mollica. "Lastyearwe raised$(,00,{XX)and spent$200,<XXl," Mollicasaid. The currentavailablebudget for the constructionof the new sportscomplex standsat $4.1million,aa:.ording to Mollica. Lookingahead,he said theoverallgoalis to raise$6.8million. A three-story,co-ed apartment complexhousing120studentswillbe built on Cabrini's campus,located across from the tennis courts. Different-sizedapartmentswill hold four,fiveor six students. Ground-breaking for the apartment oomplex,originallyscheduJedfor the Spring 1996 semester, has been delayedbecauserollinghas not been awroved by thetownship. Directorof StudentDevelopment, Dr. RobertBonfigliosaidall contracls havebeensignedby theschoolwiththe Entech Corporation,which will perfonn the construction.The apartment complexwill cost an estimated$35 milliontobuild,according toBonfiglio.
Despitesetbacks,Bonfiglioisoptimistic about the completionof construction. ''It is my hope that the building opens in January [1997], but that dependson weatherandwaitingfor a pennit,"Bonfigliosaid Mollicasaidconsideration is being givento the additionof a new science wing onto SacredHeart Hall within the nextthreeyears. Krapfs Van Servicewill expand to weekendservicefor the Fall 1996 semester,accordingto Bonfiglio.He said the transportation service's expansion to include Villanova Universityin its regularroute is still under investigation. Bonfiglio set a goal to support the Student Government Association in the coming semesters. According to Bonfiglio,SGA headed the successful· efforts of openingan aerobicexerciseroom in the SacredHeart Hall gymnasium.
Bonfiglio describes SGA as a growingbody of influenceon campus. "SGA is still in the process of finding itself," Bonfiglio said. "There are a numberof areas where it [SGA] could have a significant impact." Enrollmentis expected to grow for the Fall 1996 semester,according to Boeke. "We expect that enrollment will increase somewhat," Boeke said. "Admissions are up fromthe previoustwo years." Seven new faculty membersare being hiredfor the fall 1996 semester. Accordingto Boeke, they will serve in the areas of biology,chemistry,socialwork, sociology,education, sports science and computer informationscience. Academic affairs has set many goals for the future, including the implementationof an SIRSI library automation system in Holy Spirit Library. In addition,the department wants to establish a masters program in integratedmarketingcommunications,accordingto Boeke.
