For thepast20 years,a selectgroup of studentshave walkedthe few hundred yards from their donns to the Rudy RooymanCenter,home of the CAReCenter,to makea difference.It is herethatstudentsareableto provide educationalsupportforotherstudents. On Monday,April 22, the CARe Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The daywill be highlighted by several speeches to be made by John Gardner, a nationally recognized expert in the field of the freshman-yearexperienceand the senioryear experience. A communitycelebrationwillfollow Gardner's speeches. The CAReCenterwasestablished in 1976by Dr.Arthur Young,director of the CAile Centerand associate professorof English and communications, as a means to offer support to students having academic difficulty. The CARe Center providesthree services to students, according to assistantdirector Barbara Rubin. "It providestutoringfor students by both peer and professional tutors," Rubin said. "It also teaches academic skills and provides sup-

John Gardner is coming to Cabrini and he's bringing a rather lengthy resume along with him. Gardner, an author, educator, public speaker, consultant, change agent and university administrator, just to name a few, will be speaking at Cabrini College on Monday, April 22, as part of the CARe Center's 20th anniversary celebration. Gardner, a nationally recognized expert in the field of the freshman-year experience and the senior-year experience, will make three separate speeches dealing with various aspects of the college experience. The first speech, concerning the senior- year experience, will begin at 11 a.m. This speech will be followed by a speech

geared toward first-year students, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m. Gardner's final speech is entitled "Community Session: The College Student of the Late 1990s" and will begin at 3:30 p.m. and end at 5 p.m. Gardner is the director of the Freshman-Year Experience at the University of South Carolina. This program includes University 101, the nationally recognized and widely imitated freshman seminar program. Gardner has also served as a workshop leader in over 250 faculty development workshops and ~as spoken at more than 250 campuses in five different countries. Students who wish to attend any of Gardner's speeches should call the enrollment management office at 902-8302 to reserve a place.
