The.re was no sun, sand or waves, but the Student Government Association still managed to have a successful "Welcome Back Bash.,, A beach party kicked-off Welcome Weekend on Friday, Sept. 8, which was held in the Widener Center Gathering Area. Seniors Christina Feehan, Terri Carragher and Kim Forde, all ·members of the party committee, organized the event to welcome both new students as well as the upperclassmen back to the world of reality. Food, games and prizes were just some of the things which were included in the price of admission. "It was the best legal party that I have ever been to,,, senior Monica Scaramuzza said. "Christina, Terri and Kim did a really great job.,, The cost of the event was $3 for Cabrini students under 21 and $4 for students over 21. . Senior Brant Sheldon, junior Justin Mirigliani, sophomore John Mack and first-year students Joseph Uff and John Coleman all participated in the buffalo-wing eating contest. The object of the game was to see who could eat l O wings the fastest. The winner of the contest was Sheldon, who won a free pass to the next party. "I was glad to see that a lot of first-year students came to the party,,, senior Jen Paliaro said. First-year student Kellie 0 'Neill said it gave her a chance to meet other people. "This party was a lot different than the kind we used to have in high school, where people stayed with their own little clique,,, first-year student Colleen Roche said. There were approximately 200 students who attended the beach party. "I feel that the party was very successful due to the fact that we had a great turnout,,, Feehan said. "I think that everyone had

a good time whether they were drinking or not. We got through the night with relatively few problems.,, According to Feehan, equal amounts of students from each class attended the party. SGA was very grateful to those students who participated in the event. "This was one of the biggest and best legal parties we have had here at Cabrini in a long time,,,j uni or John Linsday, programming chair of campus activities and programming board, said. • When the music stopped and the party was over, everyone went home, but the next day was still another day of Welcome Weekend. The fun continued into Saturday with a Welcome Back Bash. This event was supposed to take place by the Peace Pole, but dQe to the weather, the event was moved to the cafeteria. A band, Lost Boys, perfunned from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., playing a variety of music from artists such as Hootie & The Blowfish to Pearl Jam, as well as an original song. "The Lost Boys had a really good sound,,, sophomore Paul Kleschick said. "It was cool to finally hear a good band on campus.,, There was also a place where students could get their pictures taken with friends. Students also received printout sheets of different things that had taken place on the day they were born. The weekend wrapped-up with a performance by Dan Horn, a ventriloquist, which took place on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 9 p.m. in the Widener Center Lecture Hall. "The Welcome Weekend was a huge success,,, junior Andrea Kelliher, SGA president, said. "This was the first weekend that t~e campus was full. "I believe that the programming board did an outstanding job which was evident by the number of people at each event,,, Kelliher said.

A car carrying Cabrini students, along with off-campus guests, skidded down the main road, hit the curb on the left side of the road, and finally halted to a stop at the base of a tree at the Eagle Road entrance of Cabrini. On the evening of Thursday, Sept. 7, Officer Marsha Hayes of public safety, was infonned of the accident by first-year student Amanda Seeds in the lobby of Woodcrest Hall. According to the report, three males and two females were in the car at the time of the accident. According to Seeds, the accident occurred after one of the males left house five after a fight occurred. Seeds told Officer Hayes the car went over the speed bump at 45 mph and lost control. cation that the speed bump was hit at 45 mph Otherwise, there would have been damage indicated at the speed bump and to the axle of the car. No paint marks were found on the car and no scuff marks were found on the speed bump. According to the accident report, the accident occurred due to inappropriate manual operation of the vehicle. The vehicle was operated at a speed in violation of the 15 mph speed limit. The late-model red ford was traveling southbound on the main road when the operator lost control and hit the curb on the left side of the road, hopping to the left two feet then continued to skid down the road for an undetennined distance until the final collision at 21 mph. The car initially had threepointsof-impact. The first was at 40 mph. The car's second point-of-impact was at 30 mph, and the final impact

at 21 mph. The speed was determined by the length and direction of the skid marks and the damage to the panel and frame of the car, as reported by public safety and Radnor Township Police Department. As a result of the accident, three of the passengers were transported to an area hospital. At that time, two of the passengers refused treatment. The Radnor Township Police reported to the accident. Reporting officers were Keith Trorack, Michael Raymond and David Manly. Radnor Fire Company's ambulance squad and Bryn Mawr Paramedics also reported to the scene of the accident. Rich Kralle,director of public safety, was informed of the accident by Radnor Police. Kralle then reported the accident to the resident director on duty.
