Capitalcampaignaccrues$1.8 million by Karen M. Bell

staff writer

Sinc;e 1988, Cabrini College has been working on a campaign to enable the College to pay for extraordinary projects on campus. Referred to as the Capital Campaign or Comprehensive Campaign, direct results of these garnered funds include the Grace Hall complex, the new soccer field and the tennis courts. This project began almost three years ago and raises funds that are above and beyond the College's annual givings. Monies are acquired from outside sources rather than drawing from student tuitions and the annual givings. Costello said the Board of Trustees and the 1988 campaign staff decided that the goal of this campaign was to raise $7 million. This was a five-

year working goal. "There are necessary steps to take in a campaign. The Capital Campaign has done very well and it has brought the College $1.8 million. This is money that would not have been raised if the college did not have the campaign," Costello said. When looking at the amount of money that they hoped the campaign would bring to the College at this time, Costello said, "The influx of dollars has been slower, but as a whole we are pleased." Gifts to the campaign are not acquired in one lump sum, but rather through pledges or in installments over a certain pledge period. "We have a high pledge rate from the faculty and staff. This makes it easier for us when we search for new pledges, because of the internal support. The administrators are proud and believe in the campaign," Costello said. Mary Ellen Herzog, director of

development, said, ''The campaign raises money for things like the new athletic field, tennis courts, the parking lot and especially the new ~~~~~~~~~~~~,

Sister Eileen Currie, M.S.C., president

by Steve Murray staff writer

After two months of searching the college is getting close to hiring a person for the position of vice president oflnstitutional Advancement, President Sister Eileen Currie, M.S.C., said. The position of vice president was formerly held by Anthony Brocchi, who resigned early this past summer. Currie, with the help of Martha Dale, directorof alumni affairs. and Mary Ellen Herzog, director of development. has narrowed the selection down to two candidates, Currie said. "We are in our finalist stage,"

According to HerzOf, the college is looking for a vice president with the qualities to take the fundraising campaign to new heights. "We want a vice president who is aggressive," Herzog said. "To take us to whole new level we need someone who is skilled and experienced." "We want someone with a lot of experience in the various facets of Institutional Advancement," Currie said. Currie said that the position should be filled by a stronger leader than in the past. "We need someone with more hands on experience than we have had," Currie said. The candidate should be familiar with fund raising since this is what Institutional Advancement is concerned with, Currie said. Herzog said she would like the vice president to have some contacts in the area. Currie said she felt contacts were important, but they do not have to be from this immediate area. According to Dale. while the search for the new vice president

Tampering with children's playtime

The Children's School, located behind physical plant, was the site of vandalism last week on Tuesday, Oct. 16, as unknown persons entered the schoolyard and destroyed the fence in order to remove a toy car used by the children. The car was brought to the new soccer field where it remained until security found it. The incidet disrupted the normal playtime of the children because the vandalism was a distraction and more supervision was required, according to aides at the school.
