Cellulite is not only found in obese or slightly fat women but it can also occur in those that are slender as well. Cellulite is made up of fatty deposits in the dermis, the layer directly under the skin. As fat cells expand in the dermis, they push up on the skin, causing it to dimple and take on the look of “cottage cheese”.

Cellulite is typically found in the area of the hips, thighs and buttocks. The suppleness of the skin is another factor that can play into the development of cellulite because weak skin cells can easily be deformed by the plump fat cells as they push against the skin.

Poor Diet And Physical Inactivity

There are many factors that we cannot control when it comes to the development of cellulite. Our heredity, our sex and our age are totally beyond our control, and yet they can play a major role in the development of cellulite. Before 1

you resign yourself to having to live with cellulite, it is important to note that you can rid yourself of cellulite if you have the determination and the desire to do so. Cellulite can be defeated if you put your mind to it!

After sex, heredity and age, which only point to the possibility of developing cellulite, diet and exercise can definitely eliminate it. Inadequate diet and a sedentary lifestyle are the leading contributors to cellulite development. If you want to beat cellulite, you have to keep your fat intake to a minimum and increase the blood flow to your cells through vigorous physical exercise.

Drinking lots of water is vital for maintaining the health of your integumentary system, or the skin as it is commonly called. Water helps in eliminating toxic substances from the body that weaken cell walls, which leads to the development of the “plump” fat cells of cellulite.

Women that do not understand what causes cellulite tend to go on starvation diets which can actually increase the probability of building cellulite, because if the body is not getting the appropriate nourishment, it begins to store the fat it already has. This fat is usually stored in the dermis, which is the area that is directly responsible for the appearance of cellulite.

Heredity And Lifestyle

Heredity can determine whether you are prone to cellulite, or not. Just take a look at your mother or your father’s sister and you will get a hint of what’s to come

for you. If you see it in your family, then you should take the steps to prevent it in yourself.

In America today, our society is becoming fatter with each generation. This is showing itself in the number of girls as young as 12 to 14 years of age that are developing cellulite. We eat well and do not exercise! Fortunately this is something that we have complete control over.

Smoking And Medications

Oddly enough, cigarette smoking can aid in the development of cellulite. The toxins that are in the smoke that you inhale can affect the walls of the cells that contain fat while decreasing the suppleness of the skin which allows the dimples of cellulite to appear on your skin. Nicotine that is ingested, as opposed to that which is applied topically, restricts blood circulation in the skin and cause the blood to become thicker and more viscose.

There many medical prescriptions like diet pills, sleeping pills, and diuretics that can lead to water retention which increases the chances for cellulite to develop. Birth control drugs that elevate the estrogen levels in the body can also result in fluid retention that promotes cellulite.

Hormonal Imbalance

Women face an elevated risk for the development of cellulite when their estrogen levels rise. This becomes particularly evident when women build up 3

cellulite abruptly after the delivery of a baby. After pregnancy, the body cannot dispose of the increased estrogen that it was producing during the pregnancy. Over time, the estrogen production slows and the body regains control and the cellulite development diminishes.

Ageing

Age definitely plays a role in the development of cellulite. When you are young, you tend to be more active which helps you burn fat and remove fats and toxins through your sweat. As we age, we tend to be come less active which prevents us from burning off excess fats. A regular exercise program will correct this and keep you cellulite free and generally healthier.

As you age, you will change the various exercises that you do in order to minimize impact on your joints. Walking may replace running, the weight that you lift will be less, but it is important not to stop entirely. You need to stay active to maintain your health and avoid cellulite. Older people are more prone to surgeries and injuries which can affect the bodies circulation. Even light exercise can restore the blood flow that you need in order to limit the development of cellulite.

Take charge of your life, because there are far more things that you can control in your battle against cellulite then ones that you can’t control. Everything that you do in your quest to be cellulite free will improve your over all health and make you a healthier and happier person.
