I published the first Local List back in February 2005.
Twenty years later we’re still going strong. And what a journey!
Looking back, the world was a very different place.
I had a lot more hair, a bit more energy, a bit less wisdom and a lot less patience.
Tony won a landslide general election to start a third term, Pink Floyd reformed for Live 8 & Freddie Flintoff helped defeat the Aussies over a magic Ashes summer. At Bloomfield Road Owen replaced Colin Hendry with Simon Grayson as our team struggled in League One front of an average gate of 5,800
A big thank you to our army of advertisers. All those fanastic local businesses that go the extra mile to give great service and satisfaction.
A big thank you for all the lovely people who have supported us with their recommendations and kind comments.
A big thank you to the army of posties who bring Local List to your letterbox every month in all weathers.
And to the tiny handful that have complained - sod off.
And of course, a big thank you to you, dear reader, who have taken Local List into your hearts since we started. I hope you’ve enjoyed Local List as much as we have.
It has been a privilege to cover activities in the greatest place on earth.
I know I’m extremely lucky to be here on the Fylde Coast and very grateful to be amongst so many wonderful people.
Without your help and generous support we would not have been able to get this far.
David Thorley
Publisher, Local List
PS. I look forward to the next twenty years. I sincerely hope we’ll still be together in 2045!

Saint Valentine’s Day February 14.
St Valentinius was imprisoned for performing weddings for Roman soldiers and for providing help to persecuted Christians.
On the eve of his execution he wrote the first valentine, a letter to the jailer’s daughter, signed ‘From your Valentine’. He was martyred on 14th February AD 269 and buried beneath the Via Flaminia in Rome.
Geoffrey Chaucer first linked St Valentine’s feast with the idea of romatic love in his book ‘Parliament of Foules’ in the fourteenth century.
During the middle ages it was believed that birds paired in mid-February.
The Maggie Oliver Foundation exists to create a society where survivors and those at risk of childhood sexual abuse and exploitation are empowered to live fulfilled and successful lives, and where every survivor is treated with dignity, respect and as an equal and valued member of society.
far we have helped 4,030 Survivors since 2019
We want to help adult survivors and their loved ones to transform the pain of their abuse into power, by being supported to identify their strengths, adopt constructive coping strategies, increase self-confidence, and create and embrace positive life chances.
Without support, survivors and their loved ones are often isolated and alone, with no knowledge of where to turn for the help and advice they need to begin rebuilding their shattered lives.
The Maggie Oliver Foundation provides a safe place for survivors to be heard, and to use their experiences to campaign for a criminal justice system that is fit for purpose in achieving the justice they deserve.
