WELCOME HOME With Amy Adams: Senior Designer, J Hill Interiors Q: How important is it for people to make a budget when they’re redesigning their home? Amy Adams: Budget is important, primarily for expectations. It’s really helpful when a client expresses a budget, to me as a designer, so I can know how much they’re willing to invest in their home and it gives me a good guide on what type of furniture manufacturers to look at. Q: Where does one start when redecorating? AA: A designer is going to focus a lot on aesthetics and how 130 | LOCALE MAGAZINE
appealing the design is but it also has to be very functional. Knowing how you use your space and how functional you want it is a really great starting point when planning a design. Q: What are some trends that you’re seeing right now? AA: Trends vary on your location, so given our firm is in Coronado, we do a lot of transitional seaside to contemporary seaside types of colors and styles. The trends right now do tend to be more minimalist. Something I like to focus on, to create that timeless design, is having something that’s minimal.
Maybe having a monochromatic color scheme, but with a lot of different textures and bring in the textures of a wool rug, and linen or sateen pillows. Q: What is your favorite part of redecorating? AA: My favorite part is taking a space that a client is so familiar with and giving them something totally different.
