rab your best guy or girl, and cruise down San Clemente’s Avenida Del Mar for some food that’s being fired up just for you two. BeachFire is no secret here in the beach town of San Clemente, you clearly gotta get here early for a good seat! For a perfect way to end your day at the beach, this spot is where it’s at for some sipping on yummy post-beach cocktails. You’ll have your hands full trying to decide on a wellshaken martini, a chilly mixed drink, or a cold beer or glass of chardonnay, on any given day or night. If you arrive in time for happy hour, choose from specials on a short list of bevs and nosh on calamari, ribs, ahi, salads and burgers from that same lil’ happy hour menu. So good! It all got started for local-favored BeachFire in the summer of 2002. They opened their doors to the city of San Clemente, and for the past 10 years, have not stopped. Most recently, the founding owner, Dave Donaldson, retired from the restaurant life and turned his treasure over to local restaurateurs Chris Turner and Nick Plevel. Now moving forward, Chris and Nick are bringing something fresh and new to this decade-old restaurant by adding that local goodness and quality you can really taste to the menu. Really! BeachFire’s award-winning menu is stacked with recipes that have a Caribbean flare to them, and all of

the locally-sourced produce that every foodie loves. In addition to the tastebud-pleasing eats, BeachFire is a great place to share a meal, enjoy a drink and experience this quaint little OC community at its best. Wanna know something else fun and different? Well let me break the news: the guys at BeachFire have a true passion for local artists and musicians. So, they cover the walls, ceilings, and even floors with a collection of over 400 pieces of on-sale art and tunes from local musicians. Art and food filling this holiday air: I think you can be a happy OC resident now, right? No wonder BeachFire has been honored with The People’s Choice Award for many, many years. It’s just how they do. And so do you. As the winter months are upon us, it’s fun to bundle up, but it’s fun to dress down. Luckily you can do both when you live in OC. Dressed from head to toe in none other than Hobie for your San Clemente beach day, you can rest assured that you are making a confident surf and style impression on those who pass you by. Hobie is an oldie but a goodie in this town, and really in a league of its own. Hold your breath, and believe it or not, Hobie started with one young man with one funky name: Hobart “Hobie” Alter. In the

year 1950, when sock hops were in and risk-taking was out, this young Laguna Beach resident brought together his two loves: woodshop and water. After building some of the best boards around for his surfside hobby, Hobie decided to go big in 1958, and open up Southern California’s first surf shop in Dana Point. The surfboard making continued, and the business expanded, and pretty soon Hobie Surf Team was formed. The line-up on the team was a surfing hall of fame list: Joey Cabell, Phil Edwards, Corky Carroll, Gary Propper, Peter Pan, Mickey Munoz, Joyce Hoffman and Yancy Spencer, among others. Today, Hobie spans across OC, selling in its own stores and a few other boutiques around town. Whether it’s menswear, women’s wear, sunglasses, or surfboards, you can count on quality that’s stayed true for decades and decades. Hobie will have the dudes looking their best on beach day, and hooked up with all of the surf and sand goods on the list. Board shorts, casual shorts, hoodies, flips, accessories, you name it. And girls: I know full well that you will want holiday style written all over you while at the beach. So let Hobie dress you up in cute threads, a good hoodie for the chilly weather, and a touch of that sandy girl fashion. What a perfect day and a perfect way to have a winter beach day, just you two!
