Welcome Back! FROM THE LOBERO STAFF

Pandemics are the worst, and really make you appreciate what you can’t have. Live performances on our historic stage were unfortunately (and understandably) on that list of restrictions. So, while you may have missed the comforts of Santa Barbara’s renowned theater, and the diverse, widely acclaimed performances presented, we have unquestionably missed YOU!

our exciting new Lobero App, which we successfully rolled out at the end of July. The app provides an overview of our calendar of events, convenient digital ticketing, insider access to presale tickets, special promos, discounts, and much more. We also garnered the support of strong new philanthropic corporate sponsors and welcomed several new staff members to our administrative family.

We kept busy, and hope you might have logged in for one of our “Live from the Lobero” streaming performances. We have a lot of pride in the production and performances virtually presented to the living rooms and laptops of our patrons near and far - all 50 states and 21 foreign countries logged in for a Lobero performance, giving us a global audience for the first time in the theater’s storied 148 years. Social media postings on this history of those years of performance were highlighted in “Earl Minnis Presents Intermission.” Special thanks to both Earl and board member Brett Hodges for their time and support around that ongoing series.

More than anything, we feel beyond fortunate to have the generous Lobero community that truly helped our organization get through this unprecedented pandemic patch. If not for your incredible support, this theater would not be in the position it is currently - scheduled with fantastic performances and ready to partner with our local arts community. YOU made a difference here at the Lobero, and we hope you feel our appreciation each time you rejoin us.

Despite the pandemic, the theater’s dedicated team worked diligently on

Thank you for your loyalty!

Cover Artist BRANDON TERIS by Anne Wilde

Raised in the beautiful mountain-town of Lake Arrowhead, artist Brandon Teris was deeply inspired by his surroundings and began painting watercolors of the stunning scenery around him at an early age. He found it therapeutic to focus his attention on nature and magically transform a blank canvas into a transformative piece of art. Brandon later became enchanted by calligraphy in high school, then explored the concept of text and image in his own artwork in college. Fueled by his passion, he further developed his technical skills in painting, drawing, typography, and printmaking. He soon discovered he was not only good at painting, but also at teaching others how to express themselves through art. This became a new passion and he went on to obtain his Master’s degree in education from UCSB. For over six years, Brandon has been teaching advanced drawing and painting at The Visual Arts and

Design Academy (VADA) at Santa Barbara High School, as well as his favorite course, calligraphy, in the school’s art department. The Lobero Theatre collaborated with VADA this past year in presenting an innovative, socially-distanced, larger-than-life art slide show on the back of the Lobero Theatre, and presented it to the Santa Barbara Community. Brandon, who was one of the favorite teachers of two Lobero staff members’ kids at VADA, was later commissioned to paint three BACKSTAGE at the Lobero playbill covers for the 2021-2022 season. The first is an oil painting of the interior of the theater, the second will be an aerial view of the theater in watercolor, the third will focus on patrons entering the front of the theater during one of our upcoming productions. Fascinated by the effects of light and color, Brandon is driven by capturing the mood of a scene in his compositions. He often incorporates prose or poetry in his paintings by inscribing the background using calligraphic marks in hopes of enhancing the emotional connection between the images and their textsaturated spaces. He specializes in plein air landscapes, using canvas, brushes, oil paints and watercolors to bring his artwork to life. His paintings can be seen on Facebook @terisartwork and Instagram @teris_art and he is open to doing commissions. A bit of a Renaissance man, Brandon enjoys hiking with his dog, Leo, spending time in nature, teaching chocolate truffle workshops, and competing as the second ranked billiard pool player in the Santa Barbara Pool League!

*in memoriam and with gratitude

For over 148 years, through the leanest times and grandest evenings, the Ghostlight has cast a warm glow over our intimate stage. It’s a beacon for the muses of drama, dance and music – a spark of brilliance to keep creative spirits company from curtain-down to curtain-up. The strong and steady support of the Lobero Ghostlight Society illuminates our behind-the-scenes efforts and – like the steadfast bulb at center stage – keeps our vibrant theatre from ever going dark.
