NOW TO CLEAN UP
Liverpool City Council staff faced a massive clean-up after more than 300mm fell over one weekend in early February. Fallen trees and flooding led to power cuts, road closures and damaged vehicles across the Local Government Area. Moorebank and Chipping Norton were badly affected, with the SES ordering residents to evacuate. The SES received more than 500 calls for assistance. “We were lucky to avoid serious injury in the wild weather but it really has left a huge cleanup job,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said. “Council crews worked through the weekend and simply didn’t stop. They are in it for the long haul – it will take months to clean up. “It has been a massive test of our staff and I’ve been very proud to once again see their strong commitment to the community in action. And of course we are also very grateful for the great work of the SES, who put themselves in harm’s way to rescue residents and keep us safe.”
$8M SPORTS COMPLEX KICKS OFF Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller has launched construction of a new $8 million sports complex in Middleton Grange. Cirillo Reserve will feature two soccer fields, floodlighting, terraced seating, a cricket pitch, outdoor gym, picnic facilities and children’s playground. “Cirillo Reserve is a huge win for both Middleton Grange and the wider Liverpool area,” Mayor Waller said. Cirillo Reserve will also include an off-leash dog park, pathways and landscaping. Construction is expected to be completed by early 2021.
