and further emphasized that, “It is the support of our loyal and dedicated members that truly forms the backbone of the Foundation’s success.” To date, GCRE has donated more than $1 million to charitable organizations and foundations that are meaningful to the residents of Garden City. The top comeback of 2025 was not completed by a professional sports team in the New York City area. Instead, it played out at the local level, as Garden City government saw the return of Property Owners’ Association (POA) and Community Agreement Party candidates. Victorious in the March 2025 election, those candidates altered the makeup of the Village Board and reclaimed positions from former officials. Mayor Mary Carter Flanagan
and Deputy Mayor Bruce Chester bid adieu to village public office when April arrived. Garden City Mayor Edward Finneran rose through the ranks of the Central Property Owners’ Association several years ago and, after an initial two-year term in 2025, ran and won the village’s mayoral seat. His current term will last through March 2027. He and the current makeup of the Board of Trustees have been working on upgrading and maintaining critical vilSee page 8
Traffic commission advances plans for Lot 7S, North Ave. BY RIKKI MASSAND The Garden City Traffic Commission met on Thursday evening, December 11th, to review issues related to village parking Lot 7S, located on the south side of 7th Street. Scarcity of parking and refuse disposal areas have long been cited as challenges in Lot 7S, and the December discussion highlighted possible improvements. As noted on the Commission’s most recent agenda, completed plans for proposed changes in Lot 7S — including a new striping layout — were expected by the end of October. In
late summer, Superintendent of Public Works John Borroni presented the plans to business and property owners in the area. In addition, the MTA-LIRR confirmed it would allow replacement of the fence separating the lot from the tracks. The village had planned a follow-up with businesses in November to review garbage-related concerns. Village Trustee Vinny Muldoon, chairman of the Traffic Commission, reported that the village has completed its new plan for Lot 7S, with a meeting expected in mid-January to finalize additional details “in regards to how See page 30
