Paul Warhit is a loyal son of Westchester. He was born in Yonkers, where his parents, Nathan and Diane, lived until the family moved to Eastchester. Paul had his bar mitzvah at Mid-Chester Jewish Center in Yonkers and graduated from Eastchester High School. Paul left Westchester to attend Boston University, but after graduation returned to New York to join his brother Barry and their father in managing the family business, Devonshire Tire and Auto Centers. Paul worked in the family business for 25 years until selling it in 2010. Paul met Ilissa Rubin in 1986 at a Jewish singles dance and married her on July 4, 1988. Paul and Ilissa lived in Riverdale before moving to New Rochelle in 1990. Paul’s active involvement in Jewish communal life began in 1996 when Ilissa and he joined Temple Israel of New Rochelle. Paul was recruited to reinvigorate the Brotherhood of Temple Israel. One thing led to another and in 2005, Paul was asked to become president of the synagogue. After serving as synagogue president for four years, Paul joined the Board of the American Jewish Historical Society (part of the Center for Jewish History in Manhattan) and was elected its president in 2011. At the same time, Paul was recruited to join the Boards of the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation and the Jewish Deaf Resource Center (JDRC). Paul served as president of the Library Foundation from 2012 to 2014 and as treasurer of JDRC from 2011 to 2014. Paul is a board member of the Giving Circle of Lower Westchester and also volunteers with Lighthouse for the Blind. It is no surprise that Paul’s talents and leadership skills came to the attention of the Westchester Jewish Council, where he served on the Board and as an officer before he was elected President in 2013. Paul and Ilissa are very proud of their children, Josh, Alyson and Natalie. Josh graduated from the University of Rochester, and made Aliyah in 2012. Josh was drafted into the IDF in 2012 and, together with his comrades in combat unit Nachal 931, served bravely in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge. Josh currently works for StandWithUs, an Israel advocacy group, and lives in Brooklyn. Alyson graduated from New Rochelle High School (where she was salutatorian), and Cornell University and is currently finishing her last year at Harvard Law School. When she graduates from law school, Alyson will become an associate at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP, a New York law firm. Natalie is a sophomore at Muhlenberg College, where she majors in Environmental Sustainability and Theater and is passionate about protecting animals and safeguarding the environment. In his free time, Paul is an avid reader and a sports enthusiast who visits major league baseball parks around the country with Josh, serves as a Westchester high school baseball umpire, and plays baseball, tennis and golf. WJC is delighted to honor Paul, who gives so much of his time and talent to WJC and other worthy causes in Westchester and beyond.

Jeff Kohn’s first visit to Westchester was in January 1981, during

his senior year at Cornell, when he drove through a snowstorm from his family’s home in Stony Brook to pick up his girlfriend Martha at her home in Scarsdale. In the pre- GPS and Google maps era, Jeff got lost finding Martha’s home. He drove down the wrong road, got stuck on a snowy driveway, and needed the help of strangers to dig out. He finally found his way to Martha’s home where, dripping in sweat and dirty from the shoveling, he met his future in-laws for the first time. Three and half years later, Jeff and Martha were married at Westchester Reform Temple. Jeff and Martha are parents of two compassionate and kind children, Brian (26), a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and Alexandra (22), a graduate of Bryn Mawr College. Jeff and Martha live in Chappaqua and are active members of the Jewish community at Temple Shaaray Tefila where Jeff served as President and as a Board member and Martha has been active in temple life including as a co-chairperson of the Caring Community committee. Jeff’s Jewish journey started in the early 1960s when his parents were founding members of a synagogue in Queens. When the family moved to Stony Brook, they became active members of Temple Isaiah, where his father held leadership positions and his mother worked in the religious school for many years. From his parents and family, Jeff was introduced to the importance of Jewish education, values, and celebrations, and learned about his family’s history in Eastern Europe and during World War II. Jeff is fortunate to have his family history preserved by his great- grandmother’s brother, a writer and artist, who wrote hundreds of pages about the family history in the region that eventually became the Czech Republic before he lost his life during the Holocaust. In 2006, Jeff and Martha, guided by these writings, travelled with members of their extended family to the Czech Republic to explore their family history. Jeff has spoken and written about his experiences. Jeff, a labor and employment lawyer, is the Managing Partner of O’Melveny & Myers LLP’s New York office. Jeff counts his 32-year affiliation with O’Melveny, an international law firm, as one of his proudest achievements. He represents companies in the airline, entertainment, sports, pharmaceutical, and media industries, among others. In 2011, Jeff received his firm’s Warren Christopher Values Award in recognition of individuals who epitomize the values that guide the firm. He currently chairs the firm’s Values Award Committee and works on the firm’s scholarship program, which provides college scholarships to deserving students from five New York City public high schools. Jeff is deeply involved in education, including serving on Advisory Boards at NYU Law School, Cornell University’s School of Industrial & Labor Relations, and the George Washington University Law School, from which he graduated in 1984 and received the school’s Distinguished Alumni Award. He represents and serves on the boards of non-profit organizations, including the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership (an organization started by the actor Hugh O’Brien which has provided leadership training to 400,000 high school students since its founding in the 1960s). Jeff loves photography, baseball, reading history, and cycling. He and other riders from Shaaray Tefila have cycled through Israel on three trips where they have raised money for organizations like Rambam Hospital and a school that supports a local immigrant population in Tel Aviv. Jeff continues his Jewish journey in many ways, including proudly serving as an officer of the Westchester Jewish Council. WJC 41st Anniversary Plain Boarder • 9

Gala Entertainment

• • • • Rockmitzvah

Rockmitzvah is the only entertainment entity in the New York metropolitan area, or perhaps the entire country, whose sole purpose is to integrate the bar/bat mitzvah child, their friends, and family, into the actual performance during their simcha. The child is a star for a day, and friends and family members participate musically in a unique event which simply complements the tradition and meaning of this momentous day in the life of a Jewish family. And because every family is different, and every child is unique, every Rockmitzvah is a custom fit. Rockmitzvah presents your Bar/Bat Mitzvah child as the Star of the Show! Your child will rock out with the band. Friends and relatives can sing or join the band using instruments that we provide. Every Rockmitzvah event is customized to provide your party with the perfect balance of musical entertainment. Rock, Pop, R&B and traditional Jewish music along with any other musical requests. For more information go to www.rockmitzvah.com or call 914-419-3610. WJC 41st Anniversary Plain Boarder • 10
