As reported in the Spring 2023 LION magazine, Plymouth Lions donated £3,000 to Derriford Hospital Charity from a trust fund set up by the family of Reuben and Marie Heathershaw.
Their daughter, Lynn, joined club members and nursing staff at the opening of the hyperemesis room, which has been refurbished thanks to the donation.
Located within the Ocean Suite in the maternity department of Plymouth Hospital, the room is designed to help expectant mothers recover from symptoms arising during pregnancy.

It has been redecorated and includes a nurse call system, two adjustable specialist chairs, television, broadband, coffee and ice-making machines, and seating for caring relatives.
Serenity Suite opened at Doncaster Royal Infirmary
A purpose-built Serenity Suite (as reported in the Autumn/Winter 2022 LION magazine), has opened at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The facility offers a comfortable, private space to meet the needs of families experiencing the loss of a baby, supported by specialist midwifery care.

Thorne Rural and Tickhill & District Lions contributed around £40,000 to the Serenity Appeal, which has raised almost £160,000 to improve maternity bereavement services.
The initiative was developed with the help of families who have experienced the loss of a baby. It provides a self-contained, soundproofed, environment away from the busy main labour ward.
