Expected Standard
• Safely move and carry basic gym equipment, such as mats and benches, and move on, off and over objects.
• Make their body tense, relaxed, stretched and curled.
• Perform simple gymnastic actions and shapes.
• Remember and perform a simple sequence, using rolling, travelling, climbing, balancing and jumping.
• Show spinning and rocking in isolation and in a short sequence.
• Perform in unison and canon.
• Catch, intercept, retrieve and stop a beanbag and a medium-sized ball with some consistency over a short distance.
• Track balls and other equipment sent to them, moving in line with the ball to collect it.
• Retrieve and return a ball to a base.
• Use a range of throwing/striking skills to send a ball into space.
• Run between bases to score points.
• Able to self-feed a ball to hit off hand and strike a ball off a cone.
Greater Depth Standard
• Perform, with control and consistency, basic actions at different speeds and on different levels.
• Create and perform a simple sequence and show contrasts in gymnastics shapes and actions.
• Work to improve fexibility and strength.
• Attempt to use rhythm while performing a sequence.
• Practise bowling/feeding a ball to other players.
• Attempt to play the role of wicket keeper or backstop.
• Attempt to catch balls coming towards players in games.
• Use skills as a team to prevent runs.
Expected Standard
• Perform basic body actions along with music.
• Use different parts of the body and combine arm and leg actions.
• Perform with an awareness of the body shape required.
• Move with control and show spatial awareness.
• Remember and repeat simple movement patterns.
• With help, compose a basic movement phrase.
• Roll, slide or throw a beanbag or ball with accuracy.
• Bounce a medium-sized ball to self.
• Attempt to bounce a medium-sized ball to others.
• Judge where to move to and when to get into a defensive position.
• Attempt to intercept and catch a thrown ball.
• Begin to engage in competitive activities, applying a range of techniques.
Greater Depth Standard
• Show some sense of dynamic, expressive and rhythmic qualities in their own dance.
• Use different parts of the body in isolation and combination.
• Perform with control and balance and demonstrate coordination.
• Explore and use basic choreography including levels, speed changes, in unison and canon.
• Can throw a ball using hands.
• Can receive a ball using hands.
• Link combinations of skills, for example, dribbling and passing with hands in isolation and combination.
• Perform the role of goalkeeper, using basic stopping and interception skills.
