This October, Linton is turning pink with pride as our community comes together to support the important work of the McGrath Foundation, which provides specialist care and support to individuals and families experiencing cancer.
The initiative, proudly instigated by Linton Takeaway, encourages all residents and local businesses to "Pink Up Linton" by displaying something pink outside their properties be it bunting, flowers, lights, or creative decorations Let’s show our community spirit and help raise awareness and funds for a cause that supports people right across Australia.
Linton Takeaway is also hosting a raffle with some fantastic prizes, generously donated by local businesses and community members.
All proceeds will go to the McGrath Foundation to help continue their vital work
To bring everyone together, a Pink Morning Tea will be held at Linton Takeaway on Friday, 31 October. Everyone is welcome to come along, wear pink, enjoy some treats, and connect with others while supporting this worthy cause.

Let’s show how Linton does community: strong, generous, and united. Whether you decorate your fence, join in the morning tea, or buy a raffle ticket, your support makes a difference.
For more details, visit Linton Takeaway or check for updates on local noticeboards and social media. Let’s Pink Up Linton this October!

Hi everyone,
Another month has flown by, and we’re continuing to make steady progress on a couple of key projects: the Blue Tree Project and the renaming of the Railway Precinct to Jennings Park. We recently met with a Council representative regarding the renaming, and we're pleased to report that the discussions were very positive. These things can take time, but we’re moving in the right direction and following the required processes.
A couple of upcoming events to keep in mind:
Pink Up Linton Morning Tea – Join us at Linton Takeaway on Friday, 31 October in support of the McGrath Foundation It’s a great cause and a chance to catch up with others in the community.
Townwide Garage Sale – Happening next month! This popular event brings lots of visitors to Linton, so it’s a great time to get involved, grab a bargain, or sell some treasures.
Our next Linton & District Progress Association meeting is on Tuesday 21 October, and as always, everyone is welcome Come along to hear more about what’s happening and how you can get involved
Warm regards,
Margaret Jenkie

In the lead-up to the much-anticipated Town Wide Garage Sale on Sunday, 9 November, the Linton & District Progress Association is calling on locals to roll up their sleeves for Clean Up Linton Day on Saturday, 25 October
This is a great opportunity for residents to come together and give our beautiful town a bit of TLC before we welcome visitors from near and far The Town Wide Garage Sale brings a huge number of people to Linton, and we want to make sure the town is looking its absolute best!
Cleaning equipment such a rubbish bags, pickup-sticks and gloves will be available from the Linton Community Hub between 10am and 2pm, and we're also seeking support from the Council to provide a skip bin for rubbish disposal.

To thank volunteers for their efforts, The Linton Pub has generously offered a free sausage sizzle for all participants, so make sure to swing by for a well-earned snag! There are also plans to fire up the community ride-on mower to tidy up the nature strips and give the streets a fresh, clean look.
Whether it’s picking up rubbish, trimming edges or sprucing up your own front yard, every bit counts. Let’s show our pride in our town and make Linton shine for the big event in November.
More details will be shared on the Linton Community Facebook page, and notices will be going up around town soon.
If you have any questions, ideas, or would like to offer your specialised services such as mowing or high pressure cleaning, please email us at linton.progress@gmail.com.
Let’s clean up, come together, and celebrate the best of Linton!

Spring has Sprung and that means bowls season is upon us Finally, members have returned from their travels in warmer climates – others just relieved that they no longer have to make the daily travels to the wood shed dressed like the Michelin man
Linton and District Bowling Club have just over 50 members Our competition Pennant season commences 4th October It is an open competition so our teams comprise of both Men and Women Fortunately, some identify has cooks/bakers, so our afternoon teas are excellent and, others identify has volunteers to help keep our surrounds looking beautiful and keep the club ticking along Most importantly, we all identify as Bowlers although some, like in any sport, might have an exaggerated opinion of their skill level – just joking
Bowls is a great sport as it gets you outside and doing some albeit slow exercise. It also helps mentally has you need to concentrate on your delivery and you also have the opportunity to have a chat. We have ex footballers, Cricketers, Netballers out on the greens enjoying playing sport again – and people from a diverse work life – Teachers, health industry, technicians, farmers, retail, Tour guide and much more.
There are 24 clubs we can potentially play against. Most are in Ballarat be we do venture to Learmonth, Waubra, Clunes, Daylesford, Bungaree and
Buninyong – where is the community bus when you need one Conversely, these clubs will be travelling to Linton so if you see people looking lost, dressed in a colourful polo shirt, point them towards the primary school
We always welcome new members so drop by the club any Thursday after 4pm
The Club is also participating in THE TOWN-WIDE GARAGE SALE on Sunday 9 November. Members are contributing goods to be sold and there will be a raffle along with Tea, Jam and Scones to give you sustenance on your journey around Linton. th

It appears our members who are enjoying their absence may have forgotten Linton, its climate, and their Mens’ Shed. A couple of the lads are not real flash presently, and we await their return The bond we have between us has meant regular updates as to their wellbeing. That is not a throw away line, as all Social Clubs look after their members.
I digress A couple of weeks ago, a charming lady entered, and after the usual pleasantries, asked if we could undertake (hint) a project for her. Surely. A coffin! Ready for Hallow e’en! They have a hearse, skeleton, and fake body parts, but no coffin
Hank to the rescue And he has turned out a “genuine”, well, almost coffin
Cleaning up at day’s end. How can a small project produce so much shavings that require vacuuming half of the workshop. The sawdust makes wonderful lining for paths in the vegie patch
This little job saw mixed reaction, but come the big night, we will delight in the finished product.
No dull days, boys and girls Love the Shed
Cheers to all
The Linton and District Men’s Shed

The numbers of the community who require some relief when things are tough remains a constant Small talk with many of our visitors gives us an idea as to when they need a few essentials to carry through
We have taken possession (really?) of some unused space in the Hub.
When the small project is complete, we will have ample room to store a lot of produce, instead of it stacked on top of cabinets in our cramped space with fridges and freezers
The variety of goods delivered has sometimes been a surprise, with a glut of some things, and nothing of others.
The new storage area will make it much easier to keep track of exactly the amounts of all goods, and when to display them
We still would love a sponsor for any particular month, either to remain anonymous, or we publish their family name or business with our gratitude
More news next month.
We had our AGM on Sunday 14 September in the Community Hub.
Jill Wheeler presented the Society’s annual report, and our Treasurer, Karen Ronan, tabled the annual financial report

Councillor Des Phelan took the chair for the election of the new management committee for 2025/26. The following were elected unopposed: President: Jill Wheeler; Secretary: Drew Hopkins; Treasurer: Karen Ronan; Committee: Sue Collins, Monica Keefe.
Jill Wheeler then delivered a power point presentation entitled How Gold Created Linton
Members then enjoyed a yummy afternoon tea and a catch-up chat afterwards
Our next two open days will be on 12 October and 9 November 2-5pm, at the Letty Armstrong Resource Centre.

Members of the Craft Group worked on a beautiful quilt for Linton Takeaway to raffle during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.
The quilt is on show at the Takeaway along with raffle tickets raising money for the McGrath Foundation during October’s “Pink Up Linton”.

Meanwhile Raelene has been working on another lovely quilt featuring vintage caravans for a club raffle, while Rosemary experiments with some knitted bed socks.

Linton Craft Group members have also been busy supporting another worthy charity – the Ballarat Animal Shelter. After a parvovirus outbreak at the shelter in July, all bedding had to be destroyed so a donation of 100 newly made blankets was much appreciated A special project organised by Craft Group member Di, the blankets were made with just some of the fabric donated to the Craft Group by the local community – individual dog coats are next on the list of special projects!

The handover of the blankets was attended by shelter staff, Craft Group members and City of Ballarat officials including mayor Tracey Hargreaves. Also in attendance was shelter dog Marmalade who won the hearts of everyone
The Linton & District Craft Group meets every Thursday at the Linton Community Hub, from 10 am until 3 pm. New members are warmly welcomed.
The Goldbrush Painters continue to meet every Friday morning at the Linton Community Hub from 10:00am ‘til afternoonish and are very receptive and welcoming to new participants From beginners to the more seasoned, there is plenty of support and encouragement to go around
Members continue to support the Golden Plains Shire initiated Golden Spaces Exhibition, with expressions of interest for the Summer 2025 iteration recently closing Spanning across 3 locations over a 12 month period, the exhibition is launched at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre then travels up to Smythesdale to be put on display at The Well, before returning to Bannockburn to be shown at the Golden Plains Civic Centre.

The aim of this free community based program, is to encourage the broader community’s participation in and access to the arts in a local setting while providing professional development opportunities for emerging and established artists within the Shire
There has been plenty of local support for the upcoming Buninyong Art Prize & Exhibition in October, as well as the 2025 Lucas Art Show in November. Best of luck to those that have entered
