DESIGNER PROFILE I am a third-year student majoring in Interior Architecture.

My business prioritizes saving the planet and promotes humanity’s well-being. I aspire to design my business to provide the best shopping experience through retail spaces while minimizing energy consumption to reduce environmental impacts. Furthermore, my key design principle is to create a modern, aesthetic and unique space

INTRODUCTION

Everything has changed substantially since the pandemic, including retail space design. In order to avoid infections, people try to interact less, which has led to a progressive integration of high technology, particularly VR and AR, into store interiors. Numerous firms strive to use eco-friendly design strategies and sustainable materials in addition to adhering to the socially conscious branding trend, aiming to fulfill their environmental obligations. Because of that, they manage to win the trust of their consumers by satisfying their emotional and shopping experience

Consumers are more cautious when selecting brands and stores to shop at following the pandemic. In addition, the environment has recently been on high alert, which is why many brands seek to express their messages through the retail spaces and products. The scale is still rather small, though.

Higher-level techniques are used in design, and sustainable design is probably the most popular trend. The design gradually incorporates VR and AR upgrades to help visualize and more effectively present the story.

Up until now, AI has largely been used to optimize smart and sustainable design. Customers’s spacial experiences are well satisfied thanks to the widespread use of virtual reality. The distinction between natural and artificial elements is blurred when several sustainable materials are used.

The retail industry has changed dramatically. Virtual product representations have supplanted physical ones in VR shopping, which is dominant. The use of off-grid technologies by self-sufficient stores emphasizes sustainability. All of the senses are stimulated by clever design, creating a lasting impression. Utilizing biometric authentication, all transactions are completely cashless and without interaction. VR story-telling increases consumer interest in the product. Technology that uses voice commands makes navigation easier.

TREND THESIS

After conducting all of the studies, we found out that socially conscious branding might possibly be a hot trend in the near future. First and foremost, because there are so many issues happening globally, this period is incredibly sensitive to everyone. It is not difficult for each of us to access news concerning global warming, child abuse, gender discrimination, racial injustice and other issues via social platforms; As a result, consumers will be a little more selective when choosing brands before making purchases. They frequently go with those who share their goals and are working to spread the message throughout the world. Between the brand that showing care about the planet and the brand that does not shout their voice to the world, they will certainly choose the one having the same conerns with them.

Additionally, the brand will have a more thoughtful consideration than ever before releasing any campaigns or advertisements as they are aware of how simple it is to stir up cotroversy with words, and once they make a mistaken statement, everyone will turn their back on them. As a result, the quality of the product will greatly increase. Last but not least, architects and interior architects play a very imporatant role because they are seen as a tool to help the business communicate through their respective languages.

BUSINESS COMPETITORS

RED5STUDIO Young interior architecture company Red5studio is situated in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Le Chinh Truc, an interior designer with event design experience and a reputation for using contrast in lighting, founded and now serves as its leader. The team works on 7-8 projects a year, with LIBÉ Flagship Store being one of the more well-known ones in the retail aspect. Since such style was popular at the time, Scandinavian design was pictured in their very first projects. After a short while, the team wants to experiment with more contemporary and different styles.

GACHOT Gachot Studios is an architecture, engineering, and design studio that deals in real estate development, art direction and interior design. It was founded by John and Christine Gachot in 2012 as a collaborative environment with service as its core principle. Simplicity, elegance and acute attention to detail are features that they are building up their image. With their current level of prominence, they take on an uncountable number of projects each year.

Glossier New York Flagship Store is one of the designs that is well-known not only by interior designers and architects but also by gen Z that like beauty or cosmetics.

ODAMI Odami, a Toronto-based architectural and interior design studio, is created by Spainish architect Aránzazu González Bernardo and Canadian designer Michael Fohring. By examining typology, materiality, craft, and light, they concentrate on creating distinctive structures and settings that belong to the clients, the locations, and the stories they represent. Each project develops its own unique identity in this way. They have only 2 or 3 projects annum and are well-known for 2 projects working with Aesop that are Aesop Palisades Village and Aesop Yorkville.

CONCLUSION

As an architecture and interior design firm, our target is creating an image of a green design firm that can help the client from the beginning to the end of the process of making their own space. By keeping well communicate with the clients, we will make them feel satisfied since the very first step which is consulting to the final one, construction. Our customer will own a space that is not only sustainable with off-grid technology combining with eco-friendly materials (bamboo) but also modern with the intergration of AI which is designed by our specialists. A space with the combination of nature and science that create a phygital atmosphere will become our unique style that no where else can do the same.

Week 1: What do you want out of this unit?

I want my skills will be improve and I can basically visualize my own business in the future and foresee the next trend.

What are the opportunities for interior architects in your given topic?

Interior architects will have more opportunities to apply their knowledge in various ways in retail industry.

Should interior architects be aware and design for future trends? Why or Why not?

It depends. Foreseeing new trends can bring them some benefits from that. But maintaining their initual image is also important. Therefore, they should be aware of upcoming trends and then figure out the way to do it by their own.

Week 2: What do you think is an interior architect’s value proposition to their clients?

It is crucial to picture what we got and what the customer needs and what they afraid of. Then we can consult or adjust our service basing on customer’s demands.

Do you think we as an industry need to strengthen the architect’s value in the public’s eye? Why or why not?

Definitely yes. There is still a group of people thinks that architects just try to gain the profit from making unnecessary things and additional costs; Yet they don’t know that architects also play an important role in easing global warming and deliver their client’s message through the space.

Week 3: What value do interior architecture firms provide their clients, and is this value unique?

The client will have mental satisfaction and their existing reputation will be improve signigicantly.

Is it important for interior architecture firms to analyze their competitors? Why or Why not?

It is very important in my point of view.

As if we know their strengths and their weaknesses, our threats will be reduced and we will have a group of loyal customer by avoiding their weaknesses and learning from their strong points.

How can interior architecture firms establish themselves apart from their competitors?

By determine the common thing of numerous architecture firms out there. We can learn from it and create the new one that only we have. Also, maintaining our initual purposes will make us become unique among all the firms that changing their target time to time.

Week 5: Do you think interior architecture firms need to have a long-term vision? Why or why not?

Yes, I do think so. Because if they can foresee the upcoming trends or technology, so they can pioneer in the industry.

Should interior architecture firms update their visions regularly? Or maintain one for

In my opinion, I prefer maintaining the initual targets; However, we should update new technique and trends and apply it selectively to improve our existing reputation and also catch up with the others in the industry.

Week 6: Do you think clients remunerate interior architecture firms’ value appropriately?

Why or why not?

It depends on which client, I think. Some will happy to pay what the firm asks for.

Nevertheless, there is still a small group of clients who try to negotiate to decrease the price that the firm charge them. Since they still have a thought that architects does not need to do such many things to deserve to be paid such a high cost.

How can interior architects better communicate their value to prospective clients?

They will try to provide a full service package from consulting to construction and arrange appointments to update the process with their clients.

Week 7: What is positioning and why is it important? What does a good business positioning look like?

After going through a whole unit, I think positioning is when a firm know their position in the market, their strengths, weaknesses and how to serve their clients in the best way. It is crucial for the firm will have

time to look back what they are missing and what they are good at. Then they can improve their firm better.

Week 9: Do you think interior architecture firms have different business models or do most firm use the same generic business model? Why do you think so? How can interior architecture firms strengthen their business model to stand out from other interior architecture firms?

It is hard to say, but I think each interior architecture firm will have their own business model. I think so because I believe each firm with have different path and different target. Due to that, the way they run their firm will be distinguished. By considering who is their target customer or what image they want to send to the world will define them and make them become unique.
