What a busy and wonderful 2024! I am proud of all that we have accomplished over the last year and look forward to the year ahead as we embark on our NSC rink revitalization project to replace the aging infrastructure, improve accessibility and create new meeting and storage spaces. You can learn more about the project on our website and follow along on our socials as we go.
The Town has also started our annual budget process. I encourage you to take the time to attend or watch the budget meetings to learn more about where your tax dollars go, and for you to provide your thoughts on how tax dollars are allocated.
Winter tends to be the time when we like to hide away but there is so much to do this season. With fun events like World Junior exhibition hockey games, free holiday skating, and activities such as sledge hockey and the return of Wintermission, there is no shortage of things to help residents enjoy this chilly season. Take a few minutes to read through this guide to learn about the activities happening in Arnprior this winter.
If you still have some presents to check off your list, I encourage you to shop local when possible. We have great local businesses, happy to assist by offering amazing experiences and creating some incredible holiday memories. I wish you and your family a very happy holiday season,
Lisa McGee,

Come visit our collections! Arnprior + District Museum features belongings from local folks who spun fibre. This yarn winder and spinning wheel, donated by Liz Cambell, was used by Jane Elizabeth Sparrow, otherwise known as Aunt Jenny. Born in May of 1874 (Fitzroy, ON), Aunt Jenny lived next to St Mark’s Anglican Church in Pakenham.
It is believed that the first Sparrow to come to Canada was Aunt Jenny’s grandfather, John “Soldier” Sparrow (1785-1855). He served in the British military during the War of 1812. He was wounded and taken prisoner in 1813, and invalided back to England. He returned to Canada in 1815 with his wife and children.
We have drop spindles made by Arnprior’s Ian Bartlett for you to try spinning. Book a time to visit the museam and explore historic fibre tools. Reach out or follow our Facebook and Instagram channels to hear about future classes.

Despite the best efforts of Town Staff snowfall may leave fire hydrants obstructed. The Arnprior Fire Department would like to remind you that a clearly visible, accessible fire hydrant could save your home - or even your life. If a fire hydrant is lost or buried in snow, firefighters can lose valuable time trying to locate it when they first arrive at a fire.
If you feel up to it, you could perform a valuable public service by shoveling out and clearing any fire hydrants near your home during and after a snowstorm.
If you do choose to assist in keeping our Town safe, we would like to offer these suggestions:
• Know the location of all fire hydrants
• Make sure they are shoveled clear after • Clear away any snow and ice in the area drants, ensuring the snow is cleared a distance of three feet around the hydrant.
Did you know a building permit is required for many renovations in your home including adding walls, removing or opening up walls, or creating a new bedroom? A permit is not required for cosmetic renovations such replacing tiles or carpet, or painting.
Why do I need a building permit?
Building Officials review building permit applications to ensure what is proposed meets the Ontario Building Code (OBC). They also conduct inspections, making sure the work matches the approved plans. Keep in mind, insurance may not cover work done without permits and inspections, leaving you with extra costs following property damage or loss.
Why do our Building Officials do what they do?
- We make sure construction, and renovations are safe for you and your family.
- Your property is an investment. If your construction project doesn’t comply with the OBC, the value of your investment could be reduced. Learn More

The Arnprior Fire Department would like to remind everyone of simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe when cooking.

Ensure you have a “kid-free zone” of at least 3 feet around the stove and areas where hot food is prepared
Stay in the kitchen while you are frying, boiling, grilling, or broiling food.
Remain in the home while food is cooking, and use a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
Keep anything that can catch fire away from your stovetop.
Do not run a fueled engine indoors, even if garage doors are open. Make sure the exhaust pipe of a running vehicle is not blocked. Clear snow away.
During and after a snowstorm, make sure vents for the dryer, furnace, stove and fireplace are clear of snow build-up.
Only use a generator outdoors in a well ventilated location away from windows, doors, and vent openings.
Have heating equipment and chimneys inspected by a professional every year before cold weather sets in.

Just get out! When you leave, close the door behind you to help contain the fire.
