Message from the Mayor
I hope you all had a wonderful summer and had a chance to enjoy all the summer events and beautiful outdoor spaces Arnprior has to offer.
As usual, the recreation department has lots planned this fall to keep you active and busy from a final Movie in the Park and annual Haunted Hall (pg. 7) to Youth Club and fitness classes (pg. 4)!
The Fall is also a time to freshen up on fire safety with Fire Prevention Week and Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week. Make sure you are doing everything you can to protect you and your family with the Fire Departments tips on page 10.
In October, we celebrate Local Government Week. I encourage you to learn about how you can get involved in your local government by keeping up to date with Council matters and sharing your feedback and opinions in the many engagement opportunities offered.
Have a wonderful Fall and remember I am only a phone call or e-mail away!

The Town is partnering with FoodCycle Science again to help Arnprior residents purchase a FoodCyclerTM countertop composter at a subsidized rate! There are also now three (3) bucket sizes available for purchase.
The diversion of food and organic waste from the landfill through composting at home is a way that our community can significantly reduce household emissions of carbon dioxide that contribute to Climate Change and extend the life of our landfill helping keep municipal services more affordable for all.

Fire Safety
Test Your Smoke Alarm Day! Sept. 28th
“Saved by the Beep”, encourages you to learn more about smoke alarms, fire safety, and home fire escape planning and test your smoke alarms.
The Arnprior Fire Department will come to your home by appointment and test your smoke and CO alarms to ensure that they are working properly. The Arnprior Fire Department’s Home Fire and Life Safety Program runs Sept. 28, 2024 to Oct. 12, 2024. Schedule a visit online at www.arnprior.ca/savedbythebeep or call 613-623 4231 ext. 2 to book your appointment!
Why do I need a smoke alarm?
Fire Prevention Week October 6-12, 2024
Working smoke alarms can make a life-saving difference in a home fire, giving people the time to get out safe!
Most fatal fires occur at night when people are sleeping. A working smoke alarm will detect smoke, and sound to alert you. Effective March 1, 2006, it is the law for all Ontario homes to have a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas. This covers single family, semi-detached and town homes, whether owner-occupied or rented.
• Make sure smoke alarms meet the needs of all family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.
• Test smoke alarms at least once a month by pushing the test button.
• Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old.
Where should I install smoke alarms?
Because smoke rises, it is recommended you place the alarms on the ceiling. Avoid ceilings near bathrooms, heating appliances, windows and ceiling fans. The smoke alarm should be installed between each sleeping area and the remainder of the building or where a sleeping area is served by a hallway, install the alarm in the hall. Always install the smoke alarm in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions.
Fall Hydrant Flushing will run from September 1st - 30th. It may cause some rust from iron water pipes to be disturbed, which can result in temporary red discoloration of the drinking water, known as “red water”. This is normal, expected and temporary.

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week
November 1 – 7, 2024
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas that is called the silent killer because it cannot be seen or smelled. Take action to stay safe from CO poisoning. It can make a person feel sick and can even be deadly. Heating and cooking devices that burn fuel can be sources of carbon monoxide. CO alarms should be installed outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home. It is best to use interconnected alarms so that when one sounds, all CO alarms in the home sound. Test alarms every month.
