Thriving in Style
Dear Reader,
I hope this letter finds you inspired and ready to embrace the beauty of self-expression.
Style is such an extraordinary part of life— it’s far more than the clothes we wear or the accessories we choose. Style is woven into every detail of our existence, from the way we decorate our homes to the art and music we enjoy, the books we read, and even how we interact with the world around us. It’s the unique thread that creates the tapestry of who we are.
What makes style so captivating is its deeply personal nature. It evolves alongside us as we explore new interests, embrace our quirks, and express what we value most. It’s a language without words, a powerful tool for connection that can bridge differences and spark shared understanding.
Here in Woodstock, we’re fortunate to have endless opportunities to celebrate and explore style. Whether it’s through visiting local boutiques, supporting creative entrepreneurs, or simply drawing inspiration from our city’s vibrant culture, there’s so much to ignite your creativity and lift your spirit.
This month, I encourage you to think of style as an authentic expression of yourself. The most beautiful style is one that reflects who you truly are—your passions, your story, your individuality. And the incredible thing is that no one else in the world can replicate that.
So go ahead, celebrate your unique style. Whether you’re exploring new trends, blending classic elements, or creating something entirely original, let this issue inspire you to embrace the power of self-expression.
Here’s to being unapologetically and uniquely you!

Exploring Athens’ food scene, culture, and stylish accommodations
in Elegance
Athens, Georgia is best known for their college football. While the sports culture is rich and the University of Georgia campus is impressive, there is so much more to the historic city, just a two hour drive from Woodstock.
The Athenian is a boutique hotel that mixes modern style with historic charm for a luxurious and memorable stay. The building is Greek Revival style, built in 1843. In it’s previous lives, it served as a tuberculosis hospital, boarding house, a commercial office space, and more. It re-opened in late 2024 as a boutique hotel.
Each room at The Athenian is named after a Greek god or goddess, carefully styled to be pleasing to the eye. The Ares room is gorgeously furnished and red-themed, in a way that fits its name perfectly, but also feels exciting and not overwhelming. The Ares suite features a room with two twin beds in addition to the king bedroom; ideal for families.
The Athenian lounge felt like something out of a movie. With dark green tones, low music, and cushiony chairs, it was inviting and fun to relax in the lounge in between outings. They keep the fridges stocked with sodas, sparkling water, and local beer from Creature Comforts brewery, located less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel. And their snack selection is unmatched.
Puma Yu’s, a Thai restaurant just outside downtown, is home to James Beard Award-nominated chef Pete Amadhanirundr. The cuisine was expertly crafted and accessible to various diets. It’s always such a rewarding experience when you can tell how much effort went into perfecting a recipe. We recommend the Mushroom Tom Kha, Garlic Pork Noodle, and Sesame Miso Salad.
Pretty Boy, located downtown, is a Vietnamese-American restaurant with a modern stylish flair. The cuisine is innovative. The servers were veritable experts on the restaurant’s history and menu and happy to accommodate varying diets. You can ask for the server’s recommendations at
any restaurant, but here it felt intentional and passionate. The mango sorbet is an unmissable experience. We also recommend the Stir-fried Bok Choy and Chilled Peanut Noodles.
Every time I get a taste of the 90s or early 2000s, I’m immediately a fan. That’s the atmosphere of Big City Bread Cafe. It felt like I was transported to a brunch spot from 20 years ago. It’s cozy and I was so delighted that they’ve kept the style consistent for years. The tofu vegetable saute is a must for everyone and a testament to the power of simple seasoning to create the most mouth-watering dish. The nutritional yeast gravy made me nearly beg for the recipe! They feature a whole menu of perfectly classic brunch fare.
OTHER ITINERARY RECOMMENDATIONS:
• Georgia Museum of Art
• A concert at UGA’s Hodgson Concert hall
• Condor Chocolates
• Hot Corner Celebration & Soul Food Festival
The next time you have a long weekend, take little trip to Athens and experience the style and culture that make the city vibrant.

HOMEBUYING IN STYLE
CATCHING UP WITH SIERRA AND DAVID WESTRICK OF THE ONE PURPOSE GROUP
ARTICLE BY SARA HAGEN
FOR PROSPECTIVE HOMEBUYERS IN 2025 AND BEYOND, WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS ABOUT NAVIGATING THE MARKET?
My top advice is: be prepared, be patient, and be informed. The market continues to shift, and success comes down to working with a knowledgeable agent, getting pre-approved before you shop, and understanding what your true must-haves are. Inventory is still tight in many areas, so it’s important to stay flexible while also being ready to act quickly when the right home hits the market.
HAVE YOU NOTICED ANY DESIGN TRENDS IN WHAT BUYERS ARE LOOKING FOR LATELY? ANYTHING SPECIFIC TO OUR LOCAL MARKET?
Absolutely. Buyers are really drawn to functional luxury— think high-end finishes but in livable, everyday spaces. A new trend that’s my favorite is the old fashioned “scullery”. A scullery is a secondary kitchen or prep area, typically located just off the main kitchen. It’s designed to keep the mess and clutter out of sight—think of it as a hidden workspace for: Food prep, Washing dishes, Storing appliances or cookware, Pantry overflow.
In modern homes, sculleries often include a second sink, countertop space, cabinets, and sometimes even a dishwasher or fridge. They’re especially popular in luxury or new construction homes where open-concept living demands that the main kitchen stay clean and presentable. I’m in LOVE with ours.
WHAT’S
ONE THING MOST BUYERS SOMETIMES FORGET TO CONSIDER WHEN LOOKING FOR A HOME?
Resale value and neighborhood trajectory. Buyers often focus on what works for them right now, but forget to ask: How will this home age with me? or How does this neighborhood stack up for long-term growth? I always encourage clients to think 5–7 years ahead, even if they think they’ll be there “forever.”
WHAT KINDS OF COMMUNITY FEATURES, LIKE PARKS AND SCHOOLS, DO YOU GET REQUESTS FOR THE MOST?
Walkability to parks, downtown areas, and good schools remains a top request—especially in Woodstock and surrounding suburbs. Buyers are prioritizing community vibes, local events, access to trails, and proximity to restaurants or live music. It’s not just about the home anymore—it’s about the lifestyle that comes with it.
“It’s not just about the home anymore—it’s about the lifestyle that comes with it.”
HOW HAS SELLING AND BUYING HOMES CHANGED IN THE YEARS SINCE COVID-19 BEGAN?
Virtual tools are here to stay—buyers expect video tours, FaceTime showings, and seamless digital contracts. But beyond that, there’s been a shift in values. People are more intentional about their spaces, more focused on comfort, privacy, and functionality. Home is no longer just a place—it’s your office, gym, and retreat. Sellers also tend to be more educated now; they know what it takes to market a home effectively and expect high-level service.
WHY STYLE MATTERS MORE THAN EVER
Avoiding the Pitfalls of Outdated Trends While Elevating Your Home’s Value
ARTICLE BY JIMI GARIP - MANAGING PARTNER, DESIGN & REMODEL BROTHERS PHOTOGRAPHY BY DESIGN & REMODEL BROTHERS
There is a quiet fear running through many upscale homeowners today, especially those contemplating renovations: What if I invest a large sum in updating my home, only to end up with something that feels dated in just a few years? That concern is more valid than many would like to admit. We have watched homeowners pour serious money into highly stylized remodels, only to learn, too late, that what looked "cutting edge" two years ago now feels tired, mismatched, or even unmarketable. In this uncertain housing market, style is no longer just an expression of taste; it is a calculated investment. And when the wrong choices are made, the cost can be more than just aesthetic; it can directly affect the home's appeal, its market time, and its final selling price.
At Design & Remodel Brothers, we have worked with homeowners at every stage of this journey. One client's story stands out in Woodstock. The couple had a spacious home in a desirable area, but the interior had not been touched in over a decade. The layout was fine, but the finishes screamed early 2000s, brown granite, heavy drapes, bulky fixtures. They had already tried listing the house, but it sat untouched on the market for six months.
When we stepped in, we did not suggest tearing it down or gutting the space. Instead, we made calculated style moves: we introduced a lighter, more balanced palette, updated lighting throughout, replaced dated hardware with timeless matte finishes, and removed visual noise that was distracting buyers from seeing the home's potential. The result? The home went under contract within two weeks, $15k above asking price, above a full ROI.
This is not a one-off case. It is a recurring pattern. Style, when done thoughtfully and professionally, can be the difference between a home that sells and one that sits. And the good news? It does not always require a massive overhaul.
Here are a few simple updates we often recommend to clients who want immediate elevation without deep demolition:
• Swap outdated light fixtures for warm, clean-lined statement pieces.
• Refinish cabinetry and update hardware for a fresh, highend look.
• Replace overly trendy backsplash patterns with more neutral, textured options.
• Layer lighting sources , a balance of overhead, accent, and natural light changes everything.
• Upgrade mirrors and framed elements to create focal points that feel intentional, not leftover.

“ WE ENCOURAGE OUR CLIENTS TO THINK OF STYLE NOT JUST AS DECORATION, BUT AS STRATEGY.”
But even with simple upgrades, there's room for mistakes, and we see them often in higher-end homes:
• Over-matching finishes: too much brass or too much black can feel contrived.
• Clashing aesthetics between rooms: inconsistency breaks flow and confuses buyers.
• Choosing trends over structure: oversized islands or open shelving everywhere may not work for the space. Neglecting lighting: even the best materials fall flat in poorly lit spaces.
• Skipping texture and depth: a room without layered materials can feel sterile and forgettable.
We encourage our clients to think of style not just as decoration, but as strategy. The homes that age well, sell quickly, and people love to live in are rarely the flashiest. They are the ones built on balance, cohesion, and a clear understanding of how function meets form.
We hope to bring more information to those who are cautious, deliberate, and unwilling to make costly mistakes. Because the truth is, style matters more than ever, but only when it is done right, by professionals who have experience in Design-to-Build. For more design insights, project inspiration, and professional tips on avoiding costly renovation missteps, we invite readers to follow our ongoing work through our blog and social media, where we share real transformations, expert advice, and the latest in timeless home styling.

LIVING STYLE in
THE INTERSECTION OF FASHION AND HOME
ARTICLE BY TYLER AMADEUS PHOTOGRAPHY BY ADRIEN KING AND ALEC WALWORTH
INthis unexpected love affair, fashion and interiors are more than just a simple pairing—they are rooted in culture, creativity, and the human desire for self-expression.
As conscious consumers of the 21st century, participating in a retail landscape that is oversaturated and struggling to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the modern customer, our purchasing power should not only respond to a feeling of want but also prioritize items that reflect who we are and who we aspire to be. This is clearly visible through the representation of fashion and interiors.
Although we tend to consider cost-perwear primarily when it comes to clothing, this same principle applies to furniture and the function it brings to the home. Aesthetics and functionality both play a role in this pairing, painting a picture for
the rest of the world of who the wearer is and how they live in their space.
The woman who wears a blazer with sharp shoulders that makes her feel powerful in her everyday life—or the black dress that gives her a necessary boost of confidence—may naturally gravitate toward sleek, modern furniture that feels equally strong and elevates the space where the modern woman thrives.
In the same way, someone who prefers an effortless ensemble—like their favorite white T-shirt and comfortable denim jeans—may also look for home pieces that
are functional and make their guests feel at ease. Even a handmade rug, one that sparks conversation about where it was found and adds a focal point to a room, mirrors how we search our closets for a sweater tied to a cherished memory.
Just as we carefully choose outfits to express ourselves, it’s equally important to ensure that our living spaces are designed with the same intention. More than ever, modern buyers are making purchasing decisions based on personal morals and values, forming a new wave of consumers who seek products that are both high-quality and environmentally or socially conscious, whether for themselves or their homes.
The following imagery affirms that living a timeless lifestyle across all aspects of life is possible through the thoughtful styling of sustainable clothing and vintage furniture. As the modern retail landscape continues to evolve, it’s become increasingly vital to make conscious consumer choices—ones that allow us to express our truest selves through both our wardrobes and the places we call home.

Investing in Your Wardrobe Without Compromising Your Style
ARTICLE BY LISA WOLF
1.
IT’S POSSIBLE TO SHOW YOUR UNIQUE STYLE WITH NICE CLOTHES WHILE ALSO STRETCHING YOUR DOLLAR
One’s wardrobe says a lot about a person and it is important to dress to the occasion whether it be work or play while still expressing yourself. Building a wardrobe can be a costly expense but it’s possible to show your unique style with nice clothes while also stretching your dollar.
2.
A FUN, SUSTAINABLE WAY TO BUILD A HIGH-QUALITY AND STYLISH WARDROBE
Second-hand and vintage-style clothes are a fun, sustainable way to build a high-quality and stylish wardrobe without breaking the bank. Buying handmade and second-hand also reduces the demand for new clothing production, which helps reduce waste and the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
SIMPLE, WILD, CLASSIC, COLORFUL; DON’T BE AFRAID TO SHOW YOUR STYLE
The best way to keep your wardrobe fresh is to look for either trendy or classic new pieces and match them with your favorite vintage or second-hand pieces, like a new dress with your grandma’s old leather jacket or a recently purchased foundation piece with a skirt made from vintage fabrics. Simple, wild, classic, colorful; don’t be afraid to show your style and your financial fashion savvy at the same time.
Some pieces are simply better when they are second-hand like worn denim and lived-in boots or leather that’s softened over time. Get creative and add touches to your old favorites with patches, embroidery, and even natural flower colors transferred to fabric. Grab your old t-shirts, family vintage fabrics, or lace, and pull it all together into something new and memorable.
