Ethereal Goats, Earthly Pecans is a deeply personal exhibition by Victoria Gonzale s that weaves together memory, ritual, and the rhythms of daily l ife through the lens of Tejano culture and the Sout h Texas landscape. Grounded in her identity as a Lati na woman from Texas, Gonzales explores the evolving nature of labor, family, and tradition—fro m her grandparents’ work in the fields to her parents’ transformation of land into a small, thriv ing farm. With warmth and reverence, the exhibition invites viewers into intimate rituals, symbols of g rowth, and stories rooted in heritage and home.
There’s something timeless and grounding about gathering around a table to share a meal with the people we love. It’s not just about the food itself—it’s about what happens in those moments between bites. A table has a way of drawing us together, inviting conversation, laughter, and the kind of connection that often gets lost in the rush of daily life.
Growing up my mom always made it a priority to have dinner as a family. Looking back I have no idea how she made it happen with all of our activities and running around but I’m confident in knowing that her decision to make this a priority greatly impacted my life. The dinner table became a treasured place allowing for great conversation and a time of drawing closer to the ones I loved most.
Now making this a priority in our own family, Hunter and I already see the benefits of having time together around the table. There is something significant about having this time together, putting away distractions, pausing from a busy day and thanking God for everything he has done. My hope is that our table is a place for loved ones to gather and for us to continue creating memories that last a lifetime, sparking conversations that are inspiring, encouraging, and filled with hope.
So let us cherish the table. Let us make time for it, protect it, and use it as a place to reconnect. Because its not just about eating together—it’s about truly being together.

PUT A CORK IN IT OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES TO CULTIVATE A TRUE PASSION FOR WINE
During his twenties, when Chris Keel and some coworkers shared a bottle of wine, Chris got his first indication that the way his palate processed the wine’s flavors might be different than the average consumer.
“It was a bottle of California Cabernet, and I commented that it had some really good red fruits as well as some herbs and oak,” Chris shares. “My manager thought

I’d had the wine before, but it was my first time ever having red wine. That is when I learned I had a good palate for wine and really caught the wine bug. From there, I started doing tastings and learning about wine.”
That journey led Chris to eventually open Put A Cork In It, a neighborhood wine boutique that carries domestic and international wines from the most famous wine regions of the world. “California wines are very popular, but because of
my love for Italian wines, we have a very good Italian selection, which usually includes wine from every region in Italy,” says Chris. “We also carry a lot of French wines from the four main regions, as well as a sparkling wine collection that we are continuing to expand.”
In addition to opening the shop, Chris broadened his knowledge and pursed certifications as a sommelier and a Certified Specialist of Wine. In 2021, Chris further cultivated his expertise and became one
“I’VE ALWAYS LOVED ITALIAN WINE, FOOD, AND CULTURE.”
of four hundred Italian Wine Ambassadors in the world, a title he earned through the ViaItaly Wine Academy out of Verona, Italy.
“I’ve always loved Italian wine, food, and culture,” Chris explains. “In the fall of 2020, I took a class in Dallas with the Italian Trade Commerce, and I did really well in that class. Then they invited me to take the class to be an Italian Wine Ambassador, which I attended in San Francisco. It’s like a master sommelier level class that focuses specifically on Italian wines.”
To help customers explore various wines, Put A Cork In It offers three themed wine clubs: Worldly, Italian, and Bubbles/ Champagne. Wine Club members enjoy early access to tasting new additions to the shop as well as receiving exclusive deals and discounts each month. Members also have priority registration for educational wine classes, which will utilize the new location’s larger space and special addition, a table that seats twelve people and is designed to create an intimate atmosphere for discussions.
Chris also believes that the best way to learn about wine is by sampling different wines and broadening the palate, so the shop offers free wine tastings on Thursday from 5-7pm and from 3-7pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Each week’s tasting features a fun theme and includes a one-ounce pour of six to eight different wines. Weekly tastings are open to the public and do not require a reservation.
Once customers discover a wine they love, whether through the shop or elsewhere, Chris happily goes the extra mile to help them track down their favorites. “We do a lot of special orders,” he says. “Clients email me or text me a picture of the wine they had at a restaurant, and I can find it for them and order whatever they want, even if it is just one bottle. That’s a niche we really enjoy filling, and it helps our customers develop a love of wine.”
Put A Cork In It is located at 2964 Park Hill Drive in Fort Worth. To find out more, visit putacorkinitwine.com and sign up to receive the weekly newsletter, which is filled with details on tastings, classes, and more.

When guests step through the doors of The Mont in Fort Worth’s Montserrat neighborhood, it feels like they’ve been transported to a different era in time. Mahogany wood gleams under soft, moody light. Leather banquettes invite you to linger, and the whole room glows with mid-century charm. Outside the windows, the rolling green landscape stretches into the distance, but inside, the mood is unmistakable: the glitz and glamour of the 1950s, reimagined for today.
The Mont is the latest creation from Jeff Payne and Jason Cross, the duo behind Cousins BBQ. Known for building a beloved brand in casual dining, the two entrepreneurs set their sights on something bold: a restaurant that would feel familiar yet elevated. “They wanted to give Fort Worth diners something refined but approachable,” says
General Manager Doug Farner. At first, the idea leaned toward casual, but once the design team at Maven Interiors got involved, the vision expanded. They crafted an elegant mid-century interior of rich wood, plush leather, and subtle luxury, a space designed to make every meal feel like an event.
Ambience, however, was only half the challenge. To match the setting, Jeff and Jason turned to Culinary Director Michael Arlt, whose fine dining experience helped shape the menu from the ground up. Together, they embarked on a culinary road trip, tasting their way through New York, New Orleans, and Chicago. “Michael is known for his classical techniques,” Doug explains. “He brought those influences back and gave them a Fort Worth spin.”
The Mont’s kitchen is a collaboration of talent. Executive Chef Michael Duff, formerly of Eddie V’s, brings his own refined approach. Sous Chef Yael Iglesias and Pastry Chef Camila Payet round out the team, ensuring that every plate, from savory to sweet, balances creativity with polish.
The menu features seafood dishes like Grouper served with smoked pine nut fumet and wilted greens, Roasted Monkfish Tail paired with streaky bacon and a truffle vinaigrette, and Red Snapper Ceviche brightened with pickled red onion and jalapeño. The beef dishes are equally thoughtful, sourcing only the highest quality cuts to craft refined takes on classic steakhouse favorites. Each dish reflects the philosophy at the heart of The Mont: take something classic, and make it unforgettable.
“They wanted to give Fort Worth diners something refined, but approachable.”
Of course, no mid-century-inspired dining experience would be complete without cocktails. The Mont’s bar menu draws on the classics of the 1950s and ’60s, but updates them with a modern sensibility. It’s the kind of place where the drinks are as carefully curated as the food, designed to transport you to another time without ever feeling dated. From the Freezer Martini to The Mont Old Fashioned, there’s something for everyone.
For Jeff and Jason, The Mont represents more than a single restaurant. It’s the flagship of Around the Fire Hospitality, their growing restaurant group. With Arlt at the culinary helm, the team is already at work on their next concept: Beverly’s, a downtown Fort Worth venture that promises to carry forward the same blend of refinement, nostalgia, and innovation.
Make sure to stop by The Mont for a dining experience you won’t forget, and check out their latest updates at themontfw. com and on social media @themontfw.

Eder Teixeira, founder of Sons Coffee, grew up in Brazil’s coffee belt, in a small town on the border of Minas Gerais and Bahia. His childhood was steeped in the culture of coffee, shaped by his great-grandmother, who roasted beans to support her family.
“She lived to be almost 105,” Eder recalls. “I remember going to her house; there was always the smell of coffee, always a roaster somewhere. That memory is ingrained in me. Our family has now been in coffee for over 100 years, and it was special that she lived long enough to see Sons open.”
Watching her build a legacy sparked a lifelong passion. As a child, Eder often drove past a massive coffee farm near the city of Teixeira. Years later, his journey came full circle: he returned as a customer, negotiating to buy beans from the very farm that once fascinated him.
“Brazil isn’t just where we buy coffee,” he says. “It’s where the story began.”
Years before Sons Coffee broke ground, Eder was a youth pastor. He wrote a personal letter to God asking for provision and guidance into this next season of life as he continued to work hard and connect with those around him. But even after signing a lease to start Sons Coffee, he realized that the project was going to cost a lot more time and money than he had anticipated.
Worried about the future of his company, God showed up through a friend of Eder’s— the late Sam Iweis of Kindred Coffee in North Richland Hills. “Sam didn’t just cut a check; he found the space, negotiated the lease, and signed with me. He showed up when I was running out of funds and gave me a check, remembering how I had helped him with his own shop years before. Sons Coffee exists because a friend showed up. That’s God showing up through people,” Eder shares.

Eder has spent years building brands and communities. Before Sons Coffee, Eder founded the Creative Mind Lab, a design and SEO agency that evolved into a high-level tech consultancy. Although he earned the title of award-winning designer, his heart craved experiences that felt more intentional from start to finish. “I left client work because I wanted to ship a product I could own end-to-end. After years of subjective feedback, I wanted to create a brand where my blueprint and fingerprint defined the quality. Coffee is that product,” Eder shares.
The blueprint of Sons Coffee was built in the spaces it sought to perfect. “I built my first company out of coffee shops. They were my office, my university, and my sanctuary. I always had this fascination with them, and I knew one day I would build my own,” says Eder.
The name “Sons” and its tagline, “Carry the Name. Push it Forward,” reflect both heritage and innovation. At Sons Coffee, every cup honors a family history of more than 100 years while looking ahead to the future. Their commitment to craft is rooted in legacy, carried forward with care, and reimagined through creativity.
When Sons Coffee opened in 2017, it quickly stood out for pushing boundaries. They were among the first U.S. shops to put milk and lattes on tap, solving the technical challenge of keeping dairy stable in a draft system. In 2024, they brought that same system back to Brazil.
From pioneering tap technology to being the only Texas company to reach the Brewers Cup finals, Sons Coffee continues to elevate the craft.
Their creativity extends to the menu as well. House-made syrups, ethically sourced milk, and signature drinks define the experience. A local favorite, the Oat-Chata, is made from oats and spices steeped for over 24 hours, then served on tap. Paired with their

curated pastries, it’s the kind of offering that keeps regulars coming back. Whether you stop in for a latte or order freshly roasted coffee online, Sons ensures the same commitment to quality.
Today, Sons Coffee is deepening its roots in Fort Worth.
“Our next phase is to enhance our physical space, making it a truly unique and essential cornerstone destination for the community,” Eder says.
But the vision extends far beyond four walls. The team is expanding its on-site roastery, building intentional corporate partnerships, and consulting cafes across the U.S. In Brazil, the soil where it all began, they continue sourcing and innovating, carrying forward a family tradition now more than a century old.
For Eder, every cup tells that story. It’s not just about coffee, it’s about legacy, community, and pushing the name forward.

GETTING TO KNOW KNOX STEPHENS, THE 2025 RECIPIENT OF THE PERKINS ORTHODONTICS SCHOLARSHIP
“I HOPE OTHERS ARE INSPIRED TO GET INVOLVED AND EXPERIENCE THE
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO APPLY FOR THE PERKINS SCHOLARSHIP?
I will graduate from Fort Worth Country Day in May 2026, and I currently serve on the Honor Council and am a member of the tennis team. I was a patient of Dr. Perkins and was excited to find a local scholarship opportunity. With so many scholarships being nationwide, this one felt much more personal and meaningful.
WHAT WAS THE FOCUS OF YOUR ESSAY?
I wrote my essay about my volunteer work, specifically the summers I’ve spent volunteering at a camp for individuals with disabilities. The experience has been both challenging and deeply rewarding, it has truly changed my life for the better. Through this work, I’ve grown as a person and learned the power of compassion, resilience, and human connection.
WHY DO YOU THINK VOLUNTEERING IS IMPORTANT?
Community service is a deeply valuable experience. While it may begin as a personal effort to help others, it often evolves into one of the most meaningful and transformative learning opportunities. I hope others are inspired to
get involved and experience the impact for themselves.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
I’ve begun the college application process and am excited to see where the journey takes me. I plan to pursue law school in the future, with the goal of eventually building a career in politics.
WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT THIS NEXT CHAPTER OF LIFE?
In college, I’m excited to step into a new environment, meet people from all walks of life, and broaden my perspective. I’m especially looking forward to becoming an active part of the campus community, getting involved in clubs, service projects, and leadership roles that will help me grow both personally and academically.
HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL TO BE THE WINNER OF THE PERKINS SCHOLARSHIP?
I’m truly grateful to Dr. Perkins for this scholarship. It’s an honor to be recognized, not just for my community service and academic efforts, but through something meaningful and close to home.
