Thanks for 10 Years

I can’t believe it’s our 10-year anniversary! If you had told me back in 2015 that we’d reach this milestone, I wouldn’t have believed it. Starting this magazine was the scariest thing I’ve ever done (and I’ve had children). My friends and family know I am NOT a risk taker, and launching any kind of business is daunting—especially a print magazine when the world was shifting to digital. We’ve made it this far only because of the incredible people I need to thank.

First, my advertising partners. You are the reason this magazine exists, thank you! Every business advertised here represents a neighbor and their dream. Please support the businesses inside these pages. When we published our 100th issue, we launched the Centennial Club to honor businesses that have advertised with us for 100 issues. There are now nine members; read their reflections on this past decade on page 12.

Next, my amazing editorial team. Your stories and photographs are truly incredible, capturing the heart of our community with creativity, passion and a level of excellence that continues to inspire me every day. I especially want to acknowledge Tera Michelson. She was my editor when we first launched, guiding us through those tricky early months. Over the past decade she’s taken on different roles, but always remained a crucial part of the team. There’s no one I’d rather have by my side.

Thank you to our readers. We appreciate how warmly you’ve embraced the magazine, and we love your input and suggestions. Thank you for faithfully reading each month.

And of course, my family. When I started, I warned them they wouldn’t see me much that first year as I worked 60+ hour weeks, but I promised it would be worth it. Thank you, Mark, Lucas, and Andrew, for patiently believing in me and loving me throughout this roller-coaster journey and to my mother, who has inspired me and cheered me on my entire life.

Cheers to ten years—and many more!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of West Chester + Liberty Lifestyle, we want to recognize milestone anniversaries from the businesses that help make our community thrive. We invited our readers and social media followers to share their business anniversaries so we can celebrate together.

In 2025, Welling & Co. Jewelers is celebrating 4 generations and 105 years in business! Sprimag, a global leader in automated coating systems, proudly celebrates its 100-year anniversary. Butler Tech marks an incredible 50 years of educating our community. Prodigy Title celebrates 25 years of helping people achieve their dream of home ownership. Pump It Up has brought smiles to town for 20 years while UC Health West Chester Hospital reaches 15 years of keeping us healthy. Liberty Center, Centre Park of West Chester, Turner Painting and Cara Jonas Photography (this month’s talented cover photographer) each celebrate their 10-year anniversaries alongside us.

These milestones tell a story of growth, dedication and community spirit. Congratulations to all on these remarkable achievements!

a decade of partnership

CELEBRATING OUR CENTENNIAL CLUB BUSINESSES WITH STORIES, MILESTONES + MEMORIES FROM THE PAST DECADE

As we reflect on the past decade, we turn to our nine Centennial Clients (partners who have advertised with us for 100 issues) to help tell the story of West Chester + Liberty Lifestyle. We asked a variety of questions about their favorite stories, business milestones, community pride, advice for the future, experience working with us and more. Here are the highlights of their insights.

Tiffany Allen Zeuch, Sibcy Cline Realtors

Over the last decade, my partnership with the magazine has helped me become a familiar face in the community. The consistent exposure has built recognition and trust with homeowners, which has been invaluable in growing and sustaining my business.

Tiffany Allen Zeuch

Sibcy Cline Realtors

One of my favorite memories is being voted by the public as West Chester + Liberty Lifestyle’s Real Estate Agent of the Year five years in a row. It was such an honor to have the community’s trust and support recognized in that way, and it remains one of the most meaningful highlights of my time with the magazine.

I’ve seen tremendous growth in our community—from rising real estate values to the addition of new businesses, restaurants and shopping areas. It’s been exciting to watch Liberty and West Chester thrive and become even more desirable places to live.

This community is special to me because it’s truly home. I grew up in West Chester and have lived in Liberty Township for most of my adult life, so I’ve seen firsthand how it’s grown from farm fields and a small suburb into the thriving area it is today.

My hope for the future is that West Chester and Liberty continue to thrive as highly desired places to live and work. I look forward to helping even more residents and families buy their dream homes or sell their current ones as they take their next steps.

3 Unique Dining Experiences

Patsy Rabinowitz

West Chester Academy

We are honored to be part of the City Lifestyle Magazine community. Just as we moved into our new building 10 years ago, the magazine was beginning its journey, and in many ways, we’ve “grown up” together, both rooted in a deep love for this community.

A favorite memory was seeing our students, Robert Weatherington and Piper Vanderveer, featured in a cover article (page 29). I taught Robert piano from a young age, and he later excelled in dance. Today he performs on a Mediterranean cruise ship—a wonderful example of how the arts can shape versatile, accomplished young artists and launch fulfilling careers.

Judge Rob Lyons + Kara Lyons

Lyons & Lyons

Michelle and Tera come up with wonderful ways to genuinely and authentically spotlight our business.

The father-daughter business partner story was very special. It was the tenth anniversary of working alongside my father and during the photoshoot I was pregnant with my first child, and my dad’s first grandson. The pictures we received from that shoot are priceless!

I’m proud of becoming a mother while continuing to practice law and run a business. My son comes to work with me twice a week, and I love that I’ve been able to adapt my work style to accommodate both motherhood and business.

Damon Mundey

The Turf Tailor Grounds Maintenance

Our partnership started almost 20 years ago, not just 10! It began with cutting grass for a high school teacher (our publisher’s husband). That turned into a working relationship that helped us grow like we never imagined possible.

It is neat to see how this small business turned into a top leading maintenance provider in the area. We once were just push-mowing a few lawns, now we have trucks in almost every neighborhood in town.

We went from growing up in this community to now having strong relationships with a shared purpose to boost a successful community.

Dr. Jennifer Dehnbostel

Animal Hospital of West Chester

Over the last 10 years, our small animal hospital facility has changed in many ways. We moved into our new 7,500 square foot updated hospital facility on January 27, 2020. With continued growth, we have added two additional experienced veterinarians to provide two doctors every day. One of our doctors has a special certification in chiropractic medicine. Over the last decade we have remained privately owned and operated to continue to provide personalized care for your pet, no corporate protocols or policies to follow. Your pet will always be our priority.

Cari Hillman

Midpointe Library System

West Chester + Liberty Lifestyle have been some of our best cheerleaders. Their team is deeply connected to the community and have always been the first to promote new offerings from the Library, whether it be launching the Innovation Pointe makerspace or highlighting MidPointe’s championing of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio.

In June of 2025, MidPointe opened a brand-new facility in Liberty Township. It was the culmination of 15 years of hard work, and we couldn’t be more delighted to see how enthusiastically the community has embraced the space. West Chester + Liberty Lifestyle helped us keep patrons informed throughout the building process and were on hand to celebrate with us as it opened!

American Family Insurance

Being part of this community has shaped who I am as an agent. I’m not just serving customers, I’m serving neighbors, friends and families that I know personally. People want to support businesses that support their town. Businesses that give back and are involved in local events and schools. They feel good knowing their insurance dollars support the local community.

My advice to someone starting a business is to be a teacher, not a seller. Educate your clients, market locally, join local chambers and business groups. Sponsor local youth teams and school events. Follow-up personally with clients. Your success will often depend on how well you connect with people.

Michael Corna Alison Shiver-Himes + Chip Shiver

Shiver Security/ Pye Barker

My father and I were spotlighted for a family business article, and we got to share a photo shoot together which was very special. He has owned Shiver Security for the past 50 years. I am third generation, but we were recently acquired by Pye Barker Fire and Safety, which makes for a great fit because we can now provide all aspects of life safety to our community.

I am very proud of our community involvement, especially the six K9s we’ve donated to law enforcement agencies through the Matt Haverkamp Foundation. It’s a great feeling to know we are aiding law enforcement to help with crime.

Dr. Kris Titko

Center for Foot Care

Being part of this magazine was one of the smartest moves I made when I opened my practice in Liberty Township 10 years ago. I had a steady three times the return on investment since the beginning, finding the community I wanted to serve. There has been some amazing growth in this area, and the magazine’s reach grew with it—fortunate for me that I found this platform. I retired at the end of October, having fulfilled all of my professional goals. I want to thank this community for your trust in my care. It has been my honor and privilege to serve you.

SIX LOCAL 10-YEAR-OLDS SHARE THEIR WISDOM

So much can happen in 10 years. Just like this publication, the hoverboard and Liberty Center, these six kids all happened in the last decade. Nothing marks the passage of time like growing children. We’ve asked them to share their wisdom about being 10 years old— what they enjoy about being 10, their favorite memories, what historians should tell future kids about this era and what is to come in the next 10 years of their lives. They’ve got a lot on their minds. From soccer to scooters, here’s what it’s like to be in double digits in our town.

GRAYCIN MATTAS

SIENNA NOLTE

“My favorite thing about being a 10-year-old is traveling for soccer. Traveling for soccer is super fun—you can go shopping, hang out with friends and of course, play soccer!”

“My favorite memory from the first 10 years of my life is making pancakes with my dad.”

“Historians should tell future kids about how pollution is affecting the earth.”

“Ten years from now, I will be in college, playing soccer and writing a book.”

“My favorite thing is I can scooter to all my friends around the neighborhood.”

“My favorite memory is going to our cabin on Lake Michigan in the summers.”

“[Future kids should know] that September 5 is 67.67 percent of the year,” he says, referencing a popular TikTok trend.

“In 10 years, I’ll be playing soccer!

KEENAN MCAULIFFE

SCARLETT HAMILTON

“My favorite thing about being 10 years old is that I can do more things by myself, like order my own food at restaurants.”

“My favorite memory is taking lots of cooking classes with my cousin.”

“History books should tell future kids the good and bad things about AI.”

“Ten years from now, I will be in college. When I grow up I want to be a teacher.”

“My favorite memory is going to Mexico for a vacation. I loved going to the beach and having a buffet at the hotel.”

“[Historians] should say that kids my age liked to play video games like Fortnite and Roblox, play sports like football, basketball and soccer and ride their bikes and scooters around the neighborhood.

“Many things can happen in 10 years, but I think I will be in college.”

ALEX HALES

“School is actually kinda fun. I learn cool stuff and it keeps me busy. I also get more responsibility now, like I can do more things by myself.”

“My favorite [memory] is going on a cruise to the Cayman Islands and Mexico…The best part was you could get ice cream whenever you wanted.”

“In 10 years, I think I’ll be in college studying engineering. I want to get ready for my dream job, building cool stuff as an engineer.”

MAGGIE ZIMMERLY

“Now that I’m in my double digits, I'm finally allowed to drive my grandma's golf cart in her cul-de-sac.”

“Future kids should know that in 2025, if you want ice cream, you can't just teleport it. You have to get in your car and drive there. I hope they have teleporting.”

“Ten years from now, I'll be at CCM [University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music], I hope, with my friend, Daphne. I really want to be an actress in the movies one day. Tom Cruise will be done acting by then, so there will be room for me.”

Hamilton’s Turkey Trot

Beloved Annual Race Draws Crowds, Champions + Community Spirit

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY HAMILTON TURKEY TROT

Thanksgiving Day usually means parades, football and the smell of turkey in the oven. But in Hamilton, many families start the day lacing up for the annual Turkey Trot. This beloved 5K and 10K starts and ends in Marcum Park, blending fun with community spirit while raising support for two nonprofits.

What began 14 years ago in Race Director Katie Powers’ driveway with 30 runners has grown into an event that now draws more than 3,000 participants—including locals, visitors and runners joining virtually from as far away as India and Hong Kong.

“We started with a card table, a coffee pot and a few friends,” shares Powers. “Now, it’s become something the entire community looks forward to.”

The race offers something for everyone—serious competitors chasing a personal best, families with strollers and kids decked out in turkey hats. Costumes, music and laughter add to the fun, turning race day into a festival more than a competition.

Rosie Red hypes the Kids' Fun Run participants.
The Year 10 Race Planning Team: Mark Powers, Mark Moore, Angie Moore, Katie Powers, Kamie Dixon, Phil Wehner + Debbie Sweitzer.

This year, wheelchair athletes make the race more inclusive than ever. Hamilton’s mayor is a regular participant, and highlights include an 80-year-old runner alongside a three-time women’s champion returning to defend her title.

Behind the festive atmosphere lies a deeper purpose. From that first race that raised $100 for charity, the Turkey Trot has now poured over $300K back into the community—not including this year’s entry fees. Each dollar helps fuel two organizations close to the event’s heart: YoungLives, which provides mentoring and meals for adolescent parents, and Capernaum, which connects teens and young adults with disabilities to “buddies” who walk beside them in life.

“It’s not just about the miles we run,” adds Communications Coordinator Debbie Sweitzer. “It’s about creating space where young moms and teens with disabilities know they’re valued and supported.”

The Turkey Trot holds personal meaning for Sweitzer too. After facing breast cancer, she says helping to grow the race gave her a sense of purpose and connection.

“It was a way to pour my energy into something bigger than myself,” she reflects.

This year’s race takes place Thursday, November 27, with the Kids’ Fun Run at 8:20 a.m., the YoungLives honor run at 8:30 a.m., the 10K at 8:40 a.m. and the 5K at 9 a.m. An after-party will follow.

Registration is now open online. Early pricing is $35 for the 5K and $50 for the 10K, which includes a medal and shirt. Prices increase after November 5. Last minute registrations are welcome: runners can

— Race Director Katie Powers

sign up in person at the Expo on November 22, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. or on race day via QR code. Results and free photos are posted on the website.

Sweitzer shares the Turkey Trot’s simple but powerful tagline: “Run local, support local.”

“We’re hopeful participants will learn about our mission, get involved and shift the perspective on two demographics that can feel isolated—just help them find their people,” she explains.

Whether you’re running, walking or cheering from the sidelines, the Hamilton Turkey Trot is a chance to start Thanksgiving with gratitude and community. FAVORITE covers

As we celebrate 10 years of West Chester + Liberty Lifestyle, we reflect on the highlights from the 120 issues that brought us to today. Here’s a look back at some of our favorite covers and the stories behind them. We want to thank our brilliantly talented photographers for their contributions over the past decade—your work is truly amazing!

Michelle: I photographed the cover for our launch issue at Fort Liberty Playland in early September. Since it needed to feel like fall for the November edition, finding leaves was a struggle—but my sons helped gather every one they could find.

Our 5-year anniversary issue was particularly challenging because it was shot during the pandemic, and photography was not considered an “essential” job. Photographer Len Kaltman gave me photography lessons via video call so I could learn how to get the drama and effect I was seeking for this anniversary cocktail.

Tera: Len captured this beautiful action shot of ballerina Emma Krusling–a truly standout cover. I love when we get the opportunity to share the stories of our community’s teens that are chasing their dreams.

Michelle: Anjali Fong is a gifted photographer known for her striking black-and-white work. This image feels like something you’d expect to see on the cover if there were a Vogue for dogs.

Tera: Another favorite black-and-white cover is this stunning photo of Coach Camisha Noble at Starting Strength Cincinnati. This was our first shoot with

photographer Cara Jonas, a flex both behind and in front of the lens.

The cover photo of these two young dancers was taken in the rooftop garden at Liberty Center. All the world is a stage! Their skill and grace attracted a crowd during that golden hour photo shoot. Learn more about this duo in the story on page 15.

Michelle: This cover makes me smile every time I see it. The vibrant pink background, paired with the delicate and delicious macarons, creates a joyful image.

Tera: We like to eat, so food shoots are often our favorites. Photographer Amanda Lippert was precariously balanced atop a chair for most of this session. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasty samples shared by Stephen Sung, engineer turned ice cream entrepreneur.

I fell in love with the Turner family and their retired racing greyhounds, as pictured on this charming cover. All eight canine eyes were on Len Kaltman’s lens, thanks to a rattling container of treats.

Michelle: It took Cara almost 200 shots and 3 hours to get this image (puppies don’t take direction well), but it perfectly represents that month’s theme of Kids + Pets with a school focus.

Our fashion issue is always the most intricate to produce, but one of my favorite practices is featuring our readers as models, including Jenny Gutman shown here. The combination of this bold ensemble with the Liberty Center streetscape creates a striking visual.

Our talented and dedicated photographers are willing to go the extra mile to get the perfect shot, and we appreciate all they do for each issue of West Chester + Liberty Lifestyle.

Begins with YOU A SEASON TO SEE THE UNSEEN

The holidays have a way of calling us back to what matters most—faith, family, compassion, and the quiet but powerful act of giving. As lights go up and calendars fill, there are still many who sit in silence, carrying burdens too heavy to bear alone. But what if this season, you could be the spark that changes everything for someone else?

The founders of City Lifestyle, through their private foundation, are once again launching its annual Christmas Giving Campaign—a heartfelt effort to seek out and support individuals and families who have quietly fallen through the cracks. The mission is simple: to bring light, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.

Since its beginning just four years ago, this initiative has grown from a humble idea into a life-changing movement. Last Christmas alone, more than 200 families across the country received unexpected support—financial relief, but also something even more powerful.

“We don’t just send checks,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”

Together with City Lifestyle President Matthew Perry, Steven has helped shape this into a tradition that goes far beyond charity. “This is about community,” Matthew adds. “We believe we’ve been blessed, so now we get to be a blessing.”

Every story begins with a nomination. Often, it’s a neighbor, coworker, friend, or teacher—someone who’s been quietly carrying too much for too long. One past recipient, after receiving unexpected support during a time of deep personal struggle, wrote:

SCAN TO NOMINATE

“We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”

“Beyond the very practical solution of receiving funds to fix my car, this thing you guys worked together to do is bigger than that. I carry the Christmas card you sent in my purse. When things get really hard, I pull it out and remember what it felt like to be seen. That card represents hope— that change for the better is possible. I’m not sure how many people get to carry hope around in their purse. But I do.”

Another wrote in after her husband was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer and unable to work:

“This support has blessed our family not only financially, but emotionally and spiritually as we trust God to meet our needs throughout this difficult time. Thank you to our anonymous friend and to your foundation. What a joy and gift to be part of God’s family!”

Each year brings countless stories like these—real lives touched by simple acts of kindness. Some use the funds to pay overdue bills, others to afford groceries, medication, or repairs. But no matter the circumstance, the impact is the same: hope is restored.

This season, you have the opportunity to be part of that. The campaign is now open to nominations—completely confidential and prayerfully considered. Whether it’s someone battling illness, facing unemployment, or just in need of a helping hand, you can bring them a moment of grace that will ripple far beyond Christmas morning.

“Knowing my mom was chosen filled my heart with indescribable joy,” said another past recipient. “Your generosity doesn’t just brighten her life; it inspires hope and faith in all of us. It enables her to stay in her home and get back on her feet.”

Nominations are open from November 1st to December 5th, 2025. To submit someone you know, simply scan the QR code or visit @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the nomination form in the bio.

This holiday season, let’s give more than gifts. Let’s give each other the gift of being seen. Because sometimes, the smallest gesture becomes someone’s greatest miracle.

To nominate someone in need, visit: KingdomBuildingFoundation.org or scan the QR code.
