IT’S A COMMON PHRASE MEANING THAT OUR HOMES ARE A CENTRAL PLACE IN OUR LIVES—WHERE WE REST OUR HEADS, NOURISH OUR BODIES AND MAKE FOND MEMORIES WITH LOVED ONES. It’s the epicenter of our worlds, where we start and end each day, and where we keep our most prized possessions. Home is also our community and the state we live in. This month, we bring you our Home issue, which is full of ideas for creating the best environment wherever you call home—whether it’s a cozy apartment, a spacious condo or a modest twostory house. With springtime upon us, there’s no better time for a little DIY project! Refresh your interior with a few new home decor accents or tackle one room in your home for a more dramatic update. This is also a good time to evaluate the outside of your homes health and beauty needs. We were honored to meet with Governor Stitt at the state capital and learn about his plans for making our home, Oklahoma, a Top Ten State. We hope this issue inspires you to appreciate the place you call home—both your personal dwelling

A WEEKEND OF CULINARY WONDER AT THE TULSA BOTANIC GARDEN

WITH THE ARRIVAL OF SPRING AND THE OPPORTUNITIES TO GET OUTSIDE MORE, THE TULSA BOTANIC GARDEN IS A NATURAL RELIEF FROM OUR WINTER BLUES AND CABIN FEVER. Tulsa Botanic BLOOMS, a celebration of the arrival spring offers one of the largest bulb displays in the region. Over 100,000 tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other spring bulbs are a must-see from mid-March to mid-late April. Coming on the heels of this beautiful display is their second annual BOTANICAL! ‘A Weekend of Culinary Wonder’ April 26-28. Three distinct events over the course of as many days offer opportunities to explore the food, drink, history and culture of a specific region of the world through events ranging from an exclusive 6-course dinner to a guided tasting interwoven with talks from culinary experts. Most importantly, proceeds from the events benefit this non-profit organization. This year the event explores the rich and lusty flavors of Spain and Portugal. Jamie Bissonnette, James Beard award-winner known for his Toro restaurants in Boston, New York City, Dubai and Bangkok, is the featured chef for the BOTANICAL events He will be cooking alongside the students and faculty of OSU IT School of Culinary Arts, and Portuguese cookbook author Gabriella Opaz. Tulsa farm collective Agruity is assisting with local sourcing. Other Tulsa favorites involved include Glacier Confections, Thirst and Foolish Things Coffee. The Passport Dinner on Friday night offers a 6-course culinary journey of the Iberian Peninsula designed by Chef Jamie.

RENOVATE & REFINE

THIS IS THE YEAR OF GOING BIG, BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL. According to Luxe Interior Designer Michelle Harrison, 2019 is the year for trying new things in your home. Here are her top three interior design trends to try this year.

LUXE DESIGNER MICHELLE HARRISON SHARES HER FAVORITE DÉCOR SECRETS FOR THE YEAR

1. Statement Lighting “Lighting is now the jewelry of the room,” says Harrison. “You can totally reinvent a space by switching one light to a pretty pendant, stunning chandelier or spectacular sconce.” She suggests starting with statement lighting in an entryway, kitchen or even in the dining room.

Top Three 2019 Home Décor Trends

“My secret? Add the length and width of the room

and it will give you the size the fixture should be,” says Harrison. “If it is a 15X15 room, the light fixture should have around a 30 inch diameter.”

2. Home Office The home office used to be designed as a very formal, stuffy room. However, 2019 trends are taking a turn to make the office into a fun and cozy room. Harrison suggests working with standalone pieces in the home office such as a writing desk, funky rug, statement chairs or even comfy seating like a sofa. She also says this is an easy space to mix and match old and new pieces.

“A home office can often become dead space, but with a bit of design, it can become a life enhancing room!”

3. Bold patterns and colors Large scale patterns are going to be everywhere in 2019. It’s a trend that has already hit the fashion runway, and is now making its way into interior design. “Headboards, pillows, a pair of chairs, wallpaper… Make it your resolution to add a bold pattern somewhere in your home,” says Michelle. “To go more conservative, try a big print on the back of a curved chair.”

with trapper worms. Our lawn insect services are an option with both our lawn fertilization program and our lawn maintenance program. WILL YOUR WEED KILLER KILL THE GRASS? During the growing season we will only use selective herbicides as spot treatments for weeds present. The weeds that are present will determine which herbicides we will have to use, while killing the weeds and not the grass. It is possible you could see some yellowing from some spot

treatments but that is temporary and we add iron to our mix in order to combat those reactions. CAN YOU TREAT FOR APHIDS? As part of our Plant Health Program, we will apply dormant oil in late winter to any dormant plants to help reduce an insect infestation as well as treat them when plants begin to flower. HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN LET MY DOGS OUTSIDE AFTER THE TREATMENT? They will need to stay off until it dries, usually around 30 to 45 minutes. IF I WATER MY LAWN WILL IT AFFECT THE WEED TREATMENT? We add a surfactant to our selective herbicides if they do not already have one added in, that allows the herbicide to stick to the leaves of the weeds and will not allow water to wash it off. However, we do typically request the customer allow 30 minutes to an hour for the application to dry. WHEN SHOULD I AERATE MY LAWN AND DO I NEED TO? The best time to aerate Bermuda and Zoysia is in the spring when it starts to green up. This will help reduce soil compaction and allow oxygen and nutrients to reach the roots giving you a healthier lawn. The best time to aerate Fescue will be in the fall usually in September or October. We also encourage our Zoysia clients to verticut their lawns at least once per year in order to alleviate the buildup in the thatch layer just below the surface. This service will allow for better water and nutrient percolation into the plants rootzone.
