Building Hope: 5 Visionary Designs for St. Jude

AS COZY AS THEY ARE LUXURIOUS
Home. So much contained in that little four letter word. Home is our grounding. Our base. Our launchpad. It’s where we start and end each day. And while the particulars look different for each of us, the meaning and value it holds for all of us is undeniable.
Author Wendy Wunder said, “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.” As we thought about home - we wanted to highlight what makes it special to our readers. That of course includes the food and drinks, the aesthetic and design, but most importantly - the people.
Our March cover is a photo of a home designed by someone who knows how to design a space, Susan Semmelmann, the founder of Semmelmann Interiors. Susan does so much more than design interiors, she creates immersive environments that cater to whatever feeling or emotion one is looking to evoke in a space. Cozy, comforting and relaxed for bedrooms or welcoming entrances to implore you inside to see more.
Southlake is also home to a group of elite custom home builders that care about the entire community they are developing as much as the individual homes they build. The five custom home builders for Southlake's luxurious Carillon Parc residences, Atwood Custom Homes, Beckett Graham Luxury Homes, Heritage Custom Homes, Kensington Custom Homes, and WillowTree Custom Homes have pledged to raise $1 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through the project. Each builder represents an individual St. Jude patient of the local community that they focus on raising funds for.
If you are looking to get away from home for an evening, we have the perfect event! Southlake's chapter of the National Charity League is hosting their annual fashion show on March 2nd to benefit several local charities.
As you flip through the pages of this issue, we hope you’ll feel encouraged and connected to the people around you - in your city, neighborhood and most all of - your home.
Every month, we hear from readers who keep this magazine as coffee table art or an accessory in their home. We feel proud to create a resource that is valued in our community and strive every month to deliver the value you expect. Thanks for letting us be a part of your home.

Semmelmann Interior’s founder Susan Semmelmann and her team of radical creators bring luxury and comfort to homes
In the world of interior design, few stories resonate as profoundly as that of Susan Semmelmann. A journey marked by evolution, passion, and an unwavering commitment to philanthropy, Susan's career weaves together creativity, community engagement, and a relentless pursuit of innovation. Her mantra, “We say yes to charity. Never say no.” encapsulates her approach to both business and life. Guided by core values, she ensures that even amidst the complexities of budgets and designs, there is always room to support meaningful causes.
Susan’s trajectory into the realm of interior design is anything but conventional. Beginning her professional life as a school teacher and later a flight attendant, she entered homebuilding with her husband. It was during these times, juggling the responsibilities of three toddlers, that her innate design sensibilities began to flourish. Friends and neighbors sought her advice on paint colors, countertops, and flooring options. What started as small inquiries soon blossomed into a full-fledged business. By 2019, Susan launched her brand and quickly grew from a one-woman operation to a thriving team of over 30 employees within just five years.
An impressive list of accolades highlights her journey: her recognition as Entrepreneur of the Year in 2022 and Philanthropist of the Year from A Wish With Wings is a testament to her ability to blend business success with heartfelt giving. Semmelmann Interiors also won Best Companies to work for in 2024 along with 10 design awards as well. This ethos of giving back is foundational to her operations and a significant part of her narrative as she navigates the competitive design industry.
Under the banner of Susan Semmelmann Couture, the direction is clear: embrace the ethereal elements of nature in our designs. The name “radical creators” speaks to the team’s mission to push boundaries and undertake innovative projects. They often collaborate directly with mills to craft their own fabrics, rugs, and designs—bringing the essence of earth, wind, fire, and water into luxurious living spaces. This unique approach helps them create spaces that not only meet aesthetic standards but also resonate with the natural environment.
Whether it’s designing a custom feature wall or a stunning fireplace, Susan and her team aim to deliver experiences that have never been seen before. Their design process focuses on building deep relationships with clients, taking the time to listen and genuinely understand their needs. This commitment to client-centric service fosters connections that extend beyond mere transactions, resulting in designs that tell a story or evoke the emotions tied to personal experiences.
At the heart of Semmelmann’s operations lies a philosophy she calls “purposeful activity.” This means that every project undertaken is infused with a spirit that enriches lives—transforming spaces while creating joy. "Our work ethic is impeccable. We have fingers in the dirt," she says, emphasizing the commitment she and her team have to their craft. The immersive experiences they create go beyond aesthetics; they aim to inspire and evoke feelings of serenity and comfort. Referring to themselves as “mission driven messengers”, they are launching their voice through the ethereal designs of their exclusive high-end fabrics, furnishings, lights, rugs and more from the Susan Semmelmann Couture Collections to expand their mission driven message of giving back to the communities that they serve.
Among her prominent projects, the collaboration with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital stands out. Susan is contributing her skills to the Dream Homes project in Carillon Parc, Southlake, Texas—an initiative that will bring together five luxury builders to create five exquisite homes. Susan joins her professional “home” with esteemed homebuilder WillowTree Custom Homes, along with Atwood Custom Homes, Beckett Graham Luxury Homes, Heritage Custom Homes, and Kensington Custom Homes for the Carillon Parc residences. These homes will serve a dual purpose: showcasing innovative design while also raising funds for St. Jude’s lifesaving mission. The collective goal is to generate at least $1 million to support children battling diseases, demonstrating how design can intersect with philanthropy to effect real change.
The Carillon Parc development seeks to bring the charm of oldworld aesthetics into a modern landscape—a blend of architectural elegance combined with upscale living. WillowTree Custom Homes and Semmelmann Interiors’ partnership have joined forces with the other distinguished builders to ensure that every detail of each home reflects unparalleled craftmanship and luxury.
Susan's commitment to charity and community involvement is evident in every facet of her work. She meticulously dedicates her time and resources, ensuring that her design journey is not merely about aesthetics but also about making a difference. The upcoming Round Top Designer Show House in March 2025 is yet another example of this ethos. This event will showcase modern farmhouse designs and is expected to attract over 2,000 design enthusiasts, reinforcing her influence in the industry.
In addition, she is set to design the Fort Worth Magazine Dream Home, slated for May 2025, continuing her legacy of innovation and community support. Every hour dedicated to these causes is time-gifted, echoing her belief in the importance of giving back.
Susan Semmelmann's journey from a school teacher to a leading figure in interior design illustrates the power of passion, creativity, and community. Her dedication to charity and innovative design serves as an inspiration for future generations. By pushing the boundaries of what design can achieve, she embodies the spirit of a true “radical creator.”
As the luxury market continues to evolve, Susan Semmelmann’s work reminds us that at the heart of every beautiful home is an opportunity to tell a story—an opportunity to connect with our roots and a commitment to building a better world. By saying yes to creativity and charity, Susan Semmelmann is not just designing spaces; she is nurturing life, community, and an elevated sense of purpose.

SOUTHLAKE’S CARILLON PARC IS THE PEAK OF LUXURY WITH EVERY AMENITY IMAGINABLE.
Atwood Custom Homes founder Jon
Atwood is is known for high-quality, luxury homes throughout the DFW metroplex. Atwood’s goal is to build the house of your dreams.
An incredible, inaugural concept is coming to the new Carillon Parc development in beautiful Southlake, Texas – to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in its Lifesaving Mission: Finding cures. Saving children. Located in the heart of Southlake at the northeast corner of N. White Chapel Blvd. and E. State Highway 114, Carillon Parc is a welcoming, walkable 42-acre mixed-use development featuring a luxury boutique hotel, innovative office spaces, upscale residences, advanced health and wellness offerings, chef-driven dining and luxury shopping, anchored by an expansive park with water features and a beautifully landscaped central plaza.
Beckett Graham Luxury Homes is the culmination of over 50 years of experience between father and son builders, Paul and Kyle Moss.
Beckett Graham Luxury Homes
Custom Homes founder Jon Webb builds with passion to create homes with unique, functional architecture that reflect the heart, lifestyle, and design choices of its owners.
This alluring new development is inspired by old-world architecture, from oversized sidewalks with cobblestone details to iconic bell towers, infused with innovative hospitality, commercial and residential offerings. Verdant outdoor amenity spaces and the preservation of existing, mature trees serve as a natural green backdrop to six distinct districts: The Piazza, The Boulevard, The Terrace, The Grand Hotel & Wellness, and The Parc. Pedestrian-friendly paths and plazas connect each of these areas to provide residents and visitors with a cohesive, walkable and community-centered experience.
Now – for the first time ever – five luxury home builders are coming together in one exquisite Carillon Park neighborhood to create five dream homes, showcased side-by-side to raise funds benefitting the lifesaving work of St. Jude.
Atwood Custom Homes, Beckett Graham Luxury Homes, Heritage Homes, Kensington Custom Homes and Willow Tree Custom Homes are the proud builders of this incredible showplace community. Along with their trade partners, vendors,

suppliers and other campaign sponsors, they have committed to collectively raise at least $1 million for the children of St. Jude. John Terrell with Carillon Park is the developer of this unique project.
“This program is a pilot for St. Jude and the first of its kind in the nation,” says Jennifer Kimble-McCauley, area managing director, North and Central Texas, of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dream Homes are usually built by one builder and raffled off for this charitable cause. St. Jude staff members assist with marketing, build support and raffle the home to the highest bidder. Because Texas raffle laws are different from other states, the Carillon Parc showplace homes are focused on raising awareness and monetary donations through local supporters and trade partners.
“Five luxury builders and five spectacular homes, all next to each other in the same neighborhood, is such a unique idea, initiated by Brandon Tatta, Heritage Homes construction manager, who had participated in St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway events previously,” Jennifer says.
“Brandon had a conversation with Heritage Homes president John Webb, and John shared the idea with the other Carillon Parc builders. Together, they brought the concept to St. Jude.”
The St. Jude team saw this as an incredible, out-ofthe-box idea.
“We had always only showcased a singular home. This was a great opportunity for an innovative new program, so we worked in tandem with these five custom builders to plan the launch in Southlake,” she says.
Each builder brings a unique perspective to the table. They all take turns leading the charge, whatever the need may be.
“They work well together, and it’s so fantastic that they’re so highly invested in St. Jude and are supportive of each other,” Jennifer notes.
Each builder has formed a fundraising team with its own captain and colors. Builders can use their own network for donations to the project or for straight donations to St. Jude. Their contractors and the partners they regularly work with are enlisted to help provide products to build the homes. The St. Jude team also connects these builders with national partners Brizo, Shaw Industries, Trane, Bosch and Kichler, supporting St. Jude Dream Homes and Showplaces across the U.S.
A kickoff was held in September, with a groundbreaking planned in the coming months. When completed, these homes will be for sale.
“We hope, in Carillon Parc’s success,” Jennifer says, “that we’ll find other communities who will replicate this incredible idea.”
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, so they can focus on helping their child live, regardless of the duration or the cost of care.
Jody Alumbaugh and Travis Franks are high school buddies and Texas natives that started building homes with one goal in mind: Build with integrity and honesty. Fast forward to today and WillowTree has blossomed into a premier builder that takes their customer’s visions and makes them into a dream home.
Home to several Fortune 500 companies, The DallasFort Worth metroplex is no stranger to cutting-edge innovation. Now, Colorado-based brand All Points North is bringing something new to DFW to help locals find total, sustainable health in mind and body.

As consumers, we are constantly being enticed to buy. Whether it’s the jewelry we can’t live without, concert tickets to a show we don’t want to miss, or that favorite pair of shoes calling our name, we buy what we love, and art should be no different.
If you are new to acquiring original art, you may find it daunting, but it shouldn’t be. It is a special purchase that forces you to dig deep and discover a bit more about yourself. At first, many people shy away from buying original art because of the commitment. It’s a big decision after all, and how do you really know when it’s the “perfect” piece? Because art is subjective, part of the process is learning what style of art is the best fit for you. Is it colorful and energetic abstracts, or soothing landscapes that catch your eye? Maybe you are drawn to local photography, or even figurative works. There is no wrong answer, and maybe it’s a mix of several styles that creates your unique collection. The best way to find out your “art personality” is to get out and visit your local galleries. Consider making it a tradition to visit galleries while traveling or buy a piece of art as a gift on special occasions. In the gallery setting you can explore various art styles, mediums, and even learn more about the talented artists who create those works.
With the purchase of original art comes other considerations. Often, we have clients who need direction figuring out what size of art they need and its placement in the design of their space. If you find a piece of art you love, you will always find a spot for it. Ask the gallery if they offer in-home art consultation services to see the piece in your setting. Great custom framing is key, and well-designed framing is the jewelry to a great piece of art. Quality archival framing protects your art from UV rays that can damage a piece over time. Original art should last generations.
I’m often asked, should I buy art for investment? There is a place for investment art, but I don’t believe in buying art with the pretense that it will go up in value. There is no guarantee it will and to me, good investment art brings different riches to your life. Art that brings you joy, adds personality to your space, and makes your home original is an investment in you. The best art investment should be the feeling you experience gazing into an oil painting that perfectly captures a warm sunset over the prairie, or the texture created by a palette knife on the abstract that seems to pop off the canvas. That is what makes investing in original art priceless.
Art that brings you joy, adds personality to your space, and makes your home original is an investment in you.
The Stylish Home Design Trend That Will Have You Saying, “Oh, Grow Up!”
Humans have always had a penchant for propagation. Since King Nebuchadnezzar II built The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (one of the original Seven Wonders of the World) in the sixth century BC, artful gardening has fascinated folks. Today, there is a growing trend (pun intended) in home design that echoes that need to nurture, albeit on a much smaller scale. It goes by many names. Environmentalists refer to them as “green walls” or “ecowalls.” Gardeners may prefer “garden wall” or “edible wall.” Designers have dubbed them “statement walls.” But for our purposes here, we will refer to them as the architects do — as “vertical gardens.”
A vertical garden is essentially a wall, or part of a wall, that is covered with plants growing in soil or another type of medium. Though they began as outdoor architectural attractions, these wonderful wallscapes are popping up indoors, and their benefits go beyond a fancy facade.
The most obvious benefit of a vertical garden is the visual beauty it brings to the room. Its unexpected presence adds surprise and drama, while its living tenants, with their varied textures and individual personalities, add energy and a bit of charm as well.
Beyond the aesthetic advantages, living walls have health benefits. They improve the air quality by adding humidity, trapping dust particles, and absorbing many harmful gasses, replacing them with oxygen. They can help with cardiovascular issues like blood pressure as well as breathing problems associated with allergies and asthma. Because they lend a sense of calm and well being, they can even improve concentration, elevate mood, and reduce stress.
Because these living walls are becoming more popular, demand is driving the price down, making them more affordable for the average homeowner. Kits are available and most feature an integrated water delivery system which makes them low maintenance as well.
As for which types of plants to grow, succulents, mosses, grasses, and ferns are all good choices. Tropical vines work well also, as they can trail down or climb up. Pothos and philodendrons have great climbing capabilities, are fast growing, and low maintenance. The design possibilities are as endless as the plant combinations. So bring the outside in! Simply choose a location with bright, indirect light, and turn your wall into a living piece of artwork with a vertical garden.

Everyone dreams of an organized and beautiful closet space, but it often comes last on the list of places that get our time and attention. Follow our nine tips for transforming and elevating your closet. How you organize your closet will of course differ based on the size of your space, the size of your wardrobe, and the kind of life you lead. But applying these guidelines will result in a much more organized and aesthetically pleasing space.
It may seem silly, but when dealing with a small space, little things count. Hanging all clothes the same direction is a no-brainer for continuity in your closet.
Reserve the front and middle of the closet for clothes worn most often. For someone who gets dressed for work each morning at 6 a.m., work clothes should be at the front of the closet. Store lesser-worn items like formal wear and out-of-season clothes toward the back and on the upper shelves. A large mirror and counter with chair provides the perfect spot to select jewelry and finalize finishing outfit touches. While every closet is different, the key here is everything has a home.
Hidden storage is a game changer in keeping a closet visually clean. Tuck folded clothes behind closed cabinet doors if the space is multipurpose. The floor-toceiling built-ins in Keri’s closet contain folded clothes, athleisure and other items she needs as she gets ready each day. Tuck away the least-used items: Use hidden storage and the very top of the closet for out-of-season items and stuff only worn a few times a year.
Using space efficiently is important, but keep in mind every good design includes some negative space. For instance, consider adding built-ins on the long wall of your closet but keep the short wall open with a mirror.
Group clothes by kind first and color second. This ensures quick location of that favorite shirt when it’s needed. Bonus - it’s easy on the eye. Group like with like: Gather belts, sweaters, long-sleeve shirts, work pants, dresses, button-down shirts, jeans, shorts, etc., and decide the best place to store each item as a group (e.g., hang pants in the closet, fold and stack sweaters in a bureau). Working with groupings will help you figure out how much space you need and the best way to store each type of item.
The simplest and fastest way to make a BIG difference in your closet organization is to get matching hangers that go beyond the traditional plastic or wire hangers. And for sure ditch any with paper from the dry cleaner!
Alternate the way shoes are facing. This ultimately helps fit more on each row and provide a visually appealing way to display those prized possessions.
Everyone understands the frustration of searching for that one clutch when rushing out for the evening. Bags benefit from a space all their own. Get clear container storage for small bags and purses so you can locate and access them easily.
Why use an armchair when you have room for a sofa? Slide up a stool and colorful area rug to complete the look. If you have excessive wall space, consider a mini gallery wall or a statement wall with wallpaper to polish things off.

The ubiquitous houseplant has long been a cautious curiosity for many. Comments such as “I don’t have a green thumb,” or “I can’t keep anything alive,” have echoed through the rooms and hallways of almost every home in America. Well, it’s time to dispel all the mistruths about whether houseplants are beneficial and to lay the foundation for a little oasis of green happiness in the corner of every home!
By the way, you don’t really need a green thumb as there are plenty of hard-to-kill houseplants that can survive any level of neglect! And remember not only do houseplants look pretty, they also decrease stress and anxiety, increase happiness, and bring a sense of joy and relaxation to every room.
Houseplants make us feel better about ourselves in many ways because they allow us to care for them and we reap the rewards of that love. No one is alone when you have a houseplant, as they are our forever listeners. Yes, some people actually do talk with their houseplants all day long! There are many science-based benefits to having houseplants in the home and office environment. Aside from reducing indoor air pollutants and increasing humidity in the home, house
plants have been shown to reduce mental fatigue, accelerate the healing process, as well as improve productivity and focus.
Pothos, spider plants, lady palms, yucca, and succulents are so pretty and easy to grow. It is no wonder that we have seen a revival of indoor gardening trends. Instagram is teeming with photos of incredible indoor “living green” vignettes that show us all how clever we can be when decorating with house plants! All you really need is to a pick a place in the home that has the best light and pick your plants.
ARTICLE BY SEAN O’KEEFE
Think outside of the box when it comes to decorating with houseplants. Look for underused spaces. Use mixed and matched pots of different sizes and shapes. Turn a shelf into a plant display. Go vertical with some hanging plants or an antique ladder. You can even group some of your favorite plants together into a single large decorative pot.
Signature large plant displays anchor the most well-designed rooms in America and it’s all there for us to look at, learn from, and bring into our own home. Whether combined into a single large decorative pot or clustered together in a corner, always remember the key to any house plant décor is to have a thriller, a tall plant usually with a strong color and form; filler plants that literally will fill the pot covering all the soil; and a spiller plant that trails over the edge of the pot. Try any combination of your favorite plants or a tried and true combination of a fiddle-leaf fig, a prayer plant, and a string of pearls. No matter how you look at it, houseplants improve our lives in many ways. Indoor gardens provide us an alternative way to commune with nature and to reconnect with the living world. We all benefit from the additional life that houseplants bring into our homes. In this crazy world of ours, wouldn’t be it nice to return home to your own personal indoor greenspace.
Happy gardening!
