As we step into a new year, there’s no better time to embrace health and wellness. Açaí bowls are not only visually stunning but also packed with nutrients to kickstart your day or refuel after a workout. Bursting with antioxidants, fiber, and healthy fats, this vibrant treat brings together wholesome ingredients to support your goals for a balanced lifestyle. Check out this Berry Bliss Açaí Bowl.

Ingredients: For the Açaí Base: • 2 packets of frozen açaí puree (unsweetened) • 1 ripe banana • 1/2 cup almond milk (or any milk of choice) • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional) Toppings: • Fresh fruits (e.g., sliced bananas, strawberries, blueberries) • Granola • Chia seeds • Coconut flakes • Nut butter (e.g., almond butter or peanut butter) • A drizzle of honey or agave syrup

“Many of my clients were intimidated or dissatisfied by the typical gym experience. Some were unsure how to use the equipment, some were worried about injury, and others didn’t feel comfortable in crowded gym environments,” Baird says. “That’s when I realized I could offer something different—a gym focused on personalized, supportive engagement.”

FROM CORPORATE SUCCESS TO FITNESS PASSION

Baird’s career began in the corporate world, where she worked for healthcare companies like Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer. Armed with a biology degree and an MBA, Baird made a life-changing decision to pursue her passion for fitness and have a more direct impact on people’s health and well-being.

“The tipping point came after COVID,” Baird explains. “I reassessed my life and realized that working in the community, one-on-one with people, was where I felt most fulfilled. The personal connection and the ability to make a real impact on someone’s health drew me to fitness.”

THE BEGINNING OF INFINITIVE FITNESS CLUB

What began as a small operation in Baird’s garage with a personal training studio known as CoreForm360 quickly blossomed into Infinitive Fitness Club. Initially, her clients were adolescent athletes seeking specialized coaching outside of traditional gyms. But Baird soon discovered another group that was largely underserved—women and men in their late 30s to early 60s who felt uncomfortable in conventional gyms.

Baird is passionate about supporting clients through the unique physical and hormonal changes that come with these life stages.

“Perimenopause, in particular, is often either overlooked or addressed with a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach by fitness and health professionals. It’s a time when many women experience life-impacting changes,” Baird says. “Through implementing appropriate exercise and nutrition, and shifting other critical daily habits, these changes can be managed. Our programs are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual woman during this phase. Because we’ve had such success with this program, we are launching an equivalent program for aging men in January 2025.”

Despite this specialized focus, Infinitive Fitness welcomes anyone feeling overwhelmed by the typical gym experience, offering a more personalized, supportive environment.

Get Your Freak On HOW ONE LOCAL COUPLE TURNED A PASSION FOR MOVEMENT INTO A THRIVING BUSINESS

“I didn’t have a bike. I didn’t know how to swim. I ran, but just 5Ks,” Mo Wadhwani says. “But when I saw those Ironman athletes, I thought, I need this in my life.”

In 2013, while house-hunting in Austin, Texas, Noor and Mo Wadhwani experienced a serendipitous moment that would shape their future.

Their visit coincided with the Half Ironman, and as they sat in the airport, the young couple watched waves of incredibly fit athletes sporting matching backpacks walk by.

“I grew up playing sports and was very active and health-conscious, but what I thought was ‘fit’ paled in comparison to what I saw in these people,” Wadhwani says. “I realized I had to be part of this.”

Inspired, Wadhwani pulled out his phone, researched the Ironman, and registered for his first event on the spot. “You swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and then run a full marathon—26.2 miles,” he explains.

For most, such a challenge would be daunting, but for Wadhwani, it was transformative. Yet he was starting from scratch. “I didn’t own a bike.

I didn’t know how to swim. My running experience was limited to 5Ks,” he recalls.

Determined, he turned to YouTube to teach himself to swim, even though it meant open-water training. “He bought an entry-level bike to start with,” Noor says.

As the family settled into their new home in Austin, Wadhwani’s training became a way of life. Noor and their two children embraced triathlon culture alongside him. “My friends, family, and in-laws all said, ‘You’re a freak. What is wrong with you? Why are you doing this to yourself?’”

Wadhwani says.

THE LIFE-CHANGING MOMENT

One thing about Wadhwani: Once a decision is made, he is committed. He proposed to Noor three days after meeting her. They married a month later. This year, they celebrate 16 years of marriage and the successes of their children: son Rehaan, 15, a student at Ridge High School, and daughter Suhaana, 12, a student at William Annin Middle School.

Life was unpredictable for the family, but that unpredictability was what bonded them. A corporate executive, Wadhwani relocated approximately every year. “In our first 11 years, we moved ten times all over the country: We moved several times to New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as to Austin, Dallas, and Charlotte,” Wadhwani says. “We fell in love with the diversity we experienced. Because as we kept moving, the only constant we had was each other, which made us very tight-knit.”

Noor, an entrepreneur with a background in fashion and design, created a digital interior decorating business that could sustain their constant moves.

"Get your freak on."

Life moved forward predictably until one hot summer Saturday morning in 2015, when Mo had a revelation. It was 4 a.m. on a brick day—a day when athletes training for the Ironman perform two or three disciplines in one day. Wadhwani was fueling up for an eight-hour day that included an 80-mile bike ride followed by a 10-mile run. Then, the thought came: Am I doing something wrong? Why is everyone calling me a freak?

“Sitting there in the dark, I realized that I was healthier, more organized, and disciplined than I’d ever been. And because of that, I was more effective as a father, husband, and professional. Our kids were 5 and 3 and running 5Ks,” he says.

“I thought, If this is what it means to be a freak, then heck, yeah.”

Energized by this epiphany, he woke Noor and told her they were going to create a brand called Athletifreak to celebrate the positivity of movement. “We wanted

to take this concept of ‘freak’ being negative and say, ‘If you’re freakishly passionate about something, that is your greatest superpower,’” Wadhwani says.

Noor popped up in bed and said, “Let’s do this.”

The couple began conceptualizing the business and making plans, but after eight months, they decided to pause. “We had two kids under five, loans, and I had a well-paying corporate job,” Wadhwani says. “We thought we couldn’t pursue a dream at the risk of that security.”

Meanwhile, the family’s relocations continued: Dallas, Basking Ridge, Charlotte, and back to Basking Ridge. “Basking Ridge was always home because, despite all of these moves, our home companies were always from New Jersey,” Mo says.

Through it all, the couple would frequently ask each other, “Remember Athletifreak?”

In 2019, they decided to take the leap.

“We preached to our children to follow their heart and believe in themselves, but here we were, not living our philosophy.

We realized we were getting older and decided it was now or never,” he says.

The couple set to work, structuring the business, creating designs, setting up the supply chain, building a network, and marketing. They unveiled the brand at a 5K in Basking Ridge on January 1, 2021.

“For seven years, our family ran a 5K every January 1,” Wadhwani says. “It was a commitment date, committing to whatever goals we were setting.”

The brand started with one hoodie and one T-shirt. “The vision was to not be sport specific, but rather focus on the attributes of an athlete. Athletifreak is everyone who is passionate about movement,” Wadhwani says. They launched a website, managed pop-up stores, and began working with gyms and companies like Lifetime, which promoted the line at locations nationwide. Within two years, the one hoodie and one T-shirt had grown to 75 products.

They opened their first store at the Bridgewater Commons in November 2022, around their two-year anniversary. Six more stores followed in Short Hills, Garden State Plaza, Bridgewater, Menlo Park, Willowbrook, and Basking Ridge. “Since we develop our own fabrics, we are obsessed with quality,” Noor says. “You want to touch the fabric and understand the features.”

“Everyone out there has this energy within them that is their superpower. We call it your inner freak. It doesn’t matter if you’re 90, 60, or 10. Or if you’re a powerlifter, an

endurance athlete, a yogi, or a dancer. What matters is not what you do. What matters is the passion with which you do it,” Wadhwani says.

The couple, born in India, plans to introduce Athletifreak to the Indian market next year while continuing to expand across the U.S., aiming to double their domestic retail footprint.

They are excited to continue the progress of their company from their home base in Basking Ridge, where they spend evenings at Mountain Park watching their children at sports practice or walking to Dunham Park. “That’s one of our sweet spots. It’s a beautiful part of town,” says Wadhwani, who notes readers have likely seen him “running all around Basking Ridge.”

“Balance” is the word Coach Karli Saur repeatedly uses when discussing wellness, family life, and community support. As a mom of young children, Saur navigates the constant challenges of motherhood, fitness, and health. For her, finding balance is more than just a goal; it’s a lifestyle she lives every day.

As we head into the New Year, the balancing act between health, family, and personal wellness is top of mind for many. For Saur—fitness trainer, running coach, and pre- and postnatal expert—this balance is a philosophy she teaches others, but also one she embraces herself.

In a conversation blending insights from her roles as a mom, fitness enthusiast, and local advocate, Saur offers practical advice for those trying to prioritize wellness while juggling the demands of family life.

A FAMILY-ORIENTED APPROACH TO WELLNESS

Saur’s view of fitness is rooted in family. "It’s never just one person," she explains when discussing how she and her husband manage their physical fitness. She points to a recent family achievement: signing up for a 5K race. This was not just a personal milestone but a family event.

"I needed a personal win, and I thought it would be a nice boost for my husband too. Plus, our kids—my three-year-old, 18-month-old, and soon to be newborn in early 2025—are already emulating our behaviors."

She says proudly, "My little ones walk in the living room and try to do push-ups or wall sits."

For Saur, it’s not about pushing her family to extremes; it’s about instilling the value of being active together. Whether it’s running a race, hiking local trails, or simply going for a walk, these moments create meaningful memories and lay the foundation for healthy habits.

"The kids had a blast at the 5K. They loved cheering for me as I pushed the double stroller through the whole race," she laughs. "They were talking about how strong Mommy was the whole ride home. That’s what I mean when I say we have to lead by example. It’s not about perfection; it’s about showing up and doing it together."

FLEXIBILITY IN FITNESS: MAKING ROOM FOR FAMILY

What sets Saur’s approach apart is her focus on making fitness a shared experience. She knows the challenge of trying to fit a workout into a busy schedule while balancing family life. “I would love to come. Can my kids come too?” she laughs. “That’s how I feel about it. The idea of scheduling a babysitter and all the stress of finding care is just too much. It’s so much easier for me to bring my kids along. They’re not a distraction; they’re part of the experience.”

Many gyms, she notes, now allow families to work out together in designated areas. Even if it’s not a formal class, it’s an opportunity to involve the kids in the process. “Sometimes it’s just about getting creative with your routine,” she says. “I’ll go into a group fitness studio, where there are weights and bands available, and we’ll play our own music. It’s a stress-free way to include the kids and still get my workout in.”

THE ROLE OF COMMUNITY IN SUPPORTING WELLNESS

Saur has also seen the importance of community in supporting wellness, especially for mothers. Reflecting on her experience in New Jersey’s Somerset Hills, she notes that community is everything. "As a mom, it’s crucial to connect with others who are going through similar struggles, whether it’s adjusting to a newborn, navigating toddlerhood, or finding time for self-care."

During the pandemic, Saur realized how much moms could benefit from a community designed specifically for them. “Before I had kids, I ran a couple of different running clubs in the city, and I thought it would be amazing to create something like that here—a stroller-run club or something that combines fitness and family,” she says.

Despite challenges, Saur remains passionate about the idea of creating more accessible fitness opportunities for moms. “It’s hard to find a group that feels welcoming to women who are pregnant or newly postpartum, or who may not feel ‘fit enough’ to join a regular gym class or run club,” she notes.

Her most recent attempt was collaborating with a local studio to offer a fitness class where mothers could bring their toddlers.

While the timing and weather didn’t cooperate, Saur’s vision remains: "I envision a consistent, community-led class where moms can bring their kids and work out together— without the pressure of needing a babysitter or competing with others."

THE IMPORTANCE OF DIET AND NUTRITION FOR WELLNESS

No discussion of wellness is complete without addressing nutrition, and Saur’s approach is one of simplicity and balance. “Wellness isn’t just about exercise. It’s about what we put in our bodies, what we feed our kids, and how we teach them to eat,” she says.

Saur advocates for cooking at home as much as possible. “It doesn’t matter if it’s a

salad, a steak dinner, or muffins—just make it from scratch.” Involving children in the process is key. “We let the kids help in the kitchen. They ask to do it, and it’s so important for them to understand where their food comes from. It’s not just food magically appearing out of nowhere.”

Her philosophy on food is all about balance. “It’s about moderation. Don’t stress over calories or indulge in guilt over that extra dessert at a party,” she advises. “I follow the 80/20 rule: eat healthy 80% of the time, and enjoy life the other 20%. If you had a little too much at a holiday meal or a couple of extra drinks, let it go. It’s part of living.”

A WELLNESS JOURNEY FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Saur’s approach to wellness is rooted in practicality, balance, and inclusivity. It’s not about fitting into a specific mold of fitness but about creating a lifestyle that works for the entire family. Whether through fitness, community support, or healthy eating habits, Saur continues to advocate for wellness that encourages connection, flexibility, and— most importantly—balance.
