At One Common in the heart of downtown Snohomish, we believe that true warmth starts at home. It begins with the things you surround yourself with. Whether it’s setting a beautiful table for a family meal or slipping into an outfit from our curated collections, we have everything you need to make every moment feel special.
Bounty of the season
As glorious as our summer typically is, I really enjoy the Fall, and I hope you do as well. Whether it is the crispness of the early morning with the sunlight in the background and the vapor lifting off the landscape or the change in the colors, I love October and all that it includes.
This time of year brings us back indoors in preparation for hosting family and friends in the coming months. That means hospitality, which includes comfort food and perfectly paired beverages to elevate the moments shared with those we love.
In the pages that follow, we are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of our own Quilceda Creek Winery. They have enjoyed an especially bountiful season of highly celebrated releases, which we hope you will seek out, enjoy, and possibly add yourself to their waiting list of members. We had the opportunity to visit the winery, talk with both the winemaker and general manager, and sample a taste of what you can look forward to. It was wonderful, and their hospitality is beyond words.
Additionally, we discovered some secrets in Snohomish, several speakeasies, all of which are worthy of your exploration. Ask someone about the local history, and you’ll inevitably learn that a well-known local landmark is believed to have once served illicit alcohol during prohibition. This may be one of the best conversation starters around!
Finally, welcome to Fall! We hope you get out and embrace the coolness in the air and the bounty of the season. Visit the local farms, buy a pumpkin or five, and invite family to join you. We’ll see you there. Cheers!

QUILCEDA Creek Winery
Quilceda Creek is more than a treasured winery based in Snohomish. It’s a legacy of integrity, exceptional quality, and quiet generosity, shaped with intention from beginning to end that has been recognized globally as one of the finest producers of wine. The winery team’s commitment to excellence in every step of their operation keeps collectors and private members pining for their next seasonal release.
Established in 1978 as the twelfth bonded winery post-prohibition, Quilceda Creek is one of Washington’s oldest family-owned wineries. Founded by the Golitzin family, the winery is known for producing exclusive, meticulously crafted Cabernets that consistently earn international recognition and coveted 99 and 100point scores from the likes of Robert Parker, Jeb Dunnuck, James Suckling, and Owen Bargreen. To date, the winery has earned an astounding 34 perfect 100-point scores.
The estate is set on an eleven-acre sanctuary that includes a world class production facility designed with precision and purpose top of mind. Here, the expert team produces approximately twelve-thousand cases of wine annually, a limited production that illustrates their dedication to quality over quantity.
To maintain the highest standards of excellence, Quilceda Creek keeps every aspect of production in-house. From vineyard to bottle, the grapes, transport, storage, and bottling are all controlled by Quilceda Creek to preserve quality and consistency. “We only use the fruit that we farm and are unwilling to compromise quality at any stage of the process,” says second-generation President Paul Golitzin. “The 100-point scores are an honor, but for us, they’re also the result of doing things the right way, year after year.”

Where Excellence Meets Heart
ARTICLE BY AMBER DAWN SCHULTHEIS
Nearby, the members-only tasting room is both warm and elegant. The vaulted ceilings and intentional interiors throughout the space create a feeling of elevated hospitality and mindful exclusivity. Every detail has been considered, leaving guests feeling seen and cared for from the moment they arrive.
The Quilceda Creek membership model is uncommon and unexpected. There isn’t a front-of-house bottle shop for purchasing the latest release, and you cannot buy their wines at the supermarket or your local larder. In fact, finding a Quilceda Cabernet on the bottle list at a restaurant is rare, becoming something of a sport for local enthusiasts. There are also no public tastings - this is a private experience intended for those who seek out the extraordinary.
While there has been growing buzz and interest in the integrity with which Quilceda Creek operates and the impeccable wines they produce, what is less commonly known is their culture of quiet generosity. Quilceda Creek is a winery not only of distinction, but of deep compassion and connectedness to the local food and wine industry, cultivating global efforts to do good and give back.
In 2020, Quilceda Creek committed a $365,000 donation to support local restaurant workers through the lowest points of the pandemic. This generous contribution allowed local chefs and restaurateurs to keep their businesses running when they may have otherwise needed to fold.
In 2022, the winery donated 100 percent of gross sales from their first and only production of white wines—Quilceda Blanc and Quilceda Sauvignon Blanc—to the Jose Andres World Central Kitchen where Jose and his team worked tirelessly to serve hot meals to displaced Ukrainians as a result of the conflict with Russia. These donations reached an incredible $300,000 in support of the World Central Kitchen’s ongoing efforts. They also donate to numerous state charities and support non-profits, reflecting their values and ongoing commitment to not only the food and wine industry, but humanity at large.
Whether in the cellar, the tasting room, or the board room, Quilceda Creek team members are held to a higher standard of excellence and their imprint on the local and global community benefits everyone greatly. Quilceda Creek illustrates that excellence doesn’t need to be loud, and intentional philanthropy doesn’t require a spotlight.
Those interested in becoming a private member are invited to join the waiting list and look forward to quarterly vintage releases, experiencing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignons exclusively available to Quilceda Creek members.

TRAILS END CATERING
FRESH FOOD PREPARED RIGHT, EVERY TIME.
Trails End Taphouse & Restaurant is known throughout the region as the go-to stop for family-friendly, quality dining and top-shelf customer service. Local patrons know to expect professional staff and consistently fresh food, prepared right, every time.

That same care and attention extend beyond the restaurant. The team at Trails End brings the same level of hospitality to their catering, serving special events in Snohomish and beyond for over a decade. Each year, they cater up to seventy weddings, along with anniversaries, birthdays, and other private events.
The catering team is led by Jessica Brandt and Fallon Hanson, who can be found on-site for private events—coordinating details, ensuring everything is in its right place at the right time, and meeting the exact specifications of their clients.
They focus on taking care of guests and making sure everyone knows where they need to be and when. Every event follows a detailed guide and proven approach. “The team takes the same pride in executing events as they do in having folks come into the restaurant,” says owner Chris Shirley. “We make sure nothing is lost in translation from initial planning to executing the day of the event.”
This commitment is especially vital for weddings. “There’s nothing more important than being able to trust the people who are in charge of your wedding. Whoever’s
“A CATERING VENDOR OFTEN BECOMES THE DE-FACTO COORDINATOR OF A SPECIAL EVENT.”
in charge of your food really determines how the event will go. Our team really honors that role and the communication and time management required to make things run smoothly. It takes that level of commitment and care for an event to be successful.” Shirley and his team understand that a catering vendor often becomes the de facto coordinator of a wedding or special event—and they embrace the opportunity to serve their clients and guests in this way.
While many catering companies have a narrow scope of how they operate, Trails End offers a wide range of thoughtful options. Clients can pick up catering
items in disposable chafing dishes, free of delivery fees, or opt for delivery. The team delivers to hotels, convention centers, community events—you name it.
The catering menu is also more extensive than the restaurant’s, offering everything from a pasta or taco bar to plated dinners of filet mignon. Service styles include family style, buffet, or formal plated meals. Among guest and client favorites, the hand-carved prime rib and raspberry-chipotle pork loin are at the top of the list—and for good reason.
Back on-site at Trails End Taphouse & Restaurant, a generous banquet room seats up to fifty guests, making it an ideal
gathering space for community events and private parties. The team prides themselves on being a “one-stop shop” for special events, complete with this spacious yet intimate venue. Many wedding clients choose to host their rehearsal dinner here, working with the same exceptional team for a seamless experience from initial planning through the wedding reception.
For events in the Trails End Banquet Room, select house desserts are available, including New York–style cheesecake and peanut butter pie—two highly requested treats from restaurant regulars. Shirley and his team are currently developing their pastry program and look forward to offering additional dessert options for weddings and events in the future.
The focus on the customer experience and providing best-in-class hospitality for every event sets the Trails End team apart. Their reputation has earned them a place on the preferred vendor lists of countless wedding and event venues throughout Snohomish County.

SPEAKEASY SECRETS
Discover Snohomish's Hidden Bar Scene
ARTICLE BY COURTNEY EVANS PHOTOGRAPHY BY SNOHOMISH CITYLIFESTYLE STAFF
Snohomish might be known for its charming streets and historic vibes, but tucked just beneath the surface lies a secret world of speakeasies waiting to be discovered. From intimate hideouts dripping with vintage allure to neighborhood spots where the taps never stop flowing, these hidden gems offer more than just drinks—they offer escapes. Whether you’re craving a quiet escape with a killer cocktail, a dive bar with live jams (and maybe a ghost or two), or a laid-back spot to kick back with friends and pups, these hidden gems are your new go-to. Snohomish’s speakeasy scene invites you to pull back the curtain and step into a story you’ll want to savor.
HAYWIRE BREWERY
Haywire Brewery is a laid-back neighborhood hideout where the beer flows, the laughter is loud, and conversations pick up like you never missed a beat with an old friend. At first glance, the vintage lockers near the entrance seem purely decorative — but look closer and you’ll spot the subtle outline of a hidden door. Step inside this tucked-away speakeasy and you’ll find a cozy, intimate space with just the right touch of rebellious spirit. It’s the perfect spot for a casual date night, catching up with friends, or warming up with your four-legged sidekick.
As for the drinks? They’re award winners for a reason.
Pig Sty Rye IPA , an original favorite, delivers a malty twist on a classic that feels like coming home.
Rockabilly is a dark porter with rich notes of chocolate and roasted coffee — bold but not heavy, perfect even for those who don’t usually go dark.
Vanilla Bean Locust Cider tastes like a grown-up cream soda with a playful kick — sweet nostalgia in a pint glass.
Haywire strikes the perfect balance between the hush-hush allure of a speakeasy and the come-as-youare comfort of a neighborhood gathering spot.
Step inside the Oxford Saloon and you’ll feel the weight of history in the air—thick with music, laughter, and perhaps… something else. Downstairs hums with the grit and charm of a small-town dive, the kind where regulars stake their claim at the bar and a live band has you moving to the beat. But venture upstairs, and you’re in another world entirely. Tucked away up there, past the whispers and the shadows, you’ll find a speakeasy that’s pure vintage intrigue.
The drinks here are as layered as the building’s history.
The Unnamed Lemon Drink tastes like summer in a glass. It is light, refreshing, and kissed with mint, tasting like lemon cheesecake meets a float.
The Lemon Drop takes that citrus dream and refines it, smooth and crisp without the bite, perfect for those who like their cocktails easy and elegant.
The Espresso Martini is dark, rich, and silky with just the right kick. It’s dessert with an edge, sophisticated enough to sip slowly, dangerous enough to order twice.
Whether you come for the ghosts, the music, or the drinks, the Oxford’s upstairs speakeasy is a time capsule you won’t want to leave. Some places live in history—this one pours it in your glass.
Find the Oxford at: 913 1st St., Snohomish Social Media: @oxfordsaloonandeatery
IMPRESARIO
Tucked away behind an unmarked door, sits Snohomish’s only true speakeasy. This isn’t the place for loud crowds or party-goers. It’s for those who want to disappear for a while, to sink into a leather chair with a perfectly balanced drink in hand, and let the noise of the outside world fade to black. The low light, the moody decor, the history in every corner, and the quiet hum of conversation create a space that feels suspended in time. Every detail tells a story, and if you’re lucky enough to catch a few minutes with owner and expert bartender Bexy, between pours, you’ll leave with more than just a cocktail—you’ll leave with a piece of that story.
The drinks here aren’t just drinks; they’re experiences.
Don’t Speak is a light, fruity whisper. Refreshing and subtly sweet, like a warm summer night by the fire pit.
Airmail delivers a sunny citrus lift, the kind of balanced, sparkling brightness that would be at home, at brunch or on a breezy beach morning.
But for me, Late for School was the showstopper! Layers of flavor unfold sip by sip, from smoky chili bitters to delicate citrus notes, each one pulling you deeper into its complexity. Strong yet balanced, it lingers like the last note of your favorite song.
Here time slows, the world slips away, and for a little while, it’s just you, the glass in your hand, and the magic in the room. In true speakeasy style, this is a place you’ll have to discover on your own. Because once you do, you’ll understand why it’s better left unspoken.

PUMPKIN SPICE BREAD with CREAM CHEESE FILLING
Nothing says Autumn quite like a Pumpkin Loaf
ARTICLE BY AMBER DAWN SCHULTHEIS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAWNING MEMORIES
Who doesn’t love a cake baked in a loaf pan that, for reasons no one can quite explain, we all insist on calling bread? This Pumpkin Spice “Bread” is filled with the simplest, most decadent cream cheese filling - which plays the role of frosting in the scenario where this bread is actually… cake.
A few tips as you dig into this seasonal delight:
• Be sure to use pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, as the latter is very sweet and will confuse your ratio of ingredients.
• Serve warm with a freshly brewed pot of chai tea or a dark roast coffee.
• You can freeze the second loaf whole, to be savored another day. It keeps in the freezer for up to 3 months without compromising texture.
• This makes a lovely hostess gift or house warming gesture. Wrap the cooled loaf in parchment paper and twine and hand deliver to your family and friends.

Pumpkin Spice Bread with Cream Cheese Filling
Serves: 24 (Yields 2 large loaves)
Pumpkin Spice Bread
INGREDIENTS:
• 3 cups all purpose flour
• 2 ¾ cups granulated sugar
• 2 teaspoons baking soda
• ½ teaspoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon kosher salt
• 2 ½ cups canned pumpkin puree (not pie filling)
INSTRUCTIONS:
• 1 cup avocado oil (or other neutral vegetable oil)
• 4 large eggs
• 2/3 cup water
• 1 heaping teaspoon cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon allspice
• ½ teaspoon cardamom (optional)
• ½ teaspoon ginger (or more if you love ginger)
1. Preheat the oven to 350F and prepare two large loaf pans with parchment paper and butter or non-stick spray.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Use a whisk to mix until well combined.
3. In a separate bowl, combine pumpkin puree, eggs, water, and spices. Using a hand whisk or handheld mixer, mix until well incorporated. Slowly add your dry ingredient mixture until combined. Be thoughtful not to overmix as this will create a less tender loaf. Set aside.
4. Make your Cream Cheese Filling (recipe below).
5. Fill each loaf pan about 1/3 full. Gently spoon your Cream Cheese Filling over the first layer of batter, about 1 inch thick. Use the back of a spoon to gently smooth your filling, if you wish. Pour the remaining batter over the filling to cover completely, leaving 1-1 ½ inches between the top of the batter and the top of the loaf pan to allow for a clean rise.
6. Bake for 50-60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove the pans from the oven and cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing and serving.
Cream Cheese Filling
Yields: 2/3 cup Dressing | Prep Time: 10 minutes
INGREDIENTS
• 6 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
• 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
INSTRUCTIONS:
• 4 tablespoons powdered sugar
• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip together with a whisk or hand mixer until smooth.
2. Spoon the mixture onto the first layer of batter (step 5 above). Use any extra filling remaining for serving!

MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER
WALKING TOWARD HOPE
Did you know that 1 in 8 women (about 13%) will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime? It is the second most common cancer among women. It accounts for about 30% of all new female cancers each year. But despite these sobering numbers, the fight
vibrant, and hopeful event. This family and dog-friendly 5K walk is more than a fundraiser. It’s a celebration of life, strength, and community spirit. Participants are encouraged to wear bright pink to honor survivors and raise awareness, while the scenic route along
“JOIN US ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25TH AND BE PART OF THE MOVEMENT THAT HAS TRANSFORMED THE LIVES OF MILLIONS.”
against breast cancer has never been stronger, fueled by hope, courage, and communities that walk together to make a difference.
For over 30 years, the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) has united people nationwide to stand against breast cancer in all its forms. This movement, which has grown into the largest breast cancer fundraising event in the nation, is about more than just walking; it’s about creating a supportive space where survivors, caregivers, families, and friends come together in solidarity. Every step taken at these 3-5 mile noncompetitive walks symbolizes a collective commitment to ending breast cancer.
MAKING STRIDES OF SNOHOMISH COUNTY
In Snohomish County, Making Strides brings hundreds of participants together each year in a joyful,
Everett’s newly remodeled Waterfront Place offers stunning views and a sense of connection to the natural world.
The event schedule includes a survivor group photo by the HOPE wall, pre-walk stretches, a spirited walk through the marina, and even a Bark for Breast Cancer Doggy Costume Contest, reminding us that the fight against breast cancer touches every member of the family, four-legged friends included.
THE IMPACT OF MAKING STRIDES
The funds raised through Making Strides have a tangible and powerful impact. Breast cancer survival rates have improved dramatically over the past decade. Today, the 5 year relative survival rate for localized breast cancer (cancer that has not spread outside the breast) is 99%. This progress is thanks in large part to advances in research, early detection, and patient care.
But research is only part of the story. The American Cancer Society also provides vital patient services, including free rides to chemotherapy appointments, lodging near treatment centers, 24/7 helplines staffed by trained specialists, and now, digital patient support with oneon-one connections via video chat. These programs ensure that no one walks the breast cancer journey alone.
JOIN US IN MAKING STRIDES
This year’s walk takes place at Boxcar Park in Everett’s Waterfront Place, a beautiful new 65-acre mixed-use development that offers the perfect backdrop for a day of community, remembrance, and hope. Whether you choose the full 3-5 mile route or the shorter path, every step you take makes a difference.
Join us on Saturday, October 25th and be part of the movement that has transformed the lives of millions. Together, we can make strides toward a future where breast cancer no longer claims lives, where survivors thrive, and where hope never fades.

RUSH Lattin Cellars
FROM SPARK TO SIGNATURE
ARTICLE BY SNOHOMISH CITY LIFESTYLE STAFF
PHOTOGRAPHY BY RUSH LATTIN CELLARS
With a single taste, Larry Ransom discovered a passion that would reshape his life and eventually lead to the founding of Rush Lattin Cellars.
“Right after Michelle and I were married, a close friend shared an unlabeled bottle of wine, a ‘shiner.’ Until then, I wasn’t a wine drinker,” Larry recalls. “But that moment changed everything. It was an awakening. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I went searching for a wine that could match it, and that journey turned into something much bigger.”
As Larry and Michelle pursued their passion, they found themselves surrounded by a generous community of friends and mentors who helped them understand the art and science of winemaking. A one-barrel experiment in their garage grew into something remarkable: an artisan boutique winery that creates small-lot wines known for richness, purity, and elegance.
“I’ve always been driven by the pursuit of excellence,” says Larry. “Before wine, I spent decades helping leaders and teams unlock potential. I believe we’re all creators at heart, and winemaking became my next canvas.”
That spirit of creativity and connection extends beyond the cellar. Rush Lattin hosts regular Wine Nights, intimate gatherings where people come together to share great wine, good stories, and meaningful community.
“For me,” Michelle adds, “the greatest joy is seeing people connect, people who might never have crossed paths otherwise, because of a glass of wine and a shared moment.”
Rush Lattin Cellars is currently located inside The Vault in Maltby, 9206 200th Street SE, Suite B-6a, Snohomish, with plans for a second tasting room coming soon.
