Discover the perfect gift at One Common

Your local destination for thoughtfully curated men’s fashion and unique gifts.

From timeless wardrobe staples to Birkenstocks he’ll wear all summer long, we’ve got everything to make his day special.

What will you discover?

Welcome to our Explore issue! When was the last time you invested in a bit of exploration and how did it turn out? May we suggest you choose to explore our little corner of the world more fully and see what you find that you may not have been aware of before.

Have you visited any of the galleries that call Snohomish home? How about the walk along the river? The weather is starting to cooperate enough to enjoy a balloon ride or a more daring adventure with Skydive Snohomish. Either of those provides a unique perspective of our area but one certainly worth seeing.

The Farmers Market has recently resumed, and the number of vendors who delight their customers continues to grow, making this event something to look forward to every week. My personal favorite so far is Gusto Wood Fired Pizza, where you get both a show and great pizza. Which vendor do you think is a “mustvisit” location?

As you will see in the pages that follow, one of our photographers has been cruising the area and capturing some of the artwork that graces several of the local buildings on and near First Street. Make sure you get a glance at those when you are in town next.

Finally, while you are soaking up the sun or getting soaked by the occasional shower, taste some of the local flavors in and around town. We have some of the finest, from coffee brewed any way you like it to ice cream or frozen yogurt with more toppings than you can imagine. Spirits from Trails End, locally crafted delights from Skip Rock Distillery, or more varietals of wine to choose from than nearly anywhere else, all available at Uptown. Whether it’s the halibut at Roger’s, the steak at The Repp, chowder at Andy’s, or the finest sandwich around from Heidi’s, pace yourself because even after all of this, there is still more to explore. Let the adventure begin!

SNOHOMISH THROUGH

A Creative Lens

A LOOK AT THE STREET ART IN DOWNTOWN DISTRICT

Hands of Today by Jeff Velleta
ARTICLE BY COURTNEY EVANS PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAWNING MEMORIES
Avenue C Mural by Artist Mackenzie Stinson

When was the last time you took a stroll through Downtown Snohomish and really noticed the street art? Not just a passing glance—but truly saw the colors, the creativity, and the stories painted on walls and tucked into unexpected corners. Our charming downtown is home to an array of murals and artistic gems that add life, character, and heart to the streets.

This gallery highlights just a handful of our favorites—Snohomish through a creative lens. So next time you’re downtown, take a moment to soak it all in. Snap a photo, share the love, and don’t forget to follow and support the talented local artists behind the work.

While you're exploring, keep an eye out for the beautifully painted planters scattered throughout downtown. Five local artists were selected to transform these everyday objects into vibrant pieces of public art. The theme? “Bringing the Snohomish community together”—a message that shines through in every brushstroke.

MINI SUMMER PAVLOVAS

A perfect treat for Summer Celebrations

Pavlova is one of those magical desserts that seems really daunting from afar but is quite simple to make. It’s a flurry of whipped egg whites and sugar that crisps up on the outside while baking and remains chewy and tender in the center. It is naturally gluten-free and made with some of the simplest pantry staples.

Pavlova is known for cracking during the baking process, however, all of its sins are covered and

forgotten by whisps of whipped cream and piles of fruit toppings! Once baked and cooled, you will finish them off with a layer of beauty and decadence and no one will be the wiser.

This recipe is designed for “mini” pavlovas, perfect for your next summer gathering. Guests can grab and go, take and enjoy, snag and devour, and not miss a moment of this summers Fourth of July fireworks show, all while enjoying this light taste of freshness. Enjoy!

BY DAWNING MEMORIES

MINI SUMMER PAVLOVAS

Ingredients:

• 6 large egg whites at room temperature

• 1 ¼ cups extra fine sugar or castor sugar (traditional granulated sugar works but may leave them a bit on the grainy side)

• 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

• 2 teaspoons cornstarch

• 1 teaspoon white vinegar

For Toppings:

• Fresh or store-bought whipped cream

• An assortment of fresh berries

Kitchen Tools:

• 2 Large baking sheets

• Parchment paper

• Pencil

• Medium mixing bowl

• Stand mixer or electric hand mixer

• Measuring cups and spoons

• Rubber spatula

• ½ cup ice cream scoop

• Metal spoon

Directions:

1. Pre-heat your oven to 325F.

2. Line two large baking sheets with parchment. Using a wide-mouthed Mason jar or similar, trace six circles, equal distance from each other (about two inches apart). Do this on both pieces of parchment. This gives you a stencil to pipe or scoop your pavlova mixture into and ensures consistent sizes. Set your “stencils” and prepared baking sheets to the side.

3. Separate your egg whites one at a time and place in your mixing bowl.

4. Whip the egg whites on high for about 2 minutes. Then, add your caster sugar one spoonful at a time while still whipping. Continue beating the egg white and sugar mixture until the sugar has incorporated, about 8 minutes. The mixture will be glossy and somewhat resemble a nostalgic “marshmallow fluff.”

5. Add the vinegar and cornstarch and beat for another 30-45 seconds.

6. Using a ½ cup sized ice cream scoop, gather a generous amount of the mixture and place on the prepared baking sheet in each of your stenciled circles. Use the back of a spoon to create a small well in the center of each pavlova, playfully adding shape, texture, and character as well as room for your eventual toppings.

7. Place both baking sheets into the 325F oven and reduce the heat to 225F. Bake for about 85 minutes or until the pavlovas are dry to the touch, not sticky.

8. Turn the oven off and let sit in the oven until completely cooled, about 2 hours. At this stage, you can leave them overnight and revisit them in the morning if you like.

9. Once fully cooled, store the pavlovas in airtight containers to preserve them. Moisture will cause them to “melt” and their shelf life will be more limited. They will keep for about three days.

10. When you’re ready to serve, top the pavlovas with fresh or store-bought whipped cream and your favorite summer berries.

SNOHOMISH Farmers Market

CELEBRATING 35 YEARS OF FRESHNESS
ARTICLE BY COURTNEY EVANS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SARAH DYLAN JENSEN

For 35 years, the Snohomish Farmers Market (SFM) has been more than just a place to shop—it’s been a vibrant hub of community, culture, and connection. Each season, the market builds upon its longstanding commitment to local farmers, artisans, and families, continuing to innovate and expand how it serves the people of Snohomish with a mission to address food insecurity and provide a platform for community-driven solutions.

This year, as the market celebrates 35 years of operation, it’s about creating impact and empowering the people of Snohomish to make a real difference. The market is creating new opportunities to bridge gaps in food access by deepening its partnerships with local organizations and vendors. One such exciting collaboration is with Culinary Immigration, who will be hosting live cooking demos throughout the season. These demos will not only showcase the incredible fresh ingredients available at the market but also celebrate the cultural diversity within our community, bringing people together over food that tells a story. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or someone looking to get more creative in the kitchen, these demos will leave you inspired and ready to cook up something great!

But that’s not all—this partnership isn’t just about cooking; it’s about giving back to the community that has made this Market a central part of its Downtown life The Snohomish Farmers Market

works closely with the Snohomish Food Bank to raise awareness about the invaluable services they offer.  This partnership allows market-goers to not only learn about the food bank’s offerings but also directly contribute by purchasing and donating fresh food directly from the farmers to the food bank. The collaboration makes it easier than ever to give back, and ensure that nothing goes to waste.

The market’s focus on food insecurity is not new—this has always been a core part of its mission. For 35 years, Snohomish Farmers Market has actively worked to make healthy, local food more accessible to all community members. Through programs like SNAP/ EBT and SNAP Market Match, the market has made it possible for low-income families to purchase fresh produce and other healthy foods. And with the addition of the Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP), seniors and WIC families are also able to access fresh, locally grown food through benefits specifically designed to help them make healthy choices.

locally-grown food and artisanal products they’ve come to rely on. The market is also expanding its footprint, bringing in more vendors and farmers, allowing even greater access.

Sarah Dylan Jensen, Executive Director, has been leading the market since 2015. shares her excitement about the market’s growth: “Every season, we’re finding new ways to connect with our community. Whether it’s through live cooking demos, direct food donations, or simply making more space for local vendors, we’re committed to making this market a place where everyone can find something valuable—whether that’s fresh produce, meaningful connections, or giving back.”

Celebrating 35 years of operation, it’s about creating impact and  empowering the people of Snohomish to make a real difference.

The Snohomish Farmers Market is truly a place where neighbors come together— not just to shop, but to celebrate and invest in each other. It’s a place where farmers and food producers are given a platform to shine, where artisans can showcase their craftsmanship, and where every purchase helps support a more sustainable, equitable future.

With a vision to build on these efforts, the Snohomish Farmers Market has expanded its season this year, running from May through October. This extra month means more opportunities for community members to enjoy the fresh,

TRAVEL IN STYLE

THE ART OF BLENDING IN WITHOUT COMPROMISING LUXURY

There’s a certain tension every stylish traveler knows all too well—the desire to explore new cities freely while avoiding the telltale signs of being a tourist. The oversized nylon crossbody, the bulky anti-theft backpack, the zippered money belt awkwardly hidden under layers of fabric. We wear them to feel safe, but they often strip away the style and elegance we bring to every other part of our wardrobe.

But what if travel gear didn’t have to compromise your look? What if you could explore

confidently, securely, and still feel like yourself polished, put together, and quietly refined?

It starts with redefining what a travel bag can be. Instead of the usual utilitarian look, imagine a sleek, structured handbag with discreet compartments, a secure closure you can trust, and just enough edge to turn heads in a museum or at a café. It doesn’t scream for attention, but it holds its own. It blends in, not because it hides, but because it belongs.

These are the pieces designed not just for the destination, but for the experience of getting there. A convertible crossbody that becomes a clutch for dinner. A softly grained leather tote with a zippered interior and hidden pockets, all while resting lightly on your shoulder. A hands-free belt bag reimagined in supple suede or polished calfskin, worn as effortlessly in Paris as it is in Tokyo.

Security doesn’t have to look like a lockbox. With thoughtful design—interior zippers, magnetic closures, and RFID protection subtly built in—these bags protect what matters most without announcing it to the world. They offer peace of mind, not panic-proof hardware.

When you carry a bag like this, you don’t just travel—you arrive. You blend into the rhythm of a new city with ease and elegance, moving through streets and markets with the quiet confidence of someone who belongs. Because the most stylish travelers aren’t trying to stand out; they’ve simply found a way to carry who they are, securely and beautifully.

“When you carry a bag like this, you don’t just travel— you arrive.”

Picnics Pairings

CREATE A LIVELY, NUTRITIOUS, AND TASTY SENSATION AT YOUR NEXT COZY PICNIC

ARTICLE BY KIM COSTA PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Have you been eyeing a breathtaking view or a luscious green patch near a waterscape? For special times with your favorite people, nothing says warm weather fun like a picnic. Follow these tips for preparation ideas.

Ambiance:

Throw pillows are a must.  Pull them from your couches or invest in outdoor pillows that can be used repeatedly.  A large throw is also essential to protect from moist ground and grass stains.  Bring your favorite tunes with one of the many available portable speakers or unplug and enjoy the sounds of nature. Cut flowers add a wow factor.

You don’t have to own a picnic basket to have a picnic. But if you do bring a basket, make sure to have some way to chill your perishables and drinks. Reusable silverware, plastic wine or drink cups, and plates often come with a picnic basket set, but can also be purchased separately. Keeping it elegant, but easy (and cool) is the key!

Accompaniments:

A cheese plate with fruit is the perfect start to your picnic fare. As with the cheese, your drink selections should coordinate with the main dish. For salads, pair accoutrements with the dressing in mind. A lemony herb vinaigrette dressing goes well with smooth cheeses and tart beverages such as lemonade, prosecco, or sauvignon blanc.

Enjoy your perfect picnic!
