LIFESTYLE LETTER

Here's to Style

I hope this letter finds you inspired and ready to embrace the beauty of self-expression!

Style is such an extraordinary part of life—it’s far more than the clothes we wear or the accessories we choose. Style is woven into every detail of our existence, from the way we decorate our homes to the art and music we enjoy, the books we read, and even how we interact with the world around us. It’s the unique thread that creates the tapestry of who we are.

What makes style so captivating is its deeply personal nature. It evolves alongside us as we explore new interests, embrace our quirks, and express what we value most. It’s a language without words, a powerful tool for connection that can bridge differences and spark shared understanding.

Here in Scottsdale, we’re fortunate to have endless opportunities to celebrate and explore style. Whether it’s through exploring new fashions, viewing artwork, or simply drawing inspiration from our city’s vibrant culture, there’s so much to ignite your creativity and lift your spirit.

This month, I encourage you to think of style as an authentic expression of yourself. The most beautiful style is one that reflects who you truly are—your passions, your story, your individuality. And the incredible thing is that no one else in the world can replicate that.

So go ahead, celebrate your unique style. Whether you’re exploring new trends, blending classic elements, or creating something entirely original, let this issue inspire you to embrace the power of self-expression.

Here’s to being unapologetically and uniquely you!

Yours,

September 2025

From the Publisher ...

What I love the most about style is its individuality. I think you can tell a lot about a person from their style. It’s unique yet not necessarily one of a kind. And it’s always changing.

They say history tends to repeat itself. Fashion isn’t exempt from this rule, either. I’m starting to see fashions from my childhood come back—so much so that I actually got out my yearbooks to see how similar things are from 25-plus years ago to today. Honestly, the quality of the photos was the most significant change, not the style of clothing.

Growing up, I remember my mom saying the most dreaded words any teenager can hear from their parents: “I remember wearing those clothes and that style being around, too.” Like any teenager wants to hear that they’re wearing the same thing their parents wore growing up! Guess what? Now I’m seeing the teens wear what I wore growing up.

Even though we see fashion repeating itself, each generation makes it unique to them—and that’s what makes fashion style, and what makes style so unique. From what we wear to the car we drive to the house we live in, everything we have represents our style. Scottsdale is no exception to this rule. This issue represents just that: Scottsdale’s style.

What’s your style?

UNAPOLOGETIC SELF-EXPRESSION

was evident early. From sketching vibrant dresses to crafting her own fashion magazines and sewing, her childhood pursuits pointed to her future in design. After graduating with a BFA in fashion design from Savannah College of Art and Design, she honed her skills working for fashion houses in London and New York City.

Haley Emerson’s calling for fashion
Designer Haley Emerson’s Debut Brand Empowers Women to Embrace Their Individuality
Haley Emerson
“At Haley J., we are always about people first, choosing love, kindness, and respect in every opportunity.”

Although she grew up in Detroit, Emerson now calls Scottsdale home. She lives here with her husband, daughter, and two fluffy doodles.

Driven by her belief in unapologetic self-expression, her namesake brand, Haley J., empowers women to embrace their own individuality. She brought this vision to life in 2025 when she launched her luxury designer label, offering bold styles for women and children.

We sat down with Emerson to speak about fashion, her label, and living in Scottsdale.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE LAUNCH OF HALEY J.! WHAT DOES THIS MOMENT MEAN TO YOU PERSONALLY AND PROFESSIONALLY?

Seeing Haley J. go from a concept in my mind to a tangible brand that people can wear is profoundly emotional. For me, it’s more than just a brand, it’s a piece of who I am, with my heart and soul woven into every single stitch.

YOUR BRAND IS ROOTED IN BOLD COLOR, CONFIDENCE, AND CRAFTSMANSHIP. WHAT INSPIRED THAT VISION?

My personal style has always been centered on bold colors—it’s simply part of who I am. I believe colors are a powerful way to express emotion, and at Haley J., every color choice is intentional. Our main goal is to design clothes that help you exude confidence.

My standard for craftsmanship is simple—if I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it right. This means settling for nothing less than the highest quality.

YOU’VE WORKED WITH SOME ICONIC FASHION HOUSES, FROM COUTURE IN LONDON TO CONTEMPORARY FASHION IN NEW YORK. HOW DID THOSE EXPERIENCES SHAPE THE DESIGNER YOU ARE TODAY?

I am so thankful for my experiences working in luxury fashion. It taught me so much about the industry CONTINUED >

and gave me the skills and the confidence to launch my own brand. While a lot of positives, it also showed me how I wanted to do things differently. At Haley J., we are always about people first, choosing love, kindness, and respect in every opportunity.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE CREATING GARMENTS FOR CELEBRITIES UNDER EMILIO DE LA MORENA? ANY STORIES THAT STILL STICK WITH YOU?

After college, I moved to London and then started working for Emilio. It was an invaluable experience that taught me how to navigate the fashion industry, what it takes to run a brand, and significantly advanced my patternmaking skills. I was working there when COVID hit, navigating life in a new country and how the professional fashion world completely changed was a profound learning experience.

YOU DESIGN FOR BOTH WOMEN AND CHILDREN. WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO CREATE FOR BOTH?

My mentors have always told me my aesthetic would be perfect for childrenswear, and that idea has always stuck with me. But the real decision came after I had my daughter—of course, I wanted to match with her! It was a very natural direction for my brand.

YOU’VE CHOSEN TO PRODUCE EVERYTHING IN THE U.S.—WHY WAS THAT IMPORTANT TO YOU?

Our top commitment at Haley J. is quality of craftsmanship. By producing all garments in New York City and all footwear in Los Angeles, I have a hands-on relationship with the entire production process. I can regularly visit the factories, talk to patternmakers and sewers, and make real-time adjustments to ensure

“I’m a relatively new resident of Scottsdale! The move was a strategic choice for my brand, and I’m excited to join and contribute to the growing fashion community here.”

every detail is perfection. Additionally, by choosing to manufacture domestically, we are supporting American manufacturing. It’s more than just my brand, it is about supporting local businesses.

THE UPCOMING READY-TO-WEAR EXPANSION SOUNDS EXCITING. WHAT CAN YOU TEASE ABOUT WHAT’S COMING NEXT FOR HALEY J.?

This fall, Haley J. is having pop-up shops across the country, offering customers the chance to experience the collection in person. We will also be launching several new styles this fall and winter that I am very excited about!

FAVORITE PIECE YOU’VE EVER DESIGNED?

Without a doubt, the Pink Party Top and the matching Pink Party Pant. This look is the DNA of my personal style and the heart of the Haley J. brand. It is a statement of unapologetic self-expression and truly captures our mission.

WHAT’S A FASHION RULE YOU LOVE TO BREAK—OR THINK WE ALL SHOULD?

I’ve never been a follower of trends. I don’t worry about what’s popular; I just wear what brings me joy. To me, fashion should always be about powerful self-expression, regardless of what is trending.

IF YOU COULD RAID ANYONE’S CLOSET, PAST OR PRESENT, WHOSE WOULD IT BE?

Without a doubt, it would be the late fashion icon Iris Apfel. She was the very definition of a rulebreaker, fearlessly confident and unafraid to challenge the norms of fashion.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN SCOTTSDALE AND WHAT KEEPS YOU ROOTED HERE RATHER THAN LIVING IN A FASHION CAPITAL SUCH AS, SAY, NEW YORK OR PARIS?

I absolutely loved living in London and New York. While the opportunities were incredible, when it came time to start a family, I realized I wanted to find a balance—a place that still had hustle and bustle but also offered a slower pace of life for my family.

I’m a relatively new resident of Scottsdale! The move was a strategic choice for my brand, and I’m excited to join and contribute to the growing fashion community here.

WHEN YOU’RE NOT DESIGNING, WHERE MIGHT WE FIND YOU UNWINDING OR RECHARGING?

You can find me at home hanging out with my husband and daughter, at my favorite local coffee shop (Light Heart), exploring the Phoenix Art Museum, and trying local restaurants.

FINALLY, WHEN YOU LOOK FIVE YEARS AHEAD, WHAT DO YOU DREAM OF HALEY J. BECOMING?

Haley J. isn’t just about fashion—it’s a lifestyle. While I have big plans to expand our product assortment, my main goal in five years will be to continue dressing women in colorful, feminine silhouettes that make them feel powerful, beautiful, and confident.

GLOBAL GALLERY

Saatchi Art and Sarah Meller Redefine How People Purchase Art
ARTIST’S PALETTE | ARTS + CULTURE

Scottsdale has long been known as a world-class art destination. More than 60 galleries, most concentrated in the downtown Arts District, showcase works from internationally known artists and local favorites. But virtual galleries are changing the way art is exhibited and purchased. Many collectors are also seeking that perfect painting or statement sculpture online.

One of the largest and most prominent digital art platforms is Saatchi Art. More than 94,000 artists from over 110 countries display everything from paintings and photographs to sculpture, textile art, and ceramics. Prices range from less than $500 to upward of $10,000.

At the helm of this global gallery is Arizona native Sarah Meller. Meller, who has been with Saatchi since 2018, was appointed CEO in 2023.

“In the past, if you wanted to collect great artwork, you probably had to be in the right place, know the right galleries and the right people, and have a good amount of cash. Now that model has been upended,” she explains.

Meller fell in love with art during an Advanced Placement art history class.

“Before that, I had no idea that you could study the world and understand its history through that arts and culture lens,” she recalls.

After graduating, Meller studied art at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania and then Hunter College in New York City. Before joining Saatchi, she worked in the marketing department at the famed Whitney Museum of American Art.

“It all comes back to that classroom, though,” she says. “It was just so illuminating and captivating to me, and it changed the directory of my whole life.”

Meller focuses on supporting artists who don’t have an exclusive relationship with a gallery. One such artist is sculptor Kevin Caron.

Potluck painting by Autumn Rose

Dozens of Valley artists, from top names to emerging talents, display their artwork on Saatchi. “We have some really great ones. I think there’s something to Arizona’s landscape or the incredible light that really seems to awaken in people a creative way of seeing,” Meller says. “There must be something to it, because we have a lot of stellar artists who are really popular with even international collectors.”

Andrea Merican, Michael Paul, Leslie Singer, Jamie Lynn Nuzbach, and Brandon Petrykowski join creatives from around the globe, making it easy for collectors to discover artists whose works they previously may never have had an opportunity to view and to find that perfect piece for their home.

“You can fall in love with an artist in Nigeria or even a local artist from your own city, all while you’re having your morning coffee,” Meller says. “That’s what we’re all about—this belief that everyone deserves to live with art that speaks to them.”

THE RESORT

Beginning in 2023, The Westin La Paloma began a sweeping multimillion-dollar renovation that has already renovated or redesigned much of the property, including its 486 guest rooms and suites. The neutral color palette is earthy and soothing, inviting relaxation, and private balconies and large windows frame desert and mountain views.

AMENITIES

Relax here at one of the five outdoor pools— including a main pool, children’s pool, and adult pool—while listening to the soothing sound of one of the many shimmering waterfalls. Kids and kids at heart can slide down the twisty water slide.

When you’re ready to truly unwind and pamper yourself, head to the La Paloma Spa & Salon for one of its immersive sensory journeys, including the personalized Agave Nectar Massage and the iconic HydraFacial. If golf is your preferred activity, take advantage of the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. There’s also the new indoor Topgolf Swing Suite Experience, which adds a virtual golf option, as well as football, soccer, and baseball selections.

Tennis courts and a state-of-the-art fitness center, as well as nearby hiking, provide additional ways to work up a sweat.

The variety of resort events, from live music to stargazing, provide plenty of fun options.

FOOD & DRINK

This stunning resort offers food and beverage creations that are just as incredible. La Luz, the property’s signature restaurant, showcases thoughtfully designed creations that reflect the warmth and spirit of the desert.

THE ULTIMATE LUXURY GRAND TOURER

Bridging the GT/supercar divide, the self-proclaimed “world’s first Super Tourer” is a more dynamic and modernized version of the British marque’s DB11. Introduced in 2023, the DB12 uses the same chassis and suspension set-up as its predecessor, and a similar twin turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. The result is balanced handling and a comfortable ride with the thrill of a lightning-fast racing car. This aggressive coupe reaches 60 mph in 3.3 seconds on the way to a top speed of 202 mph.

Aston Martin doesn’t sacrifice safety, though. The 2025 model includes a slew of safety features, such as driver drowsiness detection, forward collision warning, front and rear cross-traffic assist, lane departure warning, and traffic sign recognition.

In addition to performance, the DB12 offers envy-inducing comfort and style. The interior is adorned with a blend of high-end materials and hand-stitched leather. The dash is outfitted with Aston Martin’s first touch screen, offering quality graphics on a display that’s not overcrowded and offers quick responsiveness. The 10.3-inch center infotainment screen supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. And the standard 11-speaker audio system can be upgraded for a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system.
