A Season of Gratitude

In this season of giving thanks, we often find ourselves reflecting on the many blessings in our lives. The true spirit of Thanksgiving encourages the expression of gratitude. Its focus is spending time with those that you love and encourages giving back in a meaningful way. I am humbled at the many people in Roswell I meet who are touched by and touch others in a serving capacity. We are a very generous community.

Read on pages 28-30 about honoring our first responders as heroes and giving back to them in community as well on pages 22-23 about one man taking action with youth. Read as we share on pages 46 -47 about young people learning to volunteer and give back.

Our November issue is dedicated to stories of gathering, gratefulness and giving back. We are so thankful for the residents and businesses in our community who support so many wonderful organizations and help make our city the vibrant community that it is.

We have so many features this month of pure gratitude, hope and inspiration and perseverance.  Our cover story is just one of these examples, Danny Wueffler's life and legacy of faith and service through the years is incredibly inspiring as he shared with those at Roswell Rotary last month.

We are especially thankful for our community business partners, these wonderful local businesses who support us and who help bring this magazine to your doorsteps each month. They are part of our vision and purpose of bringing inspiring stories and the good news of the community directly to you.  This holiday season as we prepare to gather with friends and family, and in the true spirit of thanksgiving, let’s set time aside to consider what truly makes life meaningful and stop to reflect on those blessings.

Blessings to you and your family,

November 2025

AGING WITH DIGNITY:

After more than 25 years in healthcare field and running family-operated personal care homes, Esther and David Woghiren witnessed a heartbreaking crisis. There were too many aging adults being discharged due to lack of funding, left in unsafe or unstable situations.

“We started My Global Blessings to address this issue and ensure that seniors can age in place with dignity, security, and proper support,” shared Esther Woghiren, CEO and co-founder.

The nonprofit offers Emergency Rental Assistance, Utility Assistance, Home Repair Financial Support, and a Caregiver Wellness Day Program—all designed to support low-income seniors and the family members who care for them.

“We serve seniors 55 and older, as well as informal caregivers, throughout the metro Atlanta area—including Roswell and East

Cobb,” said Esther. Many of those they help are on fixed incomes or qualify for VA benefits.

With the senior population growing rapidly, Esther says their mission is more urgent than ever. “Our work helps families keep their loved ones in stable, familiar environments, while also providing support and education about planning for long-term care.”

You can support their mission by volunteering, donating, attending events, or simply spreading the word. “Every contribution helps us provide critical resources to seniors in need,” Esther added.

At the heart of it all is a message of empowerment. “Our work is about more than assistance—it’s about building a compassionate community where seniors are valued and cared for.”

GRATITUDE IN ACTION:

Mentorship with a mission

FREDERICK J. LEVY II AND

“TRY

NEW THINGS”

For Roswell businessman Frederick J. Levy II, gratitude is more than a feeling, it’s a call to action. The mentors who guided him as a teenager left a lasting mark, and today he’s paying it forward through Try New Things, a mentorship program he founded to help middle and high school boys in Roswell and North Fulton grow into confident, community minded young men.

“I have always believed that young men need positive examples and intentional guidance to help them find their way,” Levy says. “Especially through exposure to new things, volunteering in the community, increased awareness of courtesy and nobility in the way they go about their lives.”

From camping trips to service projects, these boys are learning life lessons that last.
“Stay curious and willing to Try New Things. The skills and relationships you build while exploring unfamiliar experiences often become the foundation for future success.”
– Frederick J. Levy II

What began with two dads mentoring their sons and a small group of friends has become an intentional program. “I realized that the impact could extend far beyond our own families,” he recalls.

The mission is clear: build character and leadership skills through new experiences and service above self. “We focus on life skills that aren’t always taught in school: confidence, etiquette, professional communication, and responsibility,” Levy explains. “We also emphasize trying new things through golf outings, camping trips, and volunteering. To spark curiosity, build resilience, and broaden their sense of what is possible.”

Levy knows the value of role models, he had several. “These men, business leaders and active community volunteers took me under their wing, introducing me to the outdoors, modeling discipline, and showing what service to others truly means.”

His advice to every young man? “Stay curious and willing to Try New Things. The skills and relationships you build while exploring unfamiliar experiences often become the foundation for future success.”

Community members can help by volunteering, sharing professional expertise, or hosting skill-building opportunities.

TREY WRIGHT

Trey Wright: Grateful for Roswell

Striking the Right Chord in Roswell

If you’ve listened to live jazz around Roswell or Atlanta, chances are you’ve heard the soulful sounds of guitarist Trey Wright. A seasoned performer and educator, Trey’s journey began while studying Sociology at the University of Georgia. “In 1994, I co-founded the Athensbased jazz band Squat. The band toured extensively giving me my first glimpses into life as a musician.”

Since then, he’s formed a jazz trio, released original albums, collaborated with Grammy-winning saxophonist Mace Hibbard, and had his compositions featured on NPR, Hulu, and Delta’s in-flight entertainment. “I’ve always enjoyed composing," he says. “I want my music to say something and reflect my personality and who I am.”

One of his most memorable experiences? Performing in India at the World Sacred Music Festival. “The event was hosted by Tibet House and included a private meeting with the Dalai Lama. It was incredible!”

Trey moved to Roswell in 2007 to be closer to his family and teaching position at Kennesaw State University. “We knew we had moved to the right place,” he shares. “It has been a great place to raise our kids. Having access to nature and a local community of artists and arts organizations is one of the main reasons we live in Roswell.”

Whether performing solo, with his trio, or collaborating with local musicians, Trey Wright continues to bring depth, authenticity, and heart to every note he plays. Learn more at treywright.com

Heroes, Hummers & Hops:

Roswell brings together community, music, flavors to raise funds honoring and supporting brave first responders.

On September 14, 2025, the Roswell community came together for a night filled with music, food, and heartfelt gratitude. The 2nd Annual Heroes, Hummers & Hops event celebrated the city’s first responders while raising critical funds to support their ongoing work and wellbeing.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

The stage came alive with performances by The 31’s and Run Katie Run , as guests danced and mingled under the late-summer sky. Food lovers were treated to open-fire grilled creations from some of Roswell’s most beloved restaurants, including Bask Steakhouse, Vin25, Gracious Plenty, 1920, and From the Earth . Adding energy and humor to the evening, Southside Steve Rickman from FOX-FM radio kept the crowd engaged as the event’s charismatic Master of Ceremonies.

SUPPORTING THOSE WHO SERVE

Hosted by the Roswell First Responders Foundation (RFRF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the evening was about more than food and fun. The foundation’s mission is to sustain programs that:

• Provide financial assistance for first responders injured, killed in the line of duty, or facing family hardship.

• Recognize local firefighter and police officer heroes for bravery, innovation, and commitment.

• Purchase supplementary equipment and training materials to keep Roswell’s first responders at the peak of preparedness.

A COMMUNITY’S GENEROSITY

Through a mix of donations, live auction excitement, and generous sponsorships , the event raised an impressive $73,000. Local partners such as Carl Black, Dr. Theolyn Price, Righteous Guitars, Synovus, Betty & Tom Price, Genoa Construction, HITT Contractors, and Austin Dental and many other Patriot sponsors stepped up to make the evening a success.

MORE THAN AN EVENT

Heroes, Hummers & Hops wasn’t just a fundraiser—it was a powerful reminder of the bond between Roswell’s citizens and the men and women who keep them safe. With food, music, and community spirit at the forefront, the evening perfectly blended celebration with purpose.

CELEBRATING COMMUNITY THROUGH ART: REVEL’S ROOFTOP SHOWCASE RETURNS

EXPERIENCE TWO DAYS OF IMMERSIVE CREATIVITY AS LOCAL ARTISTS PRESENT ONE-OF-A-KIND WORKS INSPIRED BY LEGACY, FAITH, AND COMMUNITY CONNECTION.

The Revel Arts Collective presents their 2nd annual show featuring work by Atlanta-area artists. The public is invited to enjoy art by artists from Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell, Marietta, and Dawsonville. The event will be held at The Rooftop at Crabapple, located at 12630 Crabapple Road # 340 Milton, GA 30004. A variety of paintings, sculpture, and pottery will be on display at the show November 14-15, 2025. The Revel Arts Collective is a new legacy rooted in the old. First established in the heart of Alpharetta in 1997, The Mainstreet Art Company (The MAC) was an early champion of local artists, earning acclaim from publications like Creative Loafing and the Roswell/Alpharetta Neighbor. The gallery, described by critics as a “visual feast” and a “champion of the arts,” spent a decade showcasing unique art and fostering a vibrant creative community. The MAC inspired a new generation. In 2024, five women—a career artist, a retired English teacher, a corporate leader, a graphic designer, and an art educator—came together with a shared vision, forming the Revel Arts Collective. The Collective believes visual art is a God-given, universal language

spoken through the hands of creatives to receptive hearts. In November 2024, their inaugural exhibition celebrated this artistic heritage by featuring three generations of The MAC's founding family. Almost 400 people attended the show, which was generously hosted by local realtor Jenny Doyle. With more than 75 artworks sold, the community proved its love for local art. The Collective is just getting started.

The show will run Friday night from 6pm-9pm and Saturday from 10am-3pm and is open to everyone. The timing is perfect for this kind of event as the holiday season approaches. When you find yourself looking for the perfect gift, one-of-a-kind art can be a gift just as unique as the person receiving it.

Engines of the Future

PBS

Lands in Roswell providing jobs along with a huge investment

This past summer Roswell welcomed PBS Aerospace, subsidiary of global jet engine manufacturer PBS Group that has chosen the city for its North American headquarters and U.S. manufacturing hub.

The move is more than a ribbon-cutting: it’s a $20 million investment that brings advanced manufacturing jobs, technical know-how and another strong voice to Georgia’s growing aerospace cluster.

If you’ve driven near Northmeadow Parkway you may have already seen signs of the company’s activity. PBS has outfitted an existing building at 1350 Northmeadow Parkway and plans additional construction nearby as part of its Tech Village North site. The facility will produce a family of small turbojet engines — including the TJ40 and TJ80 models — engines used in high-speed drones, interceptors and other compact platforms.

At the site’s September 4th grand opening, PBS Aerospace CEO Erin Durham shared that “71% of our technicians are veterans. Not only are they patriotic, but also the experience and focus on safety to make sure we can manufacture highly reliable engines in a safe environment right here in the middle of Roswell.” That hiring approach underscores the company’s emphasis on both technical precision and community values.

The scale of PBS’s ambition is striking. “Supply thousands of turbo jet engines to the DoD in 2026 and then scale up from there,” the CEO noted, pointing to the company’s fast ramp-up plan. Longer term, PBS already has an eye on expansion. “We’re focused on the future with plans to double the initial capacity as well as add an additional facility in Georgia,” he added.

Numbers matter to neighbors who watch job boards and to parents helping kids navigate career paths. PBS’s commitment includes hiring that’s been described as an initial 45 roles with growth to roughly 95–100 positions as operations ramp, offering opportunities across assembly, test, engineering and support functions. For Roswell, those roles mean not just paychecks but potential apprenticeships, supplier relationships for local businesses and an expanded ecosystem for tech-focused workforce development.  City and state leaders have been vocal in their support.

Aerospace

At the opening, Dr. Rich McCormick, U.S. Representative of Georgia’s 7th Congressional District remarked, “For the future of America’s military strategy and tactics we look towards PBS for what we have to get done.” He followed with a note of pride in the community match: “You are the future. Glad to have you, matching up one of the best businesses in America with one of the best locations in America.”

Roswell’s own Mayor Kurt Wilson added, “We are honored to welcome you as members of our community and are committed to supporting your success. Thank you for believing in Roswell and thank you for investing in our people and their future.”

Why Roswell? Georgia’s metro Atlanta area has become an aerospace magnet — companies, research

labs and a pipeline of engineering talent make it attractive for firms that need speed, skilled labor and collaboration. For a European manufacturer like PBS, a local footprint cuts lead times and makes working with U.S. partners and customers easier. For Roswell, it’s a validation: our city is now part of a supply chain that reaches into national defense and high-tech aviation.

For small-business owners, PBS’s presence could open supplier opportunities — from facilities services to precision subcontracting — and for schools and technical colleges it’s a chance to tailor curriculum toward real, local employer needs. Early signs suggest PBS intends to be an active participant, investing not just in bricks and mortar but in relationships and talent pipelines.

Roswell has long been a place that values community identity and growth in equal measure. This opening is a reminder that our town can attract cutting- edge industry while keeping the things that make Roswell feel “like home.”

DANNY WUERFFEL

A Journey of Gratitude and Faith Inspires a Life Dedicated to Love, Family and Giving Back

Danny Wuerffel has spent a lifetime proving that true greatness goes far beyond the football field. The former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback and NFL veteran now devotes his days to serving others guided by faith, fueled by gratitude, and anchored in family.

Danny Wuerffel shares his journey of faith and service at the Roswell Rotary Club.
“Life is a team sport. How we engage with others determines our quality of life.”

“My father was an Air Force chaplain, so I grew up moving all over the country and even lived three years in Spain,” he recalls. “I played high school football in the panhandle of Florida and got a scholarship to play college football at the University of Florida. My time there was so amazing. Sometimes I feel like it wasn’t even real. We won four SEC championships, a national title and I won the Heisman Trophy in 1996. I was drafted by the New Orleans Saints and after seven years in the NFL, I retired to work full time at an inner city ministry in New Orleans, Desire Street Ministries. After Katrina, we moved our headquarters to Atlanta and now support other ministries and under resource neighborhoods all over the country.”

His résumé reads like a sports fan’s dream. At Florida he racked up 17 NCAA and UF records, earned the Campbell Award for the nation’s top scholar-athlete, and graduated with honors in Public Relations. He also reflects on those memorable years

in his book  Tales from the Gator Swamp, available on Amazon. Drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 1997, he also played for the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins. In 2000 he won the World Bowl Championship in the NFL’s European League with the Rhein Fire, before retiring from professional football in 2004. In recognition of his character and leadership, the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy was established in 2005 as college football’s premier community service award, and in 2013 he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

While still a rookie, Wuerffel began volunteering at Desire Street Ministries, a nonprofit serving under resourced neighborhoods. “I got involved as a volunteer in my rookie season with the New Orleans Saints. It’s been an incredible journey over the past nearly 30 years. We’ve had lots of highs and lows, and there’s lots of struggles in this type of work, but it’s very rewarding.”

College Football Hall of Fame induction at The Swamp with his family

That early act of service would shape the rest of his life. In 2006, he became Desire Street’s Executive Director, leading efforts to create thriving and sustainable ministries across the Southeast. The Wuerffel Foundation followed in 2020, leveraging his platform to inspire greater service and unity by honoring and developing community service leaders. Football prepared him well for leadership beyond the gridiron. “It definitely teaches you a lot of lessons about life, and also about leadership. I believe life is lived better as a team sport. How we engage and work with other people largely determines the quality of our life and our effectiveness at any endeavor. Learning to deal with adversity, learning to focus on the things you can control versus the things you can’t, the ability to be flexible, are just a few of things one can learn from football for life.”

Two profound trials deepened his perspective. “Hurricane Katrina destroyed our house and leveled the ministry where we worked in 2005,” he shares. “The aftermath was so difficult, but it helped shape the future for Desire Street and really established my calling as the leader. In 2010, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Guillain Barre Syndrome, and was very sick for several months, and then very tired for over a year. That forced me to slow down, be still, and learn some new things about myself in life. I now cherish quality time alone each day, and have a much more authentic and deeper prayer life.”

Faith and gratitude have been the steady threads through every season. “As a husband, father, former football player and leader of a nonprofit, I fully believe the quality of life is based on how well we deal with other people. I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for all the amazing people that have been in our part of my life."

Top: Danny Wuerffel during his NFL career Bottom: Leading through service with Desire Street Ministries
“Learning to deal with adversity, focus on what you can control, and be flexible are lessons from football for life.”

Wuerffel continues to inspire on and off the court, literally. A competitive pickleball player in the National Pickleball League, he was drafted by the Denver Iconics for the 2024 season and is a partial owner of the Major League Pickleball team, the Orlando Squeeze. In 2022, he hosted the first annual PickleBowl, a charity celebrity pro-am tournament.

Part of his legacy as written in his new book, Tales from the Gator Swamp: Reflections of Faith and Football is available on Amazon for purchase.  This book takes readers on a delightful journey back to the "good old days" of the 1990s, when Spurrier's funning and gunning and cunning style of offense revolutionized the SEC.

After reading this book, fans will understand why Danny Wuerffel collected as much admiration and as many accolades as perhaps any player in the proud history of college football.  Whether cheering on the Florida Gators at “The Swamp,” where his bronze statue stands, or speaking to corporate and nonprofit groups around the country, Danny Wuerffel embodies the spirit of gratitude and service. He and his wife, Jessica, now make their home in Atlanta with their three children. He is living proof that a life dedicated to love, family and giving back is the greatest victory of all.

A FAMILY’S MISSION TO MAKE KINDNESS A HABIT

Little Helpers, Big Impact

“Volunteering isn’t limited to events. It’s a habit that fits into everyday life and free time.”
-Ava Huyen Bui Smith

As the chatter echoed throughout the cafeteria and sandwiches were being served, there was only one thing I could focus on: the little boy in front of me, smiling at the paper crane placed amongst his hands by my older brother Jackson. He stared quietly before beginning to show it off to anyone who passed before dragging his mother over to my family, gleefully. And it was at this moment that I realized there was a difference between people. He was no more than 5 years old, just my height, just my age; the only thing that differed between us was opportunity.

Little Helpers was started on my third birthday in 2010 by my mother in Memphis. Being a Vietnamese refugee, she knew of the power of volunteer work, so she set out on a mission when my brother and I were born to ensure we were exposed. Little did she know that there were very few of such opportunities. Most volunteer sites did not allow children in for liability reasons. However, instead of turning back and deciding to wait until we were of age, my mother set to work and created Little Helpers. No matter where we moved, Little Helpers started chapters across the country including Atlanta in 2015 and soon friends and strangers were reaching out to begin their own. This grew to 20 U.S. chapters and even one in Dublin, Ireland. During a family trip to Vietnam, we handed out treat bags and my brother’s origami to children from the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City to the quiet villages of the Mekong Delta.

This is not a nonprofit, but a volunteer group. Thus, no financial obligation is attached to volunteering, creating an approachable environment for families.

Little Helpers strives to create opportunities for children to become exposed to volunteer work, partnering with various organizations to do such feats. Simple Needs GA became a frequented destination

where we aided in organizing the donation center, crafted birthday blankets, and set up necessity kits for families. Multiple homeless shelters were visited to serve lunch and make sandwiches for those in need. Nursing homes like Oak Leaf Manor in Roswell were visited to play Bingo and bring cards to residents. We also delivered treats to first responders on 9/11, sent care packages to the military, hosted gift giving holiday parties for refugees with an organization called Inspiritus, read to shelter dogs at Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue, made utensil rolls for the soup kitchen at Must Ministries, harvested crops from community gardens with the Alpharetta Community Agriculture Program, and so much more.

You don’t serve only when there’s a crowd, you show up even if it’s just you.

However, Little Helpers is not only about scheduled events, but about creating habits. Volunteering isn’t something that only exists within organizations or planned activities, it can be part of our free time and everyday life. We encourage people to act on the small deeds. Because, like the paper cranes, small acts can create big impacts. It is all about perspective. Some such deeds can be writing a thank you note, making a cake for someone who's sick, checking on a friend, speaking nicely of others even when they're not around, standing up for people being mistreated, opening a door for someone, and even making room for someone at a table. Being kind is not only about the grand gestures, but the quiet acts of kindness that receive no recognition.

So I encourage you to go out and be kind. To be inspired by the people who have resonated and stuck with you.

Fall Harvest time with the vines is magical

EXPERIENCE WORLD-CLASS WINES AND UNFORGETTABLE PAIRINGS, AS ROSWELL WELCOMES THE FINEST FLAVORS OF THE WEST TO ITS COMMUNITY.

Want to have Northern California Wines in your home?  It's easy, Deep Roots Wine and Tasting Market showcases spectacular boutique wines and champagnes to enjoy at home with friends and family this season. Having world-class wines brought right to Roswell’s doorstep is a special gift to our community.

We had the opportunity to attend an unforgettable wine experience, tasting the best flavors harvest season has to offer. Immersing ourselves with winery owners and winemakers really helps put in perspective the hard work and massive staff that goes into producing these special sips. During harvest season, the hills and valleys are full of the aromatic smells where the tireless work goes into picking the ripe grapes from dusk to dawn in many instances.

Ram's Gate Winery:

Our first stop was Ram's Gate Winery as you make the drive up to California Wine country, this winery is perched upon a hill where the San Fran Bay meets the edges of Napa and Sonoma counties. It is a great pace to start your wine journey on their 28 acre estate either looking out on one of their patios, enjoying the well appointed indoor tasting areas or taking a stroll down to the ponds through the vines. We loved experiencing it all at Ram's Gate and had an amazing first tasting to start the journey ahead.

Trione Vineyards & Winery:

We had the pleasure to sit down and hear the story of family legacy with owner, Mark Trione while we tasted delicious wines sourced from each of their five estate ranches, offering a true delicious taste of place—one sip at a time. Three generations, decades of farming, and five ranches, they are deeply rooted in the Sonoma County wine industry for over fifty years. The family, Vic, Mark and Mark’s daughter Denise, who runs the wine business, focuses on the top 3% of grapes grown for their brand, Trione Wine. The historic 100 year old stone building has been preserved and renovated as event space right on property.

Gloria Ferrer:

Nestled on top of the valley and vineyard lies the Gloria Ferrer estate and as you relax and sit on the outdoor patios you view their vineyards, and pollinating gardens, filled with butterflies and hummingbirds. This vineyard, rich in history, began with a dream passed from father to son.

José Ferrer grew up surrounded by his family’s winemaking tradition in Spain. His heart was set on bringing the art of traditional method sparkling wine to the New World. He didn't make the journey alone, he met Gloria, who shared his love of wine and his sense of adventure. Together they crossed oceans and planted roots in Carneros, where the cool breezes and rolling hills reminded them of home. What began as a shared dream became a pioneering legacy,  first sparkling wine estate in the region, this lives on in every bottle of Gloria Ferrer sparkling wine.

We had an amazing afternoon with a six course culinary experience, dishes curated from their own garden and each course complimented with its own signature champagne pairing.  We also while spent time with the young winemaker, Kyle Altomare, who shared with us his passion of blending flavors and putting his skills to work to create and produce over 21 different varietals of bubbles while also producing 8 still wines. It was a beautiful afternoon to say the least.

Sangiacomo Wines:

Maria and Vittorio Sangiacomo immigrated from Italy, met and married in San Francisco, and settled on the home ranch in 1927. They planted apples, pears, peaches, prunes and cherries. Focusing on the pears, the family business became one of the largest pear growing operations in California in 1959. But as the pear market softened, they pivoted and planted the first vineyard in 1969. The first vintage of Sangiacomo Family Wines was born in 2016. As one of the oldest properties and a 5th generation vineyards we enjoyed listening to the history, meeting members of the Sangiacomo family, touring the vineyard and tasting the rich, deep heritaged wines on a beautiful afternoon. We even took our favorite bottle of their Pinot Noir to the famous Steakhouse in downtown Napa, Cole's Chophouse to savor with our steak dinner that evening.

Bricoluer Vineyards:

We toured the gorgeous estate of Bricoluer Vineyards. They launched their first vintage in 2017 and opened its tasting room in 2020. Tucked away in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley, they have been featured on The TODAY Show, and have been honored by USA Today as one of the 10 Best New Wineries in the country. Executive Chef Todd Knoll and his culinary team create seasonal five-course pairings featuring locally sourced ingredients, including produce from their estate gardens. The chefs and winemakers collaborate closely to create "Perfect Pairings" that express the seasonality of the estate’s sustainably farmed culinary garden. We were treated to this delightful experience for lunch and the sips alongside the fresh flavors were something we savored long after we left.

Aperture:

We had our last stop of the day at Aperture Winery and enjoyed a wine flight of their “best in class” wines which we found delicious and enjoyed the modernist approach of architecture the winery’s bulidings. The history of Aperture began as Andy made his name as one of the greatest photographers of his generation, and his work graces coffee-table books, galleries, and album covers around the globe. While he was traveling the world for his art, he made a point of bringing along his son, Jesse, to experience it all with him. Over the years, they both benefited from an international wine education that even master sommeliers would envy. Now  Jesse Katz has, in a remarkably short period of time, made himself into one of the most respected wine professionals in California. He was the first winemaker ever to be included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, a Wine Enthusiast 40 Under 40 Tastemaker, and had been named a Wine Spectator “Rising Star.”

Thanks to Dana Gurela, Deep Roots, for sharing some of her favorite boutique wineries for a sipping experience we will treasure for a lifetime. The people we met show the hard work of the agriculture wine industry that we all enjoy.

Eleven Eleven:

Ellie Anest & Carol Vassilliadis  started out as life long friends and Southern California transplants that fell in love with the Napa Valley.  Expanding their relationship to  focus on real estate investment properties, their first acquisition was a home surrounded by a 3.5 acre vineyard in the heart of the Oak Knoll AVA. The whisper of this magical vineyard called us to take a chance at producing our own wine, says Ellie. Our search for a winemaker led us to one of Napa’s finest - Kirk Venge. And so it began… Eleven Eleven Wines. Eleven Eleven is the closest winery to the city limits of Napa. We sat down with Ellie, owner, and visited learning more about a wine maker's journey to one of the most beautiful wine

tasting rooms and patios we visited. We sipped on the boutique wines and found our favorite Shiraz there that we brought back home. This was a magical day on the vines once again.

A historic family and Napa legend, Paula produces boutique sparkling wines and serves on various industry boards in the region. She also is a consultant for several wineries sharing her vast knowledge and expertise.

St. Nick's Kids:

WHERE LEGAL EXPERTISE MEETS HEART IN THE ADOPTION JOURNEY

Adoptive parents and birth mom, united by the gift of adoption
Growing families through adoption
A beautiful journey through adoption

“After 23 years of a blessed yet childless marriage and several years of contemplating adoption, we were introduced to a wonderful birth mother who due to challenging circumstances made the tough decision to offer her baby for adoption.” -Domestic adoptive parent

Adoption is more than a legal process. It is a leap of love and a promise of belonging. That belief inspired Irene Steffas to launch St. Nick’s Kids, Inc. in 2019.

With more than 40 years of experience helping families grow through adoption, Steffas created the nonprofit adoption agency to blend legal expertise with compassionate, family centered care. “Irene wanted to walk alongside families through every step of the adoption journey,” shares Executive Director Jyotika Acharya. “Today, that vision has grown into a team of well rounded social workers and staff who provide support for children and families of every background, belief, and identity.”

Based in Marietta, St. Nick’s Kids offers a full range of services for both domestic and international placements: home studies with education and training, birth parent assessments, child background studies, ICPC processing, and post placement supervision. “Our dedicated team supports expectant parents, adoptive families, and children with respect, transparency, and integrity throughout every step of the adoption process,” Acharya emphasizes.

The agency’s mission is clear: to build loving families through compassionate, ethical, and professional adoption services.

Adoption is rewarding, but not without its challenges. Families may face grief, attachment struggles, long wait times, financial pressures, and complex legal steps. “Open adoption dynamics, cultural or identity questions, and social stigma can add further stress,” notes Acharya, “but preparation, counseling, and staying connected with adoption professionals can make all the difference.”

One adoptive couple shared their gratitude: “St. Nick's assigned an awesome social worker named Melisa White to guide our process. She was the consummate professional. She left no stone unturned, while keeping us on track to complete the adoption. It was a lot of work and yet Melisa was most gracious and a calming presence through the entire process.”

For anyone considering adoption, Acharya offers encouragement: “Feeling unsure is normal, and reaching out to St. Nick’s Kids is a supportive first step toward guidance, resources, and community on this meaningful path.”

“Through it all, St. Nick's Kids have become like family and they were the perfect adoption agency to help us grow our family.” — Domestic adoptive parent

Begins with YOU A SEASON TO SEE THE UNSEEN

The holidays have a way of calling us back to what matters most—faith, family, compassion, and the quiet but powerful act of giving. As lights go up and calendars fill, there are still many who sit in silence, carrying burdens too heavy to bear alone. But what if this season, you could be the spark that changes everything for someone else?

The founders of City Lifestyle, through their private foundation, are once again launching its annual Christmas Giving Campaign—a heartfelt effort to seek out and support individuals and families who have quietly fallen through the cracks. The mission is simple: to bring light, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.

Since its beginning just four years ago, this initiative has grown from a humble idea into a life-changing movement. Last Christmas alone, more than 200 families across the country received unexpected support—financial relief, but also something even more powerful.

“We don’t just send checks,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”

Together with City Lifestyle President Matthew Perry, Steven has helped shape this into a tradition that goes far beyond charity. “This is about community,” Matthew adds. “We believe we’ve been blessed, so now we get to be a blessing.”

Every story begins with a nomination. Often, it’s a neighbor, coworker, friend, or teacher—someone who’s been quietly carrying too much for too long. One past recipient, after receiving unexpected support during a time of deep personal struggle, wrote:

SCAN TO NOMINATE

“We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”

“Beyond the very practical solution of receiving funds to fix my car, this thing you guys worked together to do is bigger than that. I carry the Christmas card you sent in my purse. When things get really hard, I pull it out and remember what it felt like to be seen. That card represents hope— that change for the better is possible. I’m not sure how many people get to carry hope around in their purse. But I do.”

Another wrote in after her husband was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer and unable to work:

“This support has blessed our family not only financially, but emotionally and spiritually as we trust God to meet our needs throughout this difficult time. Thank you to our anonymous friend and to your foundation. What a joy and gift to be part of God’s family!”

Each year brings countless stories like these—real lives touched by simple acts of kindness. Some use the funds to pay overdue bills, others to afford groceries, medication, or repairs. But no matter the circumstance, the impact is the same: hope is restored.

This season, you have the opportunity to be part of that. The campaign is now open to nominations—completely confidential and prayerfully considered. Whether it’s someone battling illness, facing unemployment, or just in need of a helping hand, you can bring them a moment of grace that will ripple far beyond Christmas morning.

“Knowing my mom was chosen filled my heart with indescribable joy,” said another past recipient. “Your generosity doesn’t just brighten her life; it inspires hope and faith in all of us. It enables her to stay in her home and get back on her feet.”

Nominations are open from November 1st to December 5th, 2025. To submit someone you know, simply scan the QR code or visit @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the nomination form in the bio.

This holiday season, let’s give more than gifts. Let’s give each other the gift of being seen. Because sometimes, the smallest gesture becomes someone’s greatest miracle.
