McLemore Resort
WHERE ELEVATION MEETS ASPIRATION: A GOLF AND RESORT EXPERIENCE
Mountain top hiking trails
Cloudland Hotel
Under two hours north of Atlanta lies a mountaintop escape where heritage and hospitality converge into unforgettable experiences: McLemore Resort. Perched on the edge of Lookout Mountain, McLemore is not just a destination—it’s for those who crave the soul of sport and the spirit of luxury.
GOLF THAT MOVES YOU—LITERALLY AND SPIRITUALLY
There are two: The Highlands, soon-to-be-unveiled The Keep, each distinct and designed with intention. The Highlands course, renowned for its cliffside 18th hole—repeatedly named one of the top 20 finishing holes in the world—is a strategic marvel. Meanwhile, The Keep in preview play, will debut August 2025. It has already drawn national acclaim, fueling global intrigue.
Crafted by Rees Jones and Bill Bergin, The Keep represents a new chapter in course architecture: vast, windswept, and breathtaking. Utilizing natural topography, it balances challenge and accessibility, featuring wide fairways, elevated tees, and a layout that rewards strategic play. “We call it an aspirational golf experience,” says EVP Charlie Rymer, Georgia Tech two-time
All-American and former PGA Tour pro. “It’s designed to test the best and welcome newcomers with open arms.”
The course’s turf reflects bold innovation, The Keep is the first full-course in the world to feature Stadium Zoysia—a luxury turf renowned for its exceptional performance and aesthetic appeal.
A RESORT BUILT ON VISION—AND LOVE
The evolution of McLemore is as inspiring as its views. Scenic Land Company transformed the site with a vision that required investment and a passionate team to bring it to life.
Enter Mike Burton, President of McLemore. With experience leading luxury properties, Burton oversaw the 2024 openings of both Cloudland Hotel and The Keep. “We opened over $250 million of investment in a single year,” he says. “And it never felt stressful—it felt purposeful.”
Burton leads like a conductor, coordinating everything from agronomy and culinary to spa and homeowner services. “Our culture is simple,” he says. “Smile and have fun. People come here to feel good, and we surround them with a team that cares.”
The Keep CONTINUED >
THE GREAT REVEAL: MORE THAN JUST GOLF
At Cloudland Hotel, guests are greeted with “The Great Reveal”—a grand entry that opens to a sweeping vista of McLemore Cove, a national historic district bordered by Pigeon Mountain. It’s a moment that stops visitors in their tracks.
While golf is the crown jewel, Cloudland is the soul of the mountain. Opened in 2024 as part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, Cloudland blends comfort, cuisine, and curated experiences.
The hotel has quickly garnered national praise in Southern Living, HGTV, and USA Today, placing it among the Southeast’s most sought-after escapes. Its design is modern yet grounded in the landscape, inviting guests to rest and indulge.
At the hotel's heart is Auld Alliance , McLemore’s signature dining experience. A tribute to the historic bond between France and Scotland, this upscale restaurant offers a menu that combines European culinary sophistication with Southern warmth.
Guests also enjoy The Creag, McLemore’s vibrant restaurant and cocktail bar, a tranquil spa, a heated cliff-edge infinity pool, and terraces inviting yoga at sunrise or drinks at sunset.
Cloudland is also becoming a premier destination for luxury weddings, events, and executive retreats. With panoramic views, multiple venues, and a seasoned team, events here feel timeless.
“We see couples from Atlanta checking in on a Friday,” says Burton.
“By Sunday, they feel like they’ve been gone a week. It’s that immersive.”
Even the name McLemore is steeped in heritage. The resort overlooks McLemore Cove, named after the Scottish McLemore family who settled the region in the 1700s and married into the Cherokee Nation. Storyboards in the clubhouse share the life of John McLemore, a Cherokee Chief and war hero. “Our logo is a Celtic cross blended with the bloom of a Cherokee dogwood,” Rymer explains. “It symbolizes our past and the land’s sacred nature.”
The Keep’s name has meaning, evoking fortified castles, ancient Christian symbols, and the idea of protecting what matters most.
“There’s soul here,” says Burton. “This isn’t just a course or a resort—it’s a place that grounds you.” McLemore’s 20-year plan is shaping a lasting legacy.
McLemore offers something rare: space to breathe, beauty to absorb, and an experience to remember.
It’s time to elevate your hospitality experience. It’s time to discover McLemore.

The trip of a lifetime for some of those that sacrificed so very much
Roswell Rotary Honor Air Leader Alicia Hughes announced the Honor Air trip to Washington, DC, would include 89 veterans, “Guardians” were assigned to each Veteran - mine was Sandy Buhler, and the Roswell Police, EMT’s, a doctor, and other security personnel, totaling 145. The trip was to begin at 4:15 am and end around 10:45 pm the same day. Three 3 buses departed Roswell Area Park and drove by a large U.S. flag hung by the Roswell Fire Department boom-ladder truck. The bus was escorted by numerous blue light police motorcycles to airport. To our surprise, and amazement the American Legion Patriot Guard provided several members to greet us there surrounded by flags and other memorabilia. Airport staff and service providers were out on the tarmac, as well as the American Legion flag bearers providing smiles and thumps-up – it was an excellent welcome home completely contrasting to what we didn’t get upon our return back in the 60’s and 70’s – WELCOME HOME!!
When we boarded the chartered American Airlines plane, it was noticed that the interior was adorned with State flags over the various seats, as well as American flags, and such. Around 7:00 a.m. our flight departed and we were asked to look outside both sides of the plane. Fire

trucks on both sides were firing a volume of water over the aircraft as a salute to us – HONORABLE. When we arrived at Reagan airport in Washington DC, to our astonishment we were greeted with applause, laughter, high-fives, a red-carpet welcome from the staff and awaiting well-wishers. We were to make a "surprise trip" first and then visit the World War II Memorial, the Vietnam and Korean Memorials, and maybe a visit to the Iwo Jima Memorial after we visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Changing of the Guard at 5:00, followed by a bus tour of the Arlington National Cemetery. That "surprise visit" was a tour of the U. S. Navy Academy in Annapolis, MD! A grand-daughter of one of the veteran attendees was a midshipman at the Navy Academy. I was truly impressed with Academy and its history and grandeur! Next we travelled to The Vietnam Memorial – The Wall That Heals – it was emotional for most all of us. While touring this hallowed place of quiet
and somber honor, many checked the walls for names of those that never returned from whom they knew, or were familiar with. Dave checking for his former Platoon Sergeant, Staff Sergeant Edward Crooks, who died in August 1966 in Company “A”, 7th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine Division in I Corps, one of the 133 KIA’s his Battalion lost during that war, and of Dave during his first tour in Vietnam as a Combat Engineer. Afterwards we toured the Korean War Memorial which was quiet, solemn and chill provoking. We boarded the buses for the Arlington Cemetery next. We saw Rows of veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice and at the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier we witnessed the Changing Of The Guard, which was a sight to behold. At this juncture I want to say
“Thank You” in a shoutout voice to my friend, and fellow attendee, Tony Gasper, Commandant, Marine Corps League, Lance Corporal Skip Wells Detachment 647 (Marietta) for being kind enough to push my wheel chair throughout this very fast paced adventure, as he literally ran up the hill to position us for the Guard Changing. If you have not attended the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in my humble opinion, it certainly should be on your bucket list to do so – so very solemly moving. Time for our flight, the bus driver was talented enough to do a drive by of the Iwo Jima Memorial. When entering the Reagan Airport once again to our astonishment we were greeted with applause, laughter, high-fives, a red-carpet welcome from the Airport staff and awaiting well-wishers. Absolutely breathtaking.
It was a tiring day, and the flight back to Hartsfield International Airport and the bus trip back to Roswell was filled with naps. Upon arriving at the Roswell Area Park we were met with flag waving family and friends and a Welcome Home sign. And for me, to top if off, the wheel chair that had been provided for my journey was gifted to me – I stand amazed, thankful and humbled, and we were presented with a Roswell Rotary Honor Air Challenge Coin as well. Tony Gasper and I presented our Guardian, Sandy Buhler, with a Marine Corps League, Lance Corporal Skip Wells Detachment 647 (Marietta) Challenge Coin, and as the Past President of Chapter One, GVVA I presented her with one of our Challenge Coins as well – she was touched.
The words “Thank You So Very Much” are totally insufficient and inadequate for this trip of a lifetime. My deepest gratitude to Alicia Hughes, Sandy Buhler, Jana Burns, Mike Neilson, Gene Beckham, Jack Wyche and Mr. Chrzanowski (representing his deceased son Alex, the provider of funds for this expensive $180,000 trip). SEMPER FI TO ALL!!

ROSWELL ROTARY DOING GOOD IN COSTA RICA
Mission trip included vision tests for eyeglasses, basketball goal replacement and to provide backpacks, soccer balls, pencils and erasers.
Twenty-five years ago three Roswell Rotarians went on a mission trip to the small town of Puerto Carrillo situated on the Pacific Coast of Guanacaste over 3 hours from the Liberia, Costa Rica airport. Elwyn Gaissert, Bob Hagan and Ron Redner were tasked with helping the town and provide eyeglasses to those with impaired vision. The town had just been created the previous year on July 23, 1999.
Roswell Rotary returned on many occasions during the next 25 years. On one occasion they built a basketball court in the park and a beautiful playground jungle gym. Today Puerto Carrillo population is mainly local residents and maintains an authentically Costa Rican atmosphere with about 500 full-time residents while the district has a population of around 1,800 people.
The local government had asked Roswell Rotary to replace the basketball backboards that had deteriorated over the years. Nine Roswell Rotarians went on this mission trip with 3 goals. The first goal was to provide free eyeglasses. We tested almost 120 people over 2 days and they were thrilled to see better. The second goal was the installation of two new basketball goals purchased with a Rotary grant. On the basketball court we were greeted by Hojancha Mayor Veronica Campos, Second Mayor Adalberto Rodriquez and Engineer David Cabezas who expressed their gratitude for our donation. The basketball court has been constantly in use since the
installation of the new basketball goals! The third goal of the mission was to visit the Puerto Carrillo Elementary School and provide school supplies. Each child received a sturdy and well-designed backpack and a Spanish to English Dictionary. The school was also given pencils, animal shaped erasers and soccer balls that were immediately put to good use! The children were exceptionally healthy and attractive in their uniforms and made us feel welcome.
We cannot talk about this trip without mentioning Jackie Mora who has been the primary contact for 25 years. She arranged accommodations, transportation, meals, and contact with the local residents some of whom who were her relatives. She also had the bad fortune of being the one to get the school supplies released from Customs. Not easy! Fate McKinney was the Roswell Rotary Trip Leader and has been on many mission trips to Puerto Carrillo since 2001. The eyeglass check-in team consisted of Bob Hagan & Karen Schwank, Ron Redner did the eye exams, Betty Price, MD, provided a wellness check during the vision tests. The team of Nancy Alterman (Roswell Rotary President), Sandy Buhler, Mickey Deaton, and Elwyn Gassiert provided the eyeglasses based on the prescription. Jackie Mora, Nataly Mora, and Jill Hicks were our translators. Costa Rica was an amazing experience and everyone we met welcomed us warmly and we returned home changed by the joy of making a difference!

Roswell’s Brent Stevens, Great Grandson of the Baseball Legend Shares the Personal Side of an American Icon
ARTICLE BY TRAN BUI SMITH
PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARY HEBERT PHOTOGRAPHY
KEEPING BABE RUTH’S
LEGACY ALIVE
Being the great grandson of one of the most legendary figures in baseball and American pop culture gives Roswell resident Brent Stevens a unique perspective. Brent is the grandson of Babe Ruth’s daughter, Julia Ruth Stevens, and has dedicated much of his adult life to preserving and sharing the legacy of the man affectionately known as “The Babe.”
For Brent, Babe Ruth is much more than a name in the record books. “It’s been a great honor and privilege,” he says. “In many baseball circles, he’s still considered the best of all time. He hasn’t played a Major League game in 90 years, and yet he still holds some notable records.”
Ruth had two daughters: Dorothy and Julia. Brent’s father, Tom Stevens, is Julia’s only child, and Brent’s sister is Amanda Dandro.
Growing up, Brent often heard stories from his grandmother, who was adopted by Babe Ruth and affectionately called him “Daddy.” “While I never met him, he passed in 1948, visits with my grandmother gave me a chance to get to know him through her.
Babe & Julia Boxing 1933
Awarding Babe Ruth Home Run Award 2008
I heard great stories and learned what a special, kindhearted person he was off the field. He was definitely one of a kind, and I’m proud to be his great-grandson.”
Brent helps fans connect with the Ruth legacy through collectibles, memorabilia and public appearances. He also launched the website BabeRuthCentral.com and Facebook page Babe Ruth Central, a space where fans can share stories and celebrate the man behind the legend. Beyond that, he created “Babe Ruth Inspirations” T-shirts featuring some of Ruth’s most motivational quotes and even brought his famous sweet relish recipe to market for a time.
Now, Brent is bringing the newly released book Out of the Mouth of Babe to life with author Kelly Bennett. Packed with memorable “Babe-isms,” rare photos and lesser-known facts, the book offers a fresh, inspiring look at the man behind the myth.
It’s not just about baseball stats or home run counts. “As impressive as Babe was on the field, he was equally impressive off of it,” Brent shares. “He loved children. There are so many stories of him visiting orphanages and hospitals, signing balls for kids after games, even buying rounds of hot dogs and sodas and hanging with them in the bleachers. When
I meet older fans who met him as kids, their faces still light up remembering that moment.”
One part of Babe Ruth’s story that Brent takes particular pride in is his inclusive spirit. “He was very open-minded in a time when racism was still pretty rampant,” Brent says, noting Ruth’s friendships with African American icons like Joe Louis and Bill “Bojangles” Robinson. Ruth often played exhibition games against Negro League players, even when it wasn’t popular with baseball leadership. Some historians believe that support may have cost him a managing job after his playing career.
Babe Ruth’s story began long before the spotlight. He grew up in an Industrial School for Boys in Baltimore from age 6 to 19, apprenticing to be a tailor until he was pulled out to play for the Baltimore Orioles. Within a few years, he went from an unknown kid in a boys’ home to one of the biggest sports stars in the country.
“He was the definition of a rags-to-riches story,” Brent says. “He was a bigger-than-life individual who really connected with people on a personal level. He represents some of the best and most iconic aspects of American history.”
When it comes to legacy… Babe Ruth still knocks it out of the park.
“As impressive as Babe Ruth was on the field, he was equally impressive off of it. He was a bigger-than-life individual who really connected with people on a personal level. He represents some of the best and most iconic aspects of American history.” Brent Stevens, Great Grandson

HOW OUTDOOR LIVING SPACES ARE ELEVATING HOME VALUE AND LIFESTYLE
Beyond the Back Door:
ARTICLE BY HELEN LOIACONO
“It’s no secret that the way we live in our homes has changed.” -Helen Loiacono
It’s no secret that the way we live in our homes has changed. More than ever, homeowners are craving comfort, versatility, and a strong connection to the outdoors, that’s exactly why outdoor living spaces have moved to the top of buyers’ wish lists.
What used to be an afterthought—a patch of grass and a basic grill—is now becoming a seamless extension of the home. From covered patios with full kitchens to cozy firepit lounges perfect for cool Georgia evenings, these spaces are redefining how we entertain, relax, and even work from home.
WHY OUTDOOR LIVING IS IN DEMAND
Over the past few years, we’ve all spent more time at home, and that shift has changed what we value in our spaces. Outdoor areas are no longer “niceto-haves”—they’re lifestyle necessities,. offering a mental and emotional reset, a safe space for gathering, and a way to enjoy nature without leaving your property.
In my work across Roswell, Alpharetta, and the greater Atlanta area, I’ve noticed a clear trend: homes with well-designed outdoor spaces often sell fast and for more. A thoughtfully upgraded backyard can boost your property value by 8–10% or more, especially if it creates a true “outdoor room.”
FEATURES THAT BUYERS LOVE
When buyers walk into a home and see a beautifully curated outdoor space, the response is instant. It feels luxurious, but also deeply livable. Some of the most sought-after features include:
• Covered patios or pergolas that provide shade and style.
• Outdoor kitchens complete with built-in grills, sinks, and even pizza ovens.
• Fire pits or fireplaces, which add ambiance and encourage gathering year-round.
• Smart lighting and sound systems for atmosphere and entertainment.
• Lush landscaping with native plants or edible gardens.
• Flexible zones for dining, lounging, and even remote work.
The best part? You don’t need a huge yard or a massive budget. Even small spaces can be transformed with intentional design.
PLANNING YOUR PERFECT OUTDOOR SPACE
If you’re thinking about creating or upgrading your outdoor living area, here are a few things to keep in mind:
• Start with your lifestyle: Do you want a quiet coffee nook, a spot to host game-day parties, or a play space for kids?
• Blend form with function: Choose materials and layouts that work with your home’s architecture and flow.
• Add comfort and style: Think throw pillows, rugs, planters, and string lights—little touches that make a big impact
• Consider the seasons: Add shade elements for the summer and heat sources (like a firepit) for winter months.
• Check with your HOA or city before starting any construction involving hardscaping, plumbing, gas lines, or electrical.Outdoor Living & Real EstateAs a Realtor, I can tell you: great outdoor living photos make a listing stand out. These spaces photograph beautifully and create emotional connections with buyers who envision themselves making memories there.I’ve seen homes sell faster because of a cozy firepit area, a twinkle-lit pergola, or even a beautifully styled back deck. It’s not just about square footage anymore—it’s about lifestyle.
• Whether you're getting ready to list or simply want to fall in love with your home all over again, upgrading your outdoor living space is a smart move. It’s one of the few home projects that delivers both personal joy and real ROI.

DISCOVERING DUBROVNIK and Beyond
Explore stunning seascapes, historic villages, and hidden gems along Croatia’s breathtaking southern Adriatic coast.

Picturesque coastline of Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Adriatic," is a city that truly defies time. Enclosed within her ancient limestone walls, polished marble streets, and baroque architecture; terracotta rooftops gleam against the backdrop of the deep blue Adriatic Sea. While the Old City’s beautifully preserved medieval grandeur draws adventurers from around the world; there’s a guarded elegance beyond its stone gates and the ever-watchful eye of St. Blaise, the patron saint of Dubrovnik.
Perched on the slopes, just steps from the UNESCO Old City of Dubrovnik, Hotel Excelsior was my quiet, yet luxurious sanctuary with a front-row seat to the Adriatic. From my sea-view room, I watched the morning sun spill across the walls of the ancient city and settle on Lokrum Island, just a stone’s throw away. I began my walk early in the morning as I climbed the walls high above the rooftops of the iconic Old City. The light cast a golden hue over the stone ramparts as the city slowly stirred to life. Below, narrow alleyways echoed with the quiet clatter of café conversation and shopkeepers preparing for a long, tourist filled day. From this height, Dubrovnik feels both intimate and grand, it is an architectural marvel framed by the sea and mountains. The medieval city unfolds like a living postcard. Once a formidable stronghold, the city’s ancient walls and battlements were built to protect against invasion. Vigilant sentries once patrolled the city walls, scanning the horizon from towering lookouts. Today, those same stone paths offer breathtaking panoramic views, as visitors walk in the footsteps of soldiers long passed, immersed in the centuries of history that linger in every stone. Dubrovnik’s rooftop world is no longer just a place of defense; it’s alive with vibrant cafés and open-air restaurants. It’s a place where cannon-studded walls now frame unforgettable sunsets, and every step tells a story.
After a day of wandering Dubrovnik’s cobbled streets, alleyways and rooftops, I returned to Excelsior to sink into the spa’s Steam bath, Roman bath, and Finnish sauna; melting away the remainder of day’s fatigue. A swim in the luscious indoor pool felt as if I was floating between the centuries. Nikoleta, my amazingly talented massage therapist, artfully swept away the last of my lingering stresses and concerns. Staying at the Excelsior wasn’t just luxurious it was deeply

grounding, a graceful pause between discovery and reflection.
My next adventure would take me to Ston, a historic town located about an hour’s drive north of Dubrovnik famed for its medieval walls and salt pans. Nestled on the Pelješac Peninsula, it’s also renowned for oyster farming in nearby Mali Ston Bay, offering visitors rich history, natural beauty, and unforgettable coastal flavors. Be sure to visit Bota Šare for some of the freshest seafood and perhaps what was the best oyster I have ever eaten. Nestled in the lush Konavle Valley just outside Dubrovnik, Winery Botaro delivers a truly authentic Croatian wine experience rooted in over 600 years of family tradition. Guests are invited to sample estategrown wines and house-made delicacies like local cheeses, cured meats, and traditional sweets, offering a delicious glimpse into the region’s rich culinary heritage. Together, these highlights capture the spirit of southern Croatia—timeless, authentic, and unforgettable. The rich history of Croatia isn’t just preserved—it’s lived, felt, and shared with everyone who wanders. Dubrovnik pulses with creativity, flavor, and quiet grandeur, yet time seems suspended as if the city were both living and eternal, unchanged and forever-evolving all at once.
