WOMEN’S WELLNESS ENHANCED AT OPC! ARTICLE RENEE CORTRIGHT

T

he OPC promotes the health and independence of women ages 50 and up by connecting them to vital community programs. Offerings include personal enrichment and art, fitness, aquatic, social and travel plus support services including Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Services, transportation and more. Women at OPC benefit at the highest rate, representing 64 percent of registered members. Compared with their peers, active women enjoy improved levels of health, social interaction and life satisfaction and this is evident in the day to day activities at the center. Fitness is fun! The most popular women’s activities at OPC are fitness oriented and include therapy and lap pool offerings like Aqua Zumba, aerobics, healthy joints and swim lessons. The gym bustles with pickleball—the fastest growing sport in America, spinning classes and volleyball and the walking track is always busy with over 30,000 women walking on it throughout the year. Enrich your life! Just as women’s bodies need physical exercise to keep

them in the best possible shape, the brain needs exercise to remain useful. Enrichment opportunities include lectures, learning a new language or taking a computer class. Create pottery, learn the art of Chinese brush painting or attend a class in the woodshop. Socialization! Women love to socialize, and the women’s luncheons are wildly popular with guest speakers on topics of interest to women every month. Staying social correlates to better health, less loneliness and more life satisfaction. The women who travel with OPC have embraced the opportunity to see the world and make new friends along the way. Try something new this spring at the OPC. The facility is open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturdays. OPC is located at 650 Letica Drive, Rochester. Visit OPCSeniorCenter.org for a full listing of offerings. Renee Cortright, OPC’s executive director, welcomes Rochester, Rochester Hill’s and Oakland Township residents 50 and up to become members of the premier 90,000-square-feet activity center!
