Health and Wellness Month:

Savoring The Season
October is one of our favorite months of the year. Football and post-season baseball are in full swing, the late-summer heat is giving way to cooler temps, and we’re settling into the start of the holiday season. This issue is all about savoring the food and drinks that make fall such a special time.
We’re excited to feature three local culinary businesses that prove tradition and renewal can coexist beautifully. With new generations stepping in and fresh ideas on the table, these businesses are thriving while still honoring their roots.

Beyond our local culinary spotlights, you’ll find valuable insights on how women can approach nutrition in the later chapters of life. Our expert, Dr. Meagan, shares practical tips and thoughtful recommendations to help you navigate this stage with strength, health, and vitality.
And as much as we celebrate flavors, recipes, and a perfectly paired glass of wine, we know the real magic of a meal lies in the company. This month’s issue is especially meaningful as we dedicate it to the memory of Lesley’s father, Bruce H. Rollo. We shared countless meals and memories with him over the years, and his absence at the table is deeply felt.
Our hope is that this season, you will find joy not just in what’s on your plate or in your glass, but in the laughter, love, and conversations that surround them.
With full hearts,

Two Longtime Friends Revive Old Town Patio, Blending Scratch-Made BBQ, Local Brews, and a Community Spirit Welcoming Everyone from Kids to Generations of Locals.
Hometown
Revival
When best friends Riley Montz and Zach Lyall decided to open a bar, they were chasing a dream that had been 20 years in the making. Riley had built a career in restaurants and Zach in the film industry, but both shared a love for great hospitality and the South Bay community. “What else is a little boy’s dream but to open a bar?” Zach laughed.
Charming and welcoming, Old Town Patio sits proudly on Richmond Street in El Segundo.

Living in El Segundo and deeply invested in the local scene, the pair focuses on finding spaces that have been community fixtures and making them ready for the next generation. “People say things like, ‘Thank you for fixing this. This is where I met my wife,’” Zach said. “That’s what gets us excited.”
When Zach and Riley walked into Old Town Patio for the first time, they felt a “pioneer town” energy. The vintage signage and open-air layout spoke to them instantly, evoking a sense of stepping back in time. They felt that an all-scratch BBQ kitchen would be a perfect food fit for the atmosphere. Since Riley and Zach are self-described front of house people, they brought in Dave Williamson to be their Pit Master. Known for his national BBQ and comedy shows — as well as coaching the local high school water polo team — Dave brought smoking expertise to the kitchen.
For Riley and Zach, food is an important part of the story, but even more essential is their goal of preserving the community’s legacy spots.
“Growing up here, you need that place where you go to dinner with your grandpa every week,” Zach explained. They see Old Town Patio as both a living room for the neighborhood and a landmark that future generations will know by name. “The goal is making this a place I can come to with my family on the weekends and be proud of it,” Zach expressed.
A SPACE FOR EVERYONE
The layout offers something rare in the South Bay: a great communal space with excellent food, live music, and room for families, friends, and longtime locals. Zach and Riley added features for kids — chalkboards, games, and space to roam — without losing the vibe that draws in devoted regulars.

Guests savor BBQ bites and refreshing drinks on Old Town Patio’s iconic outdoor patio.
Fall-off-the-bone ribs slathered in homemade BBQ sauce, paired with the smoked brisket.
"THE THINGS THAT GET US REALLY EXCITED ARE FINDING LEGACY PLACES AND REVITALIZING THEM TO BRING THEM BACK TO THE COMMUNITY."

Every visit to the patio is filled with great energy and "Pioneer Town" vibes.

“You can belly up to the bar with an old war vet, then come outside and have a beer while your kids play,” Zach said. “It’s a nice little harmony.” And don’t forget to experience some of Uncle Chico’s Smoked Chex Mix during your stay at the bar.
Sundays are “Sunday Fun Days,” with live bands and, of course, great BBQ. As the reputation for being a place for everyone grows, people are coming from all over the South Bay. The restaurant has long been a gathering spot for locals, and Zach and Riley’s focus on community is expanding that, which makes it a draw for Redondo Beach and other beach communities. The goal is to keep it fresh, fun, and rooted in the community.
A TASTE OF THE PATIO
While history and community drive the mission, the food is also phenomenal. The menu — all made from scratch, even the BBQ sauces — leans into smoked specialties. Favorites include the brisket sandwich, tri-tip, jalapeño burnt end sausage, and a brisket chili that regulars love.
In addition to the classics, patrons can also try something new. Zach recommends the fruit and pineapple grilled cheese melt that “sounds weird but is delicious.” He also says people won’t want to miss their smoked buttered Chex Mix or pork beans, made with a secret recipe.
Old Town Patio makes three BBQ sauces in-house so patrons can choose between a Carolina Gold, a coffee-infused blend, and a collaboration with El Segundo Brewing Company.
Along with brisket or tri-tip smothered in the house-made BBQ sauce, patrons can enjoy a beer

from El Segundo Brewery, Common Space Brewery, or HopSaint Brewery. There are also domestic beers, a wine list, and cocktails on the way. There really is something for everyone!
LOOKING AHEAD
As Old Town Patio gets ready to enter its second year in the current iteration, Zach and Riley’s goal is to build upon its deeply rooted history in the El Segundo community. Patrons can expect the best BBQ in the South Bay eaten alongside great bands and other fun events.
As for upcoming happenings, there will continue to be live music every weekend along with BBQ specials and more comedy nights. Follow Old Town Patio’s Instagram for details on weekly events.
In the end, what makes Old Town Patio special isn’t just the amazing BBQ or fun atmosphere — it’s the way Riley and Zach have revived a place that holds meaning for the community.
It’s more than a bar, more than a restaurant — it’s a piece of the neighborhood’s history, retold for a new generation.
Live music turns Sundays into "Sunday Fun Days" at Old Town Patio.

Menopause Nutrition Made Simple
ARTICLE BY LESLEY A. ROLLO
PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Navigating nutrition during perimenopause and menopause can feel like trying to read a new cookbook in a foreign language. Hormones shift, metabolism changes, and many common diet rules no longer seem to apply. To help clear up the confusion and bust some myths, we turned to Dr. Meagan Marcuccilli, menopause specialist, for her expert take on the foods and drinks that truly support women through this transformative phase.
DR. MEAGAN MARCUCCILLI REVEALS NUTRITION STRATEGIES TO HELP WOMEN THRIVE, NOT JUST SURVIVE, HORMONAL SHIFTS.

Dr. Meagan fuels her day with her signature protein-packed coffee.

REDONDO BEACH CITY LIFESTYLE: FROM YOUR PERSPECTIVE, WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT NUTRIENTS FOR WOMEN IN PERIMENOPAUSE OR MENOPAUSE TO FOCUS ON?
DR. MEAGAN MARCUCCILLI: During this transitional period, certain nutrients become particularly crucial for maintaining health and managing symptoms. The top priorities include calcium and vitamin D for bone health, protein for preserving muscle mass, omega-3 fatty acids for heart and brain health, B vitamins for energy metabolism and mood support, magnesium for sleep and muscle function, and fiber for digestive health and weight management. These nutrients work synergistically to address the specific challenges women face during hormonal changes.
RBCL: HOW DO HORMONAL CHANGES DURING THIS TIME AFFECT THE WAY OUR BODIES PROCESS AND RESPOND TO FOOD?
DR. MEAGAN: The decline in estrogen during perimenopause and menopause can impact metabolism and body composition. Women often experience increased insulin resistance, making it easier to store fat, particularly around the midsection. The metabolic rate naturally slows, meaning fewer calories are needed to maintain weight. Additionally, changes in hunger and satiety hormones can increase cravings, especially for carbohydrates and comfort foods. Understanding these shifts helps explain why maintaining weight becomes more challenging and why nutrition strategies may need adjustment.
CONTINUED

DR. MEAGAN’S PROTEIN COFFEE
INGREDIENTS
• Fresh espresso shot (one or two!)
• Scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder (I prefer whey protein)
• 1 cup milk of choice ( I like almond)
DIRECTIONS
1. Mix protein powder with milk. For best results use a hand blender
2. Add espresso
3. Pour over ice and enjoy!
RBCL: WHY IS PROTEIN SO CRITICAL, AND HOW MUCH SHOULD WOMEN AIM FOR EACH DAY? WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GO-TO SOURCES?
DR. MEAGAN: Protein becomes increasingly important during menopause due to accelerated muscle mass loss, which naturally occurs with aging but intensifies during this hormonal transition. Adequate protein intake helps preserve lean muscle mass, supports bone health, aids in weight management by increasing satiety, and helps maintain metabolic rate.
Current guidelines suggest postmenopausal women should aim for 1.2-1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily, significantly higher than the standard recommendation for younger adults. For a 140-pound woman, this translates to approximately 75-100 grams of protein daily. Excellent sources include lean meats, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes, quinoa, nuts, and Greek yogurt. Spreading protein intake throughout the day, with 25-30 grams per meal, optimizes muscle protein synthesis.
RBCL: IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET ENOUGH CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D FOR BONE HEALTH THROUGH DIET ALONE, OR DO MOST WOMEN NEED SUPPLEMENTS?
DR. MEAGAN: Meeting calcium and vitamin D needs through diet alone can be challenging but isn't impossible. Women over 50 need 1,200mg of calcium and 800-1,000 IU of vitamin D daily. Calcium-rich foods include dairy products, leafy greens like kale and collard greens, canned salmon with bones, sardines, almonds, and fortified plant-based milks.
Vitamin D is more difficult to obtain from food sources alone, as it's naturally found in very few foods. Fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified foods provide some vitamin D, but most women benefit from supplementation, especially those with limited sun exposure. A blood test can help determine if supplementation is necessary and at what dosage.
RBCL: THERE'S A LOT OF BUZZ AROUND LOW-CARB AND KETO DIETS. SHOULD WOMEN CUT OUT CARBS DURING THIS STAGE OF LIFE?
DR. MEAGAN: Completely eliminating carbohydrates isn't recommended. While reducing refined carbohydrates and added sugars is beneficial, complex carbohydrates play important roles in hormone production, brain function, and energy levels. Severe carb restriction can worsen common menopausal symptoms like sleep disturbances, mood swings, and fatigue by affecting cortisol levels and neurotransmitter production.
A better approach focuses on choosing nutrient-dense, fiber-rich carbohydrates like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes while limiting processed and sugary foods. This provides steady energy, supports gut health, and helps manage blood sugar fluctuations.
RBCL: WHAT MENOPAUSE DIET MYTHS OR TRENDS SHOULD WOMEN BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT?
DR. MEAGAN: Several nutrition myths can mislead women during menopause. The belief that extreme calorie restriction will overcome menopausal weight gain often backfires by
further slowing metabolism and increasing muscle loss. Another common misconception is that all soy products are harmful, when moderate intake of whole soy foods may actually provide benefits for some women.
Be cautious of "menopause detoxes," expensive superfood supplements promising miracle results, and restrictive elimination diets without medical supervision. Quick-fix approaches rarely address the complex hormonal and metabolic changes occurring during this life stage.
RBCL: ARE THERE CERTAIN FOODS OR BEVERAGES THAT CAN HELP WITH HOT FLASHES, MOOD CHANGES, OR SLEEP DISTURBANCES?
DR. MEAGAN: Certain foods may help manage common menopausal symptoms, though individual responses vary. For hot flashes, some women find relief with foods containing plant compounds called phytoestrogens, found in flax seeds, sesame seeds, and moderate amounts of whole soy foods like tofu and edamame.
Omega-3 rich foods such as salmon, sardines, walnuts, and chia seeds may help with mood stability and reduce inflammation. For sleep support, foods rich in magnesium like leafy greens, almonds, and pumpkin seeds, or natural sources of melatonin like tart cherries, may be beneficial. Maintaining stable blood sugar through balanced meals can help prevent mood swings and energy crashes.
RBCL: HOW DO ALCOHOL, CAFFEINE, AND SUGARY DRINKS AFFECT MENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS?
DR. MEAGAN: These substances can significantly worsen menopausal symptoms. Alcohol disrupts sleep architecture, interferes with temperature regulation (increasing hot flashes), and negatively impacts bone health. Even small amounts can have amplified effects during this hormonal transition.
Caffeine sensitivity often increases during menopause, potentially triggering hot flashes, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Consider reducing intake or switching to decaffeinated options, especially in the afternoon and evening.
Sugary drinks and foods cause rapid blood sugar spikes followed by crashes, which can intensify mood swings, cravings, and fatigue. These effects are often more pronounced during menopause due to increased insulin resistance.
RBCL: WHAT'S ONE COMMON PANTRY OR REFRIGERATOR ITEM YOU WISH EVERY WOMAN OVER 40 WOULD SWAP OUT, AND WHAT WOULD YOU REPLACE IT WITH?
DR. MEAGAN: One impactful swap is replacing refined breakfast cereals with steel-cut oats topped with Greek yogurt, berries, and nuts. This change provides significantly more protein, fiber, and healthy fats while delivering steady energy throughout the morning. The increased protein helps with satiety and muscle preservation, while the fiber supports digestive health and blood sugar stability.
Other beneficial swaps include choosing whole grain bread over white bread, replacing sugary snacks with nuts and fruit, and substituting flavored yogurt with plain Greek yogurt that you can sweeten naturally with fruit.

RBCL: WHEN DINING OUT OR GOING TO SOCIAL EVENTS, WHAT STRATEGIES HELP WOMEN STAY ON TRACK WITHOUT FEELING DEPRIVED?
DR. MEAGAN: Maintaining healthy eating habits while enjoying social occasions requires planning and flexibility. Review restaurant menus online beforehand to identify healthier options. Eat a small protein-rich snack before events to avoid arriving overly hungry, which can lead to poor food choices.
At restaurants, focus on filling half your plate with vegetables, choosing grilled or baked proteins, and being mindful of portion sizes. Don't hesitate to ask for modifications like dressing on the side or steamed vegetables instead of fried sides.
Remember that social connections are vital for mental health during this life transition. One meal won't derail your progress, so focus on overall patterns rather than perfection. Enjoy the company and conversation while making reasonably healthy choices when possible.
Note: This information is for educational purposes and should not replace personalized medical advice. Consult with healthcare providers for individual recommendations.
Instead of skipping carbs, Dr. Meagan recommends fiber-packed options such as fresh fruits.
Welcome to Urban Palms
Decades of Catering Experience, Now Served in a Vibrant South Bay Event Venue and Café.
What began with ice luges, seafood towers, and flair bartending in the 1980s has grown into one of the South Bay’s most enduring hospitality stories. For more than four decades, the Fellows family has been at the heart of celebrations big and small, through their family business, Critics’ Choice Catering. Today, that legacy continues with their newest venture, Urban Palms, an event venue that houses the Palm Court Café.
The story starts when Michelle Fellows moved from New York to Manhattan Beach with her bartending company, Hey Bartender. At the same time, Scott Fellows was dazzling event guests with Scott’s Seafood Show, famous for extravagant raw bars and ice displays. When the two met at a Redondo Beach Chamber mixer, they combined talents—and launched Critics’ Choice Catering in 1984.
Continuing the legacy, the Fellows family set their sights on expanding from catering to a permanent space. In September 2023, they took over the former Paradise restaurant at Pacific Pointe and transformed it into Urban Palms. For Scott and Michelle’s daughter Kaycie Fellows, owner of Urban Palms, the location carried a special resonance.
ARTICLE BY LESLEY A. ROLLO PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAVID KARTSONIS, BAKERS MAN PRODUCTIONS & AURELIA D'AMORE PHOTOGRAPHY
“It was pretty magical. I grew up my entire life coming here when it was Paradise,” Kaycie said. “I never imagined one day that I would get the keys and the ability to breathe fresh life into it, and to bring something that's never been brought to the South Bay before.”
Kaycie designed Urban Palms intentionally to be different. Unlike traditional hotel ballrooms, the 10,000-square-foot venue offers clean white walls, soaring ceilings, and porthole-style windows.
“It's not some cookie cutter ballroom,” Kaycie explained. “It's just a really solid blank canvas that allows you to create whatever it is that you're envisioning. There are no restrictions. People are able to bring in their own vendors. They're able to work outside the box.”
The space can host up to 300 guests and extend outdoors when needed, offering a truly flexible event experience. Urban Palms

Kaycie Fellows, owner of Urban Palms, adds the finishing touch to the cascading champagne tower.
accommodates weddings, corporate events, theme nights, community mixers, and more.
Beyond the venue itself, the Fellows family has built a strong multi-generational team. Scott and Michelle are semi-retired—Michelle in a CFO role, Scott as retired CEO—while Kaycie and her brother oversee creative direction, marketing, and operations.
“We have two dozen employees all living locally. That was a big goal for us, to hire from within the South Bay,” Kaycie said.
Food remains the centerpiece. Critics’ Choice Catering has long been known for scratch-made, globally inspired menus, and Urban Palms continues the tradition. “We have chefs that are internationally trained,”

Kaycie explained. “We're creating traditional African and Chinese cuisines, as well as beautiful, Puerto Rican and Mediterraneaninfused menus. So I think the beauty of having an international scratch kitchen is that there's no limitation to what you can do. The sky is truly the limit.”
That spirit of variety carries into both their signature dishes and casual café offerings. Urban Palms’ signature dishes include the Santa Maria marinated tri tip and chimichurri sauce. The Palm Court Café, located inside Urban Palms, keeps things approachable with casual specials like Taco Tuesdays with hand-pressed tortillas and Flatbread Thursdays fired in the brick oven. The café menu is priced between $5-$15.
Drinks get just as much attention. While Urban Palms awaits their beer and wine license, they allow clients to bring their own spirits for custom cocktails during events. The venue’s 50-foot seamless bar was designed with built-in wells, storage, and beautiful lighting to showcase both efficiency and flair. The Palms Pear

Flatbread Thursdays come alive with this fresh, warm flatbread straight from the fire brick oven.

Margarita—a mix of fresh pear, organic agave, smoked salt, and a dehydrated pear garnish—has quickly become a signature cocktail at events.
Beyond food and drinks, the memories created define Urban Palms. One of its first weddings came when a couple lost their venue to the California wildfires earlier this year. “It was just the most simple, elegant, and classy wedding,” Kaycie recalled. “What is so special about this property is that it is a very ‘less is more’ type of space.”
Another memory that left an indelible mark on Kaycie and her team was working with Wish Upon a Wedding, a nonprofit that organizes weddings for terminally ill brides. Urban Palms hosted a ceremony for a bride who had only months to live. “It was the most beautiful thing because she had the most gorgeous wedding ever,” expressed Kaycie. “We donated all of the food and all of the venue, and it was something that we'll never forget.”
Forty-one years after Critics’ Choice Catering began, the Fellows family continues to blend tradition with fresh ideas. The Palm Court Café is now a go-to for breakfast and lunch, and starting this fall, Urban Palms will host interactive dining nights such as “Salsa & Salsa,” where couples can learn to make salsas before hitting the dance floor. Future offerings will include
experiential chef nights, multi-course dining, and themed foodand-drink events.
Urban Palms has begun building seasonal traditions. They will again host a family friendly Christmas Fair in late November to kick off the holiday season, complete with decorated, 10-foot trees, a letter-writing-to-Santa station, a vendor village to buy locally crafted presents, a gift-wrapping station, a raffle with big prizes, and a festive buffet.
When she’s not creating menus and memorable events, Kaycie is happy to share her own foodie secret. It’s her go-to order at In-N-Out. “I do two patties with cheese and grilled onions. Then I get two pieces of lettuce, two tomatoes, onions, pickles, and chopped peppers on the side,” laughed Kaycie. “I build my own open face, protein style. I call them my protein bombs. That's my secret order.”
After more than four decades of hospitality, the Fellows family continues to do what they do best: making people feel at home. Urban Palms is their newest chapter, and for Kaycie and the team, the best memories are still ahead.
Palm Court Café, inside Urban Palms, is open Monday–Friday from 7:30 AM–2:30 PM, located at 889 W. 190th St., Gardena, near the 110 and 405 freeways.

How To Stay Festive And Healthy? Sure Thing
Halloween is typically filled to the brim with salt, sugar and carbs. It can be hard to stay on the nutrition wagon during spooky season, but there are plenty of fun ways to add a festive spin to favorite healthy dishes.

pumpkin FRUIT BOWL
With luck finding a melon or watermelon at the store, simply carve it like a jack-o-lantern and make the mouth large enough to have other sliced fruit emerging, such as cut pineapple, sliced grapes and apple chunks. Along the side, peel mini oranges and add a green stem to mimic pumpkins.
spooky CHARCUTERIE
These fan favorite boards can easily be kept healthy with some additions. Make any treat spooky with edible eyeballs. Adding them to a small snack such as mini bell peppers or grapes and strawberries is a fun way to stay on theme without sacrificing a healthy streak. Eyeball salami rolls also can be added, starting first with a green olive in the center, surrounded by a roll of mozzarella cheese and then surrounded by salami or even prosciutto.
stuffed PEPPERS
This fall staple easily can be incorporated into a fall gathering or Halloween night by carving jacko-lantern faces in orange peppers, and resuming a favorite recipe from there. Serving bread on the side? Use a skull or pumpkin shaped cookie cutter to re-shape it.
ghostly DIP
Hummus and pitas can be made scary in no time. Use a ghost shaped cookie cutter to shape pita bread, lightly toast and serve with red pepper hummus, which is usually orange in color.
jack-o-lantern VEGGIE TRAY
The easiest bet for a quick and healthy Halloween treat? You can’t go wrong with a veggie tray shaped like a jack-o-lantern. Use baby carrots as the base, and cucumber or celery to shape the mouth and stem. The eyes? Two round bowls of veggie dip.
TASTE OF HOME
AL HAMRA: A FAMILY LEGACY OF FLAVOR AND COMMUNITY.
ARTICLE BY LESLEY A. ROLLO
PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANETH TELLO AND NUDRAT SIDDIQUI

When Al Hamra opened in Redondo Beach in 2006, it was a leap of faith. Founder Naseem Siddiqui transformed a former coffee shop on Artesia Blvd. into Al Hamra, serving family recipes and pouring his love into every dish. At first, business was slow. “I had passion for the food, but I didn't have any experience,” said Naseem. With perseverance and community support, Al Hamra became a South Bay staple. Naseem’s magnetic personality helped too.
Fresh off the grill: beef kofta kebabs with rice, salad, hummus, and pita.
Naseem’s son, Fahad, joined the family business in 2013 after working as an accountant with Marriott. “All the credit goes to my father, who believed in me and trusted me. He’s the one who gave me all these opportunities to bring in different ideas.”
The restaurant’s name, Al Hamra, refers to the historic Lebanese city known as the “red one.” Today, it has become synonymous in the South Bay with hearty kebabs, healthy ingredients, and community warmth. The menu features core proteins—chicken, beef, fish, and lamb—served as plates, wraps, or bowls, along with specialty dishes such as masalas. For larger gatherings, Al Hamra offers catering platters.
Fahad credits the restaurant’s popularity to his father’s approach: “Everything we serve is the same as we cook at home. It’s always fresh, and the service we learned from my father, who taught us to treat customers well.”
Beyond the food, Al Hamra is woven into the neighborhood. “He always supported the community, and in return, they’ve supported us,” Fahad said about his dad’s love for Redondo Beach. During the pandemic, customers left heartfelt notes with their online orders: “We love you guys. We are here to support you. Don’t close!” That loyalty carried the restaurant through difficult times.
Al Hamra continues to give back, donating to local firefighters, supporting children’s hospitals, and participating in the Blue Zones Project, which promotes healthy dining. In recognition of these efforts, the North Redondo Beach Business Association named Al Hamra “Restaurant of the Year.”
Now with three locations—Redondo Beach, Lomita, and Inglewood—Fahad is focused on growth while preserving the

soul of the original. “We’re like a family here,” he said, noting that many employees have been with them for over a decade. “I even see the third generation of customers from the same families, telling us about my father: ‘I used to come the day your father opened.’” Through its food, service, and community, Al Hamra remains a place where everyone can enjoy the taste of home.

SIP, SWIRL, AND SAVOR YOUR WAY THROUGH YOUNTVILLE, THE CULINARY HEART OF NAPA
DESTINATION DELICIOUS
Looking for a once-in-a-lifetime epicurean experience? Yountville, which is nestled into Napa County with vineyards in every direction, is a treasure trove of foodie greatness at every turn. Here is how to take a bite out of it all.

RH YOUNTVILLE RESTAURANT
The flashy, splashy RH Yountville is hard to miss as it takes up nearly a full block along Yountville’s ultra-walkable downtown. The Restoration Hardwareowned property is a wine, food, and shopping mecca comprised of five separate experiences—an indoor/ outdoor restaurant with a glass roof surrounded by 100-year-old olive trees and adorned with dramatic crystal chandeliers; a two-story wine-tasting space with its own share of crystal chandeliers and a sleek limestone bar; a limited-production wine center; an espresso bar; and a boutique design gallery grander in scale than even its ever-so-lavish sister property at the Scottsdale Quarter in Scottsdale.
Award-winning chef Brendan Sodikoff leads the kitchen, sourcing seasonal ingredients from nearby farms and using them as inspiration for both whimsical, shareable, and New American fare, as well as twists on comfort-food classics. His team allows vegetables to shine right along with proteins, making it the perfect place for all diets. There are at least 40 wines by the glass on the menu at any given time, many from neighboring wineries. The expertly trained staff has pairing suggestions—be they wine, craft beer, or craft cocktails—for each dish, offering recommendations based on guests’ palates and preferences over trends and their personal tastes. Handwritten Wines , for example, offers a Breadand-Butter Experience. During the 90-minute seated event, guests can enjoy white truffle potato chips and Bouchon Bakery baguettes, along with multiple mouthwatering artisan butters. The butters are handmade to complement five of the winery’s most awarded varietals that are made on the Napa Valley hillside and most coveted vineyard blocks. HandWrittenWines.com
Priest Ranch , which is next door to Handwritten, boasts a Bacon and Wine Tasting. A must if you love meat and wine, the 90-minute experience marries four wines with its own bacon, each of which has been flavored with everything from honey to harissa to Italian herbs to bring out distinct notes in the wine. PriestRanchWines.com
Silver Trident Winery, across the two-lane street from Priest Ranch and Handwritten—so a one-minute walk— is home to what it calls the Potato Chip Extravaganza. True to its name, those who book this crunch-tastic tasting are treated to five types of potato chips, each sourced from a small producer. Each chip comes with a glass of wine to accompany it. The combination will take your taste buds on a magical mystery tour of flavor. SilverTridentWinery.com
JCB Tasting Salon , approximately 300 feet from Silver Trident, is home to a Caviar and Sparkling Wine Pairing. Hotel Yountville , just steps from more than a dozen tasting rooms and boutiques and built using river rocks from the nearby Napa River, has elegance to spare—and that extends to Heritage Oak, its signature eatery. Guests in the know always arrive prior to their reservations for killer craft cocktails (and adult popsicles!) at the Y Bar before being seated for elevated comfort food infused with wine country sophistication. Bardessono Hotel and Spa is approximately two blocks from Hotel Yountville. The striking, sprawling LEED Platinum Certified property, situated within its own vineyard, is committed to providing a lavish experience for guests and diners within a sustainable environment. Its world-renowned Lucy Restaurant & Bar—named for the Bardessono family’s matriarch—serves up craveable farm-to-fork dishes with global flair, using ingredients from the hotel’s orchards, on-site certified organic farming garden, and similarly minded farms and purveyors across the region. Bonus: The dog-friendly restaurant also has a menu for pups. Bardessono.com
North Block Hotel, which is nearly next door to RH Yountville, features all things wood-fired and wonderful at its primarily al fresco Restaurant at North Block. Beyond the gorgeous grilled main dishes, North Block is a happy hour hot spot thanks to its daily Oyster Hour, where fresh oysters are just $1, as well as a local craft beer selection and seasonally changing menu of scrumptious sourdough pizzas. CELEB CHEF SUPPER CLUB
No gourmet guide to Yountville would be complete without some stargazing. Many of the world’s most celebrated celebrity chefs sharpen their knives and showcase their skills in Yountville.
French Laundry helped put the region on the map. The prix fixe spot—named by Anthony Bourdain as the best restaurant in the world—is one of the only restaurants to hold three Michelin stars. Every dish tells a story, and every visit is unique. Founder Thomas Keller is a veteran of several Food Network shows, a staple of talk shows, and a guest judge on Top Chef. FrenchLaundry.com
Mustards Grill , a casual, yet elegant spot, is known for American fare and is named to honor Napa’s yellow mustard flowers that provide vital nutrients to the vines. The restaurant is covered in them, save for the space carved out for its organic garden. Its founder is bestselling cookbook author and Top Chef: Masters contender Cynthia Pawlcyn. MustardsGrill.com

Today, Philippe’s daughter Camille continues his legacy, creating each menu as an homage to her father’s favorite childhood food memories from his native France, and diners taste the love in every bite.
