LIFESTYLE LETTER

All About the Ladies

May is one of my favorite months as we get the opportunity to celebrate women and recognize their success and accomplishments. From my abuela, grandma, mom and mother-in-law, sisters, cousins, friends and co-workers, my life is richer and more beautiful because of the women in my life.

With Mother’s Day this month, we honor those that devote their time and attention in an endless way to their families. We also recognize those that are mother figures in our lives. It’s the celebration of our teachers, mentors, friends and neighbors who pour into us. They make a difference.

I also want to take a moment to remember those who are no longer with us as well. Their memories, their imprint and their legacy does not go unnoticed. They are forever in our hearts and a part of who we choose to be each day.

It’s important that we take this month to support and encourage the businesses owned by women in our community. This month we champion the growth and hard work of the women in Parker.

They are movers and shakers, builders and makers. They are both seen and unseen. Their silent service blesses those who are under their care. Their attention to detail shows us something about beauty that can’t be seen or understood any other way.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to send a text, make a phone call or get your kids on a video call with the women in your life who deserve recognition. It only takes a minute to brighten someone’s day and remind them how much you love them. CASSANDRA GREEN, PUBLICATION DIRECTOR @PARKERCITYLIFESTYLE

THE MIND-BODY CONNECTION

MULTI-TASKER, KELLY NASON, SHARES TIPS FOR A QUIETER INNER LIFE

Kelly Nason compares a woman’s mental load to a laptop with eighty seven tabs open. “That’s how I feel my brain is!” she tells me.

Kelly’s daily tabs reflect her responsibilities as a mother of two boys, the owner of Santosha Yoga/Therapy Studio, a licensed therapist and a yoga instructor. Additionally, she keeps a list of daily tasks and self-care activities. She even schedules her time for fun!

ARTICLE BY JULIE HOGLUND PHOTOGRAPHY BY ABBY WATKINS

“THERE IS A STRONG CONNECTION BETWEEN THE BODY AND MIND. AND THERE IS SIGNIFICANT OVERLAP BETWEEN THE FIELDS OF THERAPY AND YOGA.”

“I make sure of it,” she says. “If I want [fun] to happen, I must intentionally schedule it!”

Kelly opened Santosha Studio over a year ago after a breast cancer diagnosis led her to reflect on her mortality. She followed her dream of creating a yoga and mental therapy studio. Thus, Santosha Studio was born!

“There is a strong connection between the body and mind. And there is significant overlap between the fields of therapy and yoga,” Kelly says.

Here are some of Kelly’s tips for cultivating mental well-being.

1. CLOSING ‘TABS’

She encourages women to close some of the excess tabs by setting alarms, making

lists, using technology, delegating tasks, being open to receiving help and letting go of control. She points out, “Our mental load is so intense that if we can remove one task, like remembering to take the trash out on Monday, by setting a weekly recurring alarm, we won’t have to worry about it anymore.”

2. LIVING IN THE ‘NOW’

“Focus on what you feel and what is true in the moment. It relates closely to the senses. Ground yourself in the present by focusing on what you can see, hear, taste, touch and smell. This practice helps you avoid worrying about the past or the future. It’s about being present

and not stressing over all the what-ifs,” Kelly encourages.

3. REFRAMING SELF-DEFEATING THOUGHTS

Kelly explains, “Stop judging yourself. We often say, ‘I should have done that,’ or ‘I shouldn’t have done that.’ We think, ‘I should feel this way,’ or ‘I shouldn’t feel this way.’ This is black-and-white thinking. Instead, try to view things more objectively, considering them preferences rather than absolutes. You can notice, observe and accept your feelings instead of asking, ‘What’s wrong with me?’”

4. QUIETING THE BODY

Kelly brings up, “We carry emotional baggage and clutter in our bodies. Yoga helps to release it. Additionally, having a space for your mental health, such as a therapist or someone to talk to, is incredibly beneficial.”

Santosha offers 12 different types of yoga, seven licensed therapists, free classes, special events and ‘Relax’- a monthly spa experience featuring Aveda facial and body treatments, progressive relaxation and guided meditation. Visit SantoshaStudios.com for all the details.

Greenwood Automotive Expanding in Parker With a New Service Center

Honesty in Customer Service from Buying to Maintaining Vehicles for the Parker Community

Greenwood Automotive now features a new state-of-the-art service center to serve the Parker community, Greenwood Automotive Repair & Tire of Parker.

This family-owned business speaks to the Parker community in more ways than one. The Schabackers raised their children in Douglas County and their son has joined the business. They have known and loved the community for years, and are always on-site between their dealership and new service center.

“The service center is female-owned and operated,” Estrey Schabacker, co-owner of Greenwood Automotive, exclaims proudly. “We know it’s intimidating sometimes for women to come in and take their vehicle in for service and it’s nice to be able to have a woman to call and to meet with in there and go over their needs so they feel comfortable.”

“I think that’s made a big difference in Parker,” Estrey explains. “People really appreciate an owner coming over and thanking them for their business.”

Another reason Greenwood Automotive has thrived is its transparency in selling and servicing vehicles. They provide a thorough estimate that breaks down necessary and recommended work. Then, they explain what is recommended, giving the owner time to digest future service options, so they can plan for them.

John Schabacker, co-owner of Greenwood Automotive says, “One reason why I aggressively pursued this business [new service center] to

purchase is I got very frustrated in the repair community that you take a car in and these dealerships are writing tremendously high repair estimates of work that’s needed and recommended maintenance and were taking advantage of customers.”

In addition to their business, which now features a complete 360-degree lifecycle of buying, maintaining, selling and buying again, the Schabackers support the local community by giving back in any way they can.

Estrey shares, “We’re doing a lot of support of local charities, including the church next to us with their golf tournament. We’re also involved with the Parker Task Force. We’re really trying to give back to the community.”

Visit their new location at: 18700 Longs Way, Parker, CO 80134 (303) 805-8070 www.GreenwoodAutoRepairandTire.com

COULD YOU PLEASE SHARE ABOUT YOUR PASSION FOR PARKER AND WHAT YOU DO?

I love Parker because it’s a place where people truly show up for one another. Whether it’s backing local nonprofits, keeping our small-town charm alive or making sure we grow the right way—this town just has heart.

As a Councilmember and small business owner, I’m all about working with our community to make sure Parker isn’t just getting bigger—it’s getting better.

WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THE TOWN OF PARKER?

My vision is where everyone—seniors, families, small business owners and our kids… the next generation—feels like they belong. That means attainable housing, strong partnerships and the kind of resources that make living here work for all ages.

WHAT IS YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT TO WOMEN IN OUR COMMUNITY?

Your voice absolutely matters. I never felt like I was the smartest or brightest in school…far from it—but I showed up, worked hard and found my place. Whether you’re raising kids, leading a team or making things happen behind the scenes—don’t doubt the impact you’re having. Show up, get involved and know there’s always space for you at the table. Program Manager, SECOR Cares

WHAT IS YOUR PASSION?

I am a retired teacher with nearly thirty years of experience teaching in Douglas County Schools. After my retirement, I transitioned to become the Program Manager at SECOR Cares, an invaluable community resource providing a free food market in Parker. In my role, I oversee all aspects related to the experiences of our guests, ensuring that they are met with kindness, respect and efficiency. Every day, I work to foster an environment where our guests can experience dignity, support and hope.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I am continuously inspired by the strength and perseverance of our guests. Every day, I see firsthand how resilient they are. Despite facing difficult challenges, they demonstrate unwavering determination and hope for a better future. Their courage fuels my passion and motivates me to keep pushing forward for our community.

WHAT IS YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT FOR WOMEN?

We need more women in leadership roles, particularly in our communities, where our voices and perspectives can have such a powerful impact. Don’t be afraid to pursue your dreams, even if the path feels daunting. Your courage, ambition and leadership can pave the way for others to follow.

Judy Nelson Heart2Hand, Vice President

WHAT IS YOUR PASSION?

I’ve always had a very inherent desire to serve others in need. After decades of volunteering for Special Olympics, food banks and other service organizations it was a natural step for my husband and I to launch our own nonprofit with a focus on getting food, diapers and other essentials to our most vulnerable populations facing food insecurity and other challenges. What I love most about our ministry is simply seeing the body language of these parents when we are about to help them. You can almost feel them breathe with relief, hope and gratitude. Our passion for serving is reflected in the name of our organization which is a symbol of us giving our heart (time and energy) to the hand of another person in need.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I’ve always been inspired by Christ. He calls us to love one another and I want my life on earth to be reflective of His. My parents were also inspirational. My dad would always give food out from his restaurant as he never wanted anyone to be hungry. Also, being a breast cancer survivor has given me empathy for others facing health challenges. Hannah Nuttall Venue

Manager/Co-Owner at Bonnie Blues Event Venue

WHAT IS YOUR PASSION?

Bonnie Blues is incredibly special to me. My dad and I designed and built it from the ground up, and we even named it after my grandmother, Bonnie McCoy. Every day, I feel connected to her and what we created together. I also love being a part of such important milestones for people. It’s truly special to witness families uniting and celebrating these new beginnings.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

My parents are my biggest inspiration. They both own several successful businesses and have always worked incredibly hard. I strive to emulate their dedication and provide for my family in the same way.

WHAT IS YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT TO OTHER WOMEN IN OUR COMMUNITY?

If you have a dream, pursue it relentlessly! Don’t let the fear of failure hold you back, because you’ll likely stumble along the way. Learn from those setbacks, rise up and try again with even more passion. And never hesitate to ask for help—everyone needs it sometimes. The reward of pursuing your dream is well worth the effort.

Julia N. Romanow Partner and Part Owner of Gasper, Romanow & Little, PLLC

WHAT IS YOUR WORK AND PASSION?

Public service has always been in my blood and I am passionate about helping people. In our womenowned family law practice, we focus on helping people who need guidance at a very difficult time in their lives. I believe my job is to inform clients about their rights and work with them to resolve the matter in a favorable way.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I am inspired by those around me that are doing hard things. Every single day, there are people around me exemplifying this. Whether that is standing up against bullies or injustice, or combating bias and prejudice. There are people that are working and taking care of family members - either children or parents. These warriors are my inspiration.

WHAT IS YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT TO WOMEN?

It is never too late to do the right thing and fight for a just result. We won’t always win the battles but sometimes in our lives, it is up to us to take a stand. I have never had regrets over the battles I have lost, I have always regretted not taking action where action is required.

Dr. Christina Sass

DO, Lead Hospitalist, AdventHealth

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AND PASSION?

I am the head of the department of hospital medicine at AdventHealth Parker Hospital. A Hospitalist is a doctor, usually internal medicine (like myself) or family medicine trained, who provides care for patients while they are in the hospital. They manage the patient’s care from the moment they arrive until they discharge. I manage the hospitalist team and act as a liaison to all the other services in the hospital.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I grew up visiting hospitals, as my family has a strong predisposition for heart disease. My father had a heart attack and heart surgery at the young age of forty two. I was eleven and instead of being afraid, I was inspired by the care I saw him receive, and also by his courage in facing something so difficult. I think of him often when I am giving bad news or teaching patients. Illness is life changing at best. It helps to know you have someone there supporting you and rooting for you.

WHAT IS YOUR WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT?

This is a saying my father often told me as I was going through training and I live by it to this day “Have fun, learn a lot, try to do some good.”

Shokohi Wealth Manager, Shokohi Wealth Management Group, WINGS Founder

COULD YOU SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR ORGANIZATION, WOMEN INSPIRING A NETWORK OF GROWTH AND SUPPORT (WINGS)?

WINGS is a nonprofit organization that empowers women by providing financial education and emotional support, particularly for those navigating divorce. We offer financial literacy programs, workshops and a free financial helpline WINGS’ goal is to help women make informed financial decisions and build confidence for a secure future.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

My inspiration to grow and develop stems from my personal journey of overcoming financial challenges as a single parent raising three children. This experience ignited my passion for financial education and empowerment, leading me to become a dedicated teacher and financial planner.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING IN PARKER?

I have called Parker home for twenty seven years and have had the privilege of being a business owner in the heart of downtown. There’s something truly special about this community—the perfect blend of small-town warmth and modern energy. I love the unwavering support from fellow business owners, the deep sense of connection among neighbors and the incredible beauty that surrounds us. Parker isn’t just where I live and work—it’s where I thrive.

Brought Together By Clay

Kaylee's Love for Pottery Has Gathered a Community Together in Her Studio at Community Mud

Kaylee Eichholz is the owner of Community Mud, a pottery studio in Parker. I had the opportunity to get to know her love for art and community. What I love about this interview is hearing Kaylee’s passion for bringing people together in a creative and empowering way.

She and her team are celebrating their oneyear anniversary Sunday, May 18th at Bodega Beer Company (formerly, Fiction Beer Parker) from 5 to 8 p.m. They’d love to see you and connect! In the meantime, I hope her words encourage you to join a class and experience Community Mud for yourself.

COULD YOU PLEASE SHARE ABOUT COMMUNITY MUD?

Community Mud is a vibrant hub for pottery enthusiasts of all levels, fostering a welcoming and collaborative environment where creativity flourishes. We offer a range of experiences, from 24/7 studio memberships that empower experienced potters to create independently to in-depth, guided multiweek classes covering techniques like wheel throwing and hand-building, designed to cultivate skills and build connections. We also host engaging one-time introductory events, providing a relaxed and playful space for newcomers to experience the joy of working with clay. At Community Mud, we’re passionate about making pottery approachable and accessible, building a supportive community where everyone feels inspired to explore their creative potential.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO OPEN COMMUNITY MUD?

My journey to opening Community Mud began when I moved to Parker in 2022 and started looking around for a studio to continue to foster my own love of pottery. When I was unable to find an existing studio to join, I just set up a home studio in the basement of my home to keep creating. I quickly learned that what I loved about pottery wasn’t just the creative outlet, it was about being part of a community where the joy of creating was shared, where learning was a collaborative experience and where the passion for clay brought people together. I found myself longing for a place where I could not only continue my own pottery journey but also connect with others who shared the same love for the craft.

Driven by a desire to create a space for inspiration, learning and connection, we opened our doors in May of 2024. It wasn’t just about opening a studio; it was about building a community where

beginners could feel comfortable and supported in their learning and where experienced potters could push their creative boundaries. A place where the shared love of clay would create lasting friendships and where the act of creating would be celebrated. That’s what Community Mud is now, and that’s what I hope it will continue to be.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT HAVING A BUSINESS IN PARKER?

I’ve been deeply moved by the incredible support Parker has shown Community Mud. From our amazing members and students to the generous advice and collaboration from fellow business owners, this town has truly embraced us. Even the local government has been remarkably helpful.

Parker has proven to be the perfect place for a small business. I’m immensely grateful for this welcoming community.

HOW DO YOU KEEP A HEALTHY MINDSET AS A BUSINESS OWNER?

Keeping a healthy mindset as a business owner can be challenging. The ‘tyranny of the urgent’ is real, and there’s always something demanding your attention. I’ve discovered that intentionally and actively making time for mental resets is key. For me, that’s diving into a good book, studio playtime on personal projects, or hanging out with my favorite people and dogs. It’s a constant effort to remind myself that prioritizing balance, even if it means postponing something seemingly urgent, is a long-term investment in both my well-being and the business.

WHAT IS YOUR WORD OF ADVICE TO ARTISTS?

My best advice for artists is just to try it. Try that unconventional concept, experiment with that unfamiliar technique, sell your creations, or launch that business you’ve been dreaming of. You’ll either find success or learn something essential. Either way, you win.

Parker Blooms is a one-stop-shop for your special someone. We have flowers, plants, chocolates, cards and unique gifts for any occasion. Delivery available in Parker and surrounding communities.
