We’ve had some snowy days, but mostly sunny ones. That’s the beauty of being able to call Colorado our home. The sun comes out with little hesitation even if the snow has just fallen. Whether you’re a native or just moved here, I hope you feel the welcoming warmth of sunlight in every season.
British poet and critic, Edith Sitwell says, “Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”
As we transition from winter into spring, we begin a renewal of our home. The days get a little longer and spring cleaning wakes us up to the expectation of a new season on its way.
In our March issue, we share and highlight people that make it their mission to elevate your life. Beyond their services, I hope you experience their hearts to make our community an even more beautiful place to call home. From Dustin Courter, owner of First Response Dumpsters to Chuck Steffens, co-owner of Simon-Pure Amish Woodworks or Reid Winegar founder of Ridgeline Services and Scapes, each carry an experience and expertise that surpasses their job titles. They help build and shape our homes with foundations of integrity and excellence.
We also get a chance to share the story behind Poonam “Pam” Moore. An award-winning interior designer, remodeling general contractor and the founder of Poonam’s By Design, Pam has an inspiring story of hard work, grit and building a legacy beyond what the eyes can see. I hope her story encourages and motivates you to build your own life, home and legacy.
Happy March!

Poonam Moore Shares Her Story Behind Poonam's By Design And Her Legacy That's Still Being Written
Beyond Her Wildest Dreams
ARTICLE BY CASSANDRA GREEN
PHOTOGRAPHY BY ABBY WATKINS
Poonam “Pam” Moore is an award-winning interior designer, remodeling general contractor and the founder of Poonam’s By Design. You may recognize her from HGTV’s Rico to the Rescue, 100 Day Hotel Challenge and more to come in 2025. (Hint, hint, keep an eye out.) With local stores in Park Meadows and Southlands, we had a chance to meet in person and hear a little bit about her story.
When asked about her values, Pam responds, “I’m very much a God-fearing girl. I have always believed in spiritual life and balance of that. I live in that space of gratitude, daily gratitude, because really knowing where I came from, knowing how I grew up and knowing where I am at now, it's a very ‘pinch me’ moment. It's all the things and beyond that I ever would have dreamt of as a girl.”
Born in Fiji, Pam moved to Los Angeles, California when she was eight years old. Her mom worked two jobs to support their family. Pam describes, “My mom is a fighter. She's strong and she's ‘family first.’” She attributes her mom’s hard work to building a legacy which is something she is intentional to continue.
The qualities Pam shares about her mom are the same qualities she exemplifies during our short time together. The passion and support she shows for her team as well as her family is beaming.
One of her project managers, Elizabeth Moore, says, “She tells me to never limit myself and never stay in the box. If I have more than one idea, she’s always supported me. She breaks the box and makes the box bigger.”
As a little girl, Pam was always a big dreamer. She reflects, “I always saw something beyond. I always tried to reach for whatever I couldn’t see. Even when I was in school, I knew I would do this.”
Coming from a background of poverty and abuse, Pam talks about Oprah as someone who influenced her. She explains, “[Oprah] didn’t let [anything]
“She tells me to never limit myself and never stay in the box. If I have more than one idea, she’s always supported me...”
make her a victim. She actually used [it] as her grit. She used [it] as her fuel. I'm the same exact way. I'm very optimistic. I decided all the things that I've been through in my life were going to give me grit. And I was going to live out this great life and teach my daughters that nothing can stop them.. nothing.. only they can stop them.”
Pam also found great inspiration in her aunt who worked hard and found success for herself. “I looked at people who struggled. I looked to people’s stories to find a common thread to see that there was hope.”
As a minority business owner and female contractor in a man’s world, Pam is striking milestones. She holds herself and her team in full confidence based on hard work and grit. Rather than limit herself to a singular expertise, she broke
both barriers and became an interior designer and remodeling general contractor.
It’s due to Pam’s vision for impossible things that gave her clarity in her career to combine these two trades. She says, “I was thinking about building when I was becoming a designer, and there was no such thing as a design-build back then. Either you were a designer or you were a builder. There was not a combination of the two and really to today there is not a combination of the two.”
By developing the two skill sets in tandem, Pam has carved a precise path for herself and her team. Her eye for a project enters dimensions within both remodeling builds and interior design. So whether you want to renovate or elevate your space, this creates a smoother project overall. You don’t
“You have to put the work into it. Everything takes grit and work… Learn your lessons. Keep it moving. That’s how you do it.”
and accessories… We do kitchens, baths, whole house remodels... most of our jobs end up becoming whole house remodels,” she states.
Married 29 years to her husband, Everett, who is a retired Denver police officer, Pam expresses, “He’s my entire rock. He’s my biggest cheerleader… We built everything we have together.” With a family of four daughters and three grandchildren, her advice is to, “Live your best life and do what you want. Don’t listen to other people’s expectations.”
have to hire a contractor and then bring in an interior designer after. Poonam’s By Design takes the entire project in a fierce stride and they see every project to full satisfaction and completion.
“Whether you want to upgrade all your light fixtures and give it a whole new look. Do drapery, window treatments, whatever it is, we do everything ‘home.’ We can do as little or as much as you want to kind of elevate your spaces. Wall treatments, light fixtures, furnishings
She encourages those who are looking for that push to pursue their dreams. “You can't wait for the right moment because there's never going to be a right moment. You can't wait for someone to tell you it's time. No one's going to tell you it's time. So, if you want to do something, focus in, put your faith out there, believe in yourself, believe in something bigger and just start taking the steps... put the work into it. Nothing is going to come easy. You have to put the work into it. Everything takes grit and work… Learn your lessons. Keep it moving. That’s how you do it.”

The Story Behind the Painting:
I took a cross-country trip recently and was deeply inspired by what I saw when I came upon this farmhouse. I love so much about this simple country home; the durability of the structure, the patriotism of the flag, the invitation of the porch, the welcoming setting surrounding the structure, and all the feelings that seemed to be associated with what I was seeing. In my mind, the entirety of the picture seemed to carry several stories within it. As I was painting this piece, I wanted to convey the feeling of being able to join friends or family at a place where there is an unspoken invitation to come, hang out and stay as long as you want. I hope that as you view this painting, you can envision the memories you will make as you accept the open invitation to walk up to the house and stay awhile?

First Response Dumpsters Gives Back
Former Fireman and Race Car Driver Fills a New Community Need
As the breeze gets warmer, March comes with a tantalizing hint of spring. On those days when the sun finally has some warmth back, we open the windows to start banishing months of dust. As exciting as it is, spring cleaning can bring its own hurdles. Sometimes, our dust is a bit less metaphoric and comes in the shape of clutter, chaos and general detritus. We need to call in the calvary.

Dustin Courter, owner of First Response Dumpsters, started his business after 17 years as a fireman, bringing with him the core values of “service excellence, environment, people and stewardship.” Despite exchanging a firetruck for a garbage truck, he sees the gap his new service fills in providing residential dumpsters. “It’s a job that is needed, and it’s something that I’ve been able to learn a lot from. I get to meet a lot of people, and it lets me build relationships in this community, and that’s something I value.”
First Response Dumpsters also provides emergency services helping to clear traffic accidents. This is familiar territory for a former fireman. “I was the one that they would call on the worst day of their lives.” Rushing into burning buildings is not his only adventure. Before fire service, he traveled all over the US and Canada with his dad racing cars. Dustin misses these chapters, but asserts, “There’s always something next.”
With First Response Dumpsters, he has a new way to give back. He wants his community to know, “Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need something. It doesn’t always have to be about the money. It’s a good community, Parker is. There’s a lot of good communities, but I’m familiar with this one, so it’s just helping family out, if you will.”

SIMON-PURE FURNITURE
MAKING A HOUSE A HOME WITH HIGH-QUALITY
AMISH FURNITURE
ARTICLE BY KRISTEN GONZALES

“This table,” explains Chuck Steffens, co-owner of Simon-Pure Amish Woodworks, “if you touch it, it’s velvety and you can feel the life of the piece in it.” A glance around the Simon-Pure showroom near downtown Parker showcases that life pulses behind every piece, whether it’s a table, bedroom set or outdoor pergola. The beauty of the woodwork, coupled with the creativity of the Amish, breathes life throughout their inviting showroom.
Chuck and his wife, Linda Steffens, began their Amish endeavor online in 2020 and opened their retail space in September 2024.
“I came in and saw all these gigantic windows and all of the light,” Chuck recalls, “and I was like, this is it.” Finding their exquisite space meant showing customers the meaning behind each piece.
Speaking about a bed made from a partly rotten slab of wood, Chuck says, “There was a void in the slab, and they said we want to utilize this, so we’ll put a mirror in.” The Amish builders took a discarded piece and brought it back to life.
As their name suggests, Simon-Pure brings genuine furniture into a home, making it feel alive. Every piece allows for customization to fit the buyer’s vision. From different finishes for wood and Poly to fabrics, sizes and shapes, their custom design center creates unique furniture for any home.
With spring on the horizon, Chuck is excited to help people create an outdoor oasis that suits them and stands up to the Colorado weather. While wood outdoors is an option, Chuck jokes, “My state will eat it.” Because of Colorado’s record of wind, rain, snow and hail, Chuck and Linda decided to give Poly a chance and allow customization down to faux stones to keep outdoor spaces elegant with low maintenance.
Chuck and Linda believe their Amish furniture will have a lasting impact no matter what part of the home it occupies.
"If you touch it... you can feel the life of the piece in it.”
“With Amish furniture, you can get rid of it positively, like giving this bed to the kids or this patio set to your sister-inlaw where you’re repurposing it,” Chuck says.
In the end, the Steffens want people to feel like their homes are a place of refuge. “When you return home at the end of the day, and you have that kind of quality waiting for you, it takes a burden off your mind.”
NATIVE ROOTS
Denver-Born Landscaper Takes Homes From the Inside, Out!
ARTICLE BY JULIE HOGLUND PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Native Coloradans are rare these days. We live among a wide field of transplants from all over the United States and beyond. Reid Winegar is a native with deep roots in the Colorado soil. “There’s very few of us left; with all the people living here, it’s harder to come across somebody who is originally from here.”
Reid met his wife Kaylee years ago at a dinner party in downtown Denver. “There were six of us friends that went out that night and we all ended up marrying our dates from the evening!” He tells me. Their family grew with the birth of Charlie, now eight years old. “After my first daughter was born, I was traveling a lot. I could be gone for up to four weeks at a time. I could see the toll it was taking on Kaylee, who also had a full-time job.” He left a career in oil and gas
and went to work for a landscaping company. Three years later, he opened Ridgeline Services and Scapes. A year after that, daughter Lily was born. She has grown up alongside the business
“Do you have a quote that inspires you in life?” I asked him. “Yes! ‘Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. Weak men create hard times.’ It’s by G. Michael Hopf. It inspires me to be a better father, husband and leader in general. It reminds me of the importance of proper leadership and the results that follow, good or bad.”
CONTINUED >
“Reid, what makes a house a home, in your opinion?” I asked. “I think it’s specific to everyone. For me, it’s definitely my comfort zone. It’s where I come to relax. It’s where we entertain. Everyday, I look forward to going home after work.”
Reid believes that home extends beyond its four walls. “Your outdoor living spaces can connect to your inside spaces. The home and the yard itself can give a larger and more inviting feeling. I like to have it all flowing together, whether it’s the ambience of a water feature, a fire pit or outdoor furniture. I want the same comfort level outside as there is inside.” Ridgeline Services and Scapes offers commercial and residential design, masonry, water and fire features, irrigation, native arbor, wood pergolas, snow removal and much more. Visit RidgelineScapes.com to find out more.
REID’S TIPS FOR SPRING SPRUCE UP.
1. Trim hedges and plants before they bloom.
2. Clean small leaves and trash from garden beds and rocks.
3. Buy a plant or shrub that keeps bugs away.
“HOME IS MY COMFORT ZONE! I LOOK FORWARD TO GOING HOME AT THE END OF THE DAY.”

The ubiquitous houseplant has long been a cautious curiosity for many. Comments such as “I don’t have a green thumb,” or “I can’t keep anything alive,” have echoed through the rooms and hallways of almost every home in America. Well, it’s time to dispel all the mistruths about whether houseplants are beneficial and to lay the foundation for a little oasis of green happiness in the corner of every home!
By the way, you don’t really need a green thumb as there are plenty of hard-to-kill houseplants that can survive any level of neglect! And remember not only do houseplants look pretty, they also decrease stress and anxiety, increase happiness, and bring a sense of joy and relaxation to every room.
Houseplants make us feel better about ourselves in many ways because they allow us to care for them and we reap the rewards of that love. No one is alone when you have a houseplant, as they are our forever listeners. Yes, some people actually do talk with their houseplants all day long! There are many science-based benefits to having houseplants in the home and office environment. Aside from reducing indoor air pollutants and increasing humidity in the home, house
plants have been shown to reduce mental fatigue, accelerate the healing process, as well as improve productivity and focus.
Pothos, spider plants, lady palms, yucca, and succulents are so pretty and easy to grow. It is no wonder that we have seen a revival of indoor gardening trends. Instagram is teeming with photos of incredible indoor “living green” vignettes that show us all how clever we can be when decorating with house plants! All you really need is to a pick a place in the home that has the best light and pick your plants.
ARTICLE BY SEAN O’KEEFE
Think outside of the box when it comes to decorating with houseplants. Look for underused spaces. Use mixed and matched pots of different sizes and shapes. Turn a shelf into a plant display. Go vertical with some hanging plants or an antique ladder. You can even group some of your favorite plants together into a single large decorative pot.
Signature large plant displays anchor the most well-designed rooms in America and it’s all there for us to look at, learn from, and bring into our own home. Whether combined into a single large decorative pot or clustered together in a corner, always remember the key to any house plant décor is to have a thriller, a tall plant usually with a strong color and form; filler plants that literally will fill the pot covering all the soil; and a spiller plant that trails over the edge of the pot. Try any combination of your favorite plants or a tried and true combination of a fiddle-leaf fig, a prayer plant, and a string of pearls. No matter how you look at it, houseplants improve our lives in many ways. Indoor gardens provide us an alternative way to commune with nature and to reconnect with the living world. We all benefit from the additional life that houseplants bring into our homes. In this crazy world of ours, wouldn’t be it nice to return home to your own personal indoor greenspace.
