As the sun sets a little earlier and a gentle breeze signals the arrival of Fall in Southwest Florida, November invites us to pause and reflect. While we may not trade sandals for boots or watch leaves turn crimson and gold, this season offers its own reminders of gratitude - found in our community, our surroundings, and the simple joys of daily life.
Here in paradise, we give thanks for mornings painted in shades of coral and gold, for waterfront markets brimming with fresh local flavors, and for the unique blend of cultures that make our region so vibrant. We give thanks for neighbors who may have lent a hand after a storm, and for local businesses and non-profit organizations that bring us together and keep our community inspired.
This issue celebrates the many ways Southwest Florida embraces the spirit of giving thanks. You'll find stories of generosity that ripple through our neighborhoods, new members of our community offering thanks, nonprofits who are lifting up our community in many different ways, and restaurants that often give back to our Paradise Coast.
As we head into the holiday season, may this November remind us that gratitude is more than a moment - it is a way of living. Here at Paradise Coast City Lifestyle, we are certainly grateful - this issue also marks our first year (the photo here is from our first ever Cover shoot last November)! It's been full of challenge, but also good hard work, promise, community and partnership. We thank you our readers, our advertisers, and our partners and friends along the way! We love being part of our Paradise Coast community, and we look forward to celebrating together all the beauty this season has to offer.
With much gratitude,
Jenn & Our Paradise Coast City Lifestyle Team

PARADISE WITH A PURPOSE
Naples and Marco Island Neighbors Opening Their Homes, Hearts, and Businesses to Help Heal America’s Special Operations Forces Families
ARTICLE BY PCCL AND OHS STAFFS | PHOTOGRAPHY
BY OPERATION HEALING FORCES
Operation Healing Forces (OHF) has been serving America’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) warriors, veterans, families, caregivers, and survivors since 2011, with a mission that goes far beyond traditional support. A national nonprofit founded by Gary and Denise Markel of Naples, OHF is dedicated to providing meaningful, long-lasting impacts for those who have sacrificed so much in service to our nation.
A UNIQUE COMMITMENT
What makes OHF especially distinctive is its financial model: the Board of Directors covers 100% of all overhead and administrative costs . This means every dollar donated by community members and supporters goes directly to funding programs that change - and save - lives. Donors can give with confidence, knowing their generosity has a direct and immediate impact on those who need it most.
Equally unique is OHF’s reach. Unlike most nonprofits, OHF serves all branches of Special Operations Forces - active duty, veteran, National Guard, and Reserve - and their families and caregivers . This ensures that no matter where they serve or what their status, SOF warriors and loved ones facing hardship can access the support they need when they need it most.
A DECADE OF NAPLES AND MARCO SUPPORT
At the heart of OHF’s work are its therapeutic retreats, where small groups of SOF couples and caregivers come together in private homes generously donated for the charity’s use by Naples and Marco Island residents. For more than a decade, the Paradise Coast has welcomed these heroes and their families with open arms. Resilience-based retreats have been hosted in multiple different area homes, and the generosity of the community has made each gathering impactful and unforgettable.
OHF Couples Retreats
Kerry Irvin, CEO OHF
But the giving doesn’t stop at housing. Local restaurants, fishing charters, dinner cruises, airboat tours, boat rentals, wellness spas, and outdoor activity providers have all donated their services over the years. This ensures wounded warriors, their partners, and caregivers experience not only rest and reconnection but also the warmth and hospitality of the community.
IMMEDIATE NEEDS, LASTING IMPACT
Beyond retreats, OHF’s Special Operations Additional Resources (SOAR)
Immediate Needs Program tackles urgent crises and debilitating hardships. This includes covering mental health services, addressing food insecurity, assisting with military-to-civilian transition, and - most critically - focusing on suicide prevention. For many, this support is the lifeline that prevents temporary hardships from spiraling into overwhelming burdens.
Every retreat, every immediate need fulfilled, and every transitioning service member aided is part of a larger mission to save lives, restore hope, and create bonds that heal.
VOICES OF PURPOSE
As CEO Kerry Irvin explains:
“What makes this mission so powerful is that it touches every part of life. We help warriors heal their minds and bodies, support families with essentials like food, housing, medical care, and counseling, and walk with them through the challenges of transition. When you see a warrior reconnect with their spouse or a caregiver finally exhale knowing they’re not alone, you understand the power of this mission. These aren’t temporary fixes - they’re investments in people who have already given so much. Together, we’re creating a legacy of resilience that ensures the sacrifices of our nation’s Special Operations community are honored not just today, but for generations to come.”
For founder Gary Markel, the mission is deeply personal - and a reflection of his community’s values:
“When Denise and I started OHF, it was with the strong desire to make a difference for those who’ve given everything for our country. One of the things that makes me so proud to be a resident of Naples is how my neighbors have stepped up in such a big way. Healing doesn’t happen in isolation— it happens in community – it happens in our community. This community has shown extraordinary generosity in welcoming these families and giving them the gift of healing. When you think of all these families sacrifice for us, not even knowing us, I feel championing for them and finding ways to help support their needs is the least I can do as an American.”
SOF and Their Caregivers Greatly Value the Support They Receive from OHS:
“Being alongside others who have walked this journey that is often difficult and by its very nature requires us to maintain a quietude that can bring about a deep sense of isolation has made a tremendous difference in my life and in my relationship with my wife and children. For the first time in a long time, we are connecting in a way that brings me

hope that we will make it for the long haul.” M. Smith, U.S. Army Ranger
"As a military wife, life can feel overwhelming with solo parenting during deployments and endless trainings, loneliness, and the unique challenges this lifestyle brings. But at this retreat, I felt truly seen and acknowledged. OHF made me feel special, honoring the strength and sacrifices we make every day.”

A CALL TO ACTION
The impact of OHF’s work is clear: stronger families, renewed resilience, and lives saved. Yet the demand continues to outpace resources. The organization already serves more than 3,500 individuals annually and has the homes and infrastructure to serve thousands morebut it needs the philanthropic support of the community to meet the growing need.
For residents of Naples, Marco Island, and beyond, the opportunity to make a meaningful difference is here. Whether by donating a home for a retreat, offering goods and services, or providing financial support, every act of generosity fuels OHF’s mission to restore lives and strengthen families. Together, we can ensure that America’s Quietest Professionals and their families receive the care, healing, and hope they deserve.
Please consider donating https://give.operationhealingforces.org/campaign/648962/donate or sponsoring https://operationhealingforces.org/ sponsors/ today! Operation Healing Forces is honored to be one of only a select few organizations in the state approved as a designated charity under the Florida Strong Families Tax Credit program.
WHO OHF SERVES:
• All branches of U.S. Special Operations Forces (SOF)
• Wounded, ill, and injured SOF warriors
• SOF Veterans
• SOF Caregivers
• Gold Star Families of the Fallen
CORE PROGRAMS:
• Therapeutic Retreats: Week-long healing experiences provided at no-cost to SOF couples & SOF caregivers that build connections and enhance resilience

• Virtual Wellness Coaching: Mental, physical, and emotional resilience resources provided virtually in private sessions at no charge. This program is a stepping stone to mental health counseling, when there is a perceived stigma or other barrier to overcome

• Homes and infrastructure ready, but funding is the limiting factor!
Our Daily Bread Food Pantry has officially opened the doors to their new permanent home at 1818 San Marco Road, Marco Island
For more than three decades, Our Daily Bread Food Pantry has been a lifeline for families and individuals in Marco Island and Naples, Florida. What began as a modest local mission (founded by Jo Anne Lundquist, Shawnee Huff, Liz Pecora, Vicki Johnson, and Jennifer Ludwigsen), has grown into an independent 501c3 non-profit organization and trusted community resource, dedicated to addressing food insecurity with compassion, dignity, and innovation. Today, through its main pantry and expanding network of mobile pantries, Our Daily Bread reaches thousands of people each month, ensuring that no neighbor goes hungry. We sat down with both Evelyn Rossetti-Ryan, Executive Director, and Allyson Richards, Board of Directors Chair, to understand more about their mission and future plans:
MEETING A GROWING NEED
Southwest Florida is known for its scenic beaches, thriving tourism, and welcoming neighborhoods, but behind the beauty lies a hidden challenge: food insecurity. Rising housing costs, seasonal employment, and the growing needs of seniors and working families make it difficult for many to keep food on the table. Our Daily Bread steps in to fill this gap, providing nutritious groceries and household essentials free of charge to anyone in need.
The pantry operates on a simple yet profound mission: to share God’s love by providing food and support to those struggling with hunger. Each week, volunteers greet those in need with warmth and respect, helping them choose fresh produce, dairy, meat, and pantry staples. By offering variety and quality, the pantry strives to maintain not only physical nourishment but also dignity for every person served.
EXPANDING ACCESS WITH MOBILE PANTRIES
Recognizing that transportation is often a barrier, especially for seniors and families without reliable vehicles, Our Daily Bread has extended its services through mobile pantries. These pop-up distributions bring food directly to neighborhoods in both Marco Island and Naples, expanding the pantry’s reach far beyond its brick-and-mortar location.
Mobile pantries are strategically scheduled and coordinated with local churches, schools, and community centers. Each serves hundreds of households, offering fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins, and shelf-stable items. For many, these mobile visits are
the difference between going hungry and having meals for the week—especially during rainy, hurricane and off-seasons.
This innovative approach reflects the pantry’s commitment to meeting people where they are—literally and figuratively. By reducing barriers, Our Daily Bread ensures that assistance is accessible to everyone who needs it.
POWERED BY VOLUNTEERS AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Our Daily Bread thrives thanks to the generosity of its volunteers and donors. Retirees, students, local businesses, and civic organizations all play a role in stocking shelves, packing bags, organizing mobile distributions, and fundraising. In 2024 alone, volunteers contributed tens of thousands of hours, proving that compassion and collaboration are at the heart of this mission.
Financial and food donations also make a significant impact. Local grocery stores, restaurants, and farms provide surplus food, while monetary contributions allow the pantry to purchase items in bulk. Every dollar donated translates into multiple meals, stretching resources to serve as many people as possible.
MORE THAN JUST FOOD
While groceries are the primary focus, Our Daily Bread recognizes that hunger is often tied to broader challenges. The pantry connects clients with additional resources, such as job training programs, healthcare referrals, and social services too. By addressing the root causes of food insecurity, the organization empowers families to move toward greater stability and independence.
A VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Looking ahead, Our Daily Bread remains committed to growing its impact. Plans include expanding mobile pantry operations, strengthening partnerships with local agencies, and continuing to respond to the evolving needs of Southwest Florida’s communities.
For Marco Island and Naples, Our Daily Bread is more than a pantry—it is a symbol of hope, compassion, and resilience. By nourishing bodies and uplifting spirits, it reminds us all of the power of neighbors helping neighbors.

"At Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, we are committed to providing food, encouragement, and hope to every family who comes through our doors. We see this as giving a 'hand up' to those who live and/or work in our communities and need our support. We see food as being medicine for the soul."

FC Naples Giving Thanks
FOR THEIR FIRST SEASON IN OUR PARADISE COAST
A year ago, we launched our publication featuring our local pro sports teams. We celebrate that inaugural issue today in acknowledging how far the newest of those organizations, FC Naples, has come along in their first season since building their new team in our Paradise Coast and greatly adding to the positive elements of our community. We sat down with their CEO, Head
Coach, and select players to learn about what they're most thankful for as they approach the end of their first season:
Bob Moreno, CEO: “I’m thankful for our entire team – the players who bring everything they have to the field, our operations staff that brings every game day to life, as well as our season ticket holders, fans, and community partners that have made FC Naples’ inaugural year so successful.”
Coach Matt Poland: “Being a resident of Marco Island, I’m especially thankful that from day one our community has had our back. The energy they bring to every home match makes all the difference!”
Julian Cisneros: "This Thanksgiving, I'm most thankful for my family because they support me in everything that I do; my grandpa shaped a lot of who I am, especially. I'm of course also grateful for the FC Naples community—the fans and our fan club La Barra 239, the sponsors, and everybody that supports us unconditionally—week in and week out."
Brecc Evans: "Everybody in the FC Naples organization has been very welcoming and I've been grateful for that since moving here to SWFL Florida earlier this year. Another thing I'm thankful for is the sunshine nearly every day. We get to train under the sunlight, and it just gives us positive energy. The team is always in good spirits and has good vibes out here at Paradise Coast Sports Complex."
Ian Garrett: "My family being here in Florida close by is truly a blessing. I also lived apart from my girlfriend for many years previously, so to have her living with me here is truly amazing. Can't beat family and football!"
Lalo Delgado: "What I'm most thankful for is the ownership and the staff that have the confidence of bringing me out here to beautiful Naples. Also, the relationships we've forged across the whole team, after only having met a few months ago, is incredible. Lastly, the constant support of our fan club, La Barra, has been amazing - they're out here every single game day, playing music and cheering for us—the community support has been fantastic—I think we have the best fans in the league!"

Local Restaurants Serving Food and the Community
There are few things I think are a greater gift than the joy of a good meal with friends. The plates are full with deliciousness, wine starts flowing and the tempo of the conversation picks up. Food is often also a love that can be shared amongst strangers or friends - I’m even convinced if you put the world’s most adversarial countries together with a great plate of pasta and a chianti, world peace would soon follow.
Unfortunately, in these challenging times there are those that need a little bit of extra help. Our society is only as strong as our weakest links and the amazing restauranteurs below have made it their job to make those links as strong as possible. As we all give thanks this holiday season, give an extra thank you to the folks below; and don’t forget to tip your servers too.
Every small town/city seems to have that one nicer place to go when you have family in town and you want to step things up just a little bit. In Naples, that honor goes to the timeless Ridgway’s on 3rd St. in Naples. The inside is a classic country club feel with a wonderful wrap-around patio that makes for delightful al fresco dining, weather permitting. My go to is the shrimp and grits
ARTICLE BY MR. BITES
PHOTOGRAPHY BY RESPECTIVE RESTAURANTS
- buttery and decadent with the classic bite of the freshest Gulf shrimp…and for years, I’ve thought on the legend of their Crispy Fish! For dessert, one of the best in town is the snowball - dark chocolate surrounded by fresh and flaky coconut cream icing! Yes, Ridgway’s is a wonderful place for a great meal, but what makes Tony Ridgway’s place even more special is the FORTY-ONE different local organizations to which they have donated.
Over on Marco, there’s the unassuming, unpretentious and utterly awesome Italian Deli & Market. The high quality Italian food is as straight ahead as the name. The only surprises you’re going to find is how surprisingly delicious all the Italian classics can be. As someone who measures red-sauce Italian by the Chicken Parm and and the classic sub, I can confirm that both of these pass with flying colors, the colors being Red, White and Green! Besides blessing us with their food, they also do a great chunk of charitable giving. Our Daily Bread and Meals of Hope
are just a few organizations which Italian Deli & Market gives.
Finally, The Aielli Group, owners of Barbatella, Grappino, and Sea Salt, have been giving back to the community for many years, to organizations as diverse as Youth Haven, The Shelter for Abused Women and Children, and The Naples Botanical Garden. To me, the sharpest arrow in their quiver is Barbatella. Delicious crisp pizzas, great octopus and a modest-in-size, but enormous-in-quality pasta list all hit the mark. The bullseye for me, when it’s on the menu, is their seafood pasta - it’s savory, but not too salty to allow the flavor of the briny sweet delicious sea creatures to shine through with a broth/sauce that aims to please and never fails.
When you’re enjoying the holiday season, please follow the lead of these wonderful establishments and give back to local charities that become the lifeline to so many in our community…and when you’re giving back, your time is worth as much, if not more, than your money.
Yours in deliciousness, Mr. Bites.

H O P E
with YOU
The holidays have a way of calling us back to what matters most—faith, family, compassion, and the quiet but powerful act of giving. As lights go up and calendars fill, there are still many who sit in silence, carrying burdens too heavy to bear alone. But what if this season, you could be the spark that changes everything for someone else?
The founders of City Lifestyle, through their private foundation, are once again launching its annual Christmas Giving Campaign—a heartfelt effort to seek out and support individuals and families who have quietly fallen through the cracks. The mission is simple: to bring light, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.
Since its beginning just four years ago, this initiative has grown from a humble idea into a life-changing movement. Last Christmas alone, more than 200 families across the country received unexpected support—financial relief, but also something even more powerful.
“We don’t just send checks,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”
Together with City Lifestyle President Matthew Perry, Steven has helped shape this into a tradition that goes far beyond charity. “This is about community,” Matthew adds. “We believe we’ve been blessed, so now we get to be a blessing.”
Every story begins with a nomination. Often, it’s a neighbor, coworker, friend, or teacher—someone who’s been quietly carrying too much for too long. One past recipient, after receiving unexpected support during a time of deep personal struggle, wrote:
SCAN TO NOMINATE
“We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”
“Beyond the very practical solution of receiving funds to fix my car, this thing you guys worked together to do is bigger than that. I carry the Christmas card you sent in my purse. When things get really hard, I pull it out and remember what it felt like to be seen. That card represents hope— that change for the better is possible. I’m not sure how many people get to carry hope around in their purse. But I do.”
Another wrote in after her husband was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer and unable to work:
“This support has blessed our family not only financially, but emotionally and spiritually as we trust God to meet our needs throughout this difficult time. Thank you to our anonymous friend and to your foundation. What a joy and gift to be part of God’s family!”
Each year brings countless stories like these—real lives touched by simple acts of kindness. Some use the funds to pay overdue bills, others to afford groceries, medication, or repairs. But no matter the circumstance, the impact is the same: hope is restored.
This season, you have the opportunity to be part of that. The campaign is now open to nominations—completely confidential and prayerfully considered. Whether it’s someone battling illness, facing unemployment, or just in need of a helping hand, you can bring them a moment of grace that will ripple far beyond Christmas morning.
“Knowing my mom was chosen filled my heart with indescribable joy,” said another past recipient. “Your generosity doesn’t just brighten her life; it inspires hope and faith in all of us. It enables her to stay in her home and get back on her feet.”
Nominations are open from November 1st to December 5th, 2025. To submit someone you know, simply scan the QR code or visit @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the nomination form in the bio.
This holiday season, let’s give more than gifts. Let’s give each other the gift of being seen. Because sometimes, the smallest gesture becomes someone’s greatest miracle.
To nominate someone in need, visit: KingdomBuildingFoundation.org or scan the QR code.
