October in Palm Beach: Embracing the Season’s Subtle Splendor

As October unfolds in Palm Beach, there's a distinct sense of renewal in the air—a gentle reminder that while we may not see the dramatic shifts of autumn that occur in other parts of the world, our version of fall is no less special. The sun still warms our shores, the palm trees stand tall, and the ocean’s hues remain vibrant. Yet, there’s a subtle shift, a refreshing breeze that signals the start of a season that brings us back together.

This time of year, our community takes on a unique rhythm. Snowbirds return, infusing our town with familiar faces and rekindled friendships. The excitement of a new school year brings a renewed sense of purpose and possibility. At the same time, we are reminded of nature’s quiet miracles, like the baby sea turtles hatching along our beaches, embarking on their first journey to the sea under the watchful gaze of the autumn sky. And while our temperatures cool slightly, they remain perfect for enjoying the outdoors, whether it’s a morning walk on the Lake Trail or an afternoon spent at Mount's Botanical Gardens.

In this issue, we embrace the essence of Fall in the Palm Beaches—a season where tradition meets the ever-present beauty of our surroundings. We explore the stories of those who call this place home year-round, as well as those who return to soak in its perennial charm.

Within these pages, you’ll discover recipes that embody the season’s spirit, events that highlight the charitable heart of our community, and nods to the dedication and passion of our local philanthropic organizations as they prepare for the months ahead. You’ll find information on local gatherings - everything from moonlight yoga sessions to new eateries to cocktail parties. This is a time of reflection and anticipation, where the memories of summer blend with the excitement of what lies ahead.

As we welcome October in all its quiet splendor, we’re reminded of the unique joys that living in Palm Beach offers. It’s a time to slow down, reconnect, and appreciate the simple pleasures of life in our beautiful community. We’re honored to share this journey with you and look forward to celebrating the many moments that make this season truly special.

With warmest regards,

October 2024

It’s Pumpkin Bread Season

The Perfect Recipe For Some Autumn Comfort

Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

• 1 teaspoon baking soda

• 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

• 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

• 1 teaspoon nutmeg

• 1/2 teaspoon ginger

• 1 teaspoon salt

• 1 1/2 cups canned pumpkin

• 1 1/2 cups sugar

• 2 teaspoon vanilla extract

• 1/2 cup vegetable oil or canola oil

• 1/2 cup melted butter

• 2 eggs

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2. In a mixing bowl, add the flour, baking soda and baking powder, spices, and salt. Set aside.

3. Combine the oil, butter, and vanilla in a liquid measuring cup.

4. In a mixing bowl (with a paddle attachment), beat the pumpkin, sugar, and eggs until combined.

5. Turn the mixer to low and slowly add the liquid ingredients. Let this process take about 1 to 2 minutes so the mixture becomes light and fluffy.

6. Using a spatula, fold the dry ingredients into the wet and slowly fold until the ingredients are blended.

7. Prepare a 10 x 5 loaf pan by buttering it really well and then adding a strip of parchment paper to the bottom and up the sides for easy removal.

8. Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 1 hour. The bread will be fully risen in the center, like a loaf. Make sure it’s fully cooked and brown on the top otherwise it will fall in the middle once removed from the oven.

“Despite market fluctuations nationwide, Palm Beach has continued to maintain and even increase its value.”

Situated on the tranquil shores of Ibis Isle, the newly completed home at 2291 Ibis Isle Rd E in Palm Beach epitomizes modern luxury. Spanning over 5,200 square feet, this residence seamlessly blends contemporary design with state-of-the-art technology. Listed at $13,895,000, the property sold for $12,500,000 after just 104 days on the market, highlighting its exceptional appeal.

Christopher Deitz and Michael Costello of Compass represented the seller's side while The Kraver Team at Douglas Elliman, which includes Sasha Kraver Aronberg along with her mother Valentina and her sister Isabella, represented the buyer. “Despite market fluctuations nationwide, Palm Beach Island has continued to maintain and even increase its value," Sasha explains. "The North End and central Palm Beach Island have seen substantial growth, while Ibis Isle, once considered a quieter area, is now gaining prominence as a luxury destination. It offers a better value compared to the North End and is conveniently located just minutes from Worth Avenue and the Southern bridge.”

The approach to this home sets the tone for its refined elegance. The sleek architecture, framed by lush greenery, stands gracefully against the Intracoastal Waterway's shimmering backdrop. Floor-to-ceiling windows dominate the facade, inviting the warm Florida sun to flood the interior and offering breathtaking, uninterrupted views of the water. This integration of indoor and outdoor spaces creates a sense of openness and tranquility that is immediately striking.  Upon entering, the home's sophisticated design is immediately apparent. Natural light pours in through expansive glass walls, enhancing the airy, welcoming ambiance. The state-of-the-art Crestron Smart Home System provides effortless control of lighting, music,

and climate, making luxury living both convenient and intuitive. With a simple touch, the environment adjusts to your preferences, redefining modern comfort.

The gourmet kitchen is a centerpiece of the home, designed to cater to both casual cooks and professional chefs. High-end appliances, custom cabinetry, and a thoughtfully designed layout make it both functional and visually stunning. The marble used in the bathrooms and around the fireplace adds an element of timeless elegance, meticulously matched to ensure a cohesive aesthetic throughout the home.

Stepping outside, the backyard reveals a lush, private oasis. A large heated lap pool sparkles under the Florida sun, accompanied by a spa that invites relaxation. The spacious covered loggia is ideal for al fresco dining, offering a perfect setting for entertaining or enjoying quiet moments with serene waterfront views. This space embodies the essence of indoor-outdoor living, blending luxury with natural beauty.

The appeal of South Florida has surged post-COVID, with many buyers drawn to the area’s favorable tax environment, warm climate, and relaxed lifestyle. “The shift to remote work has made South Florida an attractive option for those seeking a change,” Sasha explains. “Luxury buyers are drawn here for lower real estate taxes, better weather, and a more relaxed lifestyle. Additionally, the growth of downtown West Palm Beach, dubbed the ‘Wall Street of the South,’ has made the area even more appealing.”

Sasha observes that many post-COVID buyers are relocating from the Northeast, including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. “A significant number of our clients are former ‘snowbirds’ looking to make Palm Beach County their permanent home,” she adds.

Ibis Isle, once considered a quieter area, is now gaining prominence as a luxury destination. “ ”

In Sasha's opinion, the importance of local expertise in finding the right property cannot be overstated. “Palm Beach County is vast, and finding the best fit for your needs requires a knowledgeable guide,” she advises.

“Whether you’re interested in privacy, square footage, or amenities, a local realtor can provide essential insights and help you navigate the market.”

The growth of North County, including Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, and North Palm Beach, reflects a trend of young professionals and families seeking better value and a more comfortable lifestyle.

“Real estate is fundamentally about relationships,” Sasha concludes. “From understanding each client’s unique needs to collaborating with top agents and agencies, we strive to provide exceptional service and make the moving process as smooth as possible.”

The home at 2291 Ibis Isle Rd E is more than just a residence— it represents a luxurious lifestyle that harmonizes contemporary design with the natural beauty of Palm Beach. It’s a prime example of the elegance and convenience that define the area, offering a perfect blend of indoor-outdoor living and sophisticated comfort.

ELEVATE YOUR CLOSET

Every woman dreams of an organized and beautiful closet space, but it often comes last on the list of places that get their time and attention. Follow our nine tips for transforming and elevating your closet. How you organize your closet will of course differ based on the size of your space, the size of your wardrobe, and the kind of life you lead. But applying these guidelines will result in a much more organized and aesthetically pleasing space.

FACE CLOTHES THE SAME DIRECTION

It may seem silly, but when dealing with a small space, little things count. Hanging all clothes the same direction is a no-brainer for continuity in your closet.

8 WAYS TO ORGANIZE AND INJECT STYLE INTO YOUR SPACE
ARTICLE BY HALEY WILLIAMS | PHOTOGRAPHY
BY CASSANDRA CASTANEDA

USE REAL ESTATE WISELY

Reserve the front and middle of the closet for clothes worn most often. For someone who gets dressed for work each morning at 6 a.m., work clothes should be at the front of the closet. Store lesser-worn items like formal wear and out-of-season clothes toward the back and on the upper shelves. A large mirror and counter with chair provides the perfect spot to select jewelry and finalize finishing outfit touches. While every closet is different, the key here is everything has a home.

NEGATIVE SPACE

Using space efficiently is important, but keep in mind every good design includes some negative space. For instance, consider adding built-ins on the long wall of your closet but keep the short wall open with a mirror.

HIDDEN STORAGE

Hidden storage is a game changer in keeping a closet visually clean. Tuck folded clothes behind closed cabinet doors if the space is multipurpose. The floor-toceiling built-ins in Keri’s closet contain folded clothes, athleisure and other items she needs as she gets ready each day. Tuck away the least-used items: Use hidden storage and the very top of the closet for out-of-season items and stuff only worn a few times a year.

ORGANIZE BY KIND AND COLOR

Group clothes by kind first and color second. This ensures quick location of that favorite shirt when it’s needed. Bonus - it’s easy on the eye. Group like with like: Gather belts, sweaters, long-sleeve shirts, work pants, dresses, button-down shirts, jeans, shorts, etc., and decide the best place to store each item as a group (e.g., hang pants in the closet, fold and stack sweaters in a bureau). Working with groupings will help you figure out how much space you need and the best way to store each type of item.

UPGRADED HANGERS

The simplest and fastest way to make a BIG difference in your closet organization is to get matching hangers that go beyond the traditional plastic or wire hangers. And for sure ditch any with paper from the dry cleaner!

BAG & SHOE STORAGE

Alternate the way shoes are facing. This ultimately helps fit more on each row and provide a visually appealing way to display those prized possessions.

Everyone understands the frustration of searching for that one clutch when rushing out for the evening. Bags benefit from a space all their own. Get clear container storage for small bags and purses so you can locate and access them easily.

MAKE A STATEMENT

Why use an armchair when you have room for a sofa? Slide up a stool and colorful area rug to complete the look. If you have excessive wall space, consider a mini gallery wall or a statement wall with wallpaper to polish things off.

CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP

This hearty chicken noodle soup is the perfect comfort food that is packed with nutritious goodness. This pairs perfectly with homemade beer bread or a sourdough loaf.

INGREDIENTS:

• 8 cups chicken broth (add more if desired)

• Whole fryer chicken, cut in chunks or shredded

• 5 celery stalks, sliced

• 8 carrots, sliced

• ½ onion diced

• 4 tablespoons butter

• 1 teaspoon italian seasoning

• ¼ cup half and half (optional)

• 1 package egg noodles

• Salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS:

In a large stock pot, add 8 cups of chicken broth. Dice carrots, celery and onion and add to the broth. Bring to a boil, and reduce to medium heat until the vegetables are soft. In the meantime, skin and cube 1 whole fryer chicken and add to the stock pot. Next, add egg noodles (frozen Reames homemade egg noodles are my favorite) and let boil until noodles are cooked. Add butter, half and half, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Simmer on low until ready to serve.

Lavender Bath Salt Blend

what you need

16 ounces Bokek Dead Sea Salt 20 drops lavender essential oil

what you do

In a mixing bowl, add drops of the essential oil to the bath salt and mix well; store in a glass jar. Add 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the scented salts to a bath for a relaxing experience. SeaSalt.com

Yield: 1 pound

2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting 4 large eggs

what you do

1. Mound the flour in the center of a work surface with a well in the middle. Crack the eggs into the well and beat with a fork until smooth, then work flour into eggs with the fork. Use a bench scraper to work in the rest of the flour a little at a time. When the flour is incorporated, form the dough with your hands into a rounded mass for kneading. Lightly dust your workspace with flour and knead dough about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Cover dough with a bowl or plastic wrap and rest 1 1/2 hours, or chill overnight.

2. To roll by hand, flour a clean work surface. Vigorously roll dough to a very thin circle and roll constantly with even pressure as it stretches for several minutes until as thin as possible, almost translucent.

3. To cut by hand, lightly fold sheets one at a time into thirds and cut to desired thickness. Recipe from MarthaStewart.com

Dark Chocolate Truffles

what you need

1/2 cup heavy cream

8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 cup cocoa powder, for dusting

what you do

1. Bring the cream to just a simmer in a saucepan over low heat. Pour the cream over the chocolate in a bowl and let stand about 10 minutes to melt the chocolate. Add the vanilla, stir until smooth and set aside to cool for 1 hour at room temperature.

2. Beat chocolate at medium speed until thick and light-colored. Spread over the bottom of a baking dish, smooth and refrigerate 2 hours until firm.

3. Pour cocoa powder onto a deep plate or shallow bowl, and using a melon baller or small ice cream scoop, scoop out balls of chocolate. Roll in cocoa powder until coated and transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Recipe from FoodNetwork.com
