Take a bite of this!

Hello fall, y’all!

Now that seasons are beginning to shift, mostly, it's inevitable that we also begin to shift toward everything comfy and cozy. Every October, we like to take a moment to celebrate the unique food and drink offerings in our city. It's probably one of our favorite issues to put together.

We were privileged this month to learn more about the exciting updates at Little Joe's Farmstead as well as share a round-up of all the fun eateries around town. Most importantly, though, we were lucky enough to sit down with the owner of Prestige Nail Studio to hear her story of strength in her battle against breast cancer.

For me, autumn will always remind me of my grandmother. It was during this time of the year that she would always make cabbage rolls. She frequently held "Cabbage Roll Classes" for family members and the sounds of laughter, sizzling food, and more will always fill me with joy.

Food is special. It connects us to our past while also bringing us together in the here and now. Whether you’re enjoying a meal out with friends or hosting a cozy dinner at home, these shared moments are what make life flavorful.

Here’s to savoring every moment this fall,

October 2025

A SURVIVOR’S MISSION: Beauty Without Compromise

A SPACE WHERE BEAUTY AND HEALTH GO HAND IN HAND.

ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARENELL | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAVANNA ROMANO

In 2018, Sibley Varghese sought the advice of her doctor after experiencing abnormal pain that she could not ignore. Initial tests, including a mammogram, ultrasound, and biopsy, revealed that she had early-stage breast cancer. However, what she first thought would be a few months of treatment, soon turned into something much more as further scans revealed the cancer had already spread to several other places. This discovery launched Sibley into several years of treatment and the unknown.

“For the first time in my life, I didn’t have any type of schedule, and I didn't know what I was going to do,” she shares.

“Some days I felt like giving up, but I have this amazing village of family, friends, and the community who came together, prayed over us, and helped us in so many ways. When I couldn't get things done, others did for me, and I will always be grateful for that.”

As she recalls her journey, Sibley encourages women to be proactive and pursue having yearly mammograms, stressing that this fast and simple test could have potentially caught her cancer years earlier.

After experiencing the ups and downs of treatment, the summer of 2020 brought the great news of no cancer detected in Sibley’s most recent scan! Two more scans over the next year yielded the same results and in 2021, Sibley was cleared to resume normal life… with some limitations. Treatments and ongoing maintenance therapy compromised her immune system, so returning to her previous career as a nurse was not a good option. With her husband’s encouragement, Sibley realized it was a great time to try something new.

“I remembered that back in 2018, when I met with the chemotherapy team, they have a do's and don'ts sheet for you to go over,” says Sibley. “One of the don'ts was getting nail services like manicures and pedicures from nail salons. That stuck out to me because I was one who loved to get pedicures and thought while on chemo, that could be my relaxing time.”

“Some days I felt like giving up, but I have this amazing village of family, friends, and the community...”

“Many people have experienced some kind of nail infection. However, you don't realize it because your body just fights it or you treat it with ointment and it goes away,” she explains. “For people like us who are immunocompromised, diabetic, or elderly, those infections are not just a little nuisance, they could be life-changing. So, I use my nursing experience and how we sterilized things and bring that into the salon setting, making it safe for anyone who walks through my doors.”

In addition to prioritizing proper sanitation and sterilization of instruments, Sibley is committed to carrying the cleanest, safest products available. The studio is also well known for its talented technicians who excel in nail art.

With a new sense of purpose, Sibley set out to learn about nail care and how to make it as safe as possible for clients. She became licensed as a nail technician but as she worked in other salons, she realized that to achieve the level of safety and cleanliness she desired, she would have to open her own studio. So, Sibley opened Prestige Nail Studio in January 2025, providing a safe place for children, adults, and those who are immunocompromised to enjoy being pampered.

For Sibley, Prestige Nail Studio represents more than simply a place for nail care; it is a place of hope. “When I was diagnosed, I thought my life was over,” she says. “I thought I'd never be able to do the things that I wanted to do, but God had other plans, and he opened up this other door for me, which gives me a lot more joy and happiness than I ever thought I would have.”

Prestige Nail Studio is located at 125 FM 407 Suite 106 in Argyle. For more information, visit prestigenailsalonofargyle.com, call 940-400-5452, and follow @prestigenailstudioargyle on Instagram.

SMALL TOWN ROOTS WITH A LARGER THAN LIFE PURPOSE

Little Joe’s Farmstead

Jim Reid, owner of Little Joe's.
““We want to provide more than just good food, and a good time...”

When people talk about Texas, there are several things that come to mind: the Alamo, cattle drives, cowboys and cowgirls, the Texas Rangers (both the baseball team and the law enforcement agency), and the Fort Worth Stockyards.

It's not as common for one to hear about all the small rural Texas towns, and the hard-working families that are woven so tightly together through the brightest and darkest of times. One of those hard-working residents is Jim Reid, owner of Little Joe's Farmstead.

When Jim's son had cancer for the second time, Jim found himself focusing on so much more than the statistics and hospitals that he visited. “Those dark times are where it all began. It brought me back to north Texas from Houston where I was living. Maybe it’s because of my small-town Texas roots, but I’ve always wanted to give back to my community,” Jim explains with an uplifting tone.

Jim Reid’s vision for Little Joe’s Farmstead came alive almost instantly when he moved to Bartonville in 2021, and he saw firsthand how much he had missed the small town camaraderie.

The missing piece of that puzzle came along once he laid eyes on Little Joe’s Farmstead, a historic part of Argyle for more than a half century - once used as a residence, fueling station, grocery and market. It was there that he found purpose, and passion to bring his idea of giving back to his community.

“It’s the way that people welcome people from near and far and open their arms and take the shirt from their backs for those in need. That’s something that is

so synonymous with Texas. One of the first people that welcomed me, and my idea of Little Joe’s Farmstead was Marty Bryan, owner of Marty B’s. Marty B., I’ll never forget that, and I’ll never be able to say thank you enough to him for how much he welcomed our idea to repurpose Little Joe’s Farmstead. Having somebody like Marty B. who is such a legend in this area for his music, restaurants, and his soon to open event venue, is more than I ever imagined for a welcome back to the area.”

Jim's goals for Little Joe’s Farmstead are simple. “We aim to give back to our community for decades to come. We want to provide more than just good food, and a good time for our great community. We also hope to always be able to fund those in need through donations made to our passion project, the Texas Children’s Hospital.”

The warm and inviting café, completed with a porch, provides a comfortable family-friendly atmosphere for anything from a lunch get together with a co-worker, to a family dinner, or onsite catered event for a company shindig. The chicken enchiladas and Aly’s beach sandwich are two of their most popular food items while the apple pie is the favorite seller in their ice cream store.

“We’re open from 7am to 2pm on Sunday and Monday and 7am to 7pm Tuesday through Saturday. We can’t wait to meet you and welcome you to our community in Argyle,” Jim says in an ecstatic tone.

Be sure to check out Little Joe’s Farmstead happenings on their event page on their website and cater your next family get together at https://www. littlejoesfarmstead.com/.

SPIRIT OF STEWARDSHIP

Goodnight Loving Vodka began with a spark at a family spring in Texas Hill Country. Co-founders Tim Osburn and his son Timothy were inspired by the pristine artesian water on their ranch, a resource so pure it could be enjoyed straight from the ground.

“We knew we had stumbled across something big,” Timothy recalled of their early experiments that evolved into an award-winning vodka.

Since then, the brand has carved its place in the competitive spirits industry. Goodnight Loving Vodka became the first Texas-made spirit to earn a Platinum Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition,

a feat requiring three consecutive Double Golds. Tim noted that the recognition was like “winning a Best Picture Oscar” — a rare achievement that validated the family’s vision and craftsmanship.

At the heart of the company’s identity is its commitment to stewardship. Long before vodka production began, the family prioritized land and water conservation on their ranch. They continue to remove invasive cedar and brush to protect the spring’s flow and improve wildlife habitat. Their conservation ethos extends to their bottling facility, which employs rainwater collection, xeriscaping and low-flow fixtures.

A father-son team turns pristine spring water into a world-class vodka while preserving Texas’ natural resources for future generations

“We don’t waste a single drop,” Tim said, emphasizing their broader mission to safeguard Texas’s fragile water resources.

Looking ahead, the Osburns are planning a brand refresh and eventual expansion to larger facilities. Their goals are ambitious: to grow globally, increase charitable giving and remain true to their roots.

“Our spark was our crystal-clear artesian spring,” Tim said. “It’s our true celebrity.”

For the father-and-son team, the legacy of Goodnight Loving Vodka lies not only in its accolades but in its commitment to quality, stewardship and family.
