Dear Dad, Thanks

Last month, we focused on the mothers and women in our lives. This month, we’re taking a look at the men. Whether you are a father by blood or by right, you are making such an impact on your home as well as on your family.

My dad worked a lot when I was a kid, but I'll never forget him taking a break on a hot summer day to take 5-year-old Kellie to the gas station down the road for an ice cream bar. I remember taking my time eating so I could spend as much time with him as possible. It was rare to have time with him, just the two of us like that, and I didn't want to waste it.

Mothers may be the glue that holds us together, but fathers are the foundation upon which our lives are built. They build our confidence, inspire, guide us, challenge us, and sometimes annoy us in the process. As my dad would say, "It's his job!" And it most certainly is.

What are some ways that you can let your father, or your father figure, know that he's made an impact on your life? Our recommendation will always be to pick up the phone and give him a call. Your words will have a greater impact than you could realize. If there are any dads reading this, we just want to say thank you. You hold space and a purpose to those who know you, need you, and respect you.

Happy Father’s Day! This one's for you, papa bear.

xx,

June 2025

Balancing A Friendship and Business Partnership

ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARNELL
PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAVANNA ROMANO
Friends Brandon Moon and Rafael Pinho combine expertise to help local business owners

A serendipitous meeting through the Northlake chapter of F3, a workout group for men that emphasizes Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith, is what sparked the beginning of a friendship between Brandon Moon and Rafael Pinho. That friendship would eventually grow into a business partnership and the founding of TD Pine Advisors, a strategic advisory firm focused on helping business owners build long-term value and future options in their business.

Brandon, with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, initially founded a consulting business on his own and contacted Rafael, a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), to help with the financial aspects of a client’s business plan. It quickly became apparent that working together under the same business umbrella would give clients better access to a wider range of expertise.

“We are very well aligned in a common purpose and mission but come at it from different angles,” explained Rafael. “I'm more about how things translate to numbers, but I know nothing about how to execute some strategies like Brandon does. At the same time, I’m keeping Brandon accountable for the results of those strategies, whether in our business or in our clients’ businesses.”

Through TD Pine Advisors, Brandon and Rafael help business owners gain financial clarity, strengthen the value of their company, and turn what has often been a demanding job into a strategic asset—one that supports both future plans and longterm wealth. “There are so many business owners who have this plan that their business is going to be their retirement, but they’ve never put pencil to paper about the details, like who is going to buy the business, how are they going to sell it, and what is the value,” said Brandon. “Our aim is to provide clarity on options and what an exit strategy might look like.”

“So every day, not only are we growing the business, but we’re also growing ourselves, personally and professionally, making this less like a job and more like a lifestyle.”

and from all sectors including retail, real estate, medical offices, and more.

With the firm belief that great conversations take place over a cup of coffee, the pair recently launched a coffee brand, Value Climb, to support small business owners through community events. The brand's proceeds fund events to bring business owners together and give them access to a knowledge base that they would not get otherwise.

Their hands-on approach is driven by getting to know the specific details of each business and developing tailored strategies based on each situation, instead of making businesses fit into cookie-cutter formulas.

Although both Brandon and Rafael have experience with large corporations, they want to cultivate a lifestyle of pouring into local businesses and giving small business owners access to expert advising and strategies in their own community. They work with businesses of all sizes, whether newly started or well established,

Nurturing a business relationship and friendship comes naturally to Brandon and Rafael, who have a friendly rapport and genuinely enjoy working together to help others. “My favorite part of working with Rafa is being challenged every day. We have backgrounds that complement each other so well that when one of us has a blind spot, the other fills it,” shared Brandon. “So every day, not only are we growing the business, but we're also growing ourselves, personally and professionally, making this less like a job and more like a lifestyle.”

THE STORY OF FROSTY DRIVE N AND THE FAMILY BEHIND IT.

FROSTY DR IVE N

Patrick Webb and his family.

Known for their delicious burgers and famous home-made root beer float, Frosty Drive N proved to be much more than your average restaurant. I was given the opportunity to sit down

began car hopping! Patrick recalls a time when he was younger where an adult made a comment about “flipping burgers for the rest of his life” while he was in school. Patrick was able to laugh

“...FROSTY’S IS MORE OF AN EXPERIENCE RATHER THAN JUST A FOOD PLACE.”

and speak with Patrick Webb, owner of Frosty Drive N. Frosty Drive N was originally opened in 1954 and was re-established in 1964 in Denton, Texas. The restaurant was started by Patrick's grandfather and grandmother, Jack and Judy Webb, and was passed down to Patrick's father, Randy Webb. After many years of successfully owning Frosty’s, Randy has since given Patrick the honor of taking over. Although Frosty’s began as a drive in only establishment, it has since evolved into a reliable place the community can sit and enjoy themselves.

Patrick has been working at his family's restaurant since he was about 6 years old. One of his earliest memories at Frosty’s was filling an ice bucket to help out, and he recalls not being able to lift the bucket to bring back up to the front. At 9 years old, he was given the promotion of a lifetime, and he

off the comment made, as he was very happy about the life he was creating for him and his family, and he continued working with his family and growing the restaurant.

With many years of experience, Frosty Drive N runs like a well oiled machine. With Patrick's father seamlessly running the back of the restaurant, Patrick has taken over working the front where he is able to interact with all of their guests who stop by for a bite to eat. Patrick enjoys getting to speak with the guests who come in and get to know his possible new regulars. One of his favorite things about working in this restaurant, aside from being with his family, is the customers! Since Frosty’s has been around for many years, the family has been given the pleasure of having generations of families as regulars throughout the years. Even while I was there visiting, a man

came in to grab a root beer float and said he has been coming to Frosty’s since he was a child.

What stands out about Frosty Drive N is the immense amount of nostalgia that hits you walking through the doors. Frosty’s is a gem that has held the test of time with its old style diner look and feel. In this world of fast paced lunches and always being on the go, Frosty’s compels you to slow down and really enjoy yourself. If you are in a rush however, don't worry, they’ve got you covered for your quick lunch breaks! Patrick says it best, “We aren’t in a hurry around here, but we are fast!”

Frosty Drive N has been a staple for many community members for years. From putting on car shows to serving amazing food with awesome service, the passion the family has for their long standing restaurant really shines through. If you haven’t visited Frosty’s yet, I implore you to stop by when you get the chance. Frosty Drive N is located at 1002 Fort Worth Dr, Denton, TX 76205, and is sure to have you leaving full and smiling!

We just completed our third project with Juline I would highly recommend Juline and her crew without reserve - Melissa Reid

EDUCATING and EQUIPPING

SHOP

During Johnny Johnson’s years of working in a hardware store, he learned that although many people want to tackle projects themselves, they often lack the knowledge and the appropriate specialty tools necessary for those projects. So Johnny founded Shop Drop, a local tool rental company that offers specialty tools and equipment for home improvement projects, vehicle maintenance, and lawn care.

Customers can rent individual tools such as a miter saw, woodchipper, air compressor, carpet extractor, or pressure washer for specific tasks or rent a trailer full of tools and specialty equipment to take on larger projects. “If you are working on rebuilding a car, you can rent a trailer that comes with a toolbox, floor jack, engine crane, and all the different stuff to work on a car,” says Johnny. “If it’s home maintenance, the trailer comes with saws, drills, a shop vac…. things like that, and the same type of thing for yard maintenance. So you can rent this whole trailer full of tools and equipment for you and your neighbors, or you and a group of friends, to do a project on the weekend and have everything you need without having to run back and forth to the store. Plus, we bring it all to you and drop it off, then pick it up when you’re done.”

CONTINUED >

“I WANT TO HELP YOU LEARN HOW TO DO THINGS THAT you CAN HAVE FUN DOING yourself but MAY NOT KNOW HOW TO DO.”

By making the tools available to rent, Johnny is addressing the problem of having easy access to specialty tools. However, his heart behind the business is to help people learn how to tackle projects themselves. So now he is taking on the educational aspect of DIY projects by offering classes that cover basic skills that relate to vehicle maintenance, home improvement projects, and lawn care.

For example, vehicle maintenance classes will cover topics such as how to change oil in a vehicle and plugging a leaky tire, which includes what materials drivers need to keep in their vehicles to plug a tire and how to successfully plug the tire, even on the side of the road. Home improvement classes will provide hands-on instruction for skills such as sawing wood at an angle, putting up trim, and installing cabinets.

“I want to help you learn how to do things you can have fun doing yourself but that you may not know how to do,” explains Johnny. “I hope that when you start having an appreciation for doing stuff on your own and doing some projects yourself, that will make you branch out and do other projects you haven't done before. Once you have a knowledge base for one thing, you can figure out another thing because you know the basic concept of tools, how they work, and what you need to do.”

Another educational resource Johnny is developing, includes creating videos on best practices for using each type of tool or piece of equipment, and linking the videos to the tools using a QR code. These tutorials will provide valuable insight into using each piece of equipment effectively, which leads to successful projects.

“I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT WE ARE HERE TO help BECAUSE YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO much knowledge ABOUT HOW TO DO THINGS.”

“I want people to know that we are here to help because you can never have too much knowledge about how to do things,” shares Johnny. “Even if you want to pay somebody to do it for you, it's good to know how to do it yourself just so you know you're not being overcharged. Or maybe you just want a fun project to do with the family and spend way less money than having a professional come and do it. We can help with all of that.”

THE MEN OF Argyle Community Church

Building community for the men in Argyle, Texas.

ARTICLE BY KENNEDY WOOD | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAVANNA ROMANO

Argyle Community Church has been a gathering place for its surrounding community for many years now. As you can probably tell, community is the big word at this church. Argyle Community Church offers many different ways for its members to connect with each other and with their faith. One way this happens is through the monthly men's gathering, F3. F3 stands for faith, fellowship, and fellas. This gathering occurs monthly, and it is a way for the men in the church to come together for fellowship and to have a good time!

It can be difficult to find a good community to immerse yourself in, this is why F3 is such a great opportunity for those who are looking to create more meaningful friendships with like-minded people. “I was invited to an Indian food spot, and of course, I was game. I love food! But when I got there and saw all the brothers and the fellowship, I was truly intrigued,” says Louis “Bubba” Thomas. F3 is initially enticing because of the people and the great food, however, what gets people to stay is the fellowship and the desire to connect with others through the church.

Argyle Community Church has lots of different ways for F3 and its other members to bond, such as sports, camps, and a weekly church service where you get to see many of the same faces every Sunday. F3 is great for people of all ages, as the members range from teenagers to adults; this creates an opportunity for everyone to learn from each other as everyone is in a different walk of life. One story that stood out to me was from a member, Jimmy Dejewski. Jimmy Dejewski shared a story about his 10 year old son who was gaining new friends through his Sunday school at church and his school in Argyle, Texas. After some time Jimmy and his family decided it was time to find a church to attend locally and that drove them to Argyle Community Church! When stepping into ACC, Jimmy’s son immediately recognized several of his friends and peers and this church quickly became a second home for this family.

The F3 group builds a community for men that allows them to grow with one another and offer each other support in times of need. “Brotherhood is being a part of the family of Christ because of our allegiance to Jesus. We must display brotherhood first. Then encouraging men to walk with God, listening to them and asking them questions, and walking alongside them as they seek to abide in Jesus,” says Chay’vion Carter. Giving each other an outlet to share CONTINUED >

“When you get there and see that every man there truly wants the same thing as you which is community. It’s not a feeling, it’s reality. These guys just want to be served and be of service. No big “I”’s and little “U”’s. Just letting each other know that we’re not alone on this journey.”

-Louis “Bubba” Thomas

opportunities and struggles they may be going through creates an unbreakable bond between the members as they help each other navigate through this life we have been gifted.

Having a strong sense of community creates a positive impact on individuals lives, F3 knows the importance of this and does an amazing job of cultivating a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for anyone who feels called to join. “The World gives this idea of “being a man” as an independent journey and the strongest men can do it on their own. We disagree. Men are better off with each other. Being a husband, a father, an uncle, a son, a boss, and employee – these roles are tough. We believe coming together to love, encourage, and sharpen each other makes us stronger. This type of unity is exactly what God designed. So, we encourage any man in this community that feels alone to reach out – you matter, you are loved, you belong, and we want to walk this life out with you in a real way.”

SO YOU WANT TO BE A COWBOY

DISCOVER THE WHIMSY OF THE WEST AT PAWS UP MONTANA

Favorably referred to as the “Last Best Place” and the “Treasure State,” Montana has captured the hearts of cinematic cowboys like Taylor Sheridan and Harrison Ford and inspired the television series, “Yellowstone” and its prequels, “1883” and “1923.”

Though fictional, they’ve reminded America of its deeply-rooted spirit for adventure and the simple yet rugged way of life that we all crave. Whether its the backdrop of jagged, snowcapped peaks or the endless golden pastures that are peppered with livestock, this Rocky Mountain soil is a breeding ground for dreamers and doers, and the people who call it home are no strangers to the ritual of ranch life. So, you want to be a cowboy? Slipping on some leather and having a little hide in your hat are good ways to start, but visiting a resort that brings the best of this life to the forefront, while also embracing modern luxury, is the experience of a lifetime. Paws Up Montana sprawls the distance of 37,000 private acres of historic estate-land, which houses a working ranch and 10 miles of Blackfoot river. Personalization is key—a divine selection of cuisine for the foodies, awe-inspiring activities for the adrenaline seekers, and world-class lodging that tickles every fancy from stargazing glamping, to timber-style family dwellings, to the uniquely designed green “o hauses” that invite the outside world in.

WHAT TO DO

To change your attitude, you need a change in altitude. Gain some speed or turn up the adrenaline level with ATV tours, electric biking, mountain biking, go-karts, paintball, rappelling down Lookout Rock or whitewater rafting down the Blackfoot River. Indulge in the western art of living with archery, fly-fishing, hiking or sporting clays. For those who want to immerse themselves in the language of horses, there are horse-related adventures such as lessons, grooming or feeding, horse-whispering workshops or organized trails rides. Riders can also enjoy cattle drives that bring you back to yesteryear—driving a herd of cattle across the famed landscape— and bear witness to mustang gentling, where the Equestrian Manager communicates with a wild horse through body language and tone of voice. Skyline Aerial Adventure Park is another notable warm-weather activity, taking guests on two high-ropes courses.

WHERE TO STAY

Luxury Homes are categorized into preference-based properties that boast the thrill of wilderness living. For larger families and multigenerational groups, consider the Wilderness Estates. At 3,250-square-feet, these estates sleep up to eight guests and feature three large suites with private baths. The Big Timber Homes are available in one-to-three bedroom options and come ornamented with fire places and private decks. The Meadow Homes are 1,100-square-foot single-story homes that sleep up to four guests, situated amid a pastoral and treed setting. For an extra nod of perfection, choose one of the luxury homes that comes equipped with a private tent— ideal for anyone traveling with children (or adults who beckon back their childhood!).

For a more primitive experience, Glamping Homes offer the right amount of canvas to create a close-to-nature experience. Available mid-May through mid-October, choose from river settings to creeksides, bluffs or cliffs. Each tent is adorned with something unique—a copper tub, a picturesque view of Lewis and Clark’s famous Lookout Rock and Western-chic furniture throughout. Zip down the windows to allow for the cool nightly breeze, yet enjoy the modern convenience of electricity. Each campsite has a dining pavilion. And don’t miss the s’mores boards around the communal fire pit, offered by your own s’moresologist—yes, you read that right, and yea, it’s a thing.

Lastly, but certainly not least, are the state-ofthe-art accommodations of the Green O hauses. This portion of the property is completely curated for those 21 years of age and older. It’s a resort within a resort, a hidden pearl in an oyster of experience. The Tree Haus is elevated 23 feet in the air and offers unparalleled forest views. The Green Haus includes a skylight above the bed for an unmatched view of pluck-em-from-the-sky stars. The Round Haus has curved, floor-to-ceiling windows that offer 180-degree panoramic views. Both the Green and Round Hauses are dog friendly, too, so Fido can rest in the lap of luxury. The Light Haus is illuminated by skylights and unique glass design.

HOW

TO GET HERE

Airport: Missoula Montana Airport (MSO) Airport transfers from Missoula are complimentary for guests and all luxury home and Green O accommodations come with a Lexus luxury SUV for transportation use on property.

The Perfect Steak

Nothing describes summer better than a good cookout! And what is a cookout without a good, quality steak and the perfect grilling recipe?

1. Thaw and acclimate the steak. For searing to occur, the proteins in steak need to be heated to at least 310°F. Tossing cold meat onto a hot grill lowers the temperature and can prevent a crust from forming, so it’s important that any frozen steaks are thawed completely before cooking.

2. Salt your steak 30-45 minutes before grilling. This causes the salt to draw moisture from within the steak up to the surface, where it dissolves the salt and creates a brine that gets reabsorbed into the steak where it breaks down tough connective tissues.

3. Oil the grate on the grill, not the steak. Use tongs and a paper towel dipped in vegetable oil to lube your grates.

4. Manage your heat well. Remember that your grill needs to be hot for your steak to get a good sear. But if it’s hot enough to cause your oil to smoke, it’s too hot.

5. Use the 60/40 rule. The best-tasting steaks are seared on both sides and cooked evenly in the middle. The simplest way to do that is to only flip your steak once. The 60/40 rule suggests that 60% of your cook time should be spent on one side, and 40% on the other.

6. Keep the lid closed. It may be tempting to peek, but trust the experts and keep it shut! Opening the lid makes your grill lose heat, which makes steaks cook unevenly.

7. Check for doneness. A meat thermometer will give you the most accurate temperature reading:

• Rare: 120°F

• Medium Rare: 130°F

• Medium: 140°F

• Medium Well: 150°F

• Well: 160°F

8. Let your steak rest. Pull your steaks from the grill once they’re cooked to 5-10 degrees below your target temperature and rest for 10-15 minutes.
