Dear Readers,
Here in the Northern Highlands, summer has a way of turning up the volume on life. The days are longer, the weekends fill faster, and somehow there are more events, adventures, and ice cream stops than hours in a day. That’s exactly why our Explore Issue is packed with stories that celebrate getting out, trying something new, and rediscovering what makes our corner of the world so special.
I’m also thrilled to introduce myself as the new Sales Director for Northern Highlands and Ramapo Valley City Lifestyle. It’s an honor to be part of these publications that bring together local voices, businesses, and stories that truly reflect the heart of our community.
This month we kick things off with a heartfelt feature on Real Housewives of New Jersey star Rachel Fuda. In “Family Comes First” on page 14, she gets candid about balancing motherhood, fame, and her own definition of success. Whether or not you’ve seen the show, her story resonates with anyone trying to juggle family and ambition—with a little humor and a lot of heart.
If your suitcase has been whispering " use me ," turn to page 24 for our dreamy Bahamas travel feature—a sun-soaked escape filled with island charm, crystal blue water, and just enough envy to book that flight. (But maybe finish this issue first.)
Of course, not all getaways require a boarding pass. “The Ultimate Weekend Getaway Right in NJ” on page 32 proves that adventure is a lot closer than you think. From boutique inns to hidden hiking spots, this guide is your permission slip to hit pause and head out.
For those who prefer their exploration with a side of sprinkles, “Here’s the Scoop” on page 20 dishes up our favorite local ice cream shop. Bring your sweet tooth—and possibly a spare shirt.
We also take you behind the scenes at our Love Local party on page 36, where community, conversation, and celebration came together in one unforgettable night. (Spoiler: there were cocktails. And confetti.)
Hungry for more? “Branzino for Heroes” on page 12 highlights one local chef’s mission to serve something meaningful to those who serve us all.
No matter where this summer takes you, we hope this issue inspires you to explore more, smile often, and maybe stop for ice cream—just because.
Cheers,
July 2025

INGREDIENTS:
• 1½ to 2 pounds of Branzino fillet (or use Sea Bass, Flounder, or even Red Snapper)
• 3 tablespoons olive oil, separated
• 2 teaspoons lemon juice, plus the juice of one lemon
• ½ teaspoon lemon zest
• 2 large cloves garlic, crushed and finely minced, divided
• 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary
• Salt and pepper
• Flour for dusting
• ½ to 1 teaspoon Bomba (Calabrian chili paste)
• ½ cup dry white wine
• 1 pint grape tomatoes, halved
• 4 handfuls baby arugula
DIRECTIONS:
1. Season the Branzino fillets generously on both sides.
2. In a glass pie plate, whisk together 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, lemon zest, half the garlic, and rosemary. Add the fillets, turn to coat, and refrigerate for 20 minutes, flipping once.
3. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Remove fillets from marinade and dredge lightly in flour, shaking off excess.
4. Sear fillets skin-side down for 4 minutes or until golden and crisp. Flip and cook another 3 minutes, or until just cooked through. Transfer to a warm platter.
5. In the same pan, add remaining olive oil, then sauté the rest of the garlic and Bomba for 30 seconds. Pour in the wine and simmer until reduced by half. Add tomatoes and heat through. Stir in lemon juice and season to taste. 6. To serve, divide baby arugula among four plates, top with fish, and spoon the warm tomato mixture over. Pour any extra juices from the platter into the pan, swirl, and drizzle over everything.
Son of a gun! I promised myself I wouldn’t cry today—but then I pictured the new puppy licking my face… sob, sniff, sniff… whew. I gotta go.
For Rachel Fuda, star of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, fame isn’t the finish line—family is. While millions of Bravo fans know her for her polished style, quick wit, and reality TV presence, Fuda remains firmly grounded in her role at home.
“Being a mom is what defines me right now,” she shares. “This is a very temporary little-kid phase of life, and I’m trying to be as present as possible.”
That phase is a full one. Fuda and her husband, John, are raising four children, ranging from a newborn to a high school senior. Their dinner conversations span from college decisions to toddler tantrums—and somehow, she makes it all look seamless.
“I’m sending one son off to college and caring for a newborn at the same time,” she explains. “It’s full-circle chaos—but it’s beautiful.”
Fuda, who was born on Long Island and raised in Bergen County, now calls Franklin Lakes home. Staying close to her roots has always been important. “There’s something special about knowing who your kids go to school with, who your neighbors are. You don’t need to hang out every weekend, but it’s nice to be surrounded by familiar, good people.”
RACHEL FUDA - TV PERSONALITY

Style by: Cenia Paredes - @ceniany
Glam by: @kevinkelly.hair and @darianmarie_mua
Beyond her role on television, she’s a businesswoman. Together with her husband, she recently launched Glam Studio Suites in Norwood and helps operate Valet King, a tri-state parking concierge service. The workload is hefty, but the Fuda’s are clear on what matters.
“We’ve always known what’s important—family, marriage, and doing right by people,” she notes.
That clarity has helped her navigate the whirlwind of reality TV without losing herself. When she joined RHONJ, her youngest daughter Giuliana was just eight weeks old. “It was wild,” she laughs. “But we had a family conversation before committing. I wanted my oldest, Jaiden, to be comfortable with it. I’m really big on boundaries.”
Jaiden, now a high school senior, embraced the opportunity—and even enjoys his own local fame. “He walks the boardwalk in Seaside Heights and gets stopped by girls asking for pictures. He’s loving it.”
Still, the public spotlight has its downsides, especially online. Like many reality stars, Fuda has had to set clear boundaries with social media.
“I’ve been in therapy for a long time, and I’m a big advocate for mental health. People will judge everything—from your parenting to the color of your shorts,” she says with a wry smile. “But I’ve learned the less you read, the better. Ignorance really is bliss.”
Support comes not only from within her home, but also from her Bravo circle. Melissa and Joe Gorga—fellow castmates have become close friends. The families connected through their sons, who played youth football together, and that connection quickly deepened.
As for the show, Fuda takes a measured approach. She’s grateful for the experiences—attending the VMAs, meeting Bravo fans at BravoCon—but she keeps her life in perspective.
“The show is secondary to me. My life doesn’t change whether I’m on or off it,” she affirms. “What I have in my real life is what matters most.”
Looking ahead, she’s starting to think about the next phase. “Right now, I’m in survival mode,” she laughs. “But once the kids are all in school, I’d love to do something for myself. Write a book, maybe launch something new—something that fills my soul.”
Her outlook is shaped by the long view of parenting. “Your kids need you in different ways as they grow. When they’re older, I know I’ll need something for me, too—something that’s just mine.”
Giving back is already part of her story. Diagnosed with arthritis at just four years old, she had both hips replaced by 18. Today, she works closely with the Arthritis Foundation, hosting events and raising awareness for young people living with the condition.
“There were no resources when I was 14, going through all that. I felt so different from everyone else,” she shares. “Now I try to be the support I didn’t have.”
Through it all—motherhood, business, TV—her values haven’t wavered. “John always says, ‘One hand washes the other, and two hands wash a face.’ That’s how New Jersey works. That’s how we work.”
For Fuda, staying grounded in what matters most—family, community, and authenticity—is the real key to navigating it all.

For more than 25 years, Lori Polson built a career behind the scenes—connecting world-class portrait artists with collectors and clients. Today, she stepped out from behind the curtain and onto the canvas herself.
Polson, a Bergen County local and a longtime art director-turned-portrait consultant, began her career at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Worldwide in New York. Yet it was her lifelong love of painting that ultimately drew her closer to the artists she represented— and eventually, into their world.
“I’ve been drawing and painting my entire life,” she said. “My style leans toward expressionism and impressionism, but in my twenties I gave realism a shot and took classes at the Art Students League of New York. That’s where I met so many of the artists I still represent today.”
Those relationships flourished and Polson founded her portrait agency, helping match traditional realist painters with collectors and clients around the country. “The reason for a portrait is to celebrate a person or an achievement—it’s a happy business,” she said. “I love finding the right artist for the right client.”
It wasn’t until the pandemic lockdowns of 2020 that Polson returned to her own brushes. With her children home from school and college, she began painting again—starting with portraits of her kids. “It was a return to something very personal,” she said. “And then the landscapes, still lifes, and abstracts followed.”
Her work, often described as expressive and richly textured, reflects what she calls “loose, juicy brushstrokes, dynamic cropping, and bold color combinations.” Drawing inspiration from Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act, Polson seeks to capture “the extraordinary hidden in the seemingly mundane.”
Polson’s years of experience as a representative shape her perspective. “I have so much respect for the artists I represent,” she said. “They work under tight deadlines, with immense pressure to please a client. I don’t have that pressure—I paint freely, and I know what a gift that is.”
Even as she’s stepped into her own spotlight—exhibiting at venues including Chelsea galleries and public libraries—Polson continues to run her agency full time. “It’s hard to boast about yourself,” she laughed. “I could use an agent of my own.”
Balancing creativity with business, she finds joy in both. “Sometimes I’ll finish a day of client work and head straight to my easel. It’s a great way to end the day.”
Her advice to anyone pursuing creativity? “Go. Do it,” she says. “If you feel 19, even if you’re not—carry on like you are.”

ARTICLE BY HILARY RUSSO | PHOTOGRAPHY BY HOMETOWN CREAMERY
Not everyone can say they own the sweetest spot in town. But if you’re Albert Leggieri of Wayne, New Jersey, you absolutely can.
Leggieri and his wife Dana opened Hometown Creamery in September 2021 and never looked back. For Leggieri, this wasn’t just an investment opportunity, it was a passion project that had been living rent-free in his mind for close to two decades.
“I had been thinking about opening an ice cream shop for over 15 years. When my son Luca was born in 2020, I made a decision to go for it,” says the proud father of two. That decision turned into the start of something truly special in the Wayne community.
By the fall of 2021, Hometown Creamery opened its doors and started scooping joy by the cone. The following year, they expanded to a second location in North Haledon, proving that their sweet success wasn’t just beginner’s luck, it was the real (ice) cream of the crop.
Six days a week, the team at Hometown Creamery whips up small, fresh batches of their handmade ice cream. With over 30 flavors on the menu, including fan favorites like Coffee Oreo, Cannoli, and a Bailey’s or Kahlúa Fudge with a grown-up kick, there’s truly something for everyone. Leggieri's personal favorite?
Oatmeal Raisin Cookie. It’s a nostalgic nod to the cookie jar, only colder and creamier. Fresh baked cookies are available too.
For those with dietary restrictions, Hometown Creamery doesn’t leave anyone out in the cold. The shop offers a variety of sugar-free, gluten-free and vegan flavors that are just as decadent and creamy as their

dairy-rich counterparts. From classic staples to seasonal surprises, this place is designed for indecisive ice cream lovers who want to try it all.
But the secret ingredient at Hometown Creamery isn’t just the ice cream—it’s the people.
“Happiness is homemade,” Leggieri says, and that’s more than a tagline. It’s a guiding principle. Leggieri and Dana are both lifelong residents of Wayne, and they’ve built a business that reflects their love of community. The Creamery’s tightknit staff is made up of friends and family. These are people who greet you with a warm smile and a generous scoop. Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular, you’re treated like one of their own.
That homemade, heartfelt touch extends to the shop’s design as well. Leveraging his background in building and remodeling, Leggieri designed both locations himself. The counters are crafted from reclaimed wood, giving each space a rustic charm that feels less like a business and more like a warm welcome home. And if you're lucky, you might even spot the Leggieris’ fully restored, red 1959 Chevy Apache pickup truck parked outside, a beloved mascot that adds a cherry-ontop kind of character to the brand.
But Leggieri and Dana’s vision goes beyond the brick-andmortar shops. Hometown Creamery also hits the road with a custom-designed kiosk and a mobile ice cream truck available for events. Birthdays, weddings, block parties, you name it. They bring the scoops and the smiles, making every celebration a little sweeter.
And let’s face it, ice cream has always been more than dessert. It’s a feel-good food that hits the emotional sweet spot. One lick can bring you back to childhood, offer comfort after a long day, or turn a moment into a memory. At Hometown Creamery, those small joys are handcrafted daily, because emotional wellness can be found in the little things, like sprinkles, smiles, and sharing a cone with someone you love.
In just a few short years, Hometown Creamery has become more than just an ice cream shop. It’s a place where neighbors gather, where kids make memories, and where every cone is served with a side of nostalgia. It’s about family, flavor, and a whole lot of heart.
So next time you’re in Wayne or North Haledon, swing by Hometown Creamery. Whether you’re craving something cold, sweet, or simply a little bit of kindness, Leggieri and Dana and the entire staff have just the scoop for you.

There’s something magical about stepping off a plane and straight into paradise. The warm Bahamian breeze hits you, the sun is shining, and you realize—yep, this is real life. I was lucky enough to be in the Bahamas on a recent editorial travel trip with a group of fellow writers and editors, invited to experience the newly renovated British Colonial Nassau. With over 100 years of history and a $50 million facelift, the property is now a crown jewel of the Caribbean—and it lived up to every expectation.
From the moment I walked through the doors, I knew I was in for something special. The hotel’s blend of colonial charm and modern luxury made an immediate impression. It’s the kind of place where you feel like royalty—without needing to dress like you’re attending a gala (thankfully). The lobby is grand but welcoming, full of rich textures and tropical touches.
I grabbed a cocktail at Woodes Rogers Tavern, the hotel’s signature martini bar, and watched the mixologists craft drinks like it was art. Dinner that evening was a delicious blend of local and international flavors—a perfect start to what would become an unforgettable few days.
The next morning, I eased into the day with strong coffee and pastries at the Tamarind Market Place, followed by a little beach time on the property’s private stretch of sand. But soon it was time to explore.
Lunch took us to the lively and colorful Arawak Cay for the famous Fish Fry. Conch salad, fried snapper, and Bahama Mamas were the stars of the show, and yes—I tried the conch pistons. As I cautiously took a bite, I couldn’t help but think, my dad would be proud I’m trying something new. It wasn’t just about the food—it was about the experience. That afternoon, we headed to John Watling’s Distillery for a rum tasting. I’ve had plenty of rum in my day, but tasting five varieties while surrounded by Bahamian history was a whole new level. I even got to bottle my own. I had to remind myself—this is work.
You simply can’t go to Nassau without doing the Exuma Adventure—and it ended up being the highlight of the trip. We climbed aboard high-speed boats and jetted off across crystal-clear waters, stopping to snorkel, feed iguanas, and wade with stingrays. But the main event? The beach pigs.
They were somehow even cuter in real life. (Yes, I took a photo. Yes, I’m framing it.) Swimming with them was a surreal, bucket-list experience that I’ll never forget.
Lunch was served on a private island— fresh seafood, sunshine, and nothing on the agenda but soaking it all in. I kept thinking, can you bottle this feeling?
Our final night included a private beachfront dinner—grilled fish, soft music, and a star-filled sky. With waves crashing behind us and a cold drink in hand, it was the perfect close to a perfect trip. Even for the non-seafood eaters, there was something for everyone, and the atmosphere was simply unmatched.

“It was a reminder of the unexpected joys that come from embracing adventure and new experiences.”
- Carly Mac Manus
As I packed up to leave British Colonial Nassau, I kept thinking about how lucky I was to be part of this unforgettable experience. Between deshelling conch, sipping rum, island hopping, and swimming with pigs, it was a whirlwind of discovery. But that’s what travel does—it pushes you, excites you, and reminds you that life is meant to be lived out loud.
And I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m already planning my next escape to this tropical paradise.

Sometimes, the perfect escape isn’t far away—it’s just a scenic hour from NYC. Tucked into the rolling hills of Somerset County, New Jersey, Pendry Natirar feels like a world apart. It's where luxury meets nature, and the result is nothing short of magic. If you're craving a weekend that actually feels like a vacation (without the hassle of travel), this hidden gem delivers in every way.
Luxury in the Heart of Nature
Pendry Natirar isn’t your average weekend stay—it’s an experience. Set on 90 acres of pristine countryside, the property is a stunning blend of rustic charm and modern sophistication. From the moment I drove through the gates, I felt the shift: slower pace, fresh air, and peace I hadn’t realized I needed.
Every detail of the design is inspired by nature—from the earthy tones to the sprawling gardens and panoramic views.
What makes Pendry Natirar special isn’t just the setting—it’s how it invites you to engage with it. This isn’t a place where you stay inside and watch the view from afar. It’s a place to explore, connect, and rediscover the little joys of being outdoors.
One of my favorite parts of the trip? A visit to The Farm at Pendry Natirar. I joined a guided tour through the barnyard and got up close with their free-range chickens, fluffy sheep, and yes—adorable baby chicks. Beyond being cute, it was a real look into the farm’s sustainable practices and how everything on the property works in harmony with the land. It felt wholesome, grounding, and honestly, a little therapeutic.
Another charming surprise? The estate’s own hen house, home to over 150 free-range chickens. Their eggs go straight to Ninety Acres, the on-site restaurant, and end up on your breakfast plate the next morning. There’s something special about tasting a dish made with ingredients grown just steps away—it’s hyper-local dining at its best.
If you’re like me and crave a little action between spa time and wine tastings, Pendry has you covered. Thanks to their partnership with Compass Sports, there are plenty of ways to get moving outdoors.
I kicked off the weekend with a hike along the estate’s private trails, winding through wildflowers and woods with views that looked like something out of a movie. It was peaceful, energizing, and the perfect way to shake off the week.
Then, just for fun, I booked a private archery and axe throwing session—because why not? It was an hour of unexpected laughs and surprisingly satisfying aim practice. A little competitive, a little cathartic, and a whole lot of fun.
Pendry Natirar was everything I didn’t know I needed: a luxurious yet down-to-earth retreat with just the right amount of adventure, indulgence, and fresh air. I left feeling lighter, calmer, and reconnected—to nature, to the moment, and to myself.
So if you're looking for a getaway that doesn't require a plane ticket but still feels like a true escape, put Pendry Natirar at the top of your list. Trust me—you won’t want to leave. Plan Your Stay
