LEADING ASU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL INTO A NEW ERA
THE LADIES ISSUE
May has always been my favorite month. I'll let you decide if it has something to do with my birthday being in May. Outside of that though, May has always been a month of celebration. Alongside Mother's Day, May holds the birthdays of three of the most important women in my life—my mom, my grandmother, and the woman who stepped up in my adulthood and became my bonus mom.
I think Mother's Day tends to widen our perspective, bringing thought and appreciation to all women in our lives. Moms are important but there are so many other women who impact our lives, the teachers, the sisters and aunts, and our neighbors who bring beauty and light into our lives and our community.
I lost my mom as I was finishing up 11th grade. I'm not sure how one of the guidance counselors found out, but I found myself called into the office of a woman who wasn't my assigned counselor and was subject to a litany of questions about everything that was going on in my life. At the end of our conversation, I was released with a promise to be called to her office in the future. The following days held a few more meetings, each one had this counselor picking up the pieces of a broken girl who lost her mother. There wasn't anything she could do about my mom being gone, but she helped me piece together what she could and I left 11th grade with hope. That guidance counselor quite literally changed my life.
In this issue, we are highlighting the ladies who are making changes in the lives of our community members. From Molly Miller, who has impacted college athletes on and off the court to Korey Bahme who is making her own way in the legal world. This issue is celebrating women, their businesses, and maybe giving you an idea or two on how to bring the ladies in your life together. These women are bold, brave, and bringing the community together. It has been a joy to learn from them and hear their stories.
This month, take a moment to make the phone call, send the text, plan a night out, find a way—big or small—to celebrate the wonderful women in your life. Even the smallest action can make the biggest impact.
With love,
May 2025

MOLLY MILLER, ASU'S NEW WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HEAD COACH
ARTICLE BY MICHAELA HETHERINGTON
PHOTOGRAPHY BY SONJA STAFFORD
Our owner/publisher Michaela caught up with Molly Miller, ASU’s new women’s basketball head coach—an inspiring leader with a big heart and a bright future ahead.
AS A FELLOW MISSOURIAN, I’D LOVE TO HEAR WHAT SPARKED YOUR LOVE FOR BASKETBALL GROWING UP, AND HOW DID YOUR EXPERIENCES IN MISSOURI HELP SHAPE THE PATH THAT EVENTUALLY BROUGHT YOU TO ARIZONA?
Sports and basketball were always a big part of my family. My dad coached me growing up, so I fell in love with the game early on. From my high school days at Kickapoo to playing at Drury
and then coaching, basketball provided me with a way to compete, be part of something bigger than myself, and challenge myself to grow. It’s amazing how life works—every step, every move has built on the last, and I’m so grateful for it.
YOU HAD AN INCREDIBLE RUN AT GRAND CANYON, LEADING THE LOPES TO THEIR FIRST WAC TITLE AND NCAA TOURNAMENT APPEARANCE WITH A 30-GAME WINNING STREAK. WHAT DO YOU THINK CONTRIBUTED TO THAT SUCCESS?
It was such a special run, and I’m proud of what we built. The key was our culture—our staff and players had a strong belief in what we were doing. We focused on trust, commitment, and hard work, not just winning games. Coaching that group was a highlight, and they will always have a special place in my heart.
TRANSITIONING FROM GCU TO ARIZONA STATE IS A BIG MOVE. WHAT WAS THE PROCESS LIKE FOR YOU MAKING THAT SHIFT, AND WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT THIS NEW CHAPTER WITH THE SUN DEVILS?
The move felt like the right next step, both personally and professionally. The energy at ASU is infectious, and after speaking with Graham Rossini, the ASU Athletic Director, I realized our visions aligned. His leadership creates an environment where both coaches and athletes can thrive. I’m excited about the chance to elevate the program and continue growing as a coach and leader, inspiring young women to reach their full potential.
LET’S TALK ABOUT THAT VIRAL GATORADE DANCE VIDEO! IT GOT SO MUCH LOVE ONLINE—WHERE DID YOU LEARN THOSE MOVES?
I was not expecting that shower, so I was caught by surprise! It was all about celebrating a big moment with my team. I was caught up in the excitement, so I randomly pulled out the moonwalk, which my mom—shoutout to Cindi Carter— taught me. Then, there was a huge puddle on the floor, so why not do water angels!

WE’VE ALL GOT OUR TUNES, AND I’M SURE THE DRIVE TO THE GYM NEEDS A SOUNDTRACK! WHAT’S ON YOUR PLAYLIST RIGHT NOW?
My playlist has a mix of everything. I listen to hype tracks before games to get pumped up, but on my way to work, recruiting calls replace the music. I recently saw Luke Combs in concert, so I’m currently on a country kick!
YOU’VE GOT TWO KIDS AND A HUSBAND IN THE MIX, AND YOUR SCHEDULE MUST BE PACKED. HOW DO YOU BALANCE FAMILY LIFE WITH THE DEMANDS OF BEING A HIGH-PROFILE COACH?
Balancing family and work is definitely a challenge, but my family is my priority. Derek is incredibly supportive, helping to manage the chaos. We stay organized and make time for what matters most—whether it’s the kids coming to games or the team bonding with them at home. I love that my profession allows me to blend work and family, creating meaningful moments together.
SPEAKING OF FAMILY, FOR MY TWO BOYS, WHO ARE BOTH SERIOUSLY MOTIVATED TO PLAY COLLEGIATE HOCKEY AND
BASKETBALL, WHAT’S YOUR BEST TIP FOR KEEPING THEM INSPIRED, FOCUSED, AND ENJOYING THE RIDE?
The best advice I can give is to find joy in the process. It’s easy to get caught up in the performance, but if they can focus on loving the game and pushing themselves to improve, the results will follow.
OVER THE COURSE OF YOUR BASKETBALL CAREER, WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED FROM A COACH THAT HAS STUCK WITH YOU AND INFLUENCED YOUR OWN COACHING STYLE?
One piece of advice that’s always stuck with me is, have a servant heart and care more about the person next to you and their needs over your own. A coach can be demanding and tough, but when you truly care about your players and their well-being, they respond to you in ways that go beyond just what happens on the court.
WE’RE CURIOUS: WHO WOULD PLAY YOU IN A MOVIE ABOUT YOUR LIFE? AND WHAT WOULD THE MOVIE BE CALLED?
Well, my maiden name is Carter. So, I could have really been Coach Carter. That would have been a very easy character to get into!

DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-GAME SUPERSTITIONS OR SOMETHING YOU ALWAYS DO TO GET YOURSELF IN THE ZONE BEFORE A BIG GAME?
I wouldn’t say I have any major superstitions, but I do like to have a little routine. I like to get in the right headspace and set the tone for the game—staying calm and focused. I always read my Bible and then I will review our scout and make sure I am sharp on the game plan going into the game.
BETWEEN COACHING, FAMILY LIFE, AND EVERYTHING ELSE, IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR HUSBAND, DEREK, MUST BE A HUGE SUPPORT. WHAT’S SOMETHING ABOUT HIM THAT MOST PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW BUT THAT ALWAYS MAKES YOU APPRECIATE HIM EVEN MORE?
Derek is incredibly patient and supportive— he’s the rock of our family. But what people might not know is how much he genuinely cares about the people around him. He has this ability to connect with others in a way that makes them feel heard and valued. I really admire that about him.
CROSBY AND CY ARE AT SUCH FUN AGES RIGHT NOW—WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THEY’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT, AND DO THEY SHOW ANY EARLY SIGNS OF FOLLOWING IN YOUR ATHLETIC FOOTSTEPS?
They’re both full of energy and love sports— Crosby plays basketball, flag football, golf, and gymnastics, while Cy enjoys basketball, baseball, and flag football. He also loves wrestling with dad! They’re still finding their own paths, but it’s exciting to watch them develop their own interests and personalities!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST, IF YOU WEREN’T COACHING BASKETBALL, WHAT OTHER CAREER COULD YOU SEE YOURSELF IN?
My dream job has always been an international food blogger. I love to travel, and I love food—what a perfect combination!

ATANA HEAD SPA
At ATANA, they believe that a healthy scalp leads to healthier hair, making scalp care a critical routine for anyone looking to enhance their hair’s natural vitality and growth. While head spas can help those with issues like dandruff or those experiencing hair loss, ATANA has gone above and beyond to show that everybody can benefit from scalp treatments.
We had the opportunity to take a trip over to ATANA Head Spa to try out these treatments. In short, these treatments are every bit as luxurious as they claim. You leave the spa feeling relaxed, refreshed, and rejuvenated.
It all starts with entering the spa, which feels like taking a breath of fresh air. The wide open space, the beautiful wooden shelves for product, and
the massive cushioned benches for seating all invite you in. Once you are checked in and all your preferences are verified (everything is customized to you) you are seated in a comfortable salon chair to meet your scalp therapist.
Any concerns or worries you might have about your scalp are discussed immediately. However, if you’re like me and unsure if you even have anything going on, on your scalp, don’t worry. Your scalp therapist will perform an analysis that will show any problem areas.
After your analysis, there is some scalp scraping and some treatments that start while in the chair, all treatments are explained by your scalp therapist and ingredients are shared. ATANA uses clean, easily traced ingredients in their products. Afterwards, you are brought back to your private room to change into your robe, lay down on a luxurious massage table, and get ready for the hair masks, speciality rinses, and conditioning treatments.
These rooms are designed to be the height of relaxation. Cool tones, low lights, and ambient sounds play and make you feel like you are wrapped in your own little world. Your scalp therapist works through the different treatments, treatments that are specifically designed to treat your problem areas on your scalp.
When you’re all done, you go back out to the salon chair where your scalp therapist will finish off with a final scalp treatment and show you where your scalp is after all the treatments—a scalp that is on its way to healthier pastures.
As your therapist is finishing up the final pieces, you are provided with your farewell beverage. It’s the perfect touch on a luxurious treatment. Try the Strawberry Açai, it’s delicious.

Jazlyn Muzio, Owner of Arizona Pristine Roofing
ARTICLE BY ASHLEIGH UNDERWOOD PHOTOGRAPHY BY ASHLEY BLAKE PHOTOGRAPHY
Jazlyn, “Jazz,” Muzio owns Arizona Pristine Roofing Company, alongside her husband, Chris. While this company is still in the “young” stage (the company started in 2020), Arizona Pristine Roofing has already made a huge impact in the community. Jazz was voted a Top Entrepreneur on the Rise in 2023. Arizona Pristine Roofing was a finalist for the BBB Torch Awards for Ethics in 2023. Jazz wasn’t always the entrepreneur and roofer she is today. She started in the medical field, working in an optometrist’s office before moving over to ophthalmology. She started as a tech, got appropriate certifications, and eventually became the head surgical coordinator at a practice in Scottsdale. In fact, she even started school to become an ophthalmologist before 2020 and the pandemic
changed everything for her. After a series of changes in both her career and her husband’s former company, Chris and Jazz decided to get into business together, starting Arizona Pristine Roofing.
No stranger to hard work and achieving goals, Jazz immediately started working on getting licensed in roofing. This was clearly a huge pivot and one that Jazz admits was scary. Five years later, the pivot has paid off. Jazz is licensed and has built up a company with a stellar reputation.
Jazz is more than a business owner, she is a community leader. Her dedication to roofing is to be admired and it goes beyond her company. Jazz sits on the board of directors for the Arizona Roofing Contractors Association which is a trade association dedicated to helping to create, raise, and build up roofing as a trade while uniting those in the industry.
While the company started with Chris and Jazz, it has grown, and extended members of the family are also employed by the company. Jazz and Chris have four kids, all boys, and four grandchildren. “Family comes first,” Jazz says during our conversation. Which is something she leads by example to her employees. Jazz cares deeply about her employees enjoying life and wants them to be comfortable, not chained to their work. Now, their youngest son is talking about wanting to join the family business.
Leading by example, Jazz puts herself, and the company, out there to help others in the community— working with AZ Women in Roofing, Feed Our Starving Children, and the Children’s Cancer Foundation. This is in addition to the company’s yearly Christmas giveaway where they give away a new roof to a family in need. “We are here to serve our community,” Jazz says as we wrap up our conversation.
Meet the lawyer who is making law something you don’t want to throw up over. Her name is Korey Bahme. She is an Arizona native who has made Mesa her home. Originally from Florence— Korey has overcome obstacle after obstacle in order to become the lawyer she is today. At the sweet age of ten years old, Korey got the idea that she would become a lawyer.
“You’re not that smart,” would be the response to her dreams. That didn’t stop her. Once the idea took root, even though she isn’t sure of the origin, it was her goal and her focus. She achieved amazing grades in high school, graduating with a 4.25 GPA. Korey went to Northern Arizona University, only knowing that she had enough money put together to get through her first semester. During that first semester, Korey would discover she had been awarded a scholarship, the Lumberjack scholarship, which she was able to utilize for the remainder of her undergraduate program. Korey would graduate NAU in three years with two
degrees, one in criminology and another in sociology. To add to her accomplishments, Korey was one of the first recipients of the Lumberjack Scholarship to graduate.
While at NAU, Korey got involved with the Innocence Project. The Innocence Project is an organization that works to help those who have been wrongfully convicted. Korey started law school in California but would transfer to ASU to be closer to family and her home. Her work in The Innocence Project would continue on at ASU where she was given the opportunity to co-chair a case and was able to have a pre-trial motion considered by the judge—very impressive work for a law student.
After Korey graduated in 2019 from law school, she started working in the public defender’s office.
what she loves doing most. This is the type of law she loves to practice. However, she discovered that while she loves business law—she hates billable hours. It was during this part of the conversation that I discovered that Korey is a system breaker. She is confident in her abilities, her knowledge, her expertise and she uses that to create her own path.
Which is exactly what she did. After a few more job opportunities and setbacks, Korey broke out on her own, starting her own law firm in February 2024. She doesn’t do much marketing, allowing her character and her clients to speak for her. If you were wondering, there is only praise and good things to be said. Her perfect review rating online showcases that.
Korey used to struggle with speech, now she is giving a voice to those who need one.
“I did good work, but the system made it hard,” Korey says when she talks about her time there. She shares stories of helping people, which makes her light up like your favorite set of Christmas lights. It was this part, early in our conversation, where I figured out that Korey has a deep, deep love for helping people. At her core, Korey wants to help her community. Law and her expertise is the vehicle she uses to do exactly that.
After the public defender’s office, Korey found herself in business law. Business law, Korey says, is
During the end of our conversation, we talked about her childhood—growing up poor—and how it feels to create the success she is living in today. This is when Korey shared that as a little girl, she had a speech impediment. People struggled to understand her to the point where she would refuse to speak, especially in public. Someone at church, Nancy, would come along and force Korey to speak, to work on her speech. Korey credits Nancy as the catalyst for who she is today. Korey used to struggle with speech, but now she is giving those in her community a voice in the legal world.

Let’s take a moment to imagine a different way to do girls’ night. Instead of going out to a new restaurant or even the same one you’ve always gone to, you stay in. What if you invite the girls over to your house, set up charcuterie boards, and make custom hats? What if staying in could be the new going out?
Meet Savannah Hahn, the brilliant mind behind Jaxson + Ollie, our local mobile hat bar. Savannah lives in East Mesa with her husband, adorable sons and their dog, Jaxson. What started off as an idea, custom hats sound like fun, quickly became a business with deep ties to our local community. Jaxson + Ollie is
celebrating one year of helping the valley create custom hats they love to wear day in and day out.
What is a hat bar? Hat bars are (usually) store locations that allow you to pick patches, charms, and other accessories that you put on a hat. What makes Jaxson + Ollie stand out is that they are mobile and come directly to you! It’s not just patches either. Jaxson + Ollie also does embroidered hats that you can customize!
For Savannah, Jaxon + Ollie has allowed her to dig into her creative side. She has a willingness to try new things and the ability to make ideas reality. “Girls’ night, that’s what I love the most,” she says. Then shares how she loves seeing women as they peruse the assortment of patches and find one that resonates and the stories shared.
Jaxson + Ollie is who you want to bring in for parties and events with a unique flair. A flair that is fun and something new.

Wondering where Ollie comes from? Gillian, Savannah’s friend (who loves helping her out at events and shows) has her own cutie pie four-legged friend, named Ollie. That is how Jaxson + Ollie got their name.
Between custom patches— which are thoughtfully considered for each event, ensuring there is something for everybody to love,—and embroidery, Jaxson + Ollie can make your hat dreams come true. There’s more too! Ask about custom stickers or their shoe charms.
Ready to plan your next girls’ night? You can book Jaxson + Ollie to be there via email— savannah@jaxsonandollie.com . You can find Jaxson + Ollie on Instagram: @jaxsonandollie where you can reach out directly to book or with your customization ideas.
