The Wellness Way has more than 50 chiropractic clinics nationwide. Our practitioners are able to support each other and draw on the expertise of our CEO Dr. Patrick Flynn, who founded The Wellness Way in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 2001.

Dr. Ryan DeNome. D.C.. clinic owner and Chiropractor at The Wellness Way Mason, is a graduate of Life University and Cincinnati native. He has been involved with The Wellness Way for three years and is looking forward to serving his hometown.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

November provides a chance to slow down and acknowledge the countless reasons we have to be thankful. This issue highlights the strength of generosity, whether through supporting nonprofits, caring for students or creating spaces where people feel connected. Here in Mason and Deerfield Township, gratitude shows up in many ways, as neighbors, organizations and businesses come together to support one another.

Demonstrating this beautifully are the United Way of Warren County (UWWC) and the CommUNITY Holiday Help program. Through funding and innovative grants, the UWWC strengthens nonprofits so people can continue to receive vital services. The CommUNITY Holiday Help program brings together schools, businesses and volunteers to make sure students have essential items they want, need, can wear and read, and more importantly, the reassurance that they are seen and supported.

Gratitude is also central to the story of Revelance, Deerfield Township’s creative coworking and event hub. In just one year, Revelance has grown into a place where ideas, partnerships and celebrations flourish side by side. From entrepreneurs launching new ventures to families hosting milestone events, the stories unfolding there reflect how work and life can be enriched when community is at the center.

This holiday season, we’re also asking you to help us make a difference. Through The Kingdom Building Foundation, City Lifestyle’s nonprofit, we can help spread warmth and compassion by nominating deserving community members for a Christmas blessing. Over the past four years, this campaign has grown into a beautiful movement, impacting over 200 families across the country last year alone. Learn more about the nominating process on page 28.

On a personal note, I’d like to take this opportunity to share how thankful I am for our team who create and curate the stories of our community in such a beautiful way. Also, a big thank you to our advertising partners for their continued support, which allows us to produce each issue and deliver to homes and businesses throughout Mason and Deerfield every month.

As you read through this issue, I hope you feel proud of the ways we care for each other. Gratitude is most meaningful when it is put into action, and this season offers us all an invitation to do just that.

Women Impacting Mason-Deerfield Speaker Series

The Women Impacting Mason-Deerfield Speaker Series returns Nov. 6 at Great Wolf Lodge with a special nonprofit showcase. The Mason City School District is celebrating an extraordinary academic honor as 20 Mason High School seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. COLLABORATING for the GOOD OF THE community

When Jane Conn took the helm as executive director of the United Way of Warren County in May 2024, she brought a wealth of experience in nonprofit management and a genuine passion for community service. Jane is focused on bolstering the nonprofit organizations the United Way supports, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed.

“Nonprofits are the backbone of our community,” Jane says. “They’re the unsung heroes providing essential services to those who need them the most. My goal is to strengthen our partnerships and increase our collective impact. By working together, we can address the challenges facing our neighbors and create lasting change.”

Camp Joy, an experiential learning resource for people of all ages, is one of the many partner agencies of the United Way. Philanthropy Director Stephanie Vorhees reflects, “We are really grateful for our support from the United Way of Warren County. They support our underserved programming, our summer camps and our Outdoor School program. The kiddos who get to come have life-changing experiences, and the United Way’s support truly makes all the difference in the world."

Under her leadership, the United Way has begun to refocus its efforts on fostering deeper connections between nonprofits, funders and community members. One of her key initiatives is to refocus the United Way on its primary goal of supporting these organizations.

“Let the main thing be the main thing,” explains Jane.

The United Way of Warren County is now providing mini-impact grants for special projects, anywhere from $500 - $5,000. Grant applications are available online. Local nonprofit Women Walking West (W3) was a recent mini-impact grant recipient.

W3 Chief of Operations and Development Dr. Fatemeh Hajihosseini shares, "Leadership training at Camp Joy provided our 11 mentees with invaluable life experiences about themselves and their peers."

Historically, fundraising focused on the United Way’s annual campaign, the primary fundraising effort to support its grants and community initiatives. This year’s campaign is more important than ever as nonprofits navigate challenges posed by the economic climate and rising costs.

Jane notes that they are expanding their vision of fundraising beyond the annual campaign.

“We are always campaigning,” Jane shares. “For us to grow and expand, we will allow organizations to decide which month works best for them to campaign or donate.”

As the United Way embarks on this new chapter, they’re calling on community members to support their mission. Jane encourages residents to connect their workplaces to the United Way to lead employee contributions and encourage their employers to donate directly. Whether through donations, volunteering time or spreading the word, every contribution matters.

With the arrival of Jane Conn, the United Way of Warren County is poised for an exciting new chapter that promises to continue its legacy of support for local nonprofits and to expand its impact.

Over the years, several Mason organizations have provided holiday assistance for students and their families. In 2024, many of these groups joined forces to work together under a single mission of supporting people in Mason experiencing food insecurity. Mason City Schools CommUNITY Holiday Help program was designed to provide students from preschool to twelfth grade with essential items categorized as something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read.

“Mason City Schools CommUNITY Holiday Help program is a powerful example of how a supportive community can positively impact students and families,” Prevention and Wellness Coordinator for Mason City Schools, Laura Martin, tells us. “This initiative not only provides essential items but also fosters a sense of belonging and well-being, which are critical for a student's success in and out of the classroom.”

Many organizations and businesses collaborated, including Kiwanis, Shine Like Sable, Comet Cupboard, Rotary, Mason City Schools, Mason Schools Foundation, City of Mason, Girl Scouts, Heritage Presbyterian Church, MHS National Honor Society, Tall Stacks, Manor House, Meijer and The Book Bus Depot. They provided gifts, clothing, books and blankets to over 800 students. Additionally, more than 400 coats, hats, mittens and gloves were handed out.

“We are deeply grateful for the unwavering generosity and compassion of the community, whose support allows the district to truly make a difference for our students,” Laura shares.

“We are blessed by an amazing community that donated their resources to assist in making this program happen,” adds organizer Casey Moran of Comet Cupboard and the local Girl Scouts.

The Girl Scouts took the lead in ensuring that every participating student received a handcrafted blanket.

They partnered with organizations and churches to hold blanket-cutting and tying events, to make sure a plentiful supply of blankets was available.

“We were called to take action and make a difference, not to sit on the sidelines asking questions, thinking about whether or not to use our talents to make the world a better place,” Casey enthuses.

“For many families facing financial hardship, the support received from CommUNITY Holiday Help means they don't have to choose between providing a holiday for their children and covering other essential expenses,” Laura explains. “The gratitude from these families is immeasurable, as the community's generosity allows them to experience the joy of the season.”

Casey continues, “No one wants to be food insecure or homeless. We enjoy helping parents and guardians select the best gift for their children and providing them with wrapping paper to package it in a way that gives them dignity and hope.”

This year saw a 33% increase in the need for the program. They expect to serve approximately 1,200 students in 2025 and hope to continue building new partnerships to support all of the kids.

“As folks head into the Thanksgiving season, giving thanks makes life easier and more enjoyable,” Casey remarks. “In fact, gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, fully enjoy good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity and build strong relationships.  One of the many ways to feel gratitude is to bless others.”

Revelance’s creative hub blends office, lifestyle and community under one roof.

There are coworking spaces, and then there’s Revelance.

Walk through the glass doors of this Mason destination and you immediately know it’s something different. You’ll find offices, conference rooms and the amenities of a modern professional hub, but take a few more steps and the surprises unfold. “This place is a hidden gem,” explains Kristina Forester, director of operations. “You walk in expecting a standard office environment, but then you see everything we’ve built here. It’s designed to be inspiring and intentional—work and play, seamlessly connected.”

Revelance, founded by Patrick Malloy and Joe Clark, opened its doors a year ago with a bold idea: that work doesn’t have to feel like work. While many coworking spaces lean into sleek minimalism, Revelance embraces personality and possibility.

“Our spaces are built for both business and celebration,” shares Chad Blount, director of sales. “One day we’ll host a corporate strategy session, and the next it’s a graduation party or a milestone birthday. That blend is what makes Revelance unique.”

It’s a philosophy that comes through in every corner. Private meeting rooms are polished and professional, designed to help teams focus. The communal workspace upstairs is large and comfortable, offering flexibility for both quiet productivity and casual conversation. After a busy day, members can wander downstairs where the inviting Sonder Brewing taproom turns a typical networking event into something more memorable.

“You might come in for a morning of heads-down work, and by the afternoon, you’re sharing coffee with someone who becomes a client, a mentor or a new friend. That’s the magic of the space,” Kristina adds.

Revelance is all about options. Some companies rent meeting rooms weekly without committing to a full membership. Others dive all in, enjoying perks like simulator hours, community experiences and event discounts. Entrepreneurs use the open spaces as a launchpad, while established businesses host client luncheons, training sessions or staff retreats.

“The beauty is that it works for everyone,” Chad says. “We see startups, Fortune 500 teams and parents planning a graduation party. Revelance flexes with your needs.”

This adaptability is especially appealing in a world where hybrid work has blurred the lines between office and home. For many, Revelance becomes that “third place”—not the kitchen table, not the corporate office, but a creative in-between

The past year has exceeded expectations for Revelance. “Our first year has truly been better than we could have imagined,” Kristina explains. “We’ve built so many great partnerships and relationships within the community, and those connections have really helped us grow and reach more people. We are incredibly thankful for the support of our members, partners and the entire community. From the very beginning, the responses we’ve received have been overwhelming in the best way.”

That gratitude is echoed by members themselves. “This is a completely different vibe than other coworking locations. It feels like a private club with amenities stretching far beyond simply a place to work,” says member David Powell. “My clients love it when I host meetings here. From the thoughtful boardrooms to the golf simulator and bourbon lounge, it’s a great atmosphere!”

As Revelance celebrates its first anniversary, it continues to evolve. In the year ahead, members can look forward to expanded opportunities to connect through events and open community activities. A podcast studio is on the horizon, giving members and local partners a place to create and share their stories. Plans are also underway for an expanded outdoor space, designed to host even more gatherings. With the holiday season fast approaching, Revelance is ready to welcome groups for celebrations. Several spaces are available to rent for holiday parties, and they are currently offering 15% off any event two hours or longer. The holidays have a way of calling us back to what matters most—faith, family, compassion, and the quiet but powerful act of giving. As lights go up and calendars fill, there are still many who sit in silence, carrying burdens too heavy to bear alone. But what if this season, you could be the spark that changes everything for someone else?

The founders of City Lifestyle, through their private foundation, are once again launching its annual Christmas Giving Campaign—a heartfelt effort to seek out and support individuals and families who have quietly fallen through the cracks. The mission is simple: to bring light, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.

Since its beginning just four years ago, this initiative has grown from a humble idea into a life-changing movement. Last Christmas alone, more than 200 families across the country received unexpected support—financial relief, but also something even more powerful.

“We don’t just send checks,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”

Together with City Lifestyle President Matthew Perry, Steven has helped shape this into a tradition that goes far beyond charity. “This is about community,” Matthew adds. “We believe we’ve been blessed, so now we get to be a blessing.”

Every story begins with a nomination. Often, it’s a neighbor, coworker, friend, or teacher—someone who’s been quietly carrying too much for too long. One past recipient, after receiving unexpected support during a time of deep personal struggle, wrote:

“Beyond the very practical solution of receiving funds to fix my car, this thing you guys worked together to do is bigger than that. I carry the Christmas card you sent in my purse. When things get really hard, I pull it out and remember what it felt like to be seen. That card represents hope— that change for the better is possible. I’m not sure how many people get to carry hope around in their purse. But I do.”

Another wrote in after her husband was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer and unable to work:

“This support has blessed our family not only financially, but emotionally and spiritually as we trust God to meet our needs throughout this difficult time. Thank you to our anonymous friend and to your foundation. What a joy and gift to be part of God’s family!”

Each year brings countless stories like these—real lives touched by simple acts of kindness. Some use the funds to pay overdue bills, others to afford groceries, medication, or repairs. But no matter the circumstance, the impact is the same: hope is restored.

This season, you have the opportunity to be part of that. The campaign is now open to nominations—completely confidential and prayerfully considered. Whether it’s someone battling illness, facing unemployment, or just in need of a helping hand, you can bring them a moment of grace that will ripple far beyond Christmas morning.

“Knowing my mom was chosen filled my heart with indescribable joy,” said another past recipient. “Your generosity doesn’t just brighten her life; it inspires hope and faith in all of us. It enables her to stay in her home and get back on her feet.”

Fill your home with the aromas of fall with quick condiment and drink recipes.

Apple Chutney

ingredients:

• 3 tablespoons butter or ghee

• 2 cups Granny Smith apples, chopped

• 1/4 cup toasted pecans or walnuts, chopped

• 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar

• 3 tablespoons brown sugar

• 3 tablespoons dried cranberries

• 1 teaspoon orange juice

• 1 teaspoon cumin

• 1 teaspoon ginger

• 1 cinnamon stick

• Chili flakes, to taste (optional)

directions:

Step 1. Heat butter or ghee in a saucepan or small pot, then add a cinnamon stick and ginger, and cook until fragrant.

Step 2. Add all other ingredients and cook covered over low heat until the apples are tender.

Step 3. Remove the lid to cook until the sauce has mostly evaporated.

Step 4. Remove the cinnamon stick and mash with a spatula or keep a chunky texture.

Step 5. Serve with a cheese board or pork dishes.

Apple Cider Bourbon ingredients:

• Apple cider (hot or cold)

• 1 1/2 ounce bourbon or whiskey

• 1/2 ounce honey

• 1/2 ounce lemon juice

• Cinnamon stick

• Apple slice

directions:

Step 1. Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake well.

Step 2. Serve warm or over ice and garnish with a cinnamon stick and an apple slice.
