When I think about the number of women who have inspired, encouraged, and elevated me throughout my life both personally and professionally from a very young age, I find myself overwhelmingly grateful and honored that I know so many incredible women with such a strong sense of self. Being surrounded with amazingly strong, smart, powerhouse women who write their own stories, make their own way, and run so that others behind them can walk, is something that I pray everyone finds in their lives. They elevate and challenge those around them and they make people better just by being who they are and changing the atmosphere in the spaces surrounding them.
Women like this have taught me how to find compassion, to own my actions, to love others without judgment, and how to be kind but implement my backbone when needed. To keep a thick skin when It comes to what others think but to always follow my heart. To carry a warrior's spirit but continually display kindness and grace towards others.
As you read about some of the local women who are creating their own stories, (make sure to check City Scene and Business Monthly too) I encourage you to find inspiration and motivation to author some main character plot twists into your story and choose to surround yourself with women you want to be like.
Find your peace and speak unapologetically from your truth.
Always strive to elevate those around you, and to leave people better than you found them, be the shift in the room that you want to see, because everything you want is on the other side of fear.

For Loveland artist and owner of Big Picture Creative Co., Alisha Lee Jeffers, the process of making art is life-giving. And engaging her unique perspectives in the business world has taken her life to a whole new level.
Described as life coaching for rebel minds and unconventional thinkers, Big Picture Creative Co. empowers creatives at any level to unlock their full potential. Alisha became a Certified Professional Life Coach because she wanted to help others connect with their “why” in life. Her methods include illustrated vision maps, coaching conversations, and workshops that put clients in contact with arts & crafts in a therapeutic way.
An unconventional thinker herself, she’s developed a framework to visually navigate life’s challenges. She uses this creative tool along with artful play to help unlock personal wisdom, insight, and confidence in a visual and non-intimidating way. She finds that it’s empowering for people to know that everyone has their own process, particularly creatives, and that they’re all valid. It’s through these processes that she connects people back to their inner playfulness and creativity.
“My favorite part of what I do is the authentic connections I make. When I can inspire someone, show them that they are seen and valued, I feel their energy lift. They see that another way to succeed is possible. That gives me the biggest heart-smile.”

As the Development and Events Director at Be The Gift, a nonprofit that serves Northern Colorado single moms and their children through home repair assistance, Katie Johnson has seen transformations that are truly making a difference. Since 2008, their team of project managers and volunteers have worked together to provide safer, healthier, and more functioning homes so that single moms can focus on the task at hand—raising their children.
With the organization since its onset, Katie explains, “My favorite part is getting to know the women that we help, hear their stories, and then getting to see their home transformation. It’s like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders. You get to see the security that comes from that and it's life-changing."
She goes on to explain, "These ladies are such heroes and being able to help these moms and their kids is so rewarding."

Healing is deep yet intensely rewarding work and nobody knows this better than Dr. Sonny Miles, Loveland integrative medicine physician and founder of Healing with Intention Integrative Medicine. Always fascinated by health, the body, and healing, Dr. Miles’ work has run the gamut. With training in conventional medicine as well as experience with reiki, acupuncture, shamanic practice, and other healing modalities, meeting her patients with expertise and empathy and transforming their healthbody, mind, and spirit - has become her life’s work.
Dr. Sonny Miles at
with Intention Integrative Medicine
Dr. Miles has traveled a winding path of healing modalities from conventional to alternative and has learned that everybody’s path to healing is unique. It was through her internal medicine residency that she quickly realized that patching people up in a revolving door environment wasn’t her calling and was where her interest in holistic medicine began. She was especially impacted by her time in palliative care. It’s from this experience that she began to recognize that going through the medical system frequently isn’t a healing experience, rather a triggering one. Through these experiences, she created a practice that recognizes everyone’s unique perspectives, traumas, and bodies, and by exploring each of these, she is able to offer a unique path to healing. She explains, “I believe that the journey to health is personal, transformative, and often internal and I feel honored to accompany patients on their own unique journey to wholeness and healing.”
Healing“There are so many benefits of being outside, particularly when you’re fly fishing. It forces you to be exactly where your feet are.”
Created out of the pronounced gap in offerings for women in the fly fishing industry, Dylan Demery and Emily Anderson, co-founders of She's Fly® in Northern Colorado , knew that they could do better for women. And they have. In an industry dominated by men, they strive to provide ergonomically correct fishing gear that suits women’s bodies as well as create safe, fun, and non-intimidating environments to teach women how to fly fish.
“We want to show women that you can be here too,” explains Dylan.
After using fly fishing as a way to work through grief in her own life, Dylan knows the healing capabilities of fly fishing firsthand. Emily has also experienced the cathartic nature of the sport and explains, “There are so many benefits of being outside, particularly when you’re fly fishing. It forces you to be exactly where your feet are.”
Emily and Dylan believe that everyone deserves to feel comfortable in the outdoors and through She's Fly® they’re here to help you get there.

Amna was born and raised in Pakistan and moved to Colorado in 2001. She started The Skin Lounge in 2019 with the intention of providing skin care services that are not only relaxing and enjoyable but also deliver lasting results. Customized, transformative and imparted with love, The Skin Lounge is not simply a skin clinic. It’s a luxury mind-body experience and their greatest passion is empowering their clientele through selfcare and providing the tools to celebrate their natural beauty and ignite confidence.
Local insurance agent, Cristina Walston, is following in the entrepreneurial footsteps of a strong lineage of successful females in her family. With deep ties to the Loveland community for many years, her family has owned successful businesses in the area. Now as an agent with American Family Insurance for the past nine years, Cristina has pulled inspiration from watching the women in her life conquer the challenges of entrepreneurship and succeed. She explains, “A lot of the women in my life have been entrepreneurs or have had supportive roles in large corporations. Watching these women be successful has driven me to be successful as well.”
And successful she has been. Cristina has been an agent with American Family Insurance for nine years and has acquired a team of six that all bring their own unique background, training, and expertise to the table. Together they have amassed a number of awards and accolades in the local community including Agent of the Year in 2021 and 2022 and voted Best of NoCo in 2023.
And while she knows that selling insurance may sound dull, she finds it extremely fascinating and rewarding. She has found intense pride in providing financial protection for when the unexpected occurs. Her team provides auto, home, business, life, umbrella, and farm & ranch insurance—you name it, they’ve got it. “Whatever the need, I'm ready to provide the caring support and dependable service you deserve. Insurance does not have to be complicated, it just needs to be correct.”
She admits that working with small business owners is one of her favorite aspects of her career. She enjoys digging into what her clients do and what they want and then crafting the perfect policy to protect their
business. Hand-in-hand with her dedication is her passion for educating her clients. She believes that it’s extremely important for people to understand why they have insurance and what it does. After all, if you’re paying for something you may as well truly understand what it does and have full confidence that you’re not only getting what you pay for, but what you need.
In fact, true success to Cristina is knowing that her customers are not only educated but content and feel secure in what they’re being provided. She explains, “If my phone is ringing because my clients have no understanding of what’s going on, that means something is wrong.” She believes that it’s the combination of dedication and education that has resulted in her success as an agent, as well as her and her team’s honesty and transparency as advisors. She takes her role as an advisor very seriously and finds it extremely important to demonstrate that she’s not just here to sell a product, rather that she’s providing strategic protection.
Her decision to partner with American Family Insurance is strategic as well. She loves being a part of the family that is American Family Insurance and finds them to be incredibly supportive as well as philanthropic. In fact, they just partnered with Habitat for Humanity and will be building a home in every state that they currently are operating in, with a build planned in Northern Colorado this month. “I’m really proud of the company that I work for.”
When she’s not strategically securing the futures of her clients, she loves the outdoor activities that Northern Colorado provides including hiking and backpacking with her dogs.
“Whatever the need, I'm ready to provide the caring support and dependable service you deserve. Insurance does not have to be complicated, it just needs to be correct.”

THE
ARTICLE BY DESIREE GUSTAFSON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY WOMENGIVE UNITED WAY OF LARIMER COUNTY'S WOMENGIVEAs our focus this month is centered around women, we have featured several powerhouse females creating change in our community throughout numerous sections of this issue. As we sat down to learn more about so many local inspirations and their stories, we discovered a common thread and theme weaved into each of them, and those are community and support. So many success stories and achieved dreams include a tribe of people who believe in you, support you, hold you accountable and help you to advance. Because of that, we decided that it is just as imperative to share and bring awareness to organizations and humans that are focused on the mission of supporting, encouraging, and finding ways for women to grow and chase their dreams no matter what circumstances they come from or that they are currently in.
So many women pursuing their dreams do so to create a better life and future for themselves and their families, and to provide more opportunities and security for their children. The bravery and fearlessness that is required to chase your dreams is doubled when you are a single mother. You are the caretaker, the breadwinner, and the glue that holds it all together daily. For many single mothers, the cost of the childcare needed to pursue a higher education is something that can make their goal to create a better life seem daunting. The average cost of full-time quality childcare in Larimer County is $1,277 per month, per child, which is a number outside of most single parents’ reach.
The ripple effect from these small acts of kindness by the WomenGive members and donors reaches across generations.
WomenGive, a program of the United Way of Larimer County, was created in 2006 by a group of passionate and caring women with an aim to create any opportunity for women in the Larimer County community to come together to help and uplift the women around them. Today that group of women has transformed into a dynamic network of more than 500 members who focus their financial resources to help women in Larimer County achieve economic self-sufficiency. They provide childcare scholarships and financial assistance to single mothers pursuing postsecondary education. Helping families achieve self-sufficiency allows them to focus on their studies with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that their children are receiving the best care possible in a safe environment.
To date this program has awarded 893 childcare scholarships, benefiting 429 children, and resulting in 135 recipients graduating. And all of this is done through the power of giving. The ripple effect from these small acts
of kindness by the WomenGive members and donors reaches across generations, not only affecting that mother and child directly, but their future families and extended network as well. Those children get to watch their mothers achieve their dreams and work towards their goals all while being in environments that allow them safety and support. The generosity from the members and donors of WomenGive allow this organization to strengthen the lives of other women and their families in our communities every single day. The saying “it takes a village” seems cliché, but that is exactly what the members and community of The United Way of Larimer County’s WomenGive are; a village making sure their tribe of women can succeed and in turn, those women then invest and pour into their own families and the communities surrounding them.

Making homemade bread is coming back, and while the convenience of buying a pre-made loaf is readily available, there is nothing like the taste of a warm, homemade loaf right out of the oven. This easy-to-follow recipe is exploding with flavor and is simple to make.
This recipe is quick and easy to make with just a few simple steps. It tastes great on its own, but dipping it in olive oil infused with fresh herbs adds an extra level of flavor.
INGREDIENTS:
• 1 ¾ cups warm water
• 2 ½ teaspoons sugar
• 1 package active dry yeast
• 4 cups flour
• 2 teaspoons salt
• 4 tablespoons olive oil
Optional:
• Fresh rosemary
• Coarse sea salt
• Fresh pressed garlic
INSTRUCTIONS:
Use a stand mixer with a fitted dough hook, and stir together the water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and stir again. Set mixture aside for 5 minutes. Mixture should be foamy. Next, add the flour and salt and mix on low until a shaggy dough forms. Increase speed and mix for an additional 4-5 minutes. Brush a large bowl with olive oil. Transfer the dough to the bowl and cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp towel. Set aside for about 1 to 1 ½ hours until the dough has doubled in size.
Brush a 9x13-inch baking dish with 2 tablespoons of oil. Uncover the dough and rub hands with olive oil. Slide your hands under the dough and fold it onto itself. Continue to work your way around the edge of the bowl, folding the dough onto itself until there is a ball that you can lift from the bowl. Place the dough in the prepared pan and press the dough to the edges. Cover the pan with plastic wrap or a damp towel and set aside to rise for about 45 minutes until the dough has doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 425°F. Drizzle the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the dough. Rub your hands with olive oil and use your fingers to make indentions on the surface of the dough. Sprinkle it with salt and rosemary and any desired toppings. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown.
