Happy June fellas! We are super thrilled to celebrate the men this month and boy have we selected so many incredible gentlemen to feature. We also celebrate Father's Day and all the Dads out there. I believe the importance of a father or father figure is tremendous. Fathers make countless differences in their home and family. My Dad was my hero growing up and I still respect every word he says. He taught me so many wonderful lessons.
I am honored to recognize one of my favorite Dads in my publisher's letter to you this month...Scott, my loving partner and better half. He is all I envision a father to be. He is a remarkable dad to our blended family of 6 kids, a devoted and loving family man and neighbor, a provider and giver like no one I've ever met and the keeper of my heart. A true man of integrity.
Last month we described our leading ladies as Proverbs 31 women. While reading more from Proverbs lately, I also find Scott to be a wonderful example of the Proverbs 32 man.
As I reflect on fatherhood this month, here are just a few of the ways dads can build up their home, like a Proverbs 32 man does:
• He is wise and will hear and will increase learning; and as a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.
• He walks in the way of good, and keeps the paths of the righteous.
• His worthy wife is a crown to his life.
• Because he tilleth the land, he has stored up plenty of bread.
• Slow to anger, he ruleth his spirit as a victorious commander.
• In his old age his children's children are a crown to him; and the glory of his children are his glory.
• His words are deep waters; a wellstream of wisdom like a flowing brook.
• Because he hideth not his eyes from the poor, he does not lack. A father’s gifts of quality time, life-giving words, and positive actions have a long-lasting impact on his children.
Let your father or a father figure in your life know how much he matters to you. And if you are a dad, let us be the first to say - thank you. You are invaluable to the people who know and need you as well as the community around you.
Happy Father’s Day!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education." There are countless educators in Lebanon who lead our children into their future, and these are some who were recognized for their commitment. Jessica Roper is pictured with Chareda Sims (Principal of Southside Elementary) and co-sponsor representatives W.P. Bone and Bob McDonald.
Over the past four decades, Cumberland University’s Phoenix Ball has become Wilson County’s premier formal and social event of the year. Since its inception in 1984, the Phoenix Ball has raised millions of dollars for deserving students. More than 97% of students at CU receive some type of financial aid and each year, the Phoenix Ball provides transformational opportunities for a number of students in need, with this event being a major fundraiser. The 2024 ball will be hosted June 1.

LEADING WITH INTEGRITY, FAITH, AND SERVANT HEARTS
PHOTOGRAPHY BY JARED DEAN PHOTOGRAPHY
The maternal side of my family (Hobbs) has been in Lebanon/Wilson County since nearly the very beginning of their existence. I was born and raised here along with several generations before me. I’m extremely proud of my family’s heritage; we still have one of the Hobbs’ family businesses operating since 1909 and I started my own first business during the centennial celebration of that company in 2009. I don’t believe in coincidences, ”coincidences” are simply God’s way of speaking to us.
Stay away from interests that are not intended to serve the community as a whole. With the history of my family in the area along with my profession and what I do every day. I hear both the good and bad of how our community operates – thus, I implore our elected officials and their supporting casts to stand up for what’s right in our community, not just any one special interest group. I believe in a world where gratitude exists at the highest consciousness of faith, allowing for universal knowledge of the true power of love.

I love Wilson County and Lebanon is truly a cornerstone in my life. Growing up, my mother built custom homes in Wilson County, so I spent hours in the Fakes & Hooker showroom, running around hiding in the door displays while she would pick out furnishings with a customer. My first job was at Southern Tub and Lighting and I would serve as a summer interim youth minister at First Baptist Lebanon.
I eat at Cedar City every single day right now and love being able to run there for a lunch or meeting.
ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR FUTURE COMMUNITY
If we use the talents and abilities that God gives us to our fullest, it brings Glory to Him even in the small things. My advice would be to get involved in our community, there are so many good-hearted people here.
ANYTHING YOU WANT READERS TO KNOW ABOUT?
When I bought this business in 2019, we were recycling 40,000 tons a year of material, last year we went over 100,000 tons. This is because of a partnership we
have with our community. Whether the reader knows it or not, they are part of this whole thing. When you trim a tree and put the sticks at the curb, you are helping us make mulch. When you buy mulch at the Coop, you are helping the community. When you pitch a tire, recycle your cardboard, clean out a peanut butter jar before throwing it in the recycling bin, every single act is affecting someone down the road and I cannot thank you enough for trusting Rockwood Sustainable Solutions with the little things.
Growing up across the river in Gallatin, TN, a football scholarship to Cumberland University led me to Lebanon, TN in 2001, but its embrace kept me here. I am certainly proud of where I’m from and who raised me because it made me who I am, but Lebanon and Wilson County wrote my story of why I chose to call this place home. When I am out of state and asked where I am from, the answer is not Nashville, the answer is Lebanon, TN. This community has given me so much in the last 23 years, the least I can do is spend my life here giving back to make it better.
Those I am closest with would tell you I am a loud person who likes to talk, but I am always watching and always listening. To the future community leaders, don’t miss out on the opportunity to learn through your eyes and ears. The knowledge you gain through that practice is immeasurable and vital to natural leadership.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2
Every morning I wake up with one goal…to be better, and the people of Lebanon, TN help me do just that.

I was born and raised in Wilson county, and I absolutely love it! I am fortunate enough to travel and experience other parts of the world, but there ain’t nothing better than coming back home.
The motto I live by is, It pays to know what you’re doing, and it costs when you don’t.
If I could give any advice to the future leaders of the community it would be to continue to seek new innovations, technology, and modernization that updates the infrastructure while bringing the community together.
I want readers to know that my heart belongs to Wilson County, and I’m dedicated to seeing it thrive through innovation and unity. Lastly, my wonderful wife, two beautiful daughters, and a newborn son (that is growing like a weed) mean the world to me. I truly appreciate the support system not only from my family, but from the community as well. Thank you all!
My family and I relocated here from Charlotte just two years back. The warm reception from the Wilson County community has made us feel right at home, and we’re so encouraged by the potential future opportunities this area holds.
Lead with your ears . Encouraging open and attentive communication fosters collaboration and unleashes
collective potential in both professional and community settings.
Apart from organizing unforgettable events at Nashville Superspeedway, I cherish every moment with my family, love hitting the golf course and thrive on exploring new places through travel.

I was raised predominantly in Nashville, but also lived briefly as a child in Atlanta, Charleston, and Boston. As an adult, I have traveled the world, and lived and worked in several other states and countries, but Lebanon / Wilson County is now the permanent home for my wife, me, our grown children and now eight grandchildren. We love our church, our jobs, our many avocational interests, but most of all we love the wonderful people within this community that we call home!
When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. You should endeavor to live your life in such a manner, that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice!
The heart of leadership is communication; and the heart of communication is listening!
The Wilson County Help Center hosted its 9th Ducky Derby in their annual Kentucky Derby style. Located at the beautiful home of Kevin and Christine New this year, all proceeds went to benefit the Wilson County Help Center's Domestic Violence Intervention program. Here's how it works. Guests purchase as many ducks as they like, toss them into the pool and a blindfolded celebrity duck plucker selects three for cash prizes. This year's official was State Representative Clark Boyd. Entertainment was provided by Double Take Band, catering by Sammy B’s, silent and live auctions with lots of fun had. Don't miss Wilson County Help Center's largest event of the year in 2025.
Wilson County Help Center Raises Money for Domestic Violence Intervention in Lebanon
Lebanon cheered loud again, this time as Lebanon High School 2019 grad Zion Logue was drafted to the Atlanta Falcons for the 2024 NFL season. We were lucky to catch up with him right after he received the news for a Q&A.
BEING BORN AND RAISED ON EAST MARKET AND WEST ADAMS, HOW DID GROWING UP HERE AFFECT YOUR DRIVE TO SUCCEED?
I really appreciate the love and support from the city of Lebanon as well as the middle Tennessee area and I wouldn’t be here without you guys! Honestly growing up in Lebanon created my drive to go on and do great things. There were so many people who I saw have the opportunity and didn’t capitalize on it, so I definitely want to take advantage of all my opportunities! Both sides of my family played a very pivotal role in my life raising me to be the man the world sees today!
ONE SPECIFIC SCRIPTURE THAT I LIVE BY IS ISAIAH 54:17, “NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST YOU SHALL PROSPER, AND EVERY TONGUE WHICH RISES AGAINST YOU IN JUDGMENT YOU SHALL CONDEMN.” -ZION LONGUE
WHAT IS A MOTTO/QUOTE YOU LIVE BY?
One specific scripture that I live by is Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.”
Another motto that I live by is “I asked & He Delivered!”
CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE DRAFT WORKS?
The draft is a crazy three day event with over 250 picks through seven rounds and teams go find the best college prospects to add to their rosters for the next season!
DID YOU HAVE A DRAFT GOAL? HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT BEING DRAFTED TO THE FALCONS?
You know every kid hopes and dreams to be picked in the first two days of the draft but honestly I was just
happy to see the Falcons call me, I didn’t care what pick it was!
AS YOU GROW IN YOUR CAREER, DO YOU HAVE ANY GIVEBACK PROGRAMS OR ORGANIZATIONS YOU PLAN TO SUPPORT OR GIVE TIME TO?
Yes! This past May I did my first ever Le96ndary Foundation football camp, as well as a Christmas Giveback to a family who wasn’t fortunate. Those are two things that I definitely want to continue on throughout my career.
LASTLY, WHEN YOU'RE BACK IN LEBANON, WHERE'S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO STOP AND EAT?
My favorite restaurants are Speedy Burrito and Just Fish when I come home!

Sponsor a flag as a sign of your unity with the support for our Nation
With your help, Veterans from across Wilson County will come together and establish a Field of Flags that celebrates the very essence of this Nation, the sentiment of Unity.
The event will take place on the Wilson County Fairground in front of the Farm Bureau Expo Center from June 29- July 4th as part of the Independence Day Celebration.
Why a Field of Flags? There is no symbol of our Nation more unifying than our national colors whether in peace, crisis, or time of war. It is a symbolic rallying point for our resolve to be free and defend our way of life. Each flag is sponsored by the members of our community whether they be an individual, a business, or a civic organization. Some are dedicated in devotion to our country, to our military and first responders, or to a particular loved one who is serving or has served.
Why Veterans? More than any other group of citizens, Veterans understand the power of unity and the vital
importance of a Nation united by purpose. That’s why the Field of Flags event is a coordinated effort by Veteran groups across Wilson County including: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5015, the Vietnam Veterans Association 1004, Associates of the Vietnam Veterans, and the American Legion Post 15. Most importantly, 100% of the proceeds go to supporting local Veterans inside Wilson County – our family!
How Do You Help? Stand with us! Sponsor a flag to be placed in the field as a visible sign of your own unity of support for our Nation or someone who has served these United States. Personalize your flag with a military dog tag in recognition of their specific selfless service and take it home with you as a lasting memory when this year’s Field of Flags are retired on July 5, 2024. Want to do more? Simply donate and we will ensure every dollar goes to helping a Veteran. Order your Flag or donate at vfwpost5015.org.
ORTHOPAEDIC CARE HAS NEVER BEEN MORE CONVENIENT
“
“Building a team that is focused on a Patient First mindset has been extremely rewarding.”
Lebanon’s love of sports runs as deep as the Cumberland River is long, which is why it makes perfect sense that Vanderbilt Health saw a need for a substantial sports medicine specialty office right here in the heart of our community. Orthopedic doctors Shaan S. Patel, MD, Lance LeClere, MD, and Hunter Welburn Hood, MD have teamed up as the leading physicians at Vanderbilt Orthopaedics, 1405 W Baddour Pkwy Suite 102, Lebanon not only to cater to adult reconstruction, sports, and hand/upper extremity surgery needs in the community, but also as leading care for Lebanon High School and the Nashville Predators.
We caught up with these three doctors to introduce them to the community.
Dr. Patel is an assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Vanderbilt, specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. With his main clinical interests being treatment of any issues from the shoulder to hand, which include fractures, rotator cuff tears, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, ligament injuries, and arthritis. He also performs shoulder arthroscopy, elbow arthroscopy, wrist arthroscopy, and shoulder replacements.
“I grew up in rural Alabama, so I understand the healthcare accessibility issues in rural areas. I’m glad I can supply Wilson County with a full-time shoulder to hand specialist, and I am the only full-time hand surgeon at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon,” Patel says, “As a first-generation immigrant, I instill the values of work ethic, dependability, and diligence to my craft and my practice in Lebanon and Mount Juliet.”
Dr. LeClare specializes in Orthopaedic Sports Knee and Shoulder Surgery and is the team physician for LHS and the Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Nashville Predators hockey team. Although he didn't have ties to Wilson County, he says he was struck by how much the community reminded him of my hometown in Southern Indiana when he arrived for his position.
“Our goal has been to provide subspecialized care to patients in Wilson County via Fellowship trained specialists. As we have continued to grow and become part of the community, we strive to maintain a focus of delivering high level, specialized care in a personal way. We want to always be available and accessible for our patients. Building a team that is focused on a Patient First mindset has been extremely rewarding.”
“While serving in the Navy for almost 20 years at this point, 15 on Active duty and 3 in the reserves, it has always been my goal to keep my patients in the fight . Keeping Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen healthy and ready to defend our country was the central focus of my practice. Whether that meant fixing an ACL tear or stabilizing a shoulder, it was mission essential that I returned our service members back to full health as quickly as possible. I also had the opportunity to take that mindset from my care of the SEAL Teams and Special Forces to the students and varsity athletes at the Naval Academy. I've now taken this mindset to the civilian teams that I take care of. Working with Jacob Woodard, ATC and Coach Chuck Gentry at Lebanon high school has been an incredible experience. It is so rewarding to help these young men accomplish their goals, and it is a humbling privilege to treat them and help them through their injuries. This year the Nashville Predators adapted Relentless as the mindset for the team and organization as a whole. As a medical staff, we are relentless in the pursuit of comprehensive care that has helped the Preds stay on the ice in their pursuit of a Stanley Cup. We take those same principles, techniques, and treatment methods for injury prevention, treatment, recovery, medical innovation, and in-depth personal care for professional athletes and bring that approach to the Lebanon High School athletes, the Lebanon community, and all of our patients.”
Dr. Hood grew up in Brandon, MS, outside of Jackson, and has family in the Nashville area, though he was also new to Lebanon when he joined Vanderbilt just as they were finalizing the plan to transition here.
“Our new clinic location is ideal for our patients and staff as our practice is located in one central location where the clinic, hospital, and ambulatory surgery center are all within walking distance. This allows us to be more readily available for our current patients and anyone in the community needing expedited access to orthopaedic care,” he explained.
“At Vanderbilt, we have some of the nation's leading orthopaedic surgeons and we have the resources to provide personalized, evidence-based care for
every patient, not just our professional and amateur athletes,” he says, explaining that his practice is predominately focused on anterior hip replacement, hip resurfacing, technology-assisted partial and total knee replacement, and complex hip and knee reconstruction for patients with failed joint replacements.
Mark your calendars for a FREE Sideline Emergency Medicine Primer for parents, coaches, and athletes on Saturday, July 27 at 8-10am at Lebanon High School.
Participants will learn how to prevent and treat heat illness/heat stroke, basic CPR skills, basics of concussion symptom recognition and treatment, and more!

Whether you are a new golfer or have been playing for decades, we all want the same thing—to be a single-digit handicap (or better). In some professions, golfing with clients is a must, and slicing off the tee box can kill the deal.
ARTICLE BY DANIEL SCHOWENGERDT01.
If you’ve been playing with the same clubs for 5+ years, it’s time to take advantage of the new equipment. Newer clubs have lower and deeper center of gravity (CG), creating an easier launch off the face. Even off-center strikes can produce a straight shot with the right set of clubs. Any major golf store will fit you for free—just make sure you get the correct length club and size grip.
On drivers and hybrids, some of the newest equipment have premium shaft options off the rack. The shaft is the engine of the club, so getting custom shafts will add distance and forgiveness—guaranteed.
As for the putter, you use it more than any other club in your bag on every round of golf. It should be the most tailored club in your bag.

Read quality golf books for a higher golf IQ.
There are thousands of golf books, but don’t worry, you only need to read a handful of them to up your golf IQ. Here are some top reads:
Short game: Dave Pelz’s Short Game Bible by Dave Pelz
Mental game: Golf is Not a Game of Perfect by Bob Rotella Mechanics: Practical Golf by John Jacobs
Ball flight laws: The Practice Manual by Adam Young (only read the first 50 pages)
03.
Practice your short game every day.
You don’t even have to spend time away from your family while practicing if you don’t have a golf simulator. You can practice putting and chipping on the carpet while watching TV with your family.
Chipping and the bump and run: The only mechanical advice I will give is the most important lesson you can learn in the short game. When you miss your approach shot you must be able to chip the ball within 8 feet of the hole for a one putt. Try this shot from Dave Peltz’s short game book. It gets me up and down from 25 yards out to just off the green.
