All my life, I was always an active person and never struggled with my weight.
Then I turned 50. Menopause hit, and suddenly everything changed.
My metabolism changed. My hormones changed. Even my body shape changed. I was gaining weight and losing energy.
Meanwhile, my husband and I had started a new business, leaving little time for spending hours in the gym. Something else was going to have to change if I were to get back in shape.
I needed a workout routine I would stick with. The only problem was, going to the gym felt like a chore. It took more time than my busy schedule allowed.
Then in 2017, I discovered 20 Minutes to Fitness, where you can build strength and fitness with just ONE 20-minute session a week.
Does it work? Well, I’ve been training here ever since. In that time, I have improved my bone density, tone and strength. I literally can feel the difference!
Training at 20 Minutes to Fitness has also motivated me to eat healthier and become more active in other ways. At age 59, I have lost weight and feel better than I have in years!
So, I’m proof that, YES, 20 Minutes to Fitness works!
How can a once-a-week, 20-minute workout do all that, you ask?
It begins with training each week on high-end specialized equipment usually used for physical therapy. My personal fitness coach, stays with me the entire time, making it enjoyable while ensuring proper form and safely pushing me to my limits on each machine.
Within 20 minutes, the slow cadence method used at 20 Minutes to Fitness has exhausted every major muscle group, giving me the same results I would achieve after three one-hour sessions in a traditional gym.
After only a month of working out at 20 Minutes to Fitness, I started noticing a difference in my body. I don’t just feel stronger, my body looks stronger. My husband comments on that all the time now. I look forward to my weekly workout sessions.
In addition to being good for my health, 20 Minutes to Fitness has been an especially good place to train during the pandemic. Because workouts are by appointment only and take just 20 minutes, it is easy to maintain social distancing and minimize the time spent indoors.
Now more than ever, wellness depends on fueling the mind and body. I highly recommend 20 Minutes to Fitness as part of a healthy lifestyle. I recommend it because it just makes me feel better.
Plus, your first session is FREE. There are no contracts to sign or membership fees to pay. So, give it a try. Feeling good is worth it.

TURNING EVERY DAY INTO A DAY TO CELEBRATE
Some cravings demand more than an ordinary solution. Sometimes, only a signature swirl of buttercream on a fresh baked cupcake will do. At Sprinkles, indulgence isn’t just about satisfying a sweet tooth—it’s about transforming the everyday into something worth celebrating. From signature cupcakes to ice cream, playful Pupcakes, and even the iconic Cupcake ATM, this bakery has turned joy into an art form.
“I just want people to feel joy—celebrating the small wins in life and the big wins too,” says Sprinkles Sarasota Franchise owner Jennifer Cobbs. “We like to be a part of celebrations.” That sense of delight runs through every detail, whether you’re surprising a friend, rewarding yourself after a long week, or grabbing a midnight cupcake from the ATM.
Quality is at the heart of Sprinkles. “We use premium ingredients. Our cupcakes are baked fresh daily,” Cobbs explains—and our Cupcake ATM gets stocked throughout the day. This commitment ensures that whether it’s a Red Velvet, the ever-popular Sprinkles Cupcake, or a more adventurous choice, each bite feels like a crafted experience.
While the classics remain beloved, Cobbs points to a lesser-known gem: “The hidden gem, I would say, is probably the Vietnamese coffee. Guests don’t think to try that one, but then they fall in love with it when they do. It has a condensed milk core inside—it’s phenomenal.”
Sprinkles doesn’t stop at human indulgence. Pupcakes—a fresh-baked, yogurt-frosted dog treat—are among the most whimsical additions. “Dogs just go crazy for them,” Cobbs laughs. “It’s a soft, cake-like treat. It’s different from what you’d find anywhere else.”
Expansions into handcrafted ice cream also came naturally. Cobbs recalls, “The ice cream was something that was sold exclusively at the Disney Springs location, and it was just one of those things my family loved getting there, so we wanted to bring it here.” Customers quickly embraced treats like cupcake shakes and cupcake sundaes, blending the bakery’s signature cakes with ice cream for the ultimate mash-up.
of connection transform a cupcake into something more—a keepsake, a conversation starter, a memory shared.
No innovation captures the playful spirit of Sprinkles better than the Cupcake ATM. Cobbs describes it as “being able to get a cupcake, 24/7, anytime on demand.” Stocked throughout the day, the ATM has become a favorite for kids, late-night snackers, and even early commuters, grabbing a birthday treat before work. “Our guests love having the ability to get a freshly baked cupcake out of an ATM,” Cobb says. It’s convenience with a sprinkle of magic.
“We use premium ingredients. Our cupcakes are baked fresh daily.”
Part of what makes Sprinkles so special is the element of personalization. Through Sprinkles Studio online, guests can upload logos, photos, or even ultrasound images to be printed directly on cupcakes. “We’ve been doing a lot of school logos for back to school. Guests upload pictures of their kids, their dogs, even business logos. It’s complete customization.” These edible moments
Sprinkles continues to evolve with its growing fan base. New flavors are rolled out based on trends and customer feedback. “At Sprinkles, we are all about innovation, always coming up with something new,” Cobbs says.
What sets Sprinkles apart is more than frosting or flavor—it’s the ability to turn life’s moments, big and small, into occasions. Whether it’s a carefully curated gift box, a signature cupcake flavor, or the thrill of discovering a new flavor, Sprinkles Sarasota reminds us that happiness often arrives in small, frosted packages.
In a world that always needs more sweetness, Sprinkles Sarasota offers something truly timeless: joy in the palm of your hand. Visit sprinkles.com/ pages/location-sarasota to order today.

Travel can be a challenge to your senses and your stomach. Whether you’re hopping time zones or strolling medieval streets, your body needs to digest, rest, and recharge. And while indulging in local food culture is one of travel’s greatest pleasures, the way you fuel your body while traveling can make or break how you feel on the journey.
As a nurse practitioner focused on metabolic health and hormone optimization, I often tell my patients that healthy eating while traveling isn’t about restriction, it’s about balance. It's how you avoid that afternoon crash, recover from jet lag more quickly, and truly feel present for the adventures ahead.
Your circadian rhythm is deeply tied to your eating habits. When you land in a new time zone, one of the best ways to support your body clock is to eat balanced meals at local mealtimes. This may mean skipping the meal on the airplane so that when you land in Rome, you are hungry. It also means focusing on whole foods with fiber, protein, and healthy fats, nutrients that support blood sugar stability and cognitive clarity.
The classic Italian breakfast: a cornetto and cappuccino is delicious, yes, but it delivers just 12 grams of protein and a rapid spike (and crash) in blood sugar. If you’ve got a day of museums or bell-towers ahead, consider enjoying that pastry after you’ve fueled up with something more substantial. Many cafés in Italy now offer omelets with veggies or Greek yogurt bowls. It’s not "inauthentic", it’s honoring your body's needs.
When you're eating unfamiliar foods, skipping meals, or eating on the go, your digestion can get sluggish. Add in long flights and disrupted sleep, and you're almost guaranteed some bloating or irregularity.
To counteract this, stay hydrated. Aim for 2 liters a day, more if flying. Prioritize fiber-rich produce daily even if that means picking up an apple from a corner store or ordering a salad with your meal. You may also want to pack a probiotic or digestive enzymes if you are prone to GI distress.
In Italy, look for hearty soups like ribollita or zuppa di farro, fiber-rich, nutrient-dense, and easy to digest after a long travel day.
You don’t have to skip the pasta, just don’t forget that it's not the only thing on the menu. In most Italian trattorias, the steak with roasted vegetables or catch of the day can offer far more nutrient density and staying power than a refined carbohydrate-heavy dish. Local food doesn’t always mean heavy food.
There’s no award for perfect eating on vacation, even if you happen to be dieting. I recommend scheduling in some hedonic eating while on vacation, something you eat purely for the pleasure of it. Often, the best choice is the one that nourishes your body and your soul. So, don’t skip the gelato, but maybe opt for a single scoop or share with your travel partner. Just remember: the goal is to feel vibrant, not depleted or deprived. That way, you can soak up the scenery, savor the cuisine, and return home feeling enriched, not needing a reset.
“Prioritize fiber-rich produce daily.”
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO COMBINE A BOUTIQUE WITH A COFFEE AND WINE BAR?
My mom once owned a boutique, and we always dreamed of opening one together. I also used to say that when I retired, I just wanted to pour people a cup of coffee every day. Two years ago, I lost my mom, dad, and brother within six months, and that grief shifted everything. When the chance came to blend those two dreams—a boutique with coffee and wine—it felt like all the pieces fell into place. What started as a retirement idea has turned into something so life-giving, filled with connection, laughter, and community. Not to mention the timing was perfect.
WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND THE BOUTIQUE’S NAME?
The name “cYou” came from thinking about women I’ve known in every season of life. I’ve seen how often we don’t feel truly seen - in careers, as life changes, or as we grow older and wonder if we’re still relevant. I wanted a name that would remind women they matter, right now, just as they are. It’s about being seen and celebrated.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE STYLE AND VIBE OF THE CLOTHING YOU CARRY?
Our style reflects a modern coastal vibe - light, airy pieces that move with you and make every day feel a little more beautiful. Think soft linens, easy dresses, effortless tops you can throw on for coffee or dinner. Everything is elevated but never fussy, the kind of clothing that makes you feel relaxed and confident, ready for whatever the day brings.
I also want women over 50 to walk in and see our boutique filled with things that feel fresh, flattering and current - without being loud, dated or like something they wore decades ago. We choose pieces with beautiful fabrics, thoughtful cuts, and just enough trend to keep it fun. And the best part is that a mother and daughter can shop side by side here and both leave with something they love.
“I WANTED A NAME THAT WOULD REMIND WOMEN THEY MATTER, RIGHT NOW, JUST AS THEY ARE.” — CYNTHIA GARZA
HOW DOES SIPPING COFFEE OR WINE ENHANCE THE OVERALL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE?
Having a coffee or wine while you shop makes the whole experience feel more relaxed and fun. If you’re with friends, one can enjoy a glass while the other tries things on - it turns shopping into connection and not just checking stores off a list. Husbands love it just as much. They can have a beer and relax too. Even if you’re not a big shopper, it gives you a way to enjoy the moment and make it a day to remember.
WHAT’S YOUR ULTIMATE HOPE FOR SOMEONE AFTER THEY LEAVE CYOU BOUTIQUE, BEYOND A GREAT OUTFIT?
That you leave feeling a little better than when you walked in. You felt seen, had fun, enjoyed your drink and felt relaxed in the environment… and maybe met a few new friends.
cYOU LUXURY BOUTIQUE COFFEE +WINE BAR
Tucked inside our boutique and café is something rare: a space where you’re not just welcome, you’re seen. Where the clothes are effortless, the coffee is thoughtful, and the conversations feel like coming home. Whether you’re stepping in solo or bringing your favorite people, cYou was created to remind you of your beauty, your brilliance, and your place in the story.

Two must-try spots that locals can’t stop buzzing about.
Three years ago, I moved to Sarasota without realizing just how much Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch would steal my heart through their food and locally owned businesses. As someone who has always loved exploring local flavors, I quickly discovered this area is so much more than beaches and sunshine. It’s a true foodie destination. From fun Main Street dinners in Lakewood Ranch to tucked-away cafés in Sarasota, every corner seems to hold a new flavor and a new story.
That passion inspired me to create my Ultimate Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch Foodie Guide, featuring more than 50 of my favorite local spots. It’s my way of sharing the gems I’ve uncovered with fellow food lovers while also supporting the small businesses that fuel our communities!
For this Food & Drink issue, I’m thrilled to spotlight two of those favorites: Remy’s on Main and Rendez-Vous French Bakery and Restaurant both of which I’ve also highlighted in my TV features. Each one captures the heart of our vibrant dining scene in its own unique way.
From mouthwatering authentic French pastries to LWR Main Street dining

The quickly growing city of Lakewood Ranch has become one of my favorite areas to explore, and Remy’s on Main perfectly captures the energy of this community. Nestled right on Main Street, it’s where locals gather for brunch, dinner, cocktails, and everything in between. The vibe is welcoming yet polished. You can feel the heartbeat of Lakewood Ranch here, whether you’re sipping a mimosa at Sunday brunch or enjoying live music with friends in the evening.
Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the menu offers a modern take on American comfort food with a global twist. A standout is their Bulgogi Benedict—a Korean-inspired take on eggs Benedict that’s as bold as it is delicious. Their Bulgogi Nachos are another favorite of mine; yes, Korean nachos! It’s the kind of dish you’ll crave again the following week. From specialty burgers and rice bowls to seafood, ribs, and pasta, there’s something for everyone, all paired with creative craft cocktails.
But what makes Remy’s on Main truly special is the family behind it. Owners Larry and his family are often seen greeting guests and making everyone feel right at home. It’s that combination of incredible food, hospitality, and community spirit that makes Remy’s not just a restaurant, but a Lakewood Ranch experience worth savoring.

Tanya Kara (@tanyainsarasota) is a Sarasota-based foodie influencer, mom and wife and founder of Influence PRX, her social media company. She highlights local restaurants through her Sarasota Foodie Guide, TV appearances, and social media collaborations.
Step into Rendez-Vous in Sarasota, and suddenly you’re not just at a café, you’re transported straight to France. This French bakery and café has quickly become one of my go-to spots for cozy mornings, leisurely coffee dates, or a sweet pick-me-up in the middle of the day. The smell of fresh croissants greets you the moment you walk in, and the display case filled with pastries is pure temptation. Their almond croissant is a local legend (and one of my personal favorites), paired perfectly with a latte. Beyond pastries, Rendez-Vous offers savory sandwiches, fresh breads, and the kind of warm hospitality that makes you feel like part of the family. It’s charming, authentic, and one of those places where you slow down and savor the moment. This hidden gem also has a special place in my Sarasota Foodie Guide, because it’s exactly the kind of spot that makes Sarasota’s food scene so irresistible. Visit either one of their two locations in Sarasota!
The family behind Rendez-Vous has an inspiring story. Originally from France, they moved to Sarasota to bring their craft and culture here. Today, you’ll find them not only welcoming guests at their two Sarasota locations, but also sharing their treats at the Lakewood Ranch Farmers Market and Ranch Nite. This heartfelt passion for food and community is exactly why Rendez-Vous has a place in my Sarasota Foodie Guide. It’s a hidden gem that makes our local dining scene so irresistible.
Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch continue to surprise me with their flavors, their stories, and the people behind the plates. These two spots are just a taste of what our community has to offer. For those who want to keep exploring, my Ultimate Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch Foodie Guide is filled with even more local gems because here, food is more than just a meal, it’s a family’s dream and the heartbeat of our community.
