Dear Neighbors,
Thanksgiving has always been about the pause. Life moves quickly, and November has a way of slowing us down, just enough to notice the people and moments that mean the most. It’s a season that reminds us to look around, take a deep breath, and celebrate both the big milestones and the small, everyday joys that make life meaningful.

This issue is all about that spirit of connection and appreciation. On our cover, you’ll meet Sally Kelly of My Happy Place, whose boutique overflows with color, joy, and heart. Her mission to make every person feel valued shines, and that light was beautifully captured by local photographer Christa McCourt of Houston Studio. Inside, you’ll also discover Rosemary and Brie, a local charcuterie business built on family and the love of gathering, as well as hidden restaurant gems around Lake Houston that are perfect to explore when friends or family come to town.
In our home, Thanksgiving means gathering with our local family and welcoming loved ones from out of town. This year feels especially sweet as we celebrate new babies in our extended family. What a gift it is to see little ones at the table. And once the dishes are cleared, we begin our annual tradition of bringing out the Christmas tree. For us, it’s less about the tree itself and more about spending time with our children, unpacking old and new ornaments, and remembering the memories they carry.
This season also reminds me that appreciation for what we have naturally leads to giving back. City Lifestyle’s annual Christmas Giving Campaign, through The Kingdom Building Foundation, is a meaningful way to do just that. While the holidays sparkle with joy for many, they can feel heavy for those quietly carrying burdens. Together, as neighbors and friends, we can make a difference right here in our communities.
November has a way of grounding us. It pulls us back to the beauty of everyday joys, the sound of laughter in a busy kitchen, the warmth of familiar voices, and the comfort of traditions that remind us who we are and what we value. These are the moments that shape our stories, strengthen our connections, and carry us into the holiday season with hearts wide open.
From my family to yours, may this Thanksgiving be full of joy, laughter, and a season that feels abundant in every way.
With gratitude,

Stepping into My Happy Place Gifts feels less like entering a shop and more like joining a community. The inviting scent of crème brûlée, the nostalgic soundtrack of 70s favorites, and the warm welcome from staff create an atmosphere straight out of Stars Hollow. It’s more than a place to browse, it is a destination to pause, recharge, and connect.
While a storefront has operated at this location for more than a decade, My Happy Place Gifts launched in March 2022. Since then, it has grown into a hub where customers discover unique treasures while enjoying a sense of belonging. The carefully curated items reflect an inclusive spirit. From stylish home décor and accessories to thoughtful “grab-and-go” finds, every detail is carefully chosen to provide something for everyone. With price points to fit any budget and complimentary gift wrapping, celebrating life’s milestones has never been easier. My Happy Place is where community thrives, and every visit feels like a gift of its own. At the heart of the store is the simple but powerful belief that people need people. The store was never meant to be just about transactions. It was created to be a gathering space where neighbors come together, conversations spark naturally, and friendships are formed as easily as purchases.
Sally Kelly herself is the true treasure behind My Happy Place. Her kind heart fuels the atmosphere that customers cherish, and countless reviews highlight her generosity, warmth, and ability to make everyone feel valued, not just as neighbors but as true friends. She is known for treating people with kindness at all times, both inside the store and in her everyday life. Sally has created more than a business where she

sells touching meaningful items. She has built a community where her spirit shapes the welcoming environment and instills that same openness in all who work alongside her. She reminds every visitor that goodness is not confined to stories, but can be an everyday occurrence, as memorable as the gifts they take home. This atmosphere sets the shop apart, encouraging all who come in to decompress, share stories, and feel a part of something larger than themselves.
My Happy Place is a living example of how commerce and community can blend seamlessly, proving that people and profit can function symbiotically. The walls seem to hold countless stories, moments of laughter, gestures to lighten the load from the dark life can throw, heartfelt conversations, as well as friendships that remain long after closing time. Walking inside carries a touch of magic, enveloping visitors in warmth and a sense of familiarity. Every shopping trip transforms into a shared experience, and simply being present becomes part of a story the store continues to tell. A story where Sally Kelly helps everyone find their own sense of warmth and leaves them with the feeling that here, everyone truly belongs.

“I want everyone who walks through our doors to feel like they matter. That’s what makes this place special,” Sally Kelly shares.

For sisters Linda Fuentes and Damaris Hernandez, Rosemary & Brie began as a simple creative pastime. What started off as sister time to share with their loved ones soon grew into something greater, a family business built on faith, creativity, and connection. Founded in 2021, this Latina-owned business began with a vision to create personalized culinary centerpieces that spark conversation and share their original artistry with the community. That love of food, family, and togetherness is what sparked Rosemary & Brie, a boutique charcuterie company renowned for its luxury custom grazing tables, signature boards, and edible art that transform events into unforgettable experiences. Each creation is thoughtfully designed to be as elegant as it is flavorful, blending artisanal cheeses, premium cured meats, and fresh accompaniments into centerpieces that delight both the palate and hold the eye in mesmerizing patterns.

But at its heart, Rosemary & Brie is about more than food; the business was founded in gratitude. The sisters draw strength and inspiration from their faith and from their mother, Linda Hernandez, who is courageously living with dementia. She still plays a role in the business, lovingly washing fruit for the boards. “It’s a beautiful way to include her,” Damaris explains. “It reminds us that every piece of this journey is rooted in love and thankfulness.”
That message of gratitude is exactly what the sisters hope to share with the Lake Houston community this season. “The joy of the Lord is our strength,” Linda says. “Each board is created with love, creativity, and purpose. We don’t just want to provide food. We want to create moments of joy and connection that linger long after the last bite.”
From intimate gatherings to corporate celebrations, Rosemary & Brie has become more than a catering business; it’s a reminder that food, family, and faith can come together to create beauty and conversation that the community can partake in.
This November, as families gather around their own tables, Rosemary & Brie invite us all to remember that the true centerpiece of every occasion is gratitude.

Every board is crafted to be more than food. It’s an experience that brings people together. From the first glance to the final bite, the goal is to spark conversation and lasting memories.
“Faith and creativity guide everything we do at Rosemary & Brie. We believe those values are what make each table not only beautiful, but also meaningful for every occasion.” Damaris reflects.
“We come from a family centered around food,” Linda shares. “Our older brother, David Hernandez, is our Executive Chef, and our mom has always cooked and even catered in the past. Gathering around food is just who we are.”

The holidays have a way of calling us back to what matters most—faith, family, compassion, and the quiet but powerful act of giving. As lights go up and calendars fill, there are still many who sit in silence, carrying burdens too heavy to bear alone. But what if this season, you could be the spark that changes everything for someone else?
The founders of City Lifestyle, through their private foundation, are once again launching its annual Christmas Giving Campaign—a heartfelt effort to seek out and support individuals and families who have quietly fallen through the cracks. The mission is simple: to bring light, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.
Since its beginning just four years ago, this initiative has grown from a humble idea into a life-changing movement. Last Christmas alone, more than 200 families across the country received unexpected support—financial relief, but also something even more powerful.
“We don’t just send checks,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”
Together with City Lifestyle President Matthew Perry, Steven has helped shape this into a tradition that goes far beyond charity. “This is about community,” Matthew adds. “We believe we’ve been blessed, so now we get to be a blessing.”
Every story begins with a nomination. Often, it’s a neighbor, coworker, friend, or teacher—someone who’s been quietly carrying too much for too long. One past recipient, after receiving unexpected support during a time of deep personal struggle, wrote:

“We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”
“Beyond the very practical solution of receiving funds to fix my car, this thing you guys worked together to do is bigger than that. I carry the Christmas card you sent in my purse. When things get really hard, I pull it out and remember what it felt like to be seen. That card represents hope— that change for the better is possible. I’m not sure how many people get to carry hope around in their purse. But I do.”
Another wrote in after her husband was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer and unable to work:
“This support has blessed our family not only financially, but emotionally and spiritually as we trust God to meet our needs throughout this difficult time. Thank you to our anonymous friend and to your foundation. What a joy and gift to be part of God’s family!”
Each year brings countless stories like these—real lives touched by simple acts of kindness. Some use the funds to pay overdue bills, others to afford groceries, medication, or repairs. But no matter the circumstance, the impact is the same: hope is restored.
This season, you have the opportunity to be part of that. The campaign is now open to nominations—completely confidential and prayerfully considered. Whether it’s someone battling illness, facing unemployment, or just in need of a helping hand, you can bring them a moment of grace that will ripple far beyond Christmas morning.
“Knowing my mom was chosen filled my heart with indescribable joy,” said another past recipient. “Your generosity doesn’t just brighten her life; it inspires hope and faith in all of us. It enables her to stay in her home and get back on her feet.”
Nominations are open from November 1st to December 5th, 2025. To submit someone you know, simply scan the QR code or visit @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the nomination form in the bio.
This holiday season, let’s give more than gifts. Let’s give each other the gift of being seen. Because sometimes, the smallest gesture becomes someone’s greatest miracle.
