Letter from the Editor

Style is often misunderstood. It’s not about chasing trends or fitting into someone else’s idea of what looks good. True style is a combination of who you are and how you choose to show up. Some days, that means a perfectly tailored blazer. Other days, it’s your favorite worn-in tee, ball cap and old sneakers that have seen better days.

Fashion doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be fun, it can be personal, and it should feel good. So wear what makes you feel most like you. Play with pieces and mix the old with the new. For me, I love that styles that were once popular 20 years ago have cycled back, so finding a good pair of overalls or doc martins feels nostalgic.

In this issue, we’re shining a light on local style that emphasizes personality, comfortability and culture. You’ll find inspiration from people who use fashion as a tool for self-expression, functionality and creativity. Whether you love vintage finds, minimalist staples, bold colors, or simple neutrals, there’s space for your style.

There’s no one right way to “do” style. Style is a deeply personal expression that doesn’t have to fit into a specific mold or follow every trend to be valid. For those of you who don’t feel particularly fashionable or confident in your clothing choices, a capsule wardrobe offers a reassuring sense of structure. It creates a reliable foundation that is built on versatile, well-loved pieces that takes the guesswork out of getting dressed. Whether you lean toward simple basics or love to make a bold statement, we’re here for it. Try something new or don’t. And you’re at it, shopping local is a great way to support your community and small business owners while adding new pieces to your wardrobe.

The Style Approach

When Danielle Huppe moved from the fastpaced fashion world of New York to Kansas City a few years ago, she didn’t leave her style instincts behind. Instead, she brought with her a deep passion for personal expression, a heart for community, and over 20 years of industry experience. The result is The Style Approach, a Kansas City-based styling company built on the belief that fashion should be personal, empowering, and accessible to all.

“While fashion has always been a part of my journey, my first love has always been community and connection,” says Danielle. “I use fashion as a tool to build both and bridge community and fashion. To me, it’s never just about clothes—it’s about the stories we tell through what we wear and how that creates real, human connection.

“That love of self-expression sparked a career that’s spanned over 20 years. I studied the business of fashion in college, became certified in wardrobe styling, image consulting, and fashion event production, and worked across many corners of the industry, from retail and product development to New York Fashion Week, editorial shoots, and one-on-one client work. I created The Style

Approach with a clear purpose: to help clients feel powerful, seen, and completely themselves in what they wear. Whether it’s editing their closet, curating a look for a big moment, or just helping them fall back in love with getting dressed, my goal is to make style personal, expressive, and joyful again.”

Danielle has created a variety of services that meet people exactly where they are. Some of her most popular services are the Wardrobe Cleanse and Wardrobe Style Out services.

“There’s something so powerful about starting the day with a closet that feels clear, intentional, and aligned with who you are right now. It brings peace, confidence, and clarity. What I love about the edit is that we’re not starting from scratch. I help clients shop their own closet, minimizing waste and getting creative with the pieces they already own. Sometimes, clients have amazing items they’ve collected over time, but they don’t know how to pull them together or wear them in multiple ways. That’s where I come in!”

Her work also extends into the professional world, especially for Kansas City’s growing population of entrepreneurs and small business owners. Her Image Curator Package focuses on aligning appearance with purpose, whether someone is launching a business, stepping into a new leadership role, or simply refining their public presence. She helps them shape a visual identity that tells their story before they ever say a word.

“I love helping entrepreneurs here in Kansas City shape how they visually show up to the world. We go beyond clothes—it’s about curating a look that matches the narrative you’re stepping into. Kansas City has such an inspiring entrepreneurial

spirit, and I feel lucky to be part of this supportive community that celebrates bold new chapters.”

Every client begins with a Style Discovery Consultation where a conversation is had about lifestyle, goals, and how they currently feel about fashion.

“Some clients love clothes but are unsure about their style. Others don’t want to think about it at all, they just want smart, elevated options and just do not have the spare time. From there, I use tools like color analysis and body shape guidance to help them understand what truly flatters. My process blends the influence of global fashion runways with real-life practicality. Every session is personal, relaxed, and a little bit of fun, like a confidence date with your best stylist friend. I personally know the power and confidence that goes from feeling good in your clothes.”

From seasonal updates to personalized shopping experiences, her service menu is designed to be both flexible and approachable. With an emphasis on supporting Kansas City’s own fashion designers and boutiques, her personal shopping services prioritize local style with intention. For those looking to refine their wardrobe and elevate their everyday image, her most comprehensive offering, the Image Curator package, includes everything from closet editing to fullscale personal shopping and image consulting, tailored for both professional and personal impact.

As a mother of four, Danielle knows how easy it is to lose yourself in the busyness of life, but she also knows the impact of starting your day feeling confident and seen. Her hope is to remind her clients that their wardrobe can be a source of strength, clarity, and celebration.

In addition to her styling work, she remains deeply connected to her roots in community-building. She serves on the board of Fashion Group International Kansas City and is passionate about supporting local creatives and businesses. She also plans to relaunch Style for Purpose, a charitable initiative she began in New York that provides fashion empowerment events to women in shelters right here in Kansas City.

No matter the service, Danielle brings the same heart and intentionality to every session.

“Style should feel like a celebration, not a chore. Getting dressed should light you up and it should be something that reflects you. Your wardrobe begins and ends your day. It deserves to feel just as good as your morning coffee or your favorite health regimen. I always say know your body type, understand your color palette, but also trust your joy. Wear the pieces that make you feel something.

“Style has the power to start conversations, spark confidence, and remind you of who you are. And that’s really what I’m here to help with: to walk alongside them in that journey and reflect back their greatness, through their wardrobe.”

CLUB 27

ARTICLE BY ALLISON SWAN
PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES

Club 27 Restaurant, located within Sykes/Lady Overland Park Golf Club, has been perfecting the art of relaxed-yet-refined dining since its opening in 2019. Now, thanks to recent wins for Best Outdoor Dining and Best Happy Hour in the 2025 Kansas City Favorites Awards, what was once a local favorite is now officially on the map as a go-to restaurant in Kansas City.

More than just a clubhouse restaurant, Club 27 has become the hangout spot for locals looking for scenic views, rotating seasonal menus, and a welcoming, community-driven atmosphere.

“I think what makes us different is the vibrant atmosphere and the food and drinks we offer,” says Justin Hohl, director of food and beverage. “A country club for the public is how I view it. Whether you’re playing golf, on a date night, celebrating a special occasion or wanting a relaxing experience, Club 27 offers it all. The view of the golf course is spectacular.  We also have wonderful people that have helped create a welcoming atmosphere with a sense of community.”

The setting alone is worth the visit. With wall-length garage doors that open wide on nice days, the dining room flows effortlessly into a covered upper patio and a spacious lower patio, together seating over 200 guests. From morning sunrises to golden hour cocktails, the view of the rolling fairways and

wide-open skies never disappoints. There’s TVs both inside and out, fire pits, and umbrella-covered tables that make it easy to linger a little longer.

Club 27 was designed to bring a country club vibe to the public, and it does so without any of the formality. There’s a sense of ease here, a come-as-you-are spirit that pairs perfectly with a menu that balances comfort classics with creative, seasonal dishes.

At the center of it all is a food and beverage team that’s passionate about flavor and fun. The menu rotates with the seasons, allowing the chefs and bartenders to experiment and bring new ideas to the table. Right now, guests can expect a little bit of everything—from crowd-pleasers to unexpected favorites.

“WITH SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE, CLUB 27 HAS CREATED A RARE MIX OF SOPHISTICATION AND LAID-BACK CHARM.”

"We change our menus seasonally to allow our chefs and bartenders to explore new flavors and offer innovative dishes to our customers and patrons throughout the year. Our culinary leaders have an extensive culinary background in all cuisines and create fun and delicious food.”

Kicking things off, the buffalo chicken dip is a must-share starter that brings just the right amount of heat and indulgence.

For something rich and irresistible, don’t skip the lobster mac and cheese croquettes, topped with garlic truffle breadcrumbs and a colorful corn succotash. On the lighter side, the shrimp lettuce wraps pack a crispy crunch, served with miso lime slaw and a kung pao dipping sauce that brings a tangy kick.

If you’re in the mood for a hearty handheld, the crispy chicken club sandwich is a fan favorite, stacked high with cheddar, pecan wood smoked bacon, and a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey aioli. Meanwhile, the Maui wowie pizza offers a sweet-and-spicy twist on traditional toppings, featuring black forest ham, jalapeños, and pineapple over a cauliflower crust and finished with

mango habanero sauce. For a beautifully plated entrée, the blackened salmon offers a touch of elegance with orzo pilaf, lemon beurre blanc, and fresh arugula.

Of course, with a happy hour that spans most of the week, even Sundays, it’s no surprise Club 27 also excels behind the bar. Signature cocktails like the limoncello basil martini, dragon fruit mojito, and pineapple smoked margarita are just

as photo-worthy as they are delicious. Even the mocktail menu is thoughtfully crafted, like the Taylor Made, proving that alcohol-free can still feel celebratory.

With something for everyone, Club 27 has created a rare mix of sophistication and laid-back charm. It’s a place where golfers and foodies, families and date-nighters, and regulars and first-timers can all feel at home. With national recognition already rolling in, there’s never been a better time to see what all the buzz is about.

Club 27 is located at 12501 Quivira Road in Overland Park. For more information, visit golfop.com/club27.

Helping Clients Discover Confidence Through Color

Color Studio

Let’s face it, choosing what to wear can sometimes feel like a guessing game. We’ve all stood in front of the mirror wondering why that “perfect” top suddenly makes us look tired or washed out. Enter Ally Conner, founder of Radiant Color Studio in the Kansas City area, who is on a mission to take the guesswork out of getting dressed.

Ally isn’t just a color expert. She’s a licensed cosmetologist with over 15 years of experience in beauty and design, now certified in personal color analysis through True Colour International. Her approach is equal parts science and soul, combining full-spectrum lighting, calibrated color drapes, and a serious eye for detail.

“Radiant Color Studio was born out of a calling to serve others through clarity and confidence,” Ally explains. “As a woman of faith, I believe we are each created with intention and purpose, including the colors woven into our natural design.”

At her studio, the experience goes far beyond holding up a few color swatches. Each client receives a one-on-one consultation using a methodical process that analyzes how specific hues interact with their skin, eyes, and hair under controlled lighting. The goal is to identify a personalized palette of over 65 colors that make you look and feel your best.

“We’re not guessing or using filters. This is a methodical process,” she says. “We’re looking at how your unique skin tone, hair, and eyes respond to color in real time.”

It’s part style session, part self-discovery, and trust us, the results are transformative. Clients often leave saying, “I feel like myself again.”

And Ally isn’t exaggerating. This isn’t a trendy gimmick or quick virtual quiz. Radiant Color Studio offers a true, in-person experience designed to bring out your natural radiance in a way that's both subtle and stunning.

“Color analysis isn’t about trends. It’s about you,” Ally says. “And the right colors make a difference you can see immediately.”

That’s especially true when it comes to photos. Whether you’re prepping for a headshot, engagement shoot, family portrait, or just want to upgrade your selfie game, the right colors can lift your features, brighten your eyes, and make your skin glow without needing a filter.

“Wearing your best colors is like turning on a light from within,” Ally explains. “It’s not about changing who you are. It’s about aligning with what’s already there.”

It’s no surprise that Kansas City professionals, creatives, brides, and even entire wedding parties are turning to Ally to refine their look with intention. She has even partnered with stylists and photographers to create cohesive, radiant visuals that let each individual shine.

Beyond the beauty benefits, clients leave with something deeper, a clearer sense of self. No more standing in a fitting room feeling frustrated. No more wasting money on clothes that stay buried in the closet.

“People walk in feeling overwhelmed by options and walk out with a clear plan,” Ally says. “They know what works for them, what doesn’t, and how to build a wardrobe with purpose.”

You will find yourself moved by the stories Ally encounters every day. She has worked with clients facing major life transitions such as recovering from illness, navigating divorce, or stepping into new chapters after loss. Many arrive feeling uncertain or disconnected from themselves, and by the end of their session, they experience a clear shift. A quiet

moment of recognition that helps them move forward with renewed confidence. Ally’s color analysis often becomes more than a style consultation, it serves as a tool for clarity and empowerment during times when people need it most.

“One client came in after trying every online quiz and tool she could find,” Ally recalls. “She was skeptical. But during the session, she lit up. Her features came alive and she just said, ‘This is me.’ That moment never gets old.”

Every session at Radiant Color Studio is a reminder that style can be both empowering and deeply personal. Ally’s mission is simple: to help you see yourself with fresh eyes and walk forward with confidence.

“This isn’t just about finding your palette,” she says. “It’s about finding your truth in color.”

LIVING STYLE in

THE INTERSECTION OF FASHION AND HOME

INthis unexpected love affair, fashion and interiors are more than just a simple pairing—they are rooted in culture, creativity, and the human desire for self-expression.

As conscious consumers of the 21st century, participating in a retail landscape that is oversaturated and struggling to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the modern customer, our purchasing power should not only respond to a feeling of want but also prioritize items that reflect who we are and who we aspire to be. This is clearly visible through the representation of fashion and interiors.

Although we tend to consider cost-perwear primarily when it comes to clothing, this same principle applies to furniture and the function it brings to the home. Aesthetics and functionality both play a role in this pairing, painting a picture for

the rest of the world of who the wearer is and how they live in their space.

The woman who wears a blazer with sharp shoulders that makes her feel powerful in her everyday life—or the black dress that gives her a necessary boost of confidence—may naturally gravitate toward sleek, modern furniture that feels equally strong and elevates the space where the modern woman thrives.

In the same way, someone who prefers an effortless ensemble—like their favorite white T-shirt and comfortable denim jeans—may also look for home pieces that

are functional and make their guests feel at ease. Even a handmade rug, one that sparks conversation about where it was found and adds a focal point to a room, mirrors how we search our closets for a sweater tied to a cherished memory.

Just as we carefully choose outfits to express ourselves, it’s equally important to ensure that our living spaces are designed with the same intention. More than ever, modern buyers are making purchasing decisions based on personal morals and values, forming a new wave of consumers who seek products that are both high-quality and environmentally or socially conscious, whether for themselves or their homes.

The following imagery affirms that living a timeless lifestyle across all aspects of life is possible through the thoughtful styling of sustainable clothing and vintage furniture. As the modern retail landscape continues to evolve, it’s become increasingly vital to make conscious consumer choices—ones that allow us to express our truest selves through both our wardrobes and the places we call home.

Style doesn’t have to be complicated.

THE CAPSULE WARDROBE EVERY MAN SHOULD OWN

A capsule wardrobe is all about quality over quantity — a streamlined collection of timeless pieces that work together and never go out of style. Think of it as the backbone of your closet, where every item earns its place and serves a purpose.

Originally, the concept of a capsule wardrobe was geared toward men — not because men chase trends, but often because they skip the basics. Many overlook the power of having well-made, versatile staples that make dressing effortless.

So, what should be in a man’s capsule collection? Start with the essentials: a tailored wool or cashmere blazer, straight-leg denim in both a dark and casual wash, a structured wool overcoat, and a solid cotton or wool sweater for layering. Add a crisp button-down shirt — or two — and you’ve built the foundation.

Stick to timeless colors: navy, olive green, grey, khaki, chocolate brown, and black. These shades mix and match with ease and always look sharp. For patterns, heritage classics like plaid, check, herringbone, and houndstooth add depth without overwhelming the look.

When it comes to fabric, focus on the good stuff — cashmere, cotton, denim, and wool. These materials age well, hold their shape, and elevate even the simplest outfit.

Once you’ve nailed the core pieces, dressing becomes second nature. Whether you’re heading to the office, out on the weekend, or packing for a trip, you’ll have the confidence of knowing everything works together.

All of the wardrobe featured in this article was provided by Houndstooth Menswear, located in River Market and Leawood. Eyewear was generously provided by EyeStyle at Mission Farms. Key pieces include a navy blue wool coat and

straight-leg denim jeans, perfectly paired with a navy cotton button-down shirt for a clean, classic look. A cashmere suit jacket in a brown and white herringbone pattern adds texture and sophistication, while relaxed straight-leg denim can be dressed up with a green suede button-down or kept casual with a green cotton sweater. Another standout: a navy wool jacket layered over a crisp cotton shirt and denim. For a bit of heritage flair, a blue plaid cashmere blazer pairs effortlessly with a soft cotton sweater and dark denim.

Every item in this feature was chosen for its timeless appeal and versatility — pieces that can be mixed, matched, and worn again and again. Begin with the classics, and you’ll never look out of place, even when adding a seasonal trend or two.

Simple. Stylish. Smart.

PAWS & PURPOSE

THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF GREATER KANSAS CITY PARTNERS WITH EVENT EXPERTS CREATEDKC

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

On October 23, 2025, The Oliver in Kansas City’s historic West Bottoms will come alive with the sound of dueling pianos, clinking glasses, and Kansas City’s unmatched energy, for a cause that hits home for thousands of local pet lovers. The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City is hosting its largest fundraiser of the year: Paws & Purpose. And this time, they’re pulling out all the stops.

“Attendees can expect a fun night with live entertainment (dueling piano bar!), amazing food from around Kansas City, fabulous silent auction items, sharing our impactful work with everyone, and more,” said HSGKC President Sydney Mollentine. “It’s a celebration of the work we have done and a night to raise funds for the work we have to do ahead of us.”

And the work ahead is no small feat. The organization has set an ambitious fundraising goal: $400,000, a number that directly reflects the urgency of their mission.

“The significance of the $400,000 is covering the cost of much-needed repairs to the building,” Sydney explained. “Most recently, our shelter flooded and uncovered structural issues that have caused us to close our cat shelter until repairs have been made.” But that’s not all. “We want to make it accessible for pet parents to get the care their pets need, even if they can’t afford it.”

A study conducted at one of their largest vaccine clinics revealed that nearly 70% of pet parents with unaltered pets wanted to spay or neuter them, but couldn’t due to cost. The Humane Society sees this as an opportunity to step in and stop the overpopulation crisis at its root.

That’s where Paws & Purpose comes in. It’s not just a night of good times, but as a rallying cry for Kansas City to step up and support real change in animal welfare.

“We want to be a resource and an ally for the whole community.”

To bring that vision to life, HSGKC is collaborating with CREATEDkc, an event design company that specializes in experiences with impact. “CREATEDkc is working in tandem with HSGKC President, Sydney Mollentine, to create a oneof-a-kind event benefiting HSGKC,” said Christy and Macie Heller of CREATEDkc. Although the duo preferred to keep the focus on the Humane Society’s mission, their behind-thescenes contributions are a major reason why this year’s event promises to stand out.

“Each year, we host an annual event, which is our largest fundraiser of the year,” said Sydney. “This year, we wanted to bring the FUN! We recognize that most ‘galas’ or ‘fundraising events’ follow the same program, over and over again. We wanted to create a FUN evening for our supporters.”

From the energy-packed dueling piano bar to the Taste of KC experience featuring multiple local chefs and the jaw-dropping silent auction (with over 80 baskets last year), the event is designed to break the traditional gala mold. One especially unique feature? A live painting by local artist Ashley Corbello, which one lucky guest will take home at the end of the night.

The event is also an opportunity to reflect on how far the Humane Society has come. “When I started working here, the average length of time in our shelter was 257 days,” said Sydney. “As of today, our average length of stay is under 20 days.” The team has also grown dramatically, now including 6 veterinarians and 9 technicians who help over 14,000 pets every year.

But with success comes scale and strain. “We know our work is just getting started,” she said. “The need, now more than ever, is growing at an alarming rate, and to keep up with the demand, we need to scale up our operations.”

Recent stories bring that need into sharp focus. From housing over 100 dogs seized, from inhumane breeding operations, to responding to a devastating hoarding case in Jewell County. On the clinic side, their Dose of Love event vaccinated 554 pets in one day, which is a testament to both the need and the potential of their work.

So what’s the dream outcome of this year’s event?

“The dream outcome is raising awareness of who we are, the work we do, and gaining new supporters,” said Sydney. “We want to be a resource and an ally for the whole community.

“It’s a celebration of the work we have done and a night to raise funds for the work we have to do ahead of us.”

Selfishly, because I am proud of who we are, our mission, and the work we do, I want us to be a household name.”

For those who want to be part of that dream, the call to action is simple: Visit hsgkc.org to consider donating, sponsoring, or attending the event. “Every dollar counts,” Sydney said. “We would love to bring on new sponsors that believe in our mission and want to help us propel our initiatives forward, changing the landscape of animal welfare in Kansas City.”

Mark your calendar. Bring your appetite. And come ready to change lives, four paws at a time.
