Savoring Community Flavors

As autumn's golden palette transforms our beloved neighborhoods, we celebrate the culinary entrepreneurs and community champions who make Indian Hill and our surrounding areas a true feast for the senses.

October brings more than just crisp mornings and changing leaves—it unveils the stories behind the flavors that define our community. This month, we're spotlighting the passionate business owners whose dedication to excellence creates the memorable dining experiences that bring us together.

One of my most treasured fall traditions was visiting the iconic Rouster's Apple House in Milford. Though it closed its doors in 2014, the memory of that distinctive aroma—warm apples, a fire glowing in the hearth, and autumn spice—still instantly transports me to fall bliss. It's a reminder of how the right flavors can create lasting community memories, and why supporting today's local culinary artisans who craft these same magical experiences is so important to preserving our neighborhood's seasonal traditions.

Our community's rich equestrian heritage shines brilliantly through partnerships like our collaboration with the Camargo Hunt's Centennial Anniversary celebration. Join us October 4 at Clippinger Field, where local caterers and artisans will showcase seasonal specialties that honor both tradition and innovation—a perfect example of how our business partners strengthen community bonds through shared experiences.

For sports enthusiasts, discover how local hospitality partners are elevating the game day experience at venues like FC Cincinnati's exclusive The Speakeasy, where premium catering meets community spirit in an atmosphere designed for connection.

Whether you're savoring handcrafted soups and carefully curated wine selections at neighborhood gems like Piazza Discepoli, or exploring other locally-owned establishments, each bite tells the story of entrepreneurs who've chosen to invest in our community's future.

This October, we celebrate not just exceptional food and drink, but the community champions behind every memorable meal—the business owners who understand that true success is measured by the connections they create and the neighborhoods they help flourish.

Here's to savoring every story, every partnership and every bite that makes our community extraordinary. Cheers!

TASTES & TOASTS OF THE HUNT

PHOTOGRAPHY BY KOHTA RINCON PHOTOGRAPHY

Camargo Hunt Celebrates 100 Years

of Horses, Hounds & Heritage

When the hunting horn sounded at the beginning of this season, the Camargo Hunt embarked on its 100th year of mounted fox hunting. One of the oldest hunts in North America, it is steeped in tradition and enjoys camaraderie across generations. Hunt members of all ages gather to celebrate horses, hounds and heritage, inspired by the thrill of the chase, the beauty of the terrain and the time they share.

“Throughout the 2025-2026 Centennial season we are celebrating all things Camargo Hunt,” says Camargo Hunt Board Member Becky Trasser. “Our season runs from Labor Day through March, and we encourage all to attend and come join in the fun.”

The Camargo Hunt was founded in the Village in 1925 by Julius Fleischmann, Jr., of Winding Creek Farm, and recognized by the Masters of Foxhounds Association in 1928. As the Village grew and open land became more inaccessible, the Hunt moved to more space in Clermont County in 1973, then once again to northern Kentucky in 1989. After a merger with a Kentucky hunt in 1995, and acreage donations in subsequent years, the clubhouse is currently in Owen County, where members enjoy weekend hunts here and there, on land that is similar to that of Indian Hill: grassy hills, open fields and wooded trails.

Today’s fox hunts are as much about the social experience as they are about the sport. Members don’t have to have a horse to participate: the Camargo Hunt welcomes social members as well as riding members. The upcoming schedule brings many moments to celebrate: the Camargo Hunter Trials, The Blessing of the Hounds, hunts, rides and the annual Hunt Gala in December.

“Indian Hill was begun by the visionaries who founded Camargo Hunt and Camargo Golf course. Indian Hill would not be the same without Camargo Hunt,” says Natalie Nesbitt, MFH, who grew up riding in the Village. “Camargo Hunt has been a huge part of my life for over 35 years.”

“The Hunt has provided me a community and friendships from a very young age through my adult years,” Trasser agrees. “The Hunt friendships, horses and hounds—I love the thrill of the chase and being outdoors in the early dawn hours of the day. Time seems to just slow down for a brief moment.”

No hunt is complete without the traditional tastes and toasts that fuel the riders before, during and after the event. Before each hunt, participants enjoy a Stirrup Cup, a tipple served in silver cups, often shaped like animals. Throughout some hunts, riders and spectators are fed from the Tallyho Wagon, a trailer of treats that follows the action. Tucked in the hay, you’ll find champagne

on ice and light bites, refreshments to enjoy and share with riders as they make chase through the field. Following each hunt, members hold Bring to Shares, an equestrian version of a potluck, often breakfast foods.

“After most hunts our membership brings food and drink to share and all are amazing, from the mulled wine and ciders, to charcuterie, bagels and lox and tasty pastries. Everyone brings what they can and talks about the day of hunting,” Trasser explains.

On October 4, Camargo Hunt hosts its 84th annual Camargo Hunter Trials at Clippinger Field. Horses and riders compete on cross-country courses that mimic hunt field conditions, including jumps of stone, logs and post-and-rail fences. It’s a test of both horse and rider and the bond between them.

A VIP tent is available for prime views of the Hunter Trials action and includes refreshments from breakfast through lunch, with snacks and cocktails in between.

Tailgaters line the perimeter of the field to compete in the amateur culinary contest for awards and bragging rights. Spectators are invited to enjoy it all.

First-timers are encouraged to roam and take in the sights, sounds and tastes of this annual fall tradition.

“Come as you are and wear comfortable shoes for walking in a field,” Trasser advises first-timers. “Don't miss the Parade of Hounds and the Tailgates surrounding the large ring. Come and enjoy the day and make new friends!”

Whether as rider, social member or spectator, all are invited to join in the fun of the Camargo Hunt in this benchmark year of its centennial celebration. Is the hunting horn calling you? Learn about membership and upcoming events online. CamargoHunt.com

LEGACY COCKTAILS

FC Cincinnati’s The Speakeasy Creates a Buzz About Town
ARTICLE BY BILL FURBEE
PHOTOGRAPHY BY FC CINCINNATI

At FC Cincinnati games, an already unparalleled sports spectator experience is being taken up a notch while simultaneously offering a nod to the past. Away from the crowds but still close to all the action, TQL Stadium’s new The Speakeasy is a secluded bar and lounge, with outdoor seats allowing guests to easily enjoy the match.

The organization proudly says it’s a symbol of FC Cincinnati’s continued commitment to excellence. It’s not just for game day: The Speakeasy space can be rented out year-round. The space, boasting 2,000 square feet of upscale atmosphere, opened this summer with chef-curated menus and craft cocktails, including seating for up to 50 fans.

The Speakeasy is an acknowledgement of Cincinnati’s rich history with breweries.

“Cincinnati’s beer heritage is rooted in its German immigrant past, nearly destroyed by Prohibition, and now thriving again with a nationally recognized craft beer culture,” explains Chad Munitz, Chief Revenue Officer for FC Cincinnati. “Meanwhile, its cocktail culture has followed a similar cycle—strong early traditions, decline, and then a modern revival focused on creativity and craftsmanship.”

Munitz emphasizes the importance of Cincinnati’s brewery and craft cocktail history.

“Cincinnati's history reflects the city’s cultural identity, economic growth and spirit of innovation," he says.

“In the 19th century,” he adds, “Cincinnati was one of America’s leading beer producers, fueled largely by its German immigrant population who brought brewing traditions that shaped the city’s neighborhoods and social life. This brewing legacy laid the foundation for today’s thriving craft beer and cocktail scene, which not only celebrates heritage but also drives tourism, community pride and local business development. By blending tradition with modern creativity, Cincinnati’s beverage culture tells the story of resilience, reinvention and connection across generations.”

It’s not the first time that FC Cincinnati has recognized the Queen City’s cultural history.

“From incorporating the Queen City’s German brewing heritage and vibrant arts scene into match day celebrations, to highlighting local music, food and murals at TQL Stadium, the club embraces elements that reflect Cincinnati’s character,” says Munitz.

“FC Cincinnati also partners with local businesses, cultural institutions and community organizations to honor the city’s history and diversity, ensuring fans feel a deep connection not only to the team but also to the broader culture of Cincinnati,” he says. “Through these efforts, the club is more than a sports team—it is a modern expression of the city’s legacy.”

In addition to a unique specialty cocktail menu, the Speakeasy’s food menu was curated to appeal to a variety of palettes, providing a spirited collection of modern favorites and eclectic delights.

“FC Cincinnati continues to evolve its offerings to fans and families, corporate partners and community members, by innovating the stadium experience from premium spaces to matchday presentation,” Munitz shares. “There is high demand for fresh new ways to engage with the club and this space will help us meet that demand.”

Access to The Speakeasy is available on a match-by-match basis, providing a distinctive experience for attendees seeking upscale amenities within the stadium. To learn more, visit TQLStadium.com

Hosting the Perfect Dinner Party

Your next event, served alfresco

Catering experts Chef Kyle and Hannah Williams, owners of Savor & Swirl culinary company, create an outdoor dinner party with chef-driven perennial dishes served in beautiful seasonal settings. For this alfresco dinner party, Chef Kyle draws on his favorite recipes updated for a modern palate and paired with wine selections to complement the bountiful feast.

Insider Tips for Hosting:

• Build a menu around the season. Start with what produce is available locally based on the season for the most authentic meal experience. For instance, Chef Kyle says “In November, people crave turkey, sage stuffing and cranberry sauce,” but that meal served in the heat of Summer wouldn’t hit the same. In-season fruits and vegetables will always be of highest quality and best taste.

• Always greet guests with a beverage and appetizers. “Offer champagne for wine-lovers or a sparkling drink or signature cocktail. It’s all about serving guests to the highest caliber,” Kyle says.

• Draw inspiration from the season’s colors and temperatures. For Spring and Summer, think flowers, fresh herbs and linens. For Fall, think flannel blankets, wooden tables, fire pits, open grills, string lights and candles to create a really cool environment you haven’t been able to do all summer.” For Winter, head indoors to create a cozy environment for guests to connect.

• “You can’t go wrong with fresh flowers,” Hannah says, “but keep bouquets low to not interfere with conversation flowing. For fall, I like richer, jewel-toned florals to mix and match and keep whimsical. I vary glass vases with bur - nished brass for warm fall vibes.”

• An easy but thoughtful detail is to put a simple menu at each place setting, so guests know what to expect. “Add a pen, so guests can jot tasting notes, especially for wine pairings or multiple courses,” Hannah says. “Guests can share comments, then take the menu home as a sweet reminder of the event.”

• Follow the French principle of mise en place or everything in place before your event. “This is actually our company’s name,” Kyle says. “It’s that important to us. Make sure the wines are all open, cocktails are pre-made, place settings are out, candles are lit and music is playing. When guests arrive, it gives that wow-factor and shows you intentionally made them feel special.”

• To build confidence as a host, start small and practice. “Keep the menu and guest list small,” Kyle says. “Choose recipes you already have confidence in. If you make a great Beef Stroganoff, then go with that. People will love it!”

• As fun as it is to dine outside, always have an indoors back-up plan. “We’ve had to bring it indoors before,” Hannah says. “It’s still fun.” Insider Tips for Hosting: “Think flannel blankets, wooden tables, fire pits, open grills, string lights and candles to create a really cool environment you haven’t been able to do all summer.”

Wine

in Mind? Celebrations Come Easy at Piazza Discepoli

“A great day is sharing a glass of wine, smiles and laughter with those you love,” says Jeff Seeley, owner of Piazza Discepoli.

For more than three decades, Piazza Discepoli has been a leader in providing locals with both sophisticated and accessible selections of wine and complementary accompaniments.

“Ultimately, Piazza Discepoli is about making your wine and food experience joyful, fun and exciting, regardless of your budget,” Seeley says. “We like to say that if you want a great $20 bottle of wine, we have it, and if you want a First Growth French Bordeaux, we have it as well.”

That didn’t happen by accident; the experienced staff at Piazza Discepoli has learned a thing or two since it opened in 1989.

“A remarkable amount of work goes into curating our exceptional selection of small-production estate wineries,” Seeley explains, “to create a unique experience in terms of knowledge, selection, customer service and wine and gourmet food education. Every wine is carefully selected and expertly chosen, ranging from entry-level price points to highly allocated wines across a variety of price ranges.”

Piazza Discepoli was founded by Cincinnati natives Marty Piazza and Guy Discepoli; Seeley purchased the business in 2021, dedicated to maintaining its celebrated selection while adding new, exciting products to its shelves.

“Great wine doesn’t have to be expensive and—more importantly—wine is an extension of family, laughter and love,” Seeley points out. “It’s an artistic expression by the wine maker, of the land, fruit and wine-making process.” PiazzaDiscepoli.com

“A great day is sharing a glass of wine, smiles and laughter with those you love.” -Jeff Seeley, Owner, Piazza Discepoli

You’ll find a curated selection at Piazza Discepoli. “Each of our wines is curated based on the region, the winemaker, winery and the value delivered,” Seeley shares. “We don’t necessarily look for big brands, but for wines that deliver an incredible experience. Our team is outstanding at pairing food and wine together to help you create a one-of-akind experience.”

Boards

The Piazza Discepoli team can craft a small board for two just as easily as a presentation for 200, using imported and domestic cheeses, dried fruits and the finest meats. “Our charcuterie boards are not only filled with fine meats, cheeses and accoutrements, but love and artistry from our team. Our boards excite all the senses,” says Seeley.

Gifts Events

The Piazza Discepoli team can create custom gift boxes or baskets for your loved ones near and far to celebrate any occasion. “We can include wine, olive oils, pasta, local legend Germano’s sauces, shelf-stable cheeses and lots of delicious snacks to create an amazing gift basket,” Seeley says. “We deliver locally and can ship gifts anywhere throughout the United States.”

Piazza Discepoli is a party waiting to happen. Stocked with foods and favors, it’s a convenient stop to prepare for gatherings. It’s also a cozy venue. Don’t miss their Friday Night Flights and Bites, held on the first Friday of every month to spotlight different wine-making regions. “Our Chef creates some incredible light bites to match the wine flights,” Seeley says.

The Wellness Corner

A FOODIE’S APPETIZER YOU’LL CRAVE

Let’s be honest—sometimes vegetables need a glow-up. That’s why I love turning simple asparagus into crispy golden fries with a creamy garlic aioli for dipping. It feels like a restaurant appetizer, but it’s one you can whip up at home with just a handful of ingredients.

The Parmesan-breadcrumb coating bakes into a crunchy crust that makes each bite irresistible. Paired with a smooth, garlicky aioli, these spears are the kind of side dish or starter that steals the spotlight. Serve them as a fun appetizer, or pair them with steak or seafood for a meal that feels special without being complicated.

Crispy Asparagus Fries

• 1 pound asparagus, cleaned and ends trimmed

• 3 large egg whites

• 1 Tablespoon mayonnaise (I like avocado oil base)

• 1 cup panko breadcrumbs

• ½ cup traditional breadcrumbs

• ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

• Cooking spray

1. Preheat the oven to 375ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the egg whites with mayonnaise (the mayo helps the coating stick).

3. In a separate dish, combine panko, traditional breadcrumbs  & Parmesan. Add a pinch of cayenne for a touch of heat.

4. Dip each asparagus spear in the egg mixture, then dredge in breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to coat. Transfer to a baking sheet.

5. Repeat with remaining asparagus, spacing spears about 1 inch apart. Lightly spray with cooking spray.

6. Bake for 15–20 minutes in oven, until golden & crispy. Or air fry at 360°F for 10-12 minutes. Serve immediately with aioli.

Creamy Garlic Aioli

• ¾ cup mayonnaise (I like avocado oil base)

• 2 Tablespoons lemon juice

• 3 cloves garlic, grated

• ½ teaspoon black pepper

• ¾ teaspoon salt

Mix all ingredients in a small bowl until smooth & creamy. Chill until ready to serve.
