The importance of a father is tremendous. Fathers make countless differences in their home and family. A father’s gifts of quality time, life-giving words, and positive actions have a long-lasting impact on his children.
As I reflect on fatherhood this month, here are just a few of the ways dads can build up their home:
• A father’s strength can be powerful
• A dad’s words can be fueling and inspirational
• Hugs from a dad can be deeply comforting
• A dad’s smiles can instill joy and confidence
• Time with a dad can be fun and productive

Let your father or a father figure in your life know how much he matters to you. And if you are a dad, let us be the first to say — thank you. You are invaluable to the people who know and need you as well as the community around you.

the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something or the effect itself.
Influence, not influencer. Long before TikTok and Instagram reels, the men here were effecting change, in person, right here in Northern Douglas County.
I grew up in poverty, raised on welfare in a single-parent home in Cleveland, Ohio. Drugs and violence surrounded our home, but it was a better situation than many in my neighborhood. I started working at age 13, and my paycheck often helped meet household needs. My mother’s tough love helped me grow up a fighter—not a brawler, but a fighter for good, fighting to make it and do right.
Without financial assistance, I studied at HBCU Central State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. I began working as a corrections officer in 1998 while attending the police academy. After that, I became the first African American police officer with Butler Township PD.
In July 2015, I joined the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. I’ve worked as a patrol officer and an elder abuse detective. I was promoted to Sergeant in 2023 and am a father of a 13-year-old daughter.
My journey is a testament to resilience and determination. I refused to be defined by my circumstances, and instead, I chose to fight for a better life. Now, I’m reaping the rewards and consider myself fortunate to work at DCSO, serving as a role model for others.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
My job is to oversee the jail’s operation, ensuring the inmates are cared for, and my deputies and detention specialists get home safely to their families at the end of the day.
WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH?
A good comedy. Anything with Adam Sandler and Kevin Hart.
I grew up in Austin, Texas, and graduated from the same high school as Drew Brees and Nick Foles. As it turns out, they are both younger than me and dramatically better at throwing a football.
I graduated from Rice University in Houston, Texas, with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. I received my Doctor of Medicine degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California at Berkeley. I completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at Denver Health. Recently, I received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Colorado. Without a doubt, I love learning new things.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I’m proud to be part of AdventHealth, whose mission is to extend Christ’s healing ministry to our community. Our team of healers provides the highest quality and most innovative healthcare in Littleton and throughout the region.
Further afield, AdventHealth serves communities in Nepal, Peru, Rwanda, and Ukraine through a partnership with Global Health Initiatives. The need for healing does not recognize imagined borders.
I’ve seen places in rural Africa where women and children walk for hours to carry water from an open, festering hole in the ground. Infectious diseases are rampant and will kill many of them. I’ve seen the desperate family of a sick man wait by the side of the road for hours, praying for a benevolent soul to deliver him to a hospital The opportunity to heal surrounds us wherever we go.
WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE HEARD?
“Be curious, not judgmental.” – Ted Lasso
“I became a doctor because I want to heal. People arrive at the hospital broken; minds, bodies, and spirits shatter with a sudden change in health. The privilege of witnessing those moments is sacred.”
“Entrepreneurship can be lonely and hard. We aim to create a community that supports one another.”
I moved to the U.S. in 1995 from Morocco to pursue my computer science degree at the University of Houston. I came to Denver in 2002 for an MBA from Colorado Technical University and embarked on a technology consulting career. In 2005, fate led me to meet my wife, Anna, at a local Starbucks. Together, we’ve shared 17 wonderful years and are blessed with our spirited daughter, Cami, who brings joy to our lives every day.
WHAT LED YOU TO YOUR PROFESSION?
After my graduate studies, I was recruited by Autodesk, one of the leading software companies in the world, whose flagship product, AutoCAD, is used to design almost every construction project in the world. After a successful career as an executive for leading global software companies, I launched my first Tech start-up, XD Innovation, with three people and built it into a 100+ person global technology provider with operations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, UK, France, and Japan. I also launched a digital marketing company, Martek. As an entrepreneur, I currently run several companies in tech, marketing, and real estate. My latest passion project is the Business Foundry, a local community business center where we help incubate and accelerate small businesses.
YOU’VE ENJOYED GREAT CAREER SUCCESS SO FAR. WHAT IS YOUR ‘WHY’ FOR OPENING BUSINESS FOUNDRY?
I want to be more involved with my local community and give back to small business owners and entrepreneurs looking to grow their businesses. More than a coworking or events center, Business Foundry is a business accelerator that helps people connect, learn, grow, and succeed in business. Speaking from experience, entrepreneurship can be lonely and hard. We aim to create a community that supports one another.
WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE HEARD?
Be yourself and believe in yourself.

Every August, the Morgan Adams Foundation Concours d'Elegance offers automobile enthusiasts, collectors, and the general public the opportunity to view some of the most unique, oldest, and most expensive automobiles.
Here is a glimpse at a few remarkable cars featured over the years, from the finest vehicles of yesteryear to one of the most exceptionally rare cars you'll ever see.
Andre Dubonnet’s Saoutchik-bodied Hispano-Suiza H6B must have looked like a vision of the future as it negotiated the roads and highways of prewar France. Eight decades later, it’s no less remarkable.
The Xenia’s shape was penned with input from aerodynamicist Jean Andreau. Dubonnet’s innovative ideas factored heavily into its construction as well: Instead of opening on conventional hinges, its doors lifted out and then slid rearward, paralleling the body and allowing easier entry. The front roof panel could be removed and stowed in the trunk, allowing occupants to enjoy open-air motoring in good weather. Even the aircraft-inspired wraparound windshield would have been seen as innovative for its day.
Essentially, it is a buggy with a two to three-horsepower single-cylinder engine mounted on the right side of the wooden frame. The Success Highwheeler came on the scene in 1906 and disappeared in 1909, not coincidentally the same year Henry Ford launched his Model T. Built in St. Louis, the Success Highwheelers appealed to skeptical farmers who had to negotiate rutted tracks and were learning that, unlike a horse, a gasoline-powered motor vehicle didn't need to be fed. The Success emulated the buggy driver's position, placing the horizontal steering wheel in the center of the front seat.
This Alfa Romeo was produced in 1939, clothed in a Superleggera Berlinetta body by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan. Records indicate that only 16 Touring Berlinettas were produced.
Famed Italian actress Claretta Patecci, most known for being Benito Mussolini’s mistress, was gifted this car by Il Duece himself in 1939.
On the 27th of April 1945, in this car, Claretta Patecci and her brother joined a German Wehrmacht caravan heading to Switzerland, trying to escape the allied forces. A group of Italian Partisans caught them along with Mussolini.
Undoubtedly one of the most exciting and stylish offerings of the period, the Al Leamy-designed Auburn Speedster incorporated a radically tapered rear end, which gave the Auburn a similar appearance to a road-going speedboat, hence the 'Boat tail' nickname. The elegant design was typically paired with artful features such as a contrasting paint scheme and chrome accents, while the highcowl and rear-hinged doors gave the Speedster a sporty flair that captured the public's imagination.
This Bugatti sold for $36 million in 2010 and is estimated to be worth nearly $64 million today. Bugatti only built four of these coupes between 1936 and 1938, when Ettore Bugatti’s son Jean modernized the company's vehicle lineup.
The model was named after Jean Bugatti's friend, French pilot Jean Mermoz, one of the pioneers in aviation and the first to cross the South Atlantic by air.

The Heart of the River Meets the Heart of the Person
ARTICLE BY LISA LORD PHOTOGRAPHY BY ADAIR PURNERThe river that wound itself through Peter Stitcher’s life is full of twists and turns and unexpected blessings. He didn’t set out to become a store owner, community builder, or a man supporting over 500 people in Africa.
“What started as a passion for the river has become a community, family, and a center for relationships.”
It started years before when he felt the call to be a missionary. And then again when he got a counseling degree. But in the end, the call of the river was so strong he decided to become a biologist to build trophy trout water based on a specific river's insects and etymology. He loved this work.
Then, the river of Pete’s life took a turn. Peter faced medical bills for his newborn daughter that his pay as a biologist and inadequate insurance couldn’t cover, and he needed a way to make ends meet.
The river provided. A friend asked for his expertise on which flies to use on a certain stretch of water. Having just studied that stretch of river, Peter built him a custom fly box based on what was currently hatching. Armed with the custom flies from Peter, his friend out-fished all his buddies and even the local guides.
As a side business to earn money for his daughter’s medical bills, Peter started curating and selling custom "biologist-crafted selections" of flies. His clients consistently out-fished everyone around them. Soon, he was making more in a weekend selling flies than in a month as a biologist, and Ascent Fly Fishing was born.
In 2014, he opened his first fly-tying factory in Nairobi, Kenya, where many of the big outfitters have factories. The British brought fly-tying to Kenya 70-80 years ago when the tea factories were off-season to make money year-round. Now, he employs over 55 fly tyers across two factories who have more than 500 dependents.
What started as a passion for the river has become a community, family, and a center for relationships. Ascent embodies the DNA of Peter and his
relationship-first philosophy and belief that "what you need, the river becomes."
“For us, as we have grown, there is no taking the full blessing all for ourselves without sharing it equally with our community in Kenya,” Peter says. “With a country with over 75 percent unemployment, this is a blessing that is shaping a generation.”
For nine years, Peter operated Ascent out of his home to keep costs down. Last year, he opened his first retail store and the result has, again, brought unexpected blessings. Sometimes, that means simply meeting people where they are and hearing what they really need, not talking about fishing at all. That includes de-stressing, relationship help, community, quiet, or even allowing a long-time customer who just lost his fishing and camping golden retriever to take Cedar, Ascent’s shop dog, for a fourday fishing trip.
It isn’t about seeing how much Peter can sell to each customer who walks in the door. It is about spending 30 minutes with a child who has a heart for fishing and his $6 allowance, telling him where to go and helping him pick out flies. It’s about telling a young man to put the flies back that he doesn’t need, dropping a pin on a Google map to show him where he can fish with the flies he already has.
It is about looking into the heart of the river and the heart of the person standing in front of him and seeing how they fit together. The blessing is just a bonus that the river has provided.
