LIST YOUR HOME WITH JOANNA JANAS THIS SPRING

I had the pleasure of working with Joanna Janas Real Estate during my recent home-selling process, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. After our first conversation, I knew she was the right agent to work with since she demonstrated a deep understanding of the real estate market in the city and the neighborhood. Joanna guided me through every step of the process, from staging and putting my house on the market to closing with patience and professionalism. Joanna was always available to answer my questions and offer support when needed, negotiate the offer, and provide valuable recommendations for painters, movers, and the expert handyman to complete several repair jobs after the inspection. I received the offer and signed the contract in 10 days, and couldn’t be happier with the experience. If you’re looking for a reliable, detail-oriented, knowledgeable real estate agent with a positive attitude, look no further than Joanna. She made the whole process stress-free and smooth.” - Irina J., Seller in Middleton

Celebrating the Women in our Community

Dear Middleton City Lifestyle Readers,

This issue is a celebration of women - women who are leading, innovating, and making a lasting impact in our community. We celebrate the women who inspire us and whose example lives on in the work we do. We’re honored to highlight their stories, businesses, and dedication to empowering others.

We begin with Glimpse Lash Salon, where beauty and relaxation go hand in hand. Owned by Karla Rivera, this serene salon offers expert lash extensions and beauty services designed to enhance natural features effortlessly. Their mission is to help clients look and feel their best, leaving them with a boost of confidence that lasts beyond their appointment. In this article, we celebrate the journey that led to Karla’s ownership of the salon. What began as a job during beauty school turned into a career as a business owner, allowing Karla to combine her love of her clients with her dedication to being a mother.

Inspired by the love and light his grandmother shared with others, Dr. Kevin Ferreira, MD, knew he wanted to dedicate his life to caring for others as well. He found his calling in WHOW Aesthetics, which specializes in advanced aesthetic and wellness treatments that prioritize self-care, rejuvenation, and confidence. With its beginnings in wound care, WHOW Aesthetics believes that beauty begins on the inside. Their expert team provides personalized treatment plans tailored to individual needs, ensuring every client receives the highest quality care. WHOW Aesthetics helps clients embrace their best selves and carries the heart of Dr. Ferreira’s grandmother.

Next, we shine a spotlight on women-owned businesses that are thriving in Middleton and Waunakee. From early childhood education and construction to health and photography, these women are paving the way for future generations with resilience and vision.

Finally, you’ll meet more incredible women making a difference in our community— advocates, entrepreneurs, and changemakers whose work touches lives in profound ways. Their stories remind us of the power of purpose and passion.

This issue is a tribute to the strength, grace, and influence of women in Middleton, Waunakee and beyond. We hope their stories inspire and uplift you.

To all of the mothers in our communities, we wish you a wonderful Mother’s Day and hope each of you knows how special you are in raising our future generations.

With love + gratitude,

May 2025

Charlotte Deleste

“Do Something Good” - that’s what Charlotte Deleste would say at the end of every broadcast at WISC-TV. She didn’t just say it, she lived it. Charlotte took her frustration and anger over what her son with special needs couldn’t get in terms of personal and respite care and created Gio’s Garden, a therapeutic respite center for children with special needs, not for her family, but for other families to get the care they need and deserve. Named after Gio, who inspires the non-profit, Gio’s Garden has helped nearly 800 families since 2012.

Katy Chryst Youngdahl

As the daughter of a Wisconsin Football Coach, Katy learned what it takes to become one of the greats and is on a mission to help women achieve the same. Football players are cool, but the real power players? Women who boldly claim I’m the one. I’m done playing small. I’m going all in.  Katy coaches on elite standards, personal power, confidence, and the unsexy work of facing fears head-on. “To witness everyday women breaking free from selfdoubt and external validation and unapologetically unleash the best versions of themselves– I love what I do.”

GLAMOUR with EASE

How often do you get to truly unwind while also enhancing your natural beauty? At Glimpse Lash Salon, owner and certified esthetician Karla Teos Rivera ensures clients enjoy both— relaxation and effortless, long-lasting glamour.

“When clients are in our chair, they’re not allowed to open their eyes until the end of the service, it is truly a moment of rest.”

Every service is designed for long-lasting beauty with minimal effort—because glamour should always be easy. Their expertly applied lash extensions range from natural Classic Sets to fuller Hybrid and Volume Sets, with regular fills and touch-ups for effortless maintenance. Lash lifts and tints provide a semi-permanent curl and deeper color.

Glimpse also specializes in brow services, including shaping, tinting, and lamination for fuller, more defined brows. For glowing skin, dermaplaning gently exfoliates, leaving the face smooth and radiant.

Inside Glimpse Lash Salon

It’s the details that matter and the Glimpse team diligently customizes services to help clients look and feel their best. Each service is carefully tailored to individual needs, ensuring the best possible results.

“I’m very particular, I’m very precise in what I do, and that’s what lashes are. You have to be very meticulous.”

At the heart of Glimpse’s services is this dedication to precision and a personal connection with clients.

“A lot of my clients have been with me from the start. And if they’re not physically my clients, they’re with my staff. You see their growth over the years, their special moments—weddings, life changes. Sometimes, I’m even the first person they tell when they’re pregnant. That trust means everything.”

Karla first started working at Glimpse while in beauty school. Years later she still loved the work, but she wanted more.

“I loved where I worked, the environment, and the owners. And I told them, ‘I would never want to leave, but I want more. Is there more growth within the company?’”

It turned out, the owners had been considering selling Glimpse and they offered it to Karla, who on top of being an almost business owner, was also an almost mom. Nerves aside, it was a “right place, right time” moment  and Karla went for it. Two and half years in, she and her husband have two kids, and she still loves lashes and the added responsibility of ownership.

“I love what I do and am able to do this and be a mom, which is important to me. I genuinely love to see my clients and talk to them, it’s my fun time.”

Women in Business

Four businesswomen weaving their expertise into the fabric of our community

From breaking barriers in the roofing industry to spearheading the photography of our very own magazine, these women are shining stars in our community. Through their dedication and determination, they’re illuminating paths for our younger generations. It takes steady effort and a strong mind to push an idea past fruition. These five are not just building businesses, they’re building groundwork for our community.

Industries overshadowed by men are particularly hard to break through. Melinda proves her resilience in trades by literally and figuratively climbing to new heights. She demonstrates that women can hit the nail on the head just as effectively as anyone. Sisters Ayangyangka and Maureen recognized the importance of early education and now bring joyful learning to Middleton. They promise a nurturing environment where children can experience the social and developmental skills that help shape those early learning stages in a playful and fun way. Anne, APNP, restores vitality and confidence through personalized wellness treatments. She understands how an individualistic approach to helping people look and feel their best can make the biggest impact. Ashley, demonstrating that we can be multi-faceted, found her creative outlet through photography, capturing the essence of businesses and connecting them deeply with audiences. These women are community pillars, showing us the power of ambition and the possibility of career transformation.

“...she leads with resilience, proving that women belong in trades. Once a single mother overcoming adversity, she now builds a legacy of empowerment, showing others—especially young girls— that with faith and determination, anything is possible.”

Ayangyangka Jumbam and Maureen Nkwenti

Ayang and Maureen are sisters who have grown individually in global careers in IT and Finance. Partnering now as Franchisees of The Learning Experience®, Middleton, their promise for our little learners, families, team, as well as our community is to make early education and preschool joyful, engaging and fun so children are happy to learn, play and grow!

thelearningexperience.com  888.290.6366

Melinda Angel is a faith-driven entrepreneur, wife, and mother of six boys, breaking barriers in the construction industry. As the president of Angel’s Exterior, she leads with resilience, proving that women belong in trades. Once a single mother overcoming adversity, she now builds a legacy of empowerment, showing others—especially young girls—that with faith and determination, anything is possible.

At Elite Hormones, Anne Ivaska, APNP, specializes in hormone replacement therapy for women and men with oral medications, topicals, injectables, and pellet therapy. They also offer medical weight loss, growth hormone optimization, and minor aesthetic treatments, including microneedling with PRP for anti-aging, hair loss, and chemical peels. Anne helps patients feel young again by restoring balance, confidence, and vitality throughout life.

Ashley is a brand photographer, mom, wife, and pharmacist who leaned into photography after her second child was born—a way to reclaim a piece of herself amidst motherhood. What started as a creative escape became a passion for helping others shine. Now, she empowers brands to tell their stories in a way that connects, leaving a lasting impact on their audience.

Honoring Women: Beauty, Wellness, and Balance

At WHOW Aesthetics, we believe beauty is more than skin deep—it’s about confidence, wellness, and balance. Women, especially mothers, give so much of themselves to others, often putting their own needs last. We honor and treasure them not just for their appearance but for their strength, resilience, & well-being.

Our treatments go beyond aesthetics; they support both physical and mental wellness. From BodyTite for body contouring, Morpheus8 RF micro needling for skin tightening, and PRF (Platelet-Rich-Fibron) therapy for natural rejuvenation, we offer services that enhance beauty while promoting self-care. For those seeking balance, our weight management programs, IV therapy, and wellness recommendations help women feel their best inside and out.

Confidence comes from prioritizing yourself. Investing in your well-being isn’t vanity—it’s self-care. At WHOW Aesthetics, we empower women to look and feel their best because true beauty radiates from within.

beauty from the inside out

Wellness and Aesthetic Treatments with WHOW Aesthetics

Growing up in Jamaica, Dr. Kevin Ferreira, MD has fond memories of his grandmother. She would visit and care for elderly neighbors, helping them with whatever they needed, even remembering their birthdays with a cake. Early in his life, he felt that a “light turns on when you know you’re doing something good,” which led him into “a life of caring.” Kevin, an Internal Medicine physician with almost 25 years of experience, feels this light often in his practice at WHOW Aesthetics in Middleton, and at their other locations throughout the state, including locations they reach with their mobile unit. The team at WHOW Aesthetics also includes Shannon Lindner, a Nurse Practitioner with 20 years of experience, Faith Overlee, a RN who is a critical part of the Middleton team, and Theona Williams-Ferreira, office manager, with expertise in media, marketing, and knowledge of the practice.

WHOW Aesthetics is a division of Wound Healing on Wheels, which has provided high-quality and state-of-the-art advanced wound care to patients in the central Wisconsin area for almost 10 years. Kevin realized that the rejuvenation techniques he had developed in wound care could also be useful in the field of aesthetics. This combination of health and beauty formed the foundation of WHOW Aesthetics. As Shannon explains, they believe beauty comes

“from the inside out…if people “feel better, [they] live longer and get more out of life.” WHOW offers a wide range of services that combine wellness with aesthetic treatments. Clients can choose services to enhance their natural beauty, support them in their weight-loss journey, detox their liver, or pamper themselves for an upcoming wedding. Their YouTube channel @WHOWAesthetics contains testimonials from several satisfied, enthusiastic clients. The WHOW team’s motto is, “We meet you where you are.” At an initial consultation, clients are provided with a full description of possible services, unless the client comes in with a specific issue to work on. If their issue is medical in nature, it might be covered by a Health Savings Account. Weight management and vitamins to support health may be covered, for example.

WHOW Aesthetics offers a wide range of services, often using PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) made from a client’s own blood to release

several biologically active proteins that can aid in the healing and rejuvenation of tissue. Clients can choose procedures that maintain youthful, healthy skin, relax wrinkles, prevent hair loss, re-contour areas on the face and body, promote weight management, and heal painful joints. The PRF process helps the body build collagen, which is a key ingredient in healthy aging. Kevin also offers BodyTite, which utilizes RFAL (Radio-Frequency Assisted Liposuction) for body contouring. With his medical background, Kevin

uses state-of-the art techniques in everything WHOW does. The WHOW team believes that maintenance is an important facet of all that they do. “Maintenance care makes it possible to live a long and low-maintenance life,” Shannon explains. WHOW offers something for everyone, including concierge services, Wedding-Prep packages and Lux Botox parties that are conducted in a client’s home or location of their choosing.

A few years ago, Kevin saw that Middleton was listed as one of the best places to live in the country. That began his interest in locating an office here, where he believed people would be interested in their services. They still work throughout the middle of the state and in their mobile unit, and their Middleton location on Elmwood Avenue is bright and welcoming. The team at WHOW firmly believes that it is “never, ever too late to make positive changes.”

DIY DAY

INSPIRATION FOR A MOTHER/ DAUGHTER DIY DAY

WITH MOM

An afternoon spent together is priceless with today’s busy schedules. Instead of going out, staying in can provide quaint, quiet one-on-one time for a mother and daughter (or multiple daughters). Finding time on calendars is the hard part, and filling that time is all fun from there. Here are a few favorite ideas for inspiration that may spark excitement for planning those special times together.

01 Charm Necklaces

Custom DIY charm necklaces and bracelets are trending. Gather a theme idea: birthstones, family initials, travels or even favorite hobbies, and procure charms from your local craft store or online shop. Selecting charms for each other also could be a fun way to bring delight to the crafting occasion. Necklaces and bracelets can be made for each other, or as future gifts for upcoming occasions such as a family wedding, a birthday milestone or an anniversary.

02 Interview Journaling

Storytelling makes for the best memories. Structure memory recall by filming or journaling interview-style question-and-answer sessions, cataloging information for future generations. Videos and notes with detailed family adventures are priceless, and we all always wish we had more of them.

03 Meal Prep

Text conversations around kitchen tips or ingredient procurement seem endless. Spend some time together in the kitchen preparing favorite family recipes, sharing Mom’s best tips and tricks. Choosing freezer-friendly meals is a great way to walk away with meals for upcoming busy days. There’s nothing like Mom’s recipes!
