After a wet and windy May, June has finally arrived in Hendersonville. With school out for the summer, it is finally time to slow down a bit and savor the warmer weather with family and friends.
Although the summer solstice doesn’t officially arrive until June 21st, your Hendersonville Lifestyle team is already in full vacation mode, and we are ready to help our readers celebrate the season.
June is also the month in which we celebrate Father’s Day, the day that we take the time to show our dads how much we love and appreciate them. In recognition of this special holiday, we dedicate the June issue of Hendersonville Lifestyle to honoring all the special men in our lives.
We begin this month’s journey by introducing you to three outstanding gentlemen who have gone above and beyond to make the City by the Lake such a great place to live.
Next, we visit with a local speaker and transformation coach who helps his clients achieve their goals through personal empowerment.
Continuing, we take you to the Hendersonville Utility District, which recently celebrated 75 years of providing pure, clean water for our community.
Moving on, we spice things up a bit by sitting down with a local actor who has helped to bring professional theater to the City by the Lake.
Finally, we take a look at recent Hendersonville Area Chamber of Commerce event that honored eight local men who have made their mark in our community.
Along the way, be sure to check out our City Scene and Business Monthly sections. They are chock full of the latest info on many of the great happenings taking place in our fair city.
Okay, Fellas… It’s your month. Thank you for all that you do for your families and for our community.

Local Transformation Coach Helps Empower Clients
ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY RICK MURRAY
Most of the time, it moves along at a certain pace that surrounds people with security. However, sometimes it can take an unexpected turn that that results in an entirely different trajectory.
Such is the case in the life of Dr. Justin Moseley.
A well-known local chiropractor, Justin and his wife Dr. Courtney Moseley founded Music City Health Center in Hendersonville in 2012. Their practice was dedicated to treating patients and helping them learn how to improve their physical health. As part of this effort, Justin spent considerable time speaking to groups about how to lead healthier lives.
Thanks to the Moseleys’ hard work and community outreach, their clinic thrived and became very successful. It seemed that everything was going their way – until 2018.
That year, Justin experienced a serious accident that resulted in a near-death experience which would profoundly change his life.
During his lengthy recuperative process, Justin had a lot of time to think. Despite the stress and pain of recovery, he realized that he was fortunate and that he had been given a second chance.
“Before the accident, my life revolved around our practice. I was content to just help local folks improve their health,” says Justin. “However, after my mishap, my focus shifted. I no longer wanted to just change local lives; I wanted to change lives around the world.”
Once he had recovered, Justin decided that he wanted to expand his public speaking prowess to address more than just physical health issues. He spent a great deal of time listening to and following influential
motivational speakers as a way to hone his own presentation techniques.
“I adapted techniques that I learned from some of the world’s most dynamic transformation coaches, including my personal favorite, Tony Robbins,” says Justin. “Eventually, my own unique style began to emerge, which I describe as inspiring and empowering.”
Since 2018, Justin has spoken at events all over the United States, as well as in several foreign countries. He recently became a TEDx presenter, which has significantly expanded his speaking opportunities at larger conferences.
“During my talks, I don’t speak to the audience. Instead, I speak for the audience,” says Justin. “Too many professional speakers make their talks more about themselves than the needs of the audience. I differentiate myself by focusing on delivering value to my audience. I speak to transform, not merely inform.”
Most of Justin’s clients know him as “The Mindset Doctor”, a name he acquired at a conference several years ago.
“Once, I was speaking at a Mastermind retreat when a man approached me during a break,” says Justin. “He said ‘I love what you do. You’re the Mindset Doctor.’ The name stuck, and I have been the Mindset Doctor ever since.”
Justin takes no ownership for the topics he chooses for his presentation. Instead, he is quick to give the credit to a higher power.
“I am a man of faith, and I believe that my messages are inspired by what God puts on my heart to share,” says Justin. “I feel that I am meant to speak on topics that will help people maximize their potential and become the best versions of themselves.”
“If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water.”
Loren EiseleyWater – the ultimate source of life.
From expansive seas and oceans to the tiniest streams, all water is precious, and it is vital for the survival of all living things.
Properly managed, water is the ultimate recyclable resource. The water that we use today has been used over and over again since the world was created.
However, many regions of the world do not enjoy access to safe and available fresh water supplies. Hardly a day goes by without major news organizations reporting the emergence of yet another water crisis somewhere.
Water shortages arise from many causes, including drought, overpopulation and changes in weather patterns. Parched equatorial regions in emerging countries are affected the most; however, the United States is also vulnerable to water crises, as is evident in the arid southwest.
Due to foresight and planning by the Hendersonville Utility District (HUD), local residents and businesses have been able to avoid these issues. The City by the Lake has been privileged to enjoy a safe and plentiful source of fresh water for 75 years.
“Water infrastructure provided through the district has been a catalyst for Hendersonville’s residential and business growth. The city’s abundant water resources have helped the city to become a premier residential location for many artists, entrepreneurs and business professionals,” says Brenda Payne, former executive director of the Hendersonville Area Chamber of Commerce and Volunteer State Community College Foundation. “Hendersonville Utility District has been
instrumental in helping our city to thrive. We should be forever grateful for the vision and support of the district.”
Brenda’s comments were echoed by former Sumner County Mayor Anthony Holt.
“When I was county mayor, I enjoyed working with the Hendersonville Utility District team, and I appreciate the vision that they have for our community,” says Holt. “Their commitment to providing dependable water and sewer services at great prices has helped the district to become one of the premier utility providers in the region.”
In recognition of the district’s 75th anniversary, HUD held a special celebration event at its main office on Apr. 14. Hundreds of people attended the event, which featured food trucks, giveaways, games and a special display of the district’s history, as told through photographs and publications. The highlight of the day was a commemorative ribbon cutting hosted by the Hendersonville Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Without wonder and insight, acting is just a business. With it, it becomes creation.”
Bette DavisActing is one of the oldest and most challenging of the creative arts. From school performances to community theater to blockbuster motion pictures, gifted actors are able to both entertain and inspire their audiences.
Dramas, comedies, musicals – they touch our souls in ways that few other art forms can achieve. Skillfully scored, scripted and delivered, performance pieces can challenge our
convictions and teach us new insights into our world.
One of the hallmarks of great communities is the presence of a thriving arts scene. From portrait galleries to concert venues, performing arts enhance livability by expanding local culture.
Fortunately, Hendersonville is blessed with multiple arts outlets, including its own professional theater troupe – Actors Point Theater Company. 40-year veteran actor, director and coach Greg Wilson founded Actors Point in 2008 in recognition of his
desire to bring top quality professional productions to the City by the Lake.
“In 2008, when the economy got tough, I started investigating the top cities across America that did not experience major downturns,” says Greg. “To my surprise, I noticed that the top 25 cities that still had growth during the recession had one thing in common – they all had professional theater companies. As a result of this discovery, I resolved to start Actors Point so that Hendersonville and Sumner County residents could enjoy live productions without having the inconvenience and expense of having to drive to Nashville.”
Greg began acting in high school when a friend talked him into playing an extra in a performance of “Flash Gordon.” As soon as the production ended, he realized that he was hooked, and that he had contracted an incurable strain of the acting bug.
“Prior to my first play, I was having a lot of success as an athlete, particularly in baseball, football and wrestling,” says Greg. “However, after that play, I gave up all of the sports to concentrate on the theatrical arts. From that point on, I decided that theater, both on and off stage, was going to be my life.”
After high school, Greg attended the Professional Theater Training Program at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. The program incorporated top tier acting coaches and teachers from influential conservatory programs such as Julliard, NYU and Carnegie Mellon.
“At the university, our teachers had us explore such famous acting legends as Stanislavsky, Adler, Meisner, Spolin and Grotowski,” says Greg. “I ended up patterning my own style by adopting techniques from each of them. That training has helped me greatly in my roles as an actor, coach and director.”
Greg has also been influenced by his older brother, who is a well-respected drummer in the
world of jazz and blues. His dedication to his music and his work ethic have inspired Greg to constantly work at his craft.
“My brother has played with a lot of famous musicians, including Stevie Ray Vaughn and B.B. King,” says Greg. “He got to this level by practicing his drumming for hours every day, starting when he was eight-years-old. Today, he is 70, and he still practices for two to three hours each day. If you are going to be a professional and a master of your craft, that’s what it takes.”
Over his multi-decade career, Greg has directed and acted in many different types of productions, and he has enjoyed working with all of them. However, he has a particular love for the classics, such as “My Fair Lady”, “Steel Magnolias” and the works of William Shakespeare.
“Classical works inspire me, and they continue to influence modern stage productions to this day,” says Greg. “We wouldn’t have such masterpieces as ‘Hamilton’ without the foundations built by the likes of Shakespeare and Rogers and Hammerstein.”
Since its inception, Actors Point has made a significant impact upon the Hendersonville arts scene. Along with staging multiple productions each year, the company has also offered annual summer theater camps which have been attended by hundreds of young people, ranging from kindergarten to college age.
“Our camps are designed to be fun-filled experiences for students where they learn far more than just basic theater concepts,” says Greg. “We teach them lifelong skills in areas such as oral communication, creative problem solving, motivation, commitment, self-confidence, adaptability, flexibility and the ability to work under pressure.”
Actor, director, teacher and coach – Greg Wilson is a renaissance man and a Hendersonville treasure.
"Never stop training. Never stop building your craft. There is a price to pay but it's worth it."
