May Women’s Issue
This month, we celebrate the women of fashion that anchor Kercheval Avenue on The Hill and in The Village. I also want to encourage you to support local businesses owned by women in our community.

One of my favorite parts of this job is connecting with and championing the incredible women here in Grosse Pointe. From movers and shakers to makers and builders, these women bring so much to the table, both seen and unseen. Their contributions, often behind the scenes, create beauty and impact that cannot be replicated by technology and online competition which grind away the local commerce and families in our community. Supporting our local businesses is vital to the character, longevity, and ultimately success of one of the most unique towns in the world.
We dedicated this issue to the Spring and Summer Styles that make women feel confident, comfortable, and on trend.
We visit with Pearl store manager, Gigi Badalamenti, and buyer Erica Panagopoulos to get the story on high end brands that will grace the streets this season. From styles, colors, materials, and accessories, they give us a great sense of the upcoming styles.
Lanna Young, owner of Savvy Chic, has been on point for trendy styles bringing the looks every season. Also, Lanna celebrated 10 years this April in Grosse Pointe! In addition to the trends and fashions showcased by Savvy Chic in this issue, I want to congratulate Lanna and her team on their anniversary and for many more years to come!
Finally, check out the City Scene section which highlights a recent event at The Helm where artists William Schippert and Angelo Sherman showcased their art while attendees also enjoyed jazz music performed by the Gwen & Charles Scales Trio. Thank you to The Helm Executive Director, Krista Siddall, for letting me cover the event.
Happy Mother's Day!

Spring/ Summer WOMEN'S FASHION

Featuring styles by Pearl
ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI
PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY PEARL
The fun thing about fashion is that it's always changing. Some seasons, completely new styles appear, while others have us reliving looks from the past. Here, we find out what's in style this spring and summer.
"We're seeing a lot of pastel colors, so those pinks, pistachios and greens from designers like Max Mara," says Erica Panagopoulos, the buyer for Pearl in Grosse Pointe Farms.

"A cool coastal look is also big this spring and summer, along with elevated athleisure wear."
According to store manager, Gigi Badalamenti, linens are also hot. "We have a high-end brand of linen from Venezuela called Fabiana Pigna that people love," she says.
Pearl has a whole new line of accessories made of raffia too. "We have totes with different compartments including slats in the front to hold your beach hat," says Gigi.
Adds Erica, "Raffia is going across the board to include shoes as well - everything from a platform to a flat. Raffia is definitely on trend for a great summer look."
The boutique also started carrying Loeffler Randall. "This brand is very wellknown, and the line includes shoes in natural tones with bows and pleats," says Gigi.
Along with dressier shoes, customers will also be clamoring for more comfortable, everyday footwear such as the still popular tennis shoe, but boat shoes are also back in a big way.
"For these, we just started carrying another new line called Vince®, because if you want to be on trend, you need a boat shoe," says Gigi.
Another must-have item this season is anything made from featherweight cashmere. These include sweater, shirts and lovely shawls. "We have these really luxurious travel wraps by White + Warren," says Erica. "They go over anything, so if you're heading out it's something that you can just wrap around yourself. It's very breathable, but still keeps you warm."
"There are so many beautiful materials that have this sheared look to them, and it will even be translated into fall, as you can see on the runway shows, such as Chanel," she says.

Of course, to complement these items, the right accessories are also important to pull the whole look together. "Everything will be accentuated with statement necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, and these will be bolder than they have been in the past for that extra dazzle," says Erica. Even brooches are coming back in style.
Although there are many new and exciting styles this season, people don't have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. Instead, they can just incorporate some new items. "Doing this can refresh your wardrobe and make you look and feel like you have some brand new ensembles," she says.
Adds Gigi, "You can just get a new piece or two, like a raffia shoe or a featherweight wrap to update your whole look."
Pearl is proud to offer many new brands this season, as well as the beloved brands they have offered over
the years. "Our customer is definitely someone that wants to be current, but she also wants to keep that classic look," says Erica. "So, we're adapting and bringing in a few on trend lines and pieces."
This elevated step up is the vision of Molly Valade, who revitalized the boutique. "Molly wanted a space that was comfortable for people, yet offered something different than what they could get elsewhere, which is a curated selection of stylish pieces," says Gigi.
With its amazing and knowledgeable staff, many of whom have been with the boutique for years, it will be easy to find the perfect clothes and accessories for every season.
"As always, we're going to offer a personalized shopping experience," says Gigi.

BY SAVVY CHIC

Whether you are shopping for a whole new look this season, or some accent pieces to help you spring into summer, Lanna Young and her staff at Savvy Chic Boutique have got you covered. Spring and summer 2025 bring a range of styles. Every photo tells the story of what’s trending. Whether your vibe is Boho Chic, Ladylike Luxury (think Jackie O.), Nautical Prep or Athleisure, Savvy Chic can help you own the look. The emphasis is on comfort and wearability, with a maximum price point of $150 -which is always in style!

“We’re highlighting big, bold jewelry with layers for a bold, fresh look this season,” says Lanna. Silver is making a comeback, whether it’s an accent piece of jewelry, or grommets to add zip to a summer handbag, Lanna and her staff will have you looking easy breezy in time for sunny days ahead!
The trend this spring and summer is very free-spirited, according to Lanna Young, owner of Savvy Chic Boutique. “Fashion is really about having fun, and choosing what’s best for you. My goal has always been about bringing current trends to Grosse Pointe,” she says. Savvy Chic is celebrating 10 years in the community, thanks to her longtime staff of six who are “fabulous at outfitting people.” Lanna and her husband live in Grosse Pointe with their two children.
The Boho Look is back! The free-spirited look is having a revival, with belted dresses in playful patterns, topped with hats and layered jewelry.
The trend for spring is called Ladylike. Think Jackie O! It’s a very feminine with voluminous skirts for a look that is “Ladylike Luxury.”
Petal Pink and Pistachio top the list of popular pastels, which always trend in spring. “This year is a softer color palette,” Lanna says. “The look is very fresh and very fun.”

Athleisure, elevated! Sporty chic and very spring-driven. “These pieces can be worn day to day, some are office appropriate for casual Friday, featuring a collared Polo shirt for a crisp look,” Lanna says. Nautical Preppy and Coastal Cool! Savvy Chic is offering pieces with a very crisp, sailor aesthetic that is always in style for Grosse Pointe, according to Lanna. “It’s classic preppy, modern and elegant, embracing that nautical look,” she points out. “We have pieces that add a luxury element to something preppy, perhaps with some extra touches to make it a bit edgy and fresh.”

Animal print is having a moment (did it ever really go away?). “The 2025 revival is about really embracing the small print, which makes it a little more luxurious,” Lanna says. “In 2025, you can go all out and wear it head-to-toe.”

DIY DAY
INSPIRATION FOR A MOTHER/ DAUGHTER DIY DAY
ARTICLE BY MEL BOBAN
WITH MOM
An afternoon spent together is priceless with today’s busy schedules. Instead of going out, staying in can provide quaint, quiet one-on-one time for a mother and daughter (or multiple daughters). Finding time on calendars is the hard part, and filling that time is all fun from there. Here are a few favorite ideas for inspiration that may spark excitement for planning those special times together.

01 Charm Necklaces
Custom DIY charm necklaces and bracelets are trending. Gather a theme idea: birthstones, family initials, travels or even favorite hobbies, and procure charms from your local craft store or online shop. Selecting charms for each other also could be a fun way to bring delight to the crafting occasion. Necklaces and bracelets can be made for each other, or as future gifts for upcoming occasions such as a family wedding, a birthday milestone or an anniversary.
02 Interview Journaling
Storytelling makes for the best memories. Structure memory recall by filming or journaling interview-style question-and-answer sessions, cataloging information for future generations. Videos and notes with detailed family adventures are priceless, and we all always wish we had more of them.
03 Meal Prep
Text conversations around kitchen tips or ingredient procurement seem endless. Spend some time together in the kitchen preparing favorite family recipes, sharing Mom’s best tips and tricks. Choosing freezer-friendly meals is a great way to walk away with meals for upcoming busy days. There’s nothing like Mom’s recipes!
